Good morning, this is my first time posting however I have been following the post for quite some time I’m currently on week 19 since scan 2 weeks I had a call from DM however I did call the week before to say that I had some more evidence to send in which I did. I had a little chat with the DM he was really nice and listened to everything I had to say, he said that he was going to wait for the further evidence to come in it will either be passed onto there medical team and then a desision will be made, I had originally sent pages and pages a little overkill I think 🤔 but since our conversation I called again last week as my LO has just received another diagnosis I have just received another letter from consultant obviously I will get this over to them but feel it’s just delaying everything even more 🤦🏼‍♀️ and I don’t know what to do I wish they would except email it would be so much easier rather then it having to go through the post and the delays in processing the information I’m hoping I hear something this week it’s such a long process especially sending in extra evidence to back claim my stomach is in knots

Clazamumof2girls · 30/09/2023 11:16

Hi everyone first time posting scan date 29/6 so a long way to go yet! I’ve been reading these threads for a while but doubting my application now, not sure I’ve put down correct timings regarding how long to get into bed extra and dressed etc…not took into account prep and how long that takes. I have submitted evidence from school, paediatrician, CDC worker etc but do you think it’s too late (I’m on 13wks) to submit more evidence. Reading all your comments I’m wondering whether I need to also submit a couple of example days in detail, which I currently haven’t. Maybe an average day and then a bad day. When you submit more do they let you know they’ve received it etc? A little worried it’ll be too late now. Hope we all get what our children deserve xxx

Clazamumof2girls · 30/09/2023 11:35

The claim I’ve put in is for my eldest daughter was is Autistic, she is 13 and only got her formal diagnosis last year which took from her being 5 to get a diagnosis due to us living in the Channel Islands. They have a different referral system there and support is given in education without a formal diagnosis so we didn’t need that until we moved back to the UK in 2020… which was then a nightmare to get anyone to listen to us as she masked and mirrored quite a lot in school. It was and is mainly at home she has meltdowns from the build up of keeping together all day etc. I also have a 4 year old who is presenting some similar traits but has conflicting sensory needs to her older sister which is very challenging at home. We are under Early help as I’m on my own with them both and not around family for support. I am currently at the start of the process with my youngest and don’t have much evidence in the form of developmental evidence but has been recognised she’s on the pathway. The other challenge we have is she has quiet bad breathing difficulties which the Drs are treating as Asthma but can’t formally diagnose yet as too young. Coming into the winter months it’s a nightmare with sleep as she is a nightmare at settling back down when she wakes, which with coughing constantly she is up quite alot through the night. Last year I had to have that much time off work it majorly impacted us financially and I’m worried it’s going to be the same this year. I’m debating on whether to put a claim in for her, as anyone here been through similar and been awarded? I just don’t know if it’s worth all the extra stress of completing the form and waiting if there’s no point due to little evidence. So sorry for the long post!! Xx

Mummytodo · 30/09/2023 12:08

@No1angel4u I would wait for decision and if it's negative you have further evidence for MR

Did they contact the school to confirm? Or literally just went off what you said? I’m worried I’ve not sent enough evidence so this is reassuring to read xx

Thenoseymother · 30/09/2023 13:32

Also, how long does it usually take to receive that first letter stating they’ve received your application with the scan date?

Chels2020 · 30/09/2023 13:43

The coc claim from 24/03 they rang my sons nursery he has a idlp with them and they confirmed he needs a constant one to one and can’t walk but other than nursery details I didn’t send anything he got awarded hrc/hrm

I rang for my sons forms who got awarded on Thursday new claim on the 17/05 I got the forms sent off the same day again with no evidence he was just awaiting accepting for screening for asd and they wrote to me a few weeks later stating scan date 31/05 but when I spoke to the handler yesterday he said it had been awarded from when I rang

stay positive I literally just explained on both my boys forms how they are at home and went into detail but I didn’t include anything extra other than a list of which professionals they have involved x

Clazamumof2girls · 30/09/2023 15:03

They received mine on the 29/6 and then sent me a letter stating they’d received it on the 12/7 so a couple of weeks after. I’ve since had another letter and two texts saying they’re still looking into the claim

AllGoodThingsWillCome · 30/09/2023 17:10

Hi everyone, my DD was declined after a new claim and MR 🙄. I put in for her appeal yesterday and I am planning on sending in her whole medical records as the issues actually started whilst I was about 16 weeks pregnant with her. Does anyone know how long dla appeals are taking at the moment.

I had a pip appeal earlier this year after waiting just under a year 🤬

Thank you

Muva306 · 30/09/2023 17:37

oh no @AllGoodThingsWillCome what reasons have the declined the MR? How long was it before you heard back about the i put my MR in the week before last.

I have absolutely no idea about the appeals process, is it similar to PIP?

AllGoodThingsWillCome · 30/09/2023 17:59

@Muva306 they said although she has medical issues she does not need anymore care then a normal 4 year old. Diagnosed chronic constipation with a descended colon of 4cm, chronic lung disease since birth, iron deficiency, poor eater and drinker and terrible eczema that only seems to affect her legs.

My MR took a week and a half very quick but I had no idea until I randomly called up two weeks ago to find out what was going on. The decision letter was only dated the 28th so I have no clue how they actually do things.

Tbh, I don’t think dla takes as long as pip, I am hoping so anyway.

Sskanf · 30/09/2023 19:36

Same scan date here
When did u receive the second txt. I've only had 1, I did read previously most people had 2 letters and 2 texts before it went to a DM so hopefully not too long for u

Sskanf · 30/09/2023 19:42

Thays ridiculous just based on her medical needs she'd need a lot more care than a 4 year old whoever the DM was of your case clearly made a very unfair decision

AllGoodThingsWillCome · 30/09/2023 22:47

@Sskanf I agree, the only thing I can think of is that she hasn’t had much medical input. recently. The colon issue was investigated a month before covid pandemic and she was meant to be referred to a gastro clinic and dietitian. I have not heard from either since the pandemic due to the backlog. I am now going private and got a appointment with a gastro dr at GOSH in 3 days-

she is scared to pass stools, holds her urine and scared to pass wind. Fully potty trained but refuses to wear underwear only the day she passes her stools. The change in personality is heartbreaking- literally stays in bed all day rocking and sweating and crying and refuses to do anything. Once she has passed her stools she loves dancing and singing and being a all round entertainer. Only eats carbs and a bad drinker mix this with the chronic constipation it’s a hard time. Currently even with meds passing stools every 2-3 weeks. I could go on and on…

Muva306 · 01/10/2023 00:32

@AllGoodThingsWillCome it definitely sounds like you have a good case for a tribunal ( I think that’s what it’s called once they reject your MR) oh a week and 1/2 is really quick for the MR.

Sskanf · 01/10/2023 00:40

Aaaww bless it must be really difficult seeing her go.through this. Of course you could just go on as a parent only you know the difficulties your child gods through as you live it with them. Your a brilliant Mom trying to do what's best by your child to help her get what's rightfully owed to her and you shouod definitely appeal. The DM's honestly don't realise how hard and long it is filling out these forms and then the long wait in between. It's horrible we only go through that effort because we rightfully feel our children are entitled.
My son has a lot of learning delays unable to talk at 4 and has severe SPD, from loving water he will not get in the bath will take me an hour sometimes to get him in and he will attempt to hurt himself headbutting me or anything in his way will scratch himself won't allow his hair to be washed. Won't allow his teeth to be brushed, his nails to be cut, hair to be cut. He has 15 meltdowns a day over certain noises, or change in routine. As he's unable to talk its difficult to understand him. He screams all day out of frustration n will throw objects and toys in the air out of excitement/fear. He has no sense of danger. I tried my best to word all this in his form just hope they understand the difficulties faced daily. His under SEN abd SALT they have been brilliant. He's a lovely little boy aside his SPD the DLA will help towards play therapy and speech therapy

Sskanf · 01/10/2023 00:48

In all the 4 years of his life I've managed him alone without any support from family as they will refuse to watch him saying their unsure of how to manage him, he's finally getting the right support from school tho. I've looked after my little boy best I can and just want to continue helping him best I can. Hope to hear a positive response from DLA soon

Jneill2021 · 01/10/2023 09:16

Just wondering has anyone been successful with hrm due to a child's autism involving refusal to walk extreme meltdowns which can cause harm to self and others, I've applied for my son who turned 5 in April. He is already getting hrc but getting him out and about is such hard work and really distressing for him. X

HRM is extremely hard to get. Have you looked at the SMI chart? You’ll only get awarded if your child ticks every single box in the chart. If not then HRM won’t be awarded. Sounds like he’d get LRM at the very least though
