WTF is going on here? Very painful but irregular contractions plus childcare issues

I have been getting, all sodding DAY, contractions of about 40s to a minute duration. And they are painful-sit down and swear type painful (and thats through paracetemol etc)

BUT they are irregular, around 10 - 15 minutes, but sometimes 5 minutes. If I walk or stand they are more often and more intense.

Nothing is intensifying over time, except that it is a little more painful now than this morning.

My gut instinct is that this is probably false labour-the contractions are so irregular. BUT they are SO painful, I could definately use gas and air here.

But here's the thing-my mum does really need to go home tonight, and its a 3 hour drive. She WILL stay if need be, and she WILL turn around and come back, because she is like that, but I don't want her to. She is the only one who can look after the kids really (long story).

And I have just no idea what is going on. If this is false labour, why on earth is it so painful? WTF is going on?

I know I should probably call the MLU but my experience last time was that all they are interested in is the spacing of the contractions.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't let your mum go anywhere! That is a lot of contractions - and they have got more intense haven't they? Are you the lady who thought her baby was 'facing' the wrong way? If so - that may mean a longer labour right? And so explain what's going on here a bit. Hang in there! Good Luck

yes but if you're right - and send her home anyway - you'll mess up your carpets by delivering on them whilst waiting for your babysitter

Look - this is not your first time right? You know what a painful contraction feels like - if you're in pain it's because you're in labour - you can do this!

I would start knitting but I'm trying to do a job application form.....

Stand up and walk about. Definitely. For a set amount of time - if it all calms down, she can go home. If not.....

I've had v sore contractions with both my previous pregnancies. regular and sore for up to 4 hours (often in the middle of the night - grim).

Things that help are practising your breathing, using your TENs (get one if you've not done so already!), eating, bouncing on birthing ball, pacing and having a bath.

Could be the start of the real thing though!

sounds like the beginning of when I had DS2 so I decided to not sit down as I didn't want them to stop - I danced to MTV and he was out a few hours later!!

posterior presentation=irregular contractions, in my case anyway.

Didn't mean they weren't doing anything. Second Posterior labour took 21 hours most of which was pretty bearable (not much worse than quite bad period pain). But it was only 21 hours. Does your mum really need to go? Cos the timing is a little off...

If she just needs to pop home, maybe she could go now and come back first thing, if she's OK driving at nights...

Posterior my thoughts as well duchesse since contrx irregular, when baby is being active get down on your hands and knees to encourage baby to move, and yes let mum stay and you won't need to have any childcare worries and she will be needed soon anyway. Sending positive vibes your way

ooh - filly hasnt beenon in 2 hrs. is she- gettng the kids ready for bed or is she on hands and knees moving bay or is she well on her way
