Currently being induced - Can I ask to stop?

Was induced yesterday due to a scan the day before at 39+3 saying I had severe excess fluid. Had a pessary in for 24 hours and nothing has changed. I’ve been here for over 36 hours now, I’ve not slept and I’m struggling mentally.

Am I able to request a c section instead? My mum had a stillborn linked to induction, I’m at risk of cord prolapse the longer I go and I’m really working myself up and just don’t think having anything else shoved up me is going to be right for me 😞

Good luck tomorrow, glad you got it sorted! I’m having an elective section with my first in 2 months, for no real medical reason other than sheer terror so you can 100% request one after putting that shift in 😰 well done! Hope the section goes well x

Good Luck OP, you will be absolutely fine, my first section was almost enjoyable. It took away all the worry about what ifs and was a calm, pleasant process.

Good for you speaking up, I was very naive when I had my first. I had a 72hr induction at 41+3 (contractions started with my first pessary) which ended in me only being 5 1/2cm and baby in fetal distress. Emergency buzzer got pulled and was rushed down to theatre for an emergency c section. Baby was in the wrong position face upwards. Recovery was hard both mentally and physically. Had an elective with my second and it was brilliant. Wish you the best of luck.

What a great thread! All the best @Littlebee1990 🌺🌺🌺

Good luck, I've heard so many positive stories about planned c sections that I'm sure this will go so smoothly, before you know it your baby will be in your arms. Flowers

Good luck today OP.

I’m getting very tired of trusts not giving women the info they need to make an informed choice on mode of birth.

If a consultant decides that your baby needs to be born before you go into spontaneous labour then your choices are always induction OR caesarean and they should be presented to you as such. But that rarely ever happens, you’re offered induction and caesarean birth is only mentioned if you refuse or if induction isn’t working. That’s completely wrong and the recent recommendations from the Ockenden report make this very clear.

If anyone reading this is facing this situation and doesn’t want / isn’t sure they want an induction, be clear that you know you are entitled to choose between induction and caesarean and ask for the information you need to make an informed choice. If they don’t agree, mention the Ockenden report because they should be all over this right now.

I really hope this is sorted for you quickly OP Flowers

Yay! Fab news! Im here awaiting an update of babe!

Littlebee1990 · 15/05/2021 10:26

Argh not a good update I’m afraid but I’m holding back the tears because I don’t want to stress baby or myself out..

Was told Dr would be round around 8am.. I’m still waiting. Have been on a monitor since 8:02AM as babies HR keeps dipping but that “could” be because of how much fluid I’ve got .. I’ve been told I’m next on the Drs list to speak to.. not had ANY fluids or pre op stuff done and it’s nearly 10.30.. I’ve been without food and drink from 2am and I just cannot do another day of nil by mouth for them to tell me again that emergencies come up. Surely it’s not good to do this to a pregnant women and baby!

I was told I had to be induced because I couldn’t go past my due date.. my due date is TOMORROW. I went without food and drink from 7-5.30 yesterday and was ready to walk in to theatre today.. if the same thing happens again today I’ll go find the damn theatre and do it myself.

I have been in hospital for over 4 days now and seen about 30 women come and go with their babies in beds next to me, it’s fuc**ing torture.

I thinks it’s time to cause a bit of a stink op, if baby’s heart rate is dropping they need to crack on.
