Hi all. I am 38 plus 5 days pregnant and just wondering if there is any MN out there getting a little impatient with all this waiting. I am getting a lot of sharp pains and some back ache but nothing that really indicates that I will be going into labour any day soon. Anyone else feeling the same??? My EDD is 26th August - the day after my birthday so am looking forward to a really speacial birthday present Smile

emma...sorry, didn't mean to rub it in. just wanted you to hear a positive birth story as well and i agree, don't you dare shut up! we're all in this together now whether we like it or not!

roz... pleased your mw appt went well. mw mentioned that i'll be getting one next friday if i still haven't done the bump to baby conversion course!
as for the bump measuring.. i swear my mw just picks a number each week! i don't think its a very precise science!

VickstaS · 27/08/2010 18:12

Hello all. Baby alexander arrived on 24th august at 10:44 pm weighing 9 lb 9 oz. I won't give full details of the labour as it was pretty horrendous! Forceps delivery 50 h after first contractions. And I had PPH and Alex had cord round his neck. I also had a fever due to waters being broken for too long, so we have both been on antibiotics and only got home today. Hope you all have easier labours than mine was!

tweakers · 27/08/2010 18:14

sorry x posting like a wotsit here! i had to stop typing and fix a picture of a train that had mysteriously been changed into a few scraps of paper Hmm can't imagine how that happened!

Roz, you'd better not be having any loving from my DH! Grin

EmmaRoyd · 27/08/2010 18:14

EmmaRoyd · 27/08/2010 18:18

congratulations VickstaS! I hope you are feeling ok after all that. Must be good to be home.

EmmaRoyd · 27/08/2010 18:24

It's good to hear about everyone's experiences good and bad. I have to say you have all made me feel much better about having a sweep, I've realised my James Herriot style fisting can't have been the norm.

tweakers · 27/08/2010 18:25

that's good. just hoping your mw doesn't put gloves on that go up to her elbows when she does yours Grin

Roz14 · 27/08/2010 19:35

Congratulationa VickstaS Smile put your feet up and have a cup of tea now your home.

tweakers - LOL, wouldn't dare Grin. I know what you mean about the MW measuring the bump during appointments.

Upto 32 weeks one MW measured me 1 week ahead at every visit and then another one measured me exact for my dates 32-39 weeks. Today a differnt midwife again says I am 1 week ahead again Confused

ooh thanks for reminding me iniz... we're having a bottle of rose tonight and i've forgotten to put it in the fridge!

that's ok then roz Wink
although i'm not sure he's going to get any tonight...he's just told me to put the wine in the fridge because he needs to be drunk to give me any loving...he has now been dispatched to the fish and chip shop!

apparently swallowing your OH's love juice will help get things moving as well (but i'm pretty convinced it was a man who started that particular rumour!)

Jen99 · 27/08/2010 21:08

In case anyone was wondering where I had gone just popping on quickly to announce the arrival of George David on 25/08 at 0205 hrs weighing 9lb 3oz. Waters went very slowly at midday on the 24th but nothing else really happening at first. Went in at 6pm as waters had gone with v. mild contractions. Considering sending me home at around 8pm but went down to the labour ward instead where the cx really got going and was soon back in the delivery suite and George was born at 0205. Just gas and air and no stiches - really pleases as got the VBAC I had so been hoping for and feel so much better than after the emcs. Was back at home by 1pm.
Apologies if I have missed any other arrivals as haven't had time to read through the rest of the thread.

Hope things get moving for everyone soon. One thing that may have helped - I took DS1 to soft play on Monday and bounced on the bouncy castle fro at least 20 mins then walked around an entire Tesco Extra store - knackered me out by may be worth a try!!

VicstaS - Congratulations! Sorry for your difficulties. Glad to hear you're both home safely. Alex is a gorgeous name.

Jen - Congratulations! Glad to hear you feel so good. Sounds like bouncing may be the thing!

Growingbump2 - with any luck a helicopter ambulance will distract you from any niggly contractions a little!

Inzi - OMG @ 11lbs! Yum @ pizza and wine. I'm still getting mad cravings!

WRT inducing labour:

There are pressure points on the feet (you can google and youtube) that when stimulated can induce labour.

It is not recommended until you are 41 weeks but apparently they are highly effective. There are points for inducing contractions, strengthening contractions and for speeding things up if they slow down.

There are also other body points for pain relief, supposedly reducing contraction pain from 1minute down to 15 seconds Shock.

I was going to try in the interest of getting bub on the due date but chickened out (it was too late in the day) and settled for a gentle foot massage instead.

My sister was treated for an incompetent cervix and on her way out of the consultants rooms one day he said, "remember, no intercourse and definately no foot massages".

tweakers - LOL @ need to be drunk! Hope the fish and chips were good (damn those cravings!). My DH is a bit reluctant on the bedroom front also these days. Bless him though, he does say 'yes' when I demand it but usually waits so long I'm asleep before any action Hmm.Cheeky bugger!

I read those threads about man juice inducing labour and agree with your theory. Most of it would have been done in by stomach acid and hepatic first pass (liver processing)!

Anyway, congrats to all the new bubs and Mums. My due date has come and gone so I'm just gonna settle in now and be prepared for bub to come when he/she is ready (within 10 days of course). Maybe it'll be September after all!

tweakers · 28/08/2010 05:42

good morning all
DH asleep, DS asleep, DD very much not asleep so i've come downstairs for a hot chocolate Smile

fish and chips were ok. DH got rock and (you're going to think me really weird) but it was really fishey! I've never had rock before. Chips were lovely though!

DH has made an animated film clip thing. Not sure how funny you'll think it is because you don't know us both in RL but here it is anyway if you've got a minute!

I love this time of the morning, everything's so peaceful

jungle hmm, i'm intrigued about that foot massage thing....

WelcometotheJungle · 28/08/2010 06:46

tweakers - wow! what a creative DH you have. I'm guessing he's hanging out for some adrenalin surges, shouldn't be too long now.
LOL @ 'done all her washing and made cookies'.

Good work both of you, I imagine keeping a sense of humour may be vital at this point in time.

tweakers · 28/08/2010 08:37

thanks jungle. it apparently took him 3hrs last night which meant he was reluctant to get up with DS this morning but yes, he's v creative! Quite typically the weather is perfect today for skydiving and he's really itching to go! due date tomorrow though and he's banned from jumping today!! this may sound mean but he gets completely sucked in when he goes, forgets to eat/drink/check his mobile etc Not helpful if i go into labour!!

tweakers · 28/08/2010 08:55

oh and sod's law is being properly provoked this weekend...my mw's in Manchester Hmm

porcamiseria · 28/08/2010 09:27

2 more !!! well I am officially overdue now. I am going to be humpty dumpty forever I think

have made some plans for next week as its all LOOMING in front of me!

head not engaged either

too tired to even type, keep posting ladies

tweakers · 28/08/2010 09:37

chin up porca, look at it this way... it really can't go on forever. Either way, at most we've got two weeks left...unless of course you're an elephant!

making plans for next week sounds like a good idea Smile

DH told me yesterday that he's popping out for the day on thursday with DS. i commented that that would be nice, thinking i was getting a day off but was surprised he was taking a day's holiday before baby's here. Apparently his paternity will have started by then so he won't need to take any hols HmmGrin I'm wondering what he knows that i don't know!!

EmmaRoyd · 28/08/2010 09:38

tweakers that's brilliant. You do have a very creative DH. We had fish and chips last night too, I've been craving it a lot this pregnancy. I know what you mean about rock! DISGUSTING! Usually I have cod or haddock but thought I'd give rock a go a few weeks back thinking it would be similar it wasn't. Bleurgh.

Anyone doing anything nice this weekend? I woke up this morning and thought oh bloody hell, I'm not STILL pregnant am I. Need to think of something to do to keep my mind off it. DD is still with MIL so DH wants to use the opportunity to watch loads and loads of TV! I wish he would go skydiving the bloody couch potato.
