WTF is going on here? Very painful but irregular contractions plus childcare issues

I have been getting, all sodding DAY, contractions of about 40s to a minute duration. And they are painful-sit down and swear type painful (and thats through paracetemol etc)

BUT they are irregular, around 10 - 15 minutes, but sometimes 5 minutes. If I walk or stand they are more often and more intense.

Nothing is intensifying over time, except that it is a little more painful now than this morning.

My gut instinct is that this is probably false labour-the contractions are so irregular. BUT they are SO painful, I could definately use gas and air here.

But here's the thing-my mum does really need to go home tonight, and its a 3 hour drive. She WILL stay if need be, and she WILL turn around and come back, because she is like that, but I don't want her to. She is the only one who can look after the kids really (long story).

And I have just no idea what is going on. If this is false labour, why on earth is it so painful? WTF is going on?

I know I should probably call the MLU but my experience last time was that all they are interested in is the spacing of the contractions.

Thoughts?

Not that I'm really expecting you to come back and post this evening, so I don't know why I keep coming back...

Lulumama · 10/02/2008 22:51

i love these threads

make me very much want to give birth again ....

TooTicky · 10/02/2008 22:52

Same here Lulumama. How many dcs do you have?

Lulumama · 10/02/2008 22:54

two, DS 8.5 and DD 2.6.

DD was a VBAC, so if i did it again ( which i won't ) i;d have a home birth with my family and friends around me........

and get into my own bath and bed afterwards

not that i think about it at all....

how about you?

Lulumama · 10/02/2008 22:54

they are on my profile, i think they are quite sweet !

TooTicky · 10/02/2008 22:57

Oh yes, they are beautiful
I have 4 (11, 8, 6 and 2)
Give us a mo, I shall make you a mate and then you can see the pics.

Lulumama · 10/02/2008 22:58

okey doke...do you thikn you would like more ?

TooTicky · 10/02/2008 22:58

Okay, done

TooTicky · 10/02/2008 23:00

More? Tempting though it is, no. Four stretch my time and attention enough - any more and they wouldn't get all the attention they needed. Not to mention money and small house.
I loved pregnancy though and get quite nostalgic about birth and little baby stages.

Lulumama · 10/02/2008 23:02

what a gorgeous brood , absolutely lovely! and you knitted a dalek

TooTicky · 10/02/2008 23:04

crocheted

TooTicky · 10/02/2008 23:05

Dd1 was an emergency CS - was lucky to have 3 normal births afterwards.

Lulumama · 10/02/2008 23:05

wow ! crochet defeated me, i really, really tried too... i actually binned the hook and yarn i got so cross !

4 is a good number, my friend just had her fourth... even numbers seem to work well !

Lulumama · 10/02/2008 23:06

i had em c.s first too, i found it made me appreciate DDs birth all the more.... lovely to get up an hour or two after the birth and be able to bath and go to the loo and pick up your baby

TooTicky · 10/02/2008 23:10

I find crochet easier - I'm all elbows when I knit.

Yes, my cs was awful in so many ways - and then we had to stay in hospital for 4 days
I was out within hours with the others.

Lulumama · 10/02/2008 23:11

hmmmm. maybe i will try again!

i hope filly is doing ok, at least this has passed some waiting time...and stopeed the nail biting briefly!

TooTicky · 10/02/2008 23:13

It's maddening not knowing, isn't it? And realistically, she's not going to be rushing to the computer straight afterwards - maybe not for days

Lulumama · 10/02/2008 23:15

i am glad she has not had to be induced and has hopefulyl had a home birth or intervention free MLU birth

Lulumama · 10/02/2008 23:17

right, i must sleep !

nice to talk to you tooticky, sleep well thanks for sharing the pics of your lovely family
