So new converts to the cause can find us, how about a register of fanatics, sorry enthusiasts?

How about along the lines of;

'Hello my name is LCC and we have an Outwell Colorado 8' Grin

Hello I'm NeverSayNever a camping virgin!!! dont know what tent we have and are booked for Newquay in August and cant wait.

beckybrastraps · 15/05/2006 14:53

My name is beckybrastraps and we have an ancient frame tent in a very fetching combination of seventies colours (orange, green, brown, some yellow too I think). It takes a while to put up but has loads of space. We camp about 5 times a year I guess, and dh and I have been camping together since we were students, gradually upgrading.

I'm slightly embarassed with our orange monstrosity, but dh is a bit of an inverted snob about these things. The fancier the tent, the more sneery he gets. And I'm afraid, after a peek at some of the camping threads on here, he now refers to family size dome tents as "Mumsnet tents" (you have to imagine that said in tones of deepest disdain). So I guess I won't be getting a new one any time soon. So if you see a seventies style horror that looks as if it should house a couple of pensioners, but in fact housing a family of four, come and have a drink!

Hello, Started camping again last year, after doing an experimental weekend the year before which lead to major nagging from DSs to go again. Now have DD as well so we've ditched the incredibly old 5 man tent, for a huge 12 man one (\link{http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3409244/Trail/C%24cip%3D36237.Sports%2Band%2Bleisure%3EC%24cip%3D36238.Camping%2Band%2Bcaravaning%3EC%24cip%3D40760.Tents%2Band%2Bsleeping%2Bbags.htm\this one} which is ideal, but embarrassingly big. We're hoping to go to N.Wales in August.

We've just gone up from a Hatchback to an Estate, just because of the camping gear. We just fit everything in our Passat last year, but we've bought more 'essential' stuff for this year.

earthtomummy · 15/05/2006 14:56

Sandyballs, have you been to your eponymously named campsite - or haveyou borrowed your name from it??!

Jessajam · 15/05/2006 15:03

Beckybrastraps! hehehe we have had a series of seventies canvas 'marquees' too! Great stuff! We have a 'new' tent now becaase the old one took up the whole car boot (and it's a big boot) and weighed SO much!! Oh, and a couple of the notatalllightweight poles were a bit warped!

sandyballs · 15/05/2006 15:18

earthtomummy - I've never camped there but have stayed in their lovely log cabins. I'm put off camping there by the fact that you have to put your tent on the shingle, not the grass. Sounds uncomfortable to me Shock

zephyrcat · 15/05/2006 15:26

Hello! We camp whenever we can in North Devon. DP used to live there so knows the area really well along with all the hidden beauty spots. We've only got a tiny little tent so need to save up and upgrade for next year - dd2 is only 6 weeks old so not much hope for this year!!

We do love it though and all the other campers you see around the sites are so friendly and it's lovely for the kids to be able to all meet up and play safely in the site.

Awwww not fair, I want to go now!!!! Grin

Patttsy · 15/05/2006 15:26

Hi my name is Patttsy and don't know the name of our tent, but have booked 2 camping holidays in UK:)

I am a camping virginBlush (the children and DH went camping last year whilst I had a shopping and pampering weekend)
[naughty emoticon]

Wisp · 15/05/2006 15:42

Hello My name is Wisp and I'm a camping addict.
We have a brand new Vango Aspen 500DLX,as it's 5 weeks until our first holiday in it, we are pretending to be on holiday and camping in the garden!!
Pre kids, DH and I went camping most weekends. So camping with 3 kids is going to be a real eye opener ! :)

LucyCampCat · 15/05/2006 15:50

becky does your tent have curtains and everything? I have very fond memories of camping in France with my parents in one very similar, my mum used to send us to check out the toilet block so we couldn't hear my dad swearing while putting it up! Grin

Fantastic space though!

beckybrastraps · 15/05/2006 15:50

jessajam - we have to take trailer to fit it in. Well, we could fit it in the car but we'd have to leve the children behind. Now there's a plan.

Actually, I love going camping w/o the children. Dh and I go on our wedding anniversary, which doen't sound very romantic but really is, and we get to take the old pre-kids tent and re-live old memories....

mykidsmum · 15/05/2006 15:54

Hello my name is mykidsmum, we have a frame tent which we bought after our Outwell harford xl was pinched last year. We will be buying a vdub campervan very shortly and are very excited!

beckybrastraps · 15/05/2006 15:55

It doesn't have curtains - I do have SOME pride! But it is quite tardis-like inside, and therefore perfect for rainy days.

And yes it is a pig to put up - takes forever. When we forst got it it was even worse as there was no numbering on any of the poles and no instructions, so dh spent the afternoon in the garden trying out various combinations. It looked rather odd.

We got some of the those spring clip things, numbered things properly and now it only takes half an afternoon!

mykidsmum · 15/05/2006 15:56

mine has curtains Grin

LucyCampCat · 15/05/2006 15:58

oh shame, ours had luverly curtains that were held back with a line of knicker elastic and the kitchen part never quite fitted to the poles so it was a bugger to peg out. You have to put it on it's 'knees' first don't you? ahhh happy camping!

Jessajam · 15/05/2006 15:58

oooo can't wait to go camping now!
Spent honeymoon in a (large, green and beige, canvas)tent in france...
Bought camper (old van) as DH does the cooking and was desperate for better set up, plus we have 2 dogs to 'pack' as well as everything else so we tende dto take a 'normal' van instead of a car anyway...seemed natural progression! We don't sleep in the camper ( the dogs do!!) we just use it as a kitchen and maybe for sitting in if it gets too cold/wet.....

beckybrastraps · 15/05/2006 15:59

Really? Mine did when we got it, but I took them down. They had ruffles too!

LucyCampCat · 15/05/2006 16:01

posh tent becky Grin you'd have been the envy of the frame tent world with ruffly curtains!

OP posts:
Jessajam · 15/05/2006 16:01

Putting it on it's knees first - ah yes! And then 1 2 3 heeeaaaave to get it actually up off its knees and scurrying round 'popping' all the joints straight!
One of our tenst was wonderfully labelled by previous owner, coloured tape and "front left" and "middle right" ...fine until we realised that they had started labellig the lefts an drights while facing in one direction, then turned round to do the others!!

beckybrastraps · 15/05/2006 16:03

I suspect it was THE tent of 1976!

Mercy · 15/05/2006 16:03

Hello, I am Mercy and dh and I used to go camping quite often pre-kids. We borrowed a tent last year and will be buying our own family size tent soon. It was a bit difficult last year as ds was only 18 months but hopefully things will be a bit easier this summer.

zephyrcat, we went camping with friends and their 5 week old dd several years ago - it was absolutely fine!

Wisp · 15/05/2006 16:08

My three are, 4,2 and 10 months. I asked the camp site to give us a pitch away from everyone else ! :)
I'm petrified they will wake everyone up at 6am !

PeachyClair · 15/05/2006 16:11

hello My name is PeachyClair, I have a Gelert Tahoma and I am an addict Grin

We got the thread! YAY!

fullmoonfiend · 15/05/2006 16:13

My name is FMF and we have a tent. But I really want a campervan.
Orlando - I always seem to have a pair of knickers flapping from me guy ropes, lol.
And I refuse to have a mooncup dangling in public!
Might make a bat flag tho...

Jessajam · 15/05/2006 16:14

We camped with ds last year when he was around 5 weeks...was fine. Would have been even easier if i had been bfing, but managed to heat milk up on camping stove etc.
