WTF is going on here? Very painful but irregular contractions plus childcare issues

I have been getting, all sodding DAY, contractions of about 40s to a minute duration. And they are painful-sit down and swear type painful (and thats through paracetemol etc)

BUT they are irregular, around 10 - 15 minutes, but sometimes 5 minutes. If I walk or stand they are more often and more intense.

Nothing is intensifying over time, except that it is a little more painful now than this morning.

My gut instinct is that this is probably false labour-the contractions are so irregular. BUT they are SO painful, I could definately use gas and air here.

But here's the thing-my mum does really need to go home tonight, and its a 3 hour drive. She WILL stay if need be, and she WILL turn around and come back, because she is like that, but I don't want her to. She is the only one who can look after the kids really (long story).

And I have just no idea what is going on. If this is false labour, why on earth is it so painful? WTF is going on?

I know I should probably call the MLU but my experience last time was that all they are interested in is the spacing of the contractions.

Thoughts?

one tuna is it - without or without sweetcorn

NorthernLurker · 12/02/2008 12:56

no sweetcorn, thanks for the plaster. Do you think King Leopold of Belgium would have worn a black coat or a blue one to his niece's wedding?

dizzydixies · 12/02/2008 13:44

blue - always more regal

pass your plate then so I can get on with the dishes

TooTicky · 12/02/2008 14:23

Oh, have I missed lunch?
Here, have some chocolate cake.

dizzydixies · 12/02/2008 14:40

only got egg mayo left tooticky but could reheat spud in the microwave - either that or we move straight on to twoosies?!

TooTicky · 12/02/2008 15:52

Make that nearly foursies?

dizzydixies · 12/02/2008 15:57

absolutely

NorthernLurker · 12/02/2008 16:34

Did someone mention Cookies???

(NL rests weary stitching arms and muses: 'I've sorted the wedding, the Irish Potato famine and the corn laws. Better get stuck into Balmoral now')

When Filly eventually comes back to this thread I think she will be quite surprised!

dizzydixies · 12/02/2008 16:38

I think she'll be delighted we've been keeping up our strength and remaining productive in this fraught time, having never met her I hope she appreciates my lack of attention to housework through concern for her! lol

cookies demolished almost immediately
nearly tea time anyone?

TooTicky · 12/02/2008 16:46
NorthernLurker · 12/02/2008 16:47

Lol indeed.

Hoping you're doing well Filly

Shall we have chinese tonight?

NorthernLurker · 12/02/2008 16:48

Oh great steamship!!! Would you be a love and get on with a viaduct or two - I'm up to my armpits in the Great Exhibition now

FillyjonkisCALM · 12/02/2008 17:21

oh lol, you are all great!

ok it seems that it wasn't false labour

dd2 b at 1.17 next am (monday). 8 lb 10, home birth. All very nice for a supremely painful experience.

since then have been babymooning and am disapearing off again to do that in a bit

She is very lovely, has spent much of interim time asleep, she isn't that enthusiastic about breastfeeding (compared to the other 2) but we are getting that sorted.

thank you all! Am sorry to have kept you waiting but I have literally not turned on the computer until 5 minutes ago
