@Wintersmummy96 hi, I’ve just recently applied for mobility scans date September 16th. My son is 5 in jan, when you apply for mobility you also have the care bit in the book as well and if they still need the same amount of care they’ll keep it the same if not it’ll go to higher or lower rate all depends on what they decide. My son get MRC but tells you on booklet anyway. Give yourself plenty of time there’s a 21 weeks wait I won’t find out until feb, it might not be so long then but gives it a bit extra time and to hopefully find out before you’re child is 5

mammaov3 · 24/12/2022 09:35

@Kaylisa Thank you for putting all the uc up because i thought i did it all yesterday but looks like i have missed a couple of things so your post has helped x

For people asking about UC.

you have to do change of circumstances, then children and other people who live with you. Click on the child’s name. Fill in the details. Put the date that the dla was awarded/backdated to, not the date you found out.
then do change of circumstances and go to caring for someone. Only do this one if your child is awarded middle or high rate care. Again, put the date that your child was awarded/backdated to, not the date you found out.
then go to your journal and under payments, put that you have done a change of circumstances as your child has been awarded dla. Say the amount. Say that you’ve also done change of circumstances for caring (if middle or high rate care) and that you would like it to go to the decision maker for back payment. State the reason you reported late is due to the length of time it takes from applying for dla to being awarded, and you have only just been informed and therefore could not report change before now.
if your child gets middle or high rate care you can get carers element on UC. You do not need to be claiming carers allowance for this.

carers allowance is deducted from UC at a monthly rate of something like £302 per assessment period. This is more than the 4 weekly amount as it is worked out to a monthly rate.

UC should then get in contact to say that they accept the reason for late reporting. They then back pay the disability element to the date your child was awarded.

I have recently done this.
so far they have back payed carers element but not the disability. It seems it is looked at separately. But there should be no issue.

carers element is added on at something like £168 a month.
Child disability element I can’t remember the amounts but for low or middle rate care it’s something like £132 a month. £414 for hrc.

you might want to go on your previous statements and screen shot them as they will change them to show the new amounts when they backdate. So if you want to check they have done the correct amount, it’s good to know what you received before.

I reported the changes on the 13th dec. took about a week for the backdated carers element.
still not heard about the backdated disability.

if your child has middle or high rate care and you can claim the carers element, it puts you into the no work group. That means no work coach once this is done. So don’t put any messages under ‘message for work coach’ as they don’t get alerted.

Thankyou so much

Shellbel10 · 28/12/2022 13:19

i Would ring them up and tell them and see if they want it sent in

Melissajade123 · 28/12/2022 13:55

Hi, hope everyone is well, I’m so nervous for a decision, it’s sending my anxiety through the roof, my scan date was the 7th October, I rang a few weeks ago and they said I will get a decision by the 30/12 then I rang last week (because I’m too impatient) and they told me it will go to a DM on the 30th of this month and it will be around 2 weeks after that for a decision, has anyone else had a decision yet around this scan date??

JubileeTrifle · 28/12/2022 14:28

quick Help please!

doing my carers application online (DD got middle rate and lower mobility)

do I need to add any additional information or is the DLA enough???

looklook · 28/12/2022 14:34

Just a bit of hope for people.
I sent my form very very late and it was received on the 21st December. My daughter was previously on middle rate care and low mobility. I sent EHCP (she attends mainstream school and is 11) and a letter from CAMHS. I had previously had a lot more evidence.

Decision was made the very next day and they have awarded her high rate care and high rate mobility- she is autistic (although I know it goes on care needs and not diagnosis). Award runs out when she is 17.

I am still in shock and did not stop crying the day I found out. She did meet the criteria for high rate but I really did not expect it and did not write the forms with that in mind, but was just honest about day to day life.

Gemz8 · 28/12/2022 15:11

@JubileeTrifle I didn’t put any additional information on. I’ve only done mine today too x

Losttheplot1 · 28/12/2022 15:51

@Gemz8 and @JubileeTrifle what is the carers application for? I really haven't a clue what I'm doing now?

Wintersmummy96 · 28/12/2022 15:56

scan date 26th September, awarded 22nd December receiving payment on Friday x

JubileeTrifle · 28/12/2022 16:02

@Losttheplot1 if you are caring for your child 35 hours or more (eg not working) you can also apply for carers allowance which is another £69 a week.
I’ve actually done it all online and it was super easy in fact. I think I was overthinking the extra info bit.

Another wait though, it said 6 weeks but don’t know how true that is?

Gemz8 · 28/12/2022 16:11

@Losttheplot1 or if you are working and your earnings are £132 or less a week. I’m working but had to reduce my hours due to my son being on reduced time table. I think if you get UC it’s reduced from there anyway. Carers allowance counts towards national insurance record though. I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing either. I’m just winging it and hoping for the best 😂x

Cody3 · 28/12/2022 16:16

@Losttheplot1 i applied for carers in July this year and took 15 weeks I had to ring them up if I hadn’t heard anything by a certain date so the could tell them it had been over the wait time, you can work up to 12 hours a week on minimum wage when you claim carers I do 1 shift a week at work. It helps me just for that break but I do have another 2 kids who don’t have disabilities
