Does anyone know why they initially award it for 2 years (we have it until 2024). This whole process is overwhelming. We got MRC & LRM awarded on the 15th. (Scan date 21st sep). Son is on the SCAMP pathway for ASD and just waiting on the date for his final stage of testing (can’t remember the name) but do you think that’s why it’s such a short award period ? Because we are still awaiting the diagnosis?

Purplerachel123 · 23/12/2022 11:54

I applied in February and got rejected I completed a MR and got rejected my sendco at school said my daughter who is 12 and is under camsh for adhd should get awarded submitted new claim in September , received 30th September im so anxious as we have been rejected before hope to get an answer soon

mammaov3 · 23/12/2022 12:23

My scan date is the 26th September.

I've just rang and it's with a dm. She said to ring back if I haven't heard anything in the new year, otherwise they'll write to me.

But they are closed over the bank holidays, if they want to speak to the school they are closed and theres no post. I asked about a text but apparently they aren't doing them anymore.

Losttheplot1 · 23/12/2022 12:44

@kimlo I find it awful with all the different information we get given. I was told last week they would text me the decision as soon as one was made. I was Probably told that to stop me from ringing again.🤣

kimlo · 23/12/2022 12:47

@Losttheplot1 people would ring less if they didn't say 8 weeks, or if they employed more people so it could actually be done in 8 weeks. They obviously need them for it to be taking this long.

mammaov3 · 23/12/2022 14:08

Do you have to claim carers allowance to get carers element?

OP posts:
Ollie20 · 23/12/2022 16:06

Rang today regarding my sons claim was told by the man on the phone it can be any day now as it's with the decision maker... He could not tell me anything else.

Anotherfedupmum · 23/12/2022 16:08

Does anyone know how to answer the question of when did you start caring for your child on uc change of circumstances?(caring for someone) Im confused

mammaov3 · 23/12/2022 16:13

@Anotherfedupmum i just had trouble with same thing i asked my work coach she seid to put the date your child got awarded the dla

OP posts:
Gemz8 · 23/12/2022 16:14

@Anotherfedupmum I put the date my son was awarded. They’ve asked for me to confirm the reason I’m reporting it late so it can go to decision makers to look at backdating it for me? Seems like done with one thing then straight onto the next xx

Oh no! I forgot to ask the date it was awarded on the phone. Just when the award would be until and what rates etc.. sounds like a job for after Xmas now 😞 guessing I'm going to be asked the same thing as I don't have that info as of yet. What was your reason for reporting late if you dont mind me asking?

Gemz8 · 23/12/2022 16:28

@Anotherfedupmum its all so confusing isn’t it. I just said because DLA were snowed under and because of postal strikes I had to wait a long time for the confirmation letter xx

I will have to wait until I have the info as I forgot to ask on the phone. They didn't seem very willing to help advice what I'm entitled to now either. They just asked if I was already claiming anything else in regards to my child which I wasn't as a lot of the 'extras' you have to be in receipt of Dla to claim in the first place 😫. Its so confusing

Another hurdle! Thanks for that, please update with any updates if you dont mind when you have any. Best of luck xx

Gemz8 · 23/12/2022 16:31

@Anotherfedupmum I know. Don’t know why they have to make things so difficult. I will do, have a lovely Christmas xx

Karolinaa · 23/12/2022 16:51

Are they going to be closed from tomorrow?

Losttheplot1 · 23/12/2022 17:16

I've just had a call. We've been awarded HRC until 2025 but told to reapply for mobility when he turns 5. Payment backdated to Aug.

mammaov3 · 23/12/2022 17:53

does anyone no iff you get child disability element and carers element (not carers allowance) or can you only get one or the other on uc im so confused 😒🤔

MygirlGrace · 23/12/2022 18:08

Congratulations to everyone who received positive news today. I’m assuming the office will be closed now until Wednesday (Mon & Tues are bank holiday) in between Xmas and New Year I think it’s ‘skeleton staff’ so prob not many decisions will be made. Will wait till Jan now then will chase. Have a wonderful Christmas everyone (those who are still waiting to hear try not to worry over the holiday which is easier said than done I know. I’m the Queen of worrying 🙈) xx

DLA waiting times part 7
Kaylisa · 24/12/2022 05:43

For people asking about UC.

you have to do change of circumstances, then children and other people who live with you. Click on the child’s name. Fill in the details. Put the date that the dla was awarded/backdated to, not the date you found out.
then do change of circumstances and go to caring for someone. Only do this one if your child is awarded middle or high rate care. Again, put the date that your child was awarded/backdated to, not the date you found out.
then go to your journal and under payments, put that you have done a change of circumstances as your child has been awarded dla. Say the amount. Say that you’ve also done change of circumstances for caring (if middle or high rate care) and that you would like it to go to the decision maker for back payment. State the reason you reported late is due to the length of time it takes from applying for dla to being awarded, and you have only just been informed and therefore could not report change before now.
if your child gets middle or high rate care you can get carers element on UC. You do not need to be claiming carers allowance for this.

carers allowance is deducted from UC at a monthly rate of something like £302 per assessment period. This is more than the 4 weekly amount as it is worked out to a monthly rate.

UC should then get in contact to say that they accept the reason for late reporting. They then back pay the disability element to the date your child was awarded.

I have recently done this.
so far they have back payed carers element but not the disability. It seems it is looked at separately. But there should be no issue.

carers element is added on at something like £168 a month.
Child disability element I can’t remember the amounts but for low or middle rate care it’s something like £132 a month. £414 for hrc.

you might want to go on your previous statements and screen shot them as they will change them to show the new amounts when they backdate. So if you want to check they have done the correct amount, it’s good to know what you received before.

I reported the changes on the 13th dec. took about a week for the backdated carers element.
still not heard about the backdated disability.

if your child has middle or high rate care and you can claim the carers element, it puts you into the no work group. That means no work coach once this is done. So don’t put any messages under ‘message for work coach’ as they don’t get alerted.
