Hi all. I am 38 plus 5 days pregnant and just wondering if there is any MN out there getting a little impatient with all this waiting. I am getting a lot of sharp pains and some back ache but nothing that really indicates that I will be going into labour any day soon. Anyone else feeling the same??? My EDD is 26th August - the day after my birthday so am looking forward to a really speacial birthday present Smile

Cosmosis · 26/08/2010 17:31

yay, congrats Clove :)

just back from my sweep, it wasn't too uncomfortable, a bit like a smear. Don't think it will have done anything though as cervix still quite closed apparently :(

poppy283 · 26/08/2010 17:57

Hi all! My baby girl Orla was born by emcs at 1am on Tuesday 24th, 8lbs 8oz, we've come home today all happy and healthy :)

EmmaRoyd · 26/08/2010 18:18

inzi I just went a litle wobbly when I read the midwife pulled your cervix Confused. Sorry Roz if I've scared you about the sweep, as you can see it's not painful for everyone Smile. I can't believe what's happened to my afternoon. MIL has picked up DD to take her off my hands for a couple of days, I didn't know what to do with my afternoon but at 1pm I thought I'll just go for a little snooze and I've just woken up five hours later!!!Shock I've completely missed my MW appointment at 4.20 and cant get another until 1st september. I guess all the recent insomnia has caught up with me.

EmmaRoyd · 26/08/2010 18:20

ooh sorry just catching up, contratulations clove Grin wonderful news!

EmmaRoyd · 26/08/2010 18:23

and poppy Grin

porcamiseria · 26/08/2010 18:42

congrats to both! they do eventually come out!!!

its been pissing it down, so against better judgement ventured to wacky warehouse, how those kids dont break their necks I dont know

well its due date tomorrow, nothing doing here....

based London

growingbump2 · 26/08/2010 18:45

Congrats Clove and Poppy - clove you have given me hope that this baby will arrive one day as we had same due date! Am in Isle of Man by the way those who were asking about sunshine, it is fab but unfortunalty the Manx Grand Prix is on at the moment which basically means that this week the roads (which they use as the race track) are closed between 6 - 9 pm and next week mon, wed, fri all day between 9 - 5 pm the only way to labour ward is via helicopter ambulance! Fingers crossed for some more babies tonight!

tweakers · 26/08/2010 19:41

argh! just typed a great long post, pressed 'post message' and then found out that DS had turned the wireless off so i lost it all Confused

i'll try and regurgitate it Grin

congratulations poppy, gorgeous name! v pleased to hear you're both home, safe and well

growingbump blimey! having the local roads closed is quite an extreme use of sod's law!

porca i'm in london too
you're a braver woman than me for going to wacky warehouse!

emma i've v jealous of your lovely nap! can't remember the last time i slept that long...hmm, probably since before I was pg with DS!

i've got a mw's appt tomorrow, not sure what to do if she offers me a sweep. I'm not worried about her actually doing it, she a bit concerned that baby will come earlier than she's meant to iyswim. re school there's such a huge difference between her being born in aug or sept... decisions decisions! but presumably, if she's not ready to show her pretty face yet, then the sweep won't work, is that right? also, will she routinely check what my cervix is up to? i do want to know but i don't want to ask her to check. she already thinks i'm a bit weird Blush

i'd better get our list updated Smile

EmmaRoyd · 26/08/2010 20:05

tweakers I'm not sure she will offer you one as you aren't even due yet. Everywhere seems to be different though, I know some people get offered one on the due date. I think my appointment (that I missed today) was just the usual listen to heartbeat, check blood pressure and urine. I've had a separate app through with a hospital midwife for 41 weeks which is when I'll be offered the sweep. I wouldn't worry about a sweep making baby come early though as it won't come if its not ready. Know what you mean about the school thing but me and my sister are august babies and mum said it never affected us. What do you think Roz your a late august baby and didn't you say a teacher too?

tweakers · 26/08/2010 20:18

oh for goodness sake!! just found out that my mum is still drinking FFS!!! how is she going to drive DS from my house to hers if she's had a drink?? She's got the option of staying here with DS but she didn't want to do that. She has said all along that she wants him at hers. fair enough but, she assumed that DH would drive DS over there. but that leaves me on my own. DS labour was only 7hrs and i didn't even realise it was that long to be honest. it was only because i was at the hospital and they kept saying, ooh so that's another contraction. i didn't believe them until i actually started feeling them properly which wasn't that long before he was actually born

i really really don't want to be on my own in labour. I think i've managed to convince her to make tonight her last night of wine Confused

i hope nothing happens tonight.....

DancingOnMyBladder · 26/08/2010 20:19

Evening everyone!

Congratulations cloveofhislife and poppy283!!

Is it just me, or do a lot of us seem to be expecting girls?

I had a trip out to order my pushchair today. A bit late i know! And we now have to wait 7 working days for it to arrive. Then DH dragged me round town because he wanted to buy a big fat cuban cigar and whisky to celebrate the baby's arrival. Don't ask me why because he doesn't smoke and never has done but it's something my dad treated him to when our first DS was born and now it's his little tradition!

I've also been thinking it's probably best school wise to hang on until September. Today (10 days early) is the day my youngest arrived so i was sort of hoping this one would come even earlier but no such joy.

I hope we have some more babies arrive soon. You ladies who are already overdue must be going crazy!

Take care xxx

tweakers · 26/08/2010 20:26

ooh you're stealing some of sod's law as well but having a 7 day wait for your pushchair dancing! what one did you get?

EmmaRoyd · 26/08/2010 20:39

I have the same thing with my mum, she drinks wine every night and not a small amount either. Also DH the last couple of weeks has been trying to cram in some last minute drinking, thinking its ok as long as he is home by eight in the evening it doesn't matter if he has had a few pints. What kind of reasoning is that!!? I had a huge shouting RANT last week saying how I can't rely on anyone to drive me anywhere and I'm going to be all on my own with no-one to take care of DS. Then I just burst into tears. Anyway DH has stopped drinking and now DD is with MIL for a couple of days. ALSO.. I found out my mum has booked a holiday to spain with her boyfriend mid september and couldn't understand why I was slightly surprised and upset. She said but you will have had the baby by then!! I said well I know that but I sort of hoped you might be around to help me with DD1 and my two week old baby when DH has to go back to work after his paternity leave.

EmmaRoyd · 26/08/2010 20:41

sorry I meant DD not DS! I was so busy ranting I just refered to my daughter as a boy.

cinnamongreyhound · 26/08/2010 20:53

Congratulations poppy283 must have missed your post!

My mum drinks a lot too but lives a mile away so DH can go and pick her up to stay here if I go into labour at night without leaving me for too long!

That's rubbish EmmaRoyd, you will be fine without her and just think what she is missing in those early days with her grandchild.

tweakers · 26/08/2010 21:21

emma... mine's booked a holiday in mid sept too! i too, was hoping for some help once DH back at work, hey ho, we'll all be fine

cinnamon.. mine doesn't live far away either but she has been adamant that she doesn't want to stay at ours with DS ...despite there not being anywhere for him to sleep at hers other than sharing her double bed with her. not a problem as such but he's such a wriggler a) she won't get any sleep b) he's very likely to fall out of bed. Her solution? oh she's going to put a pillow on the floor next to his side Hmm

anyhow, i'm not worrying about any of it. i'm just thinking calm happy thoughts...honest!

cinnamongreyhound · 26/08/2010 21:36

If labour starts before his bedtime I will happily take him there but I'm not getting him up in the middle of the night to transport him somewhere and she is happy with that! Says she won't sleep once she knows I'm in labour anyway, I was induced at 8pm on Weds with DS and they called DH back at 4.30am Thursday and he wasn't born until 11.20am on the Friday so she was up all of the Thursday night and turned up at the hospital at 9am Friday even though we told her they wouldn't let her in. At least DS will keep her at home and occupied this time around! It's all a what if's at the moment anyway tweakers so try not to worry :)
