So new converts to the cause can find us, how about a register of fanatics, sorry enthusiasts?

How about along the lines of;

'Hello my name is LCC and we have an Outwell Colorado 8' Grin

Bet you wet your knickers when you saw the camping section SS!

All I need now is a "Drunk and Disorderly" section and that's me sorted.

It's great to have this forum just for camping.

We started camping with our daughter 2 years ago when she was 20 months. We got what we thought was a family-size tent (it was a gift) but after our first trip, it became obvious it was too small. We walked around the campsite suffering major tent envy [grin.

We still have that tent for now and will make do this year as we only have one weekend trip booked.

I decided that whilst we have very young children, I'm a fair-weather/long-weekend camper :)

Next month we'll be taking a baby camping for the first time! Shock So, I'll be on here for lots of tips and advice.

VioletElizabeth · 16/05/2006 08:08

Wow - there are loads of Mumsnet campers! My name's VioletElizabeth and I'm not sure what tent we have although Vango sounds familiar. It has one room divided by a curtain - me and DH on one side and DS on other - and a large porch area. We went to the New Forest last year and it was fabulous. We also went to Tal y Bont (north of Barmouth) to a site I used to go to when I was little - what a nostalgia trip that was! There's nothing like taking your child to all the haunts you remember from your own childhood; and DS had his first donkey ride on Barmouth beach.

Favourite thing about camping last year - DS didn't mention television once while we were away!

sighkotika · 16/05/2006 08:42

hi im sighkotika and i have a eurohike 3 man dome tent lol. perviously used only for festivals, and i doubt will be used again by me with a baby on the way, i have a feeling we will be needing to upgrade :D

my parents used to take me and my brother and sister camping from a very young age, and yes, we also had a 70's frame tent. i remember it being green with a pink roof, but im sure it used to be red, and was faded from over use lol. after that died a death, and after many other tents, my dad decided to upgrade to a swift kontiki campervan, which was huge, but he seemed to love it :D

hovely · 16/05/2006 08:46

hello hello
anybody fancy a twiglet or some crisps? and there's some cold beers in the coolbox.
we have a Robens twin star
this year we are going to 2 festivals, Eurocamp (I know that doesn't count)and hopefully loads of spontaneous weekends not too far from home.

whiffy · 16/05/2006 09:07

My name is (sq)whiffy and I'm a tentaholic. I have a friend and she's a tentaholic too.

We're heading to Blackberry Wood in Brighton soon - have any MNers been there? Need advice on whether 2 mums with 2 and a half tiny tots (one still cooking) will be able to carry tents easily from the carpark to the sites in the forest?

gigwig · 16/05/2006 09:16

my name is gigwig. we have a sunncamp dome tent -don't remember the name but has two bedrooms on each side of a central bit. DS - aged 3 - loves camping.

sorry for the 3 posts, using old pc at work!

snorkle · 16/05/2006 12:07

snorkle here.

We camp once or twice a year in our 2 year old family dome. First time we put it up was very windy and the flap that covers the ventilation hole in the roof came unhooked at 2 corners, so whenever it rained for the next 10 days everything in the middle got wet. Ever since we've called it the pantheon and I can't remember its proper name/make.

Debbiethemum · 16/05/2006 13:56

Hello my name is Debbie and I have an Aztec Cantera 12 tent. We usually only go camping once or twice a year. This year we are staying at Tom's Field in Dorset - anyone been there ?

fennel · 16/05/2006 16:13

my name is fennel and we have a Vango Diablo 400 for us and 3 dds. i used to love camping before children and we had a purple VW campervan and went away loads. now i am much more ambivalent about it but hoping to regain enthusiasm as the dds get a bit bigger and less squawky and wriggly.

ellenrose · 16/05/2006 16:25

Debbiethemum - just saw the link to Tomsfield on the Observer list - never been there but keen to know if it is any good so let us know Smile

Knew having our own topic would be useful Smile

pipsqueak · 16/05/2006 17:49

where do you camp in North devon Zephyrcat? I was brought up there and lived there til i went to uni but parents no longer live there so haven't been back in a while but still think of it as home...would love to camp but have not explored the sites that are availble. any tips gratefully received ..loved Lee Bay too as a child...

littleshebear · 16/05/2006 18:26

We have a Vango Redwood, which no-one else has, which is 8 berth. We have always been camping, from before having children, but I got a bit sick of it in the last couple of years due to a combination of a difficult ds2 and toddler! Just seemed like too much hard work. Have just been to the Peaks at May Bank holiday and really enjoyed it again, due to everyone having grown up a bit, I think! Off to the Loire Valley in the summer - hoping for some sun - really looking forward to it now.

LucyCampCat · 16/05/2006 18:34

Which site in The Loire are you going to lsbear? we're still trying to find the perfect one for next year!

OP posts:
littleshebear · 16/05/2006 19:45

We're going to a site called La Touche near Tours - quite uncommercialised, I think. Have been to the Loire before but not this site. Was it you who said you were thinking about going there on another thread? I found it in ukcampsite, another site I'm mildly addicted to.

LucyCampCat · 16/05/2006 20:51

Yes it was me who fancied going there! you promise to let us know what it's like? Grin

manitz · 16/05/2006 20:55

hi i'm manitz and i'm almost a camper. used to camp a lot pre dh and pre kids but mostly abroad (greece) and festivals. I had a cheap dome tent and my mum and dad had one of those ones with curtains. I'm thinking it was brown and orange???

anyway will be purchasing later this summer and might drag dh and dds (3 and 1) down to isle of wight when we get some time off work. Dh is taking some persuading...

debbiethemum we went to Tom's field when I was young. Can't remember much and it may have changed in the last 25 years! Wink Do remember the starlings eating lots of blackberries and making a mess of the tent though. Grin
