@crazytimes20 I think I’m still in shock. I had given up for today but yes it feels like such a weight off! I am so happy for my boy 👦
@Mumma3girls I know I do too. It’s so unfair.

@RainbowZebraWarrior

i was just really explicit on the form as to how the condition affects his life day to day by describing the symptoms and how i have to support him every day to manage them.

what does an MR mean?

the letter says to ring or write. can i just type a letter of appeal? i don't want to do anything over the phone as i don't trust how it will be documented

That's awful and so unfair. MR is Mandatory Reconsideration. You have to contest each point that they have said your child doesn't qualify on. So use any evidence you have to make them reconsider (it goes to a different decision maker) Yes, I think you can do it by letter and set out all the reasons why you disagree.

DLAdespair · 17/11/2023 14:41

@RainbowZebraWarrior

thanks that's really helpful. i will list each point and challenge it.

i think they just don't know what his condition is (he's very young to have it as normally diagnosed in teenagers/adults after years of misery with symptoms).

Dizzymom · 17/11/2023 14:51

Hi all
Congratulations to all who have been awarded, and so sorry to all who've been declined.

My scan date was 22/8 so still a long wait.
I think the longer it goes on, the less I think I'll get it.

Sent lots of evidence from professionals, even saying the extra care he has through night and about a rare genetic condition that he has. I filled form in and wrote 5 extra pages of 24 hours in our sone life. They'll just see an 11 year old, where we live with an 11 year old who needs extra support, has meltdowns, learning delay,l dyspraxia and a brain that doesn't send signals when he needs a poo....so much mess to clean up, washing snd showering in night and so much upset.

Mumzieof1 · 17/11/2023 14:51

Scan date 14/7

I rang before an the lady said it's been with DM since Wednesday and they usually take about a week to decide so she'll put a note on system to her for me to receive a text when she does decide.

Good luck everyone!

Clairexdx · 17/11/2023 14:53

@Mumzieof1 hey you have the same scan date as me and same day that went with a dm! I was told to day up to 10 days for them to make a decision. Good luck. Il keep checking here to see if you receive a text lol x

Mumofepilepsy · 17/11/2023 14:58

Mrsstephens04 · 17/11/2023 15:00

@crazytimes20 I know our house buybwas also completed in 13 weeks and we had loads of issues holding us back on that bug it still didn't seem this long this wait is just ridiculous it honestly feels like the end of a pregnancy like the last few weeks where you no you COULD go into labour any time but you just don't know when 🤣 I've never been a very patient person when it comes to waiting! 🙈

Best of luck. I have everything crossed for you. I always remember "explain it like they've never heard of it before" being drummed into me by a disability expert. I have the same issue with lack of understanding / awareness and late diagnosis after years of suffering and not being believed. I was diagnosed at 49 with my condition - EDS - whereas my daughter was diagnosed aged 10.

crazytimes20 · 17/11/2023 15:07

@Mrsstephens04 I agree! These last few weeks have been awful. I'd expect to wait a fair few weeks but 17/18 wks wait is shocking. And the fact all this waiting could end in a decline.
I don't expect to hear out till the last week or November to be honest.

Hi, I’ve never posted before but wondered if anyone else has applied for a teenager with ASD in mainstream school? My scan date is 12/10 so a long way to go, but keep thinking it’ll be declined. Always seems to be that everything is such a fight for help!

Yes. When in school with no EHCP he was awarded middle rate no mobility. Then when we re applied he was in college and couldn’t complete a journey alone, so he got mobility as well. I was gobsmacked. I don’t expect he will get that next time as it’s a lottery who you get to assess the case but it was welcome for now.

Pumpkins3 · 17/11/2023 15:24

Just on hold to try and get an update before the weekend. Been on hold for 37 minutes so far. Wonder if I’ll get through before they close 😬

Scan date 12/7 and been with DM since Monday x

Keddie · 17/11/2023 15:26

@Billie1993 @Rebeccanew @Pumpkins3 I have not heard anything at all, just got back from a family funeral on hold now will update you all xxx

@Billie1993 @Rebeccanew @Pumpkins3 I have not heard anything at all, just got back from a family funeral on hold now will update you all xxx

Thank you @Keddie So sorry to hear that you’ve been at a funeral today xx

Really hope we get through before they go home x

WhereDidTheTimeGo888 · 17/11/2023 15:40

@hearttied my son doesn’t have an EHCP either. I just keep getting fobbed off by the school. He’s in the last year and is so overwhelmed with every bit of school, he just can’t cope. He won’t go anywhere with anyone but myself and a few family members (apart from school but I take him and pick him up) and even I struggle to get him to leave the house. It’s his safe place.

I think you’re right, it really is luck if you get someone who understands. Good luck next time you apply.

Krys83 · 17/11/2023 16:02

I finally got through after 1 hour and 42 minutes later, lady didn't seem very friendly at all. But she said claims are taking 18 and a half weeks and I'm probably looking at another 3 weeks before they would even look at it.

Keddie · 17/11/2023 16:07

@Billie1993 @Rebeccanew @Pumpkins3 2nd attempt on hold, 30 mins in. First time they answered they hung up grrr I am not giving up today xx

Watso2408 · 17/11/2023 16:17

@Mrsstephens04 im on pins with all these awards near our dates! Fingers crossed we have positive news soon x

Jude82 · 17/11/2023 16:18

So I gave in and called for rates. Didn’t want to wait all weekend without updating UC and not knowing. 1 hour 48 mins on hold and I got through. He’s been awarded MRC and LRM until Sept 2026. I am shaking. I am so happy. I cannot believe that the best outcome I hoped for has eventually happened!! Backdated pay was processed today and he said I should have £2100 ( including Xmas bonus) in the bank on Wednesday 😊 Then next pay date 19/12 £380 going forward. I am over the moon! Hoping UC backdate carers element and disability element too. This will make such a difference for my boy ❤️

Mumofepilepsy · 17/11/2023 16:21
