Hello folks,

40+12 today. Third pregnancy but first baby. We don’t know the gender. Five years in the making with iui, icsi, ivf and finally donated eggs and sperm. Looooong story.

Was all set for home birth despite being 41 and having GD but my very comfy baby is not interested in being evicted.

I was ok waiting- it’s been an easy pregnancy but we just don’t want to put baby at any risk. So here we are. Told to come in at 8am. 11am tried a sweep but I am sealed like an Egyptian tomb. Just back from curry and walk and waiting for pessary. Join me for the fun!??!

@Angliski

A year tomorrow !!!!!!!

shutupsteph · 17/01/2020 23:21

How are you getting on @angliski? x

Angliski · 17/01/2020 23:30

I tell you. These vaginal exams. They rummage like they are in a bloody jumble sale.

24 hours up one pessary out. Rummage - cue Angliski fury. Ouch ouch. Anyway apparently cervix is softer and she did manage to stab the inside with her finger but no sweeps etc.

So now second pessary has gone in. MW silenced me with gas and air and in it went.

Now we wait again.

So much monitoring and measuring - wee and blood and sugar and pills and blood pressure and vag. How am I supposed to keep my nice oxytocin vibe!!!

Anyway here we go for round two of pessary. So another 24 hours. If we are nowhere by this time tomorrow I might discharge myself for a night with my cat and my bed. Or I might say for fucks sake elcs me people.

Will report any night activity.

Big sulky face. ConfusedAngryXmas Biscuit

Aw! I'm sorry, OP! I hope things get moving soon. You've made a nice home for that baby and he/she doesn't want to leave it! We are here cheering you on. Lovely pictures too.

tobee · 18/01/2020 00:01

Ouch! I remember clearly vaginal exams when I had dd 24 years ago!

Like the cat! Hope you get some sleep at some point!

Blahblahblahnanana · 18/01/2020 00:03

How am I supposed to keep my nice oxytocin vibe!!! try keeping your room dimly lit (no bright lights), playing music (if it relaxes you) and asking your MW to be quiet when doing obs ect. You could also have a bath to relax you.

You can also decline vaginal examinations once in labour.

Blahblahblahnanana · 18/01/2020 00:07

Also if you have a bath you could try some breast hand expressing. You need to do it for about 10/15 minutes each breast, it can trigger contractions and you could also collect the colostrum to give to baby if you have any problems establishing BF if you plan to BF, or you could just give it baby anyway if you decide to formula feed.

Blahblahblahnanana · 18/01/2020 00:10

If you decide to hand express ask your MW for a syringe and ask her to put it in the fridge. It can be stored in the fridge for 5 days

Ooh this is so exciting!! I had a live induction thread under another name and read it back the other night, it's so weird but lovely reading back everything that happened, it's so easy to forget things that happened and feelings felt when you're caught up in the newborn chaos!!
And don't be disheartened, I had a slow induction too, but it all ramped up after the third pessary and baby was born 12 hours later!

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 18/01/2020 00:17

Following! How are you feeling OP?

GetTheSprinkles · 18/01/2020 00:19

I'm guessing boy born today at 18.45! Good luck OP!

Thesearmsofmine · 18/01/2020 00:25

Good luck OP, such an exciting time Flowers

DramaAlpaca · 18/01/2020 00:26

Hope you don't mind if I plonk myself down in your thread, OP, I'm enjoying it immensely. Wishing you the best of luck Shamrock

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 18/01/2020 00:37

I'm guessing girl, born at...8.26 tomorrow night

Guineapiggiesmalls · 18/01/2020 00:38

Oh, good luck! I’m going for a baby girl at 11:30 tomorrow morning, but hope I wake up to good news from you!

hazandduck · 18/01/2020 00:47

Good luck, OP! I’m guessing it’s a girl, 8lbs 2oz, born tomorrow at 12.30pm.

The view from your hospital room is lovely! I had DD at Winchester and remember waking up to such a lovely view (she was born late at night and I was too knackered to realIse where I was really til the next morning!)

Hope everything goes smoothly for you x

PixieDustt · 18/01/2020 00:51

Oh how exciting!
I reckon boy, 7lb 8oz born 18th Janurary at 14:56 !

PixieDustt · 18/01/2020 00:54

I was the same OP! I had x2 pessary's and the gel and didn't dilate!
Had to have a break for 24hrs first pessary of 2nd round and it started to work, 2nd popped in (I had to use gas and air too! Found it way too painful) that was about 1am checked at 8am for 3rd pessary but was 3cm and waters broken! Felt like forever 🤣

Streamside · 18/01/2020 00:55

Girl 8lbs 3oz born 18th at 3.30pm

Angliski · 18/01/2020 01:43

I really hope your sweep stakes are right and little one is born tomorrow!! I think it’s a girl but your first did as good as mine! Thanks for keeping me company. I’ve had a shower, watched the first episode of series two of sex education on Netflix and off to bed now. Will try expressing again tomorrow - o only ever get one or two tony drops bit o probably need to be more persistent.

Good luck OP.

I totally sympathise, had wanted a home birth and found the induction process so frustrating, I lost count of the amount of hands having a rummage up me!

Don't be disheartened by things stop starting. What would work beautifully at home in your own environment needs to work even harder when you're in hospital. Ask if they have mobile monitors for when you go on the drip, I needed to move!

The drip works and it is intense! But I ended up having a two hour labour and a healthy DD. We were home 3 hours later.

sittingonacornflake · 18/01/2020 06:26

Ok I change my bet. I now say 4:30am Sunday morning Grin hope you're doing well Op.

Magissa · 18/01/2020 09:18

11.55 a boy.
I too had an awkward squatter due on the 9th born on the 25th. Two pessaries did nothing. Doctor broke waters and put me on a drip. Baby finally born five hours later. As pp said the drip made it very fast.
Good luck!
