My name is Hillbilly and I'm a camping junkie (or camping nerd as I was recently called!). I spend so much time on this topic here on MN it's almost embarrassing. Nuff said :-)

Wow Greige - your normal tent looks amazing - I have never seen one of those before. How do you transport the wooden poles?

The Urban Escape looks quite good - that is Halfords more luxury brand isn't it? So should be better quality than the basic Halfords tent. What made you decide to go modern? Is it to travel more lightly?

Woa - love that Viking tent! (do you do re-enactments?) :o

I'm very taken with the Gothic Hexagonal tent on that site but it would mean divorce if I brought it home...

Cool, love the Viking tent a lot Smile

I'm now a nearly proud owner of an EHU unit. I finally succumbed. UK camping broke me. I want a dry towel.

Sorry - went to bed after posting!

The viking tent poles are transported on roof bars on the van, we do historical re-enactment, so usually have that and a load of other kit with us.

We decided to get a modern tent so we can have a family holiday that doesn't involve dressing up...we plan to take the dc to Kerry or West Cork for a week. That means no van and I don't have roof bars on the car. It would also be nice not to have to step over the dc when going to bed.

We're going to save now for a medieval tent like the one Lovecat loves. It's really just a prettier bell tent:)

Have just found out there is a GoOutdoors at Lakeside. How exciting. Can anyone recommend warm sleeping bags for adults and kids and comfy sturdy chairs. We threw three of ours away at last camp. Thanks Grin

After much research last year we got these:

www.gelert.com/products/castleton_xl_executive_chair

They are really supportive to your back (we are ancient and crumbly and our backs are going so we need the support) and incredibly comfortable. Also wide enough for the large of arse and very well made/sturdy. The only thing they're missing is a footrest Wink

I hate being cold at night so I've got the Vango Sonno Comfort - it's 3-4 season and soooo snuggly and soft and cosy :) Doesn't fold down small though, it's a bit of a monster.

If you're near Lakeside, Raven, there's a brilliant camping shop a wee bit further on at Canvey Island which I could spend ££££ hours wandering around in. We got our chairs from there at quite a discount.

Lovecat, can I ask how tall you and your DP are? I am in need of a back-friendly chair but at 6' often find the lumbar support bit is too low!

Sadly nowhere near Canvey even Lakeaide is a schlep

I'm 5'5 and DH is 5'11 - he says it's fine on him. I went to the shop and sat in it before buying.
