So new converts to the cause can find us, how about a register of fanatics, sorry enthusiasts?

How about along the lines of;

'Hello my name is LCC and we have an Outwell Colorado 8' Grin

Will report back once we've been. We are also going to st Valery sur Somme for a week at Whit - but in a Keycamp tent - not sure if that counts a proper camping though!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 16/05/2006 21:35

Camping newbie here. Going away for the Bank Holiday at a camping site in Surrey and then again in August in Kent (then with 4000 other kids, a big Woodcraft Folk gathering).

UCM · 16/05/2006 21:47

UCM with big mother Sunncamp frame tent, going in July and promise pictures this time. I have a trailer tent to sell plus a 5 berth tent shaped one, the trailer tent isnt mine but I have seen it and its worth the 260.00 she is asking.

My little tent (only 5 berth is worth 50 quid of anyones money, it's superb and we started camping with it. So it's solid!!!

frangipan · 16/05/2006 22:04

Frangipan here,

LucyCampCat · 16/05/2006 22:07

crunchie · 17/05/2006 09:31

My name is Crunchie and I am a camper :o We have a Vango Colarado 1200 I think (anyway it a f'ing huge thing, sleeps 12 in 3 beds, s just about copes with teh 4 of us!!)

I don't do sleeping bags, use duvets and pillows :) And this year am about to get electricity, a fridge/coolbox and lights. I might take a kettle and a dvd player too!!

We are going to the Ardeche (ish) region on 22nd July this year, and are borrowing a roofbox as we want to take bikes too. I cannot wait.

sparkler1 · 17/05/2006 09:35

Hello - another camper here! Just booked four nights away next week. Can't wait - just hoping weather improves before then.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 17/05/2006 09:37

Crunchie - have you got space in the car for all that gear? Sounds comfy, though. How do you get your electricity?

crunchie · 17/05/2006 10:00

Christina, when we don't take bikes we manage fine with everything in the boot. We pack arefully, towels line the boot, then duvets, then bags, lastly tent. The weight of the bags flatten the duvets to almost nothing :) The kids have there pillows with them and our pillows go on top :)

We have a Xsara Picasso, so it isn't as big as a lot of cars.

This year we are going to take a roof baox though as we want to take their bikes and our bikes and a few extras like the electric cables. Others know more about this than me, but I am buying a EHU (Electric Hook Up) which you plug in at the campsite (provided you are on a pitch with electric) then the cabls run to your tent and have 4 normal sockets you can use for anything you want :)

CristinaTheAstonishing · 17/05/2006 10:17

You sound v organised, Crunchie. I seem to fill up the boot with just a change of clothes and other "essentials" when we go away for a couple of hours...

Kathy1972 · 17/05/2006 10:28

Hello, my name's Kathy and I'm a camper....

Can't remember what our tent's called but it's one of those great big things the size of a bungalow. We got it last year in preparation for dd being born and christened it in the Lake District when she was 6 weeks old (I am inordinately proud of this Wink because everyone said we were mad but it worked out really well.)
We like sites with no facilities at all and somewhere to swim/launch a dinghy.

serenity · 17/05/2006 10:34

I'll just put my hand up and say that we take a duvet too. Can't sleep in sleeping bags, I get too claustraphobic as I sleep in weird positions Grin

sparkler1 · 17/05/2006 10:53

We are going to buy some camp beds for our tent ready for next week.
We went a couple of weeks ago and were so uncomfortable sleeping on a cold, hard floor that we've decided we are going in style next time.
Shall buy an inflatable for dds to sleep on and dh and I are going to have beds - we will push them together to make it a little romantic! PMSL! Grin

crunchie · 17/05/2006 11:29

sparkler, get yourself a double air bed, rather than push two together, they are quite comfy, specially with a duvet :)

tessasmum · 17/05/2006 12:11

I'm Tessasmum and we have a Khyam XXL. Bought it on ebay 2 years ago and it apparantly belonged to Frank Bruno!
Nearly qualified for MN 'homebirth in a tent' award as last time we went I was 8 1/2mths pg. Looking forward to taking DS (now 6mths) on his first trip next week. DD (3) is an old hand having camped from 5mths.
Could fit everything into a Picasso last year, may need a trailer this year!

leogaela · 17/05/2006 12:39

Am I allowed to join? I couldn't persuade dh to sleep in a tent so we have just bought a caravan. I know, I know, its not the same but.....
We live in switzerland this year will be doing long weekends all over switzerland, a big holiday in Italy and maybe a bit of france as well.

bresha · 17/05/2006 17:09

wow, its so great to know im not the only one who takes there young kids camping, people always look at me like im mad and say that babies shouldnt be out camping but we all love it and have such a good time
iv got no ider wht my tent is callled

glassofwine · 17/05/2006 21:40

Hello Campers, I'm yet another camper and I bought my tent new on ebay on a whim - It doesn't have a brand name and after we'd bought we wondered if perhaps we'd been sold a dud. In fact, its great one of those three bedroom ones that looks like the teletubbies home. We first camped when the youngest was 9 months - he's now 3 1/2 so I'm hoping that this 'season' it'll be easier. Am hoping to go at half term, but am going to wait and see what the weather's doing.

Freddiecat · 17/05/2006 23:18

Hello I'm Freddiecat and we've got a Wynnester Satellite 12.

lillylove · 19/08/2006 00:35

hi frangipan, i havebeen looking everywhere for a quechua 6 berth since i saw one on a cardiff campsite, it looks perfect for us, can you tell me where you got it from ?

groggymama · 19/08/2006 19:16

I have a Sunncamp Vario 4 (which leaks a bit) and my favourite film quote is "kiss Prudence"!

FeelingOld · 19/08/2006 22:40

We are newbies, borrowed a tent, enjoyed it so much now proud owners of an Outlook Indiana 8

musicbugs · 19/08/2006 23:01

Hello, my name is musicbugs. We have a embarrasingly large 12 man green dome-tent, no idea what it's called. We also have a gazebo which looks like the Scene Of Crime Tent that the police errect over murder victims (we cook in there, so crimes are of a culinary nature)

love love love camping!

Hello I'm Helsy and we are weekend campers - we have a Eurohike Shannon, 2 beds, want a taller one without mildew, though (preferably by Friday).
Anyone got any advice about the best sleeping arrangements for a two yr old? She's still in a cot at home and putting her on an airbed does NOT work - anyone take ordinary travel cots with them?
