Anyone else waiting for labour?!

Hello
I'm 39+4 with first baby and am poised waiting for labour to kick in any time this week or next week. Just wondered if anyone else was foot taping waiting for their bundle of joy to fill the crib?!! Confused
Also any thoughts on whether swimming still ok?! Am trying to keep busy but would hate for waters to break in a public pool Shock

Well done emsyj. Jealous.

I had a sweep today but my cervix is long. What does that mean! What is a cervix? Nothing got separated anyway :(

Congratulations Emsy!! Well done. That's lovely news. It sounds like you had a lovely birth experience.

Nothing here yet, I'm now 40+4, been bouncing in the birthing ball today....and I've baked....is the baking a sign do you think Wink

Congratulations emsy Grin

I'm 37+6, so a touch early to be impatient really, but hey Smile it has to happen sometime, right?

Is it weird that I'm quite enjoying the BH? They feel quite tingly... I am aware that the actual labour won't be the same though!!

Congrats emsy!!!! That amazing news and how lovely to have such a wonderful experience.
I'm still waiting. Getting super tired now, especially after having to take my dd to soft play ( jumping on bouncy castles, chasing my dd around) then having to skip my nap and take her to the park!! I'm so tired I could cry and my friends still want to meet up to c me :( help I need to go into labour to have a break lol

My sweep was almost painless so don't worry too much. Didn't do anything though. Hoping for another at hospital tomorrow. Hoovering now in case that helps :(

Feeling extremely fed up today. My midwife had promised to do a sweep today because I have had painful BH every night for a couple of weeks now, so not much sleep. Got to appointment to find she was off sick and her cover said she wouldn't do a sweep before 41 weeks. Aaaaargh!

Only appointment available for 40 wks (next wk) is at a different surgery, in another village and at a time I am doing the school run. I have been told it is that or nothing. Have booked the appointment but can't see how I am going to be able to do it as don't have anyone who could do the school run for me.

That's shite NAR. Would they send someone to you if you made a fuss?

Barry is fecking huge. I'm now more worried about whopping him out on the table than giving birth which I suppose is good in a way.

How you feeling limeleaf?

Bum grapes?! Maybe I should look for them before stripping off for any more checks...
Had a Term+10 check up today and a sweep (which has had no effect) and the baby had a really low heart rate when the braxton hicks came on so I am back in tomorrow at 9:30 to be induced.
No lovely home birth like I planned!
Really gutted actually, I feel like a failure for not doing it my way and letting them talk me into this but it seems wrong to take any chances.
Hope it's a quick induction or I go suddenly tonight!

Aw that's a shame. Don't feel like a failure though. I would do the same - you have to err on the side if caution.

Fingers crossed you get some movement tonight!

Fingers crossed for you baby I'm sorry you might not get the birth u had planned but it still might happen for you :) I hope it does. Hopefully seeing lots of babies being born on one born every minute will make us all go into labour lol. Mind u I have a docs app for my dd tomorrow which I really don't want to miss so might not b the best for me to go into labour lol.
I'm so active running around after dd I'm surprised nothing has happened yet.

Congratulations emsy! We're all hoping to follow in your footsteps....quickly!

Sorry to hear your labour will not be as you'd hoped babyclam. Perhaps focus that in a day your baby should be with you?! I'm a first timer so am lacking wisdom and experience!

40 plus 3 for me today, still nothing to make me think it's imminent. It's on the to do list to seduce husband and see if any action helps, but the combination of indigestion, groaning whenever I move and a 'Barry' of my own it's hard to get in the mood!!

Come on baby, get diving out!!!!

Thanks everyone!
I suggested trying to help the baby out naturally but DP is very squeamish, especially since the midwife doing the sweep said she could feel the head!

My DH was feeling the same as yours Babyclam until I pointed out that it might be his last chance for several months. He was suddenly much keener on giving it a go.

NAR4 · 07/02/2013 15:16

Babyclam hope the induction starts things off quickly for you. I was induced with all four of mine and you just need to remember that at least it means you are soon to meet your baby.

Report
LimeLeafLizard · 07/02/2013 16:16

Hi all... babyclam you have my sympathy, as I am heading along the same road. It is disappointing to miss your homebirth but I think you're making the right decision and at least it won't be too much longer until you meet your baby.

I am 39+6 and have just been booked for induction a week on Sat - i.e. 40+8. I have until Mon if I want a homebirth, after that I have to go into hospital even if labour starts spontaneously. I'm confident that this is a good plan, the right balance of weighing up the risks, but despite all this logic, the waiting is so frustrating! After several sweeps the doc still doesn't think I am anywhere near labour and meanwhile I'm getting dozens of texts asking if there's any news etc.

Babyclam and lizard, it's a shame you might not get the births you want, hope things start of for you soon.
I'm in similar situation at 40+6 I've had GD in last two pregnancies and was induced on due date both times.
This time no GD and they leaving me to go into labour on my own...unfortunately the baby hasn't realised this and seems to be studying put.
Just got home from my sweep, 1cm dilated, cervix soft and stretchy and two fifth engaged.
Wasn't very uncomfortable at all.
Induction booked for next Wednesday Hmm
