Anyone else waiting for labour?!

Hello
I'm 39+4 with first baby and am poised waiting for labour to kick in any time this week or next week. Just wondered if anyone else was foot taping waiting for their bundle of joy to fill the crib?!! Confused
Also any thoughts on whether swimming still ok?! Am trying to keep busy but would hate for waters to break in a public pool Shock

Ha ha I have a sweep too on Friday. Last time with dd1 it was a male doc that did it with a super deep monotone voice, bit awkward. This time round it's my friendly midwife. Hope she is more gentle than the last one, it killed!!!!

Still nowt happening apart from the odd grumbling. Watched Call the Midwife to encourage baby out, hasn't worked Grin.

Hope all these signs mean babies are on their way! Good luck girls!

I watched call the midwife and it made me want to cross my legs, firmly.

...three. Last time had 2 sweeps that did nothing...was sent home with instructions to get a "natural sweep" from dh if nothing happened. He suceeded in breaking my waters but day later no labour so then the drugs came out. He's banned this time despite his pleas!!

Hello
I am 39 weeks and since Saturday evening I think something may be starting !!!

I have been having braxton hicks?/contractions, which have been coming and going, feeling naseaus, had tightening of the bump, weeing and pooing more often, not sure if I am trickleing my waters? its hard to tell as I need to wee all the time. Tonight whilst ironing I have had really bad tummy ache and am generally feeling yuk.

I think this is definately the start of something?? I hope so ??? I am trying to keep busy taking the dog for a long walk/waddle, cleaning etc, I am hungry and eating and the pains keep coming and going and I know things can go on for days.

My lovely friends are throwing me a baby shower on Tuesday so i'd like to enjoy that but also I am so ready to meet my baby, just want it to happen.

Oooh cupcake, awkward indeed! Did it work though?
Sleep, sounds like your DH was thorough Wink
Very romantic my DH, he said " I'll irritate your cervix if you like" Grin
Ermm thanks darling sounds lovely.
Had frequent Braxton hicks in the night that woke me up, but nothing this morning. Although I am so tired I've just had a little sleep before I brave Tesco.
All the best everyone for today. Hope we at least one of these little babies out today.

I'm slightly crampy nothing to write home about though.

Bloody knackering this last bit isn't it!

I got over my ewwwwwwww yuk feeling about it and had a sweep this afternoon - just been to the loo and lots of pink-streaked discharge... MW said I am 2-3cm and cervix very soft, waters bulging so am feeling hopeful. She will do another sweep on Thursday if this one doesn't work.

PickledInAPearTree · 04/02/2013 18:35

Was it ok? I have that feeling too.

Hopefully that will start you off...

Report
emsyj · 04/02/2013 20:40

It took 2 attempts because I was so tense the first time and I asked MW to stop. It made a massive difference when I actively tried to relax and breathe deeply etc - so I can recommend doing that! It wasn't embarrassing or anything like that, I am pretty shameless so wasn't bothered about whipping off my pants but the thing that I was worried about was the pain of the fingers Blush - I could actually feel the discomfort of that easing as I consciously breathed and released the tension.

It is ridiculous really, because I was v-examined in labour last time and then due to DD's distress a male obstetrician had to place a clip on her head, and I didn't feel a thing with either process - not a millisecond of pain, it was no different from someone putting my hair in a ponytail or shaking my hand. It's all in the mind I reckon.

I'm getting a bit if braxton hicks like contractions with lower back pain and slight period pain. I'm not sure though. What is it like starting labour? I was induced first time so it was litreally, waters went pop, Hollywood gush of water and then massive painful contractions, horrific. What's it like at the start of natural labour?

Report
emsyj · 04/02/2013 21:28

OK waters have properly gone now!!! Huge unmistakable gush.

I don't really know what it's like at the start of natural labour Cupcake - because I can't bloody remember! Blush My waters went pop last time, then about 3 hours later I had mild contractions, sort of 'Oh is this a contraction??' type feeling, which must have built up I suppose, to a point where I was pacing, breathing and mooing. I was 9cm on admission last time so can't have been that bad - still bricking it now though!!!!

ImGoingToCountToThree · 04/02/2013 21:37

Cupcake and Emsy that's really good news sounds like your on your way! Very jealous Wink
I'm not sure how it feels either as I have been induced with both previous pregnancies.

The comment on mooing made me smile, I remember whilst in labour thinking I can hear a cow and then the realisation it was actually me Smile

Dh is down stairs working in his office think I will tell him once I am feeling a pattern because nearly every night for a week I've been thinking I have pains lol. I thought it was plug, waters and then contractions but apparently it's not necessarily in that order.
That's amazing emsy about ur waters!! That's so exciting!!

Report
emsyj · 04/02/2013 21:57

I'm now sitting on a folded up towel as they periodically gush... DH has gone to get my DMum to come and sit with DD. Contractions seem to have started, but feel quite mild - will call midwife again when they get stronger. Have already texted her to alert! Where I live they are piloting a 'One 2 One' service which is brilliant, and means a midwife (whom I know, whom I have seen for all my appointments from the start) will come to the house to assess me at home before I go to hospital. She would deliver me here but I'm too scared!

OH its all moving on! Good news good luck emsy

I didnt lose a thing last time, not until I was in very very active labour cupcake so dont wait for that!

Mine started with period pain type cramps which increased over 12 hours in intensity until they were unmistakeable and I went in 5 mins apart like they say I as 3/4 CM by that point.

I had a baby girl at home this morning at 3.40am Grin. Didn't plan a home birth but midwife was here and no real reason to transfer so I stayed put. The front room is a bit of a mess though, I think the rug is for the bin - thankfully a cheapo Ikea one!!!

No tears or stitches, one minor graze and new DD2 is feeding happily for the millionth time - DH has taken DD1 to soft play, so watching trashy TV and relaxing with my new baby. This is soooooo much nicer than my last new baby experience!!! Amazing - just the most powerful, incredible, bizarre experience ever, and feeling GREAT. Smile

Disclaimer: I may be faintly foggy in the head as I haven't actually been to bed yet....
