My name is Hillbilly and I'm a camping junkie (or camping nerd as I was recently called!). I spend so much time on this topic here on MN it's almost embarrassing. Nuff said :-)

Me too! We're off in our bell tent (with chandelier) this weekend to Sumners Ponds, then Forgewood later in July and WoWo in August.

Slubberdelatrinae · 01/07/2013 18:00

no non nononono

things that warm things up a bit are

merino baselayers
4 season sleeping bag
hot water bottle
mulled wine
angry sleeping bag sex
star jumps

battery tealights would only help if you turned on like 40 of them and shoved them down inside your fleece

MinimalistMommi · 01/07/2013 18:01

We off in our bell in August but can't decide where to go yet.....I like to go places I don't have to book (yeah, don't all laugh at once) so we can go when it's good weather.

YellowDinosaur · 01/07/2013 18:09

I was eyeing up that second lamp a couple of Weeks ago slubber. Only you can't hang it up which is one of my lamp must haves

Keztrel · 01/07/2013 18:20

Slubber you are my camping hero if you can manage sex in a sleeping bag Shock

By warm things up I just meant I want a warmer coloured light (as in yellow/orange rather than blue), not the temperature [shallow]

But yes to mulled wine! Great idea!

hillbilly · 01/07/2013 18:23

Ooh zgaze - I'm a total camping cliche and slubber I totally agree that this thread has cost me ££££££s!!!

Yep this thread is singularly responsible for much credit card smouldering...

shirazplease · 01/07/2013 19:13

Ok agreed battery tealights not that bright although when there's 12 of them it's not too bad. We use the chandelier for light whilst kids are asleep so as to not disturb. For reading we have very utilitarian head torches. Smile

hillyhilly · 01/07/2013 19:17

I made a very pretty lamp using an old sweet jar (plastic) and a string of battery fairy lights from Ikea - not a chandelier but it was pretty and it gave out loads of light

NonnyMuss · 01/07/2013 19:30

Lines up with the other camping addicts Grin

I blame myself for getting into camping but I blame Mumsnet for the sheer scale of the lunacy hobby.

Battery tea lights sound pretty pointless to me, but we mainly camp in Scotland and the Lakes so we need the citronella in the tea lights and the bell tent never actually dries out enough to combust.

Blu · 01/07/2013 19:47

My Icey Tek is the offspring of my relationship with the MN camping board. I nearly succumbed to a Cobb, but there is less talk of those these days. Now I would like a tripod and a Dutch oven. And pie iron.

TheRealMBJ · 01/07/2013 20:01

I am MBJ, and I have been totally bitten by the camping bug. I love it. Just back from a weekend in London and planning te next trip already.

We want to go somewhere around Cambridge for a weekend soon. Any recommendations?

TheRealMBJ · 01/07/2013 20:05

Angry sleeping bag sex, Slubber? Sounds... hmm... Interesting. Grin (and sweaty)

YellowDinosaur · 01/07/2013 20:46

I give you the Iceytek, the tripod, the Cobb, the teenytiny new camping chair and the Sims that I credit MN as being responsible for. Camping is more fun as a result though!

Blu get a Cobb they are fab!

YellowDinosaur · 01/07/2013 20:48

I do want a Dutch oven though....

Head torches are very practical but imhe result in being dive bombed in the face by all manner of flying insects. Hence the need for a hanging lantern which can bear the brunt instead.

JRY44 · 01/07/2013 20:52

shiraz Greenacres is a wonderful place, that early morning dash to the toilet is even a pleasure with the views

LostInWales · 01/07/2013 21:01

I have a dutch oven. It is a thing of great beauty and in my fantasy world I am going to waft out of my bell tent and eat bread I baked in it over a campfire. I need a tripod first though. And new SIMs. And more lights. And some bunting.

LostInWales · 01/07/2013 21:02

Oooh, ooh and a moonchair, not one of those poncey tiny things someone was banging on about recently Wink.

YellowDinosaur · 01/07/2013 21:19
Slubberdelatrinae · 01/07/2013 21:28

Moonchair => extreme slouching => back ache and pathological idleness

My list of shite extremely useful stuff that I have bought on the back of a mn recommendation
Cobb
Delta pegs
Tripod/fire pit
Aldi picnic rugs
Outwell popups
The Forge Steel
Buff
Gininatins
Halloumi

er
What else, there are boxes and boxes of paraphernalia out in the garage

Still to get
Teeny tiny 2/4 legged chairs
A DEWAARD (someone tell me I need to buy one and I'll just do it)
EHU

LostInWales · 01/07/2013 21:29
YellowDinosaur · 01/07/2013 21:31

Oh yes I forgot the delta pegs. MN definitely responsible for them. And the Kelly kettle...

Slubberdelatrinae · 01/07/2013 21:31

MBJ the angry occurs during. It's being restricted see to a rectangle, makes you grrrrrrrrrr move your arsing elbow

Slubberdelatrinae · 01/07/2013 21:32

Oh yes
Firebucket

shirazplease · 01/07/2013 21:32

Am also a halloumi addict now. Cut into 16 strips and wrap in streaky bacon. Skewer. BBQ.
