My name is Hillbilly and I'm a camping junkie (or camping nerd as I was recently called!). I spend so much time on this topic here on MN it's almost embarrassing. Nuff said :-)

Ooh TheRealMBJ, I think we are probably going to sell it (it is DH's actually so I would need to run it past him, but I think he is quite keen to sell). I need to gather it all together and work out what we actually have etc, but we only used it a couple of times so it should be in quite good nick. I think we would be going for collection only though as there is a quite a lot of it - are you in the South East?

LostInWales Grin - glad to hear I am not the only not-so-elegant-and-wafty camper around.

Oh MM, you do actually make it sound quite interesting. Also a place to store pictures of gadgets I have not yet bought but want - I feel myself being drawn in....

Another fat miner checking in Grin

While we're spending other people's money... Recommendations for a new camp bed please? Hip's getting worse and I need to sleep... Floor level probably not brilliant but the double height air bed is too uncomfortable now. Gah.

Loving this thread, and silently checking off all the things listed that I've managed to buy over the last 6 months. Oh god i hope the kids like camping as much as we do or DH will divorce me for the credit card bill. But what, pray tell is a Dewaard???

Is is wrong that all references to a Dutch oven makes me snigger childishly?

Thanks to MN camping threads I have Aldi SIMs, a windbreak and a collapsible colander. I am saving my pocket money for an Iceytek.

Hettie, that chair has 4 legs and so is not hardcore enough for Slubber :o

MN is responsible for me having

Bell tent
Bunting
Iceytek
Collapsible chopping board/fruit bowl/colander hingmie
Omnia oven
Aldi windbreaks & SIMs
Trangia that I'm too scared to use
Fleece blankets
Gininatin
and loads more I'm scared to think about...

I would love to be all wafty around a campsite but haven't yet achieved it. Been wrapped up like a weeble in the UK and hot/sweaty in France. Going to Wales in August and may pack 1 vintage tea dress to wear over thermal leggings & wellies/underneath fleece layers and stormproof jacket....:o

I notice it comes in either sea salt or sodium, is that not the same?

I am so suggestible, for lunch I am having roasted vegetables and halloumi Smile I didn't even realise what I had done until I sat down here. Not the same as over the barbecue but it will do for today.

I hear Wales in August is damp fabulous Lovecat, what a good idea Wink.

I hadn't even realised how much money MN has made me spend in the last 12 months!

Hmm, well I went on Pinterest and tried to look for bell tents but couldn't seem to find any way of searching. So I tried to sign up, but am apparently forbidden. May be it is because I am at work, or because I am incompetent, but I am not very impressed so far.Hmm

Those Buffs are drawing me in - I cannot buy any more camping related stuff - aargh!

Sorry that ^^ was for Slubber not your unhappiness with pinterest Grin

I think it's your work internet, it knows how you will be sucked in and become less and less productive until all you can do is spout american cliches and obsess about crock pot cooking.

Pinterest is a bad bad time vampire. I would stay well clear. Danger danger.

Have just signed up on my smartphone. Shock at all the (tiny, for me)photos of bell tents. I am still not sure I quite see the point of it Blush but I think I may take your advice Slubber and stay well clear. I have enough (mainly camping-related) obsessions without adding crock pot cooking, Lost (whatever a crock pot is).

Report
LostInWales · 02/07/2013 13:29

I think it's what American's call a slow cooker. If pinterest is to be believed they are fairly obsessed with things to cook in it.

Report
DuchessOfAvon · 02/07/2013 13:34

It IS just me being pathetic about Dutch ovens then.

That is one-hard-as-nails buff.

I've actually toyed with the idea of taking my slow cooker camping. Would be nice to bung all of your meat / veg / stock into it in the morning, and to have a lovely warming stew by the evening....

Sadly, I don't have space for an extra sachet of salt in my car.

Alas, when youngest DD is old enough to not need travel cot and pushchair, it'll open up a whole new world of camping gadgets Grin

At the risk of adding another item to the list of "things MN made me buy", what about this shiraz? www.nottheusual.co.uk/wacky-practicals-collapsible-cooking-pot/?gclid=COr1tLbskLgCFe7JtAodmUsAGw

Not exactly a slow cooker, but a big pot for cooking which collapses (admittedly not to the size of a salt sachet).

Lovecat · 02/07/2013 13:55

Was it Slubber who made a haybox (ie non-electrical slowcooker) out of a collapsible crate, some polystyrene and a fleece blanket? I've been meaning to test that one out for a while but would like to know I will actually be eating that evening and not looking mournfully at raw stew am not organised enough.
