Currently being induced - Can I ask to stop?

Was induced yesterday due to a scan the day before at 39+3 saying I had severe excess fluid. Had a pessary in for 24 hours and nothing has changed. I’ve been here for over 36 hours now, I’ve not slept and I’m struggling mentally.

Am I able to request a c section instead? My mum had a stillborn linked to induction, I’m at risk of cord prolapse the longer I go and I’m really working myself up and just don’t think having anything else shoved up me is going to be right for me 😞

@sarah13xx, I can’t bear the thought of a cannula in my hand. I have had two c-sections and both times I asked them to put it in my arm and they did no problem. Just a thought if it’s the hand that really bothers you!

@Bromeliads I have seen people have that before, I might say that. I’m just over thinking the fact they put it inside then along your vein and I feel like my hand is so boney to do that 😩

@sarah13xx, I know exactly what you mean! For some reason, the arm didn’t seem quite so grim to me and they really didn’t mind at all. It’s easier not to look at it too...!

@Bromeliads I’m such a scaredy cat that this is all I’m worrying about but definitely going to ask for it, just looked it up and it seems a lot of people do

Congratulations OP, your story brings back some (bad) memories for me. Almost exactly the same experience apart from going to theatre and being delayed (again) because the water was cut off to the hospital!! So glad you are both well and happy 😊

@Littlebee1990 Big congratulations to you 😊
I just wanted to say I read all of your thread just now and it made me cry. I’m currently feeding my 2 day old son - I had an elective c-section on Friday (day before you had your son?).
You went through so much, I’m in awe.
I don’t know how I would have coped with it - they were advising induction for me at 39 weeks due to my advanced age and his expected size, but I had already asked for a section which was agreed at a 32 week appt.
I’m so sorry you had to go through all of that, reading your updates has made me feel very fortunate.

Great news now though! I’m so pleased. Hope you’re both doing well. We were allowed home after one night, got home yesterday, and although I’m in a little bit of discomfort, it’s not too bad at all and easily manageable with paracetamol and ibuprofen. I would have a c section again in a heartbeat. I’m sure it’ll be the same for you. Enjoy your beautiful new son and a massive well done to you!
