We've all blethered on pleasantly on Seashells' lovely previous thread and, with the school holidays approaching, lots of us are about to start our summer adventures( not all of which are in tents....!) This thread is for us all to check back in and generally keep in touch. So we've packed up our Icey-Teks and our Tarps and our Death Socks, gently doused the burning embers of our planning campfire and rinsed out the wine glasses.

We're ready for our Awfully Big Adventure.

Come and talk about yours here (even if you're staying put!)

Hmm, giant metal chicken, kayacking, pastis, icey tech, gin, delta pegs, moon chairs, overzealous campsite wardens, reluctant DH's, Dutch elves everywhere, French campsites and their budgie smuggling policy's (not to mention a pair of African Gray's), is that enough to be going with glitterkitty?(oh and death socks and death sandals)

Evening all, I have worked Shock two whole days in a row and next week will be working full time, they really need to sort out their 'no more work' policy, as far as I can see it's working terribly.

Hope you had a good first day back Sal.

I'm knackered from swimming last night, it was fab but it poured with rain. Notwaving I hope the weather in Bala is lovely for you Smile

YellowDinosaur · 11/08/2011 18:20

I have 2 hooded fleeces but no badgers or wolves sorry Grin

Enjoy the wine notwaving!

Sorry no chance of being able to summarise thread. Maybe someone will be along soon who did most of their posts without wine paid proper attention.

filthymindedvixen where are you off to in Northumberland? I am just down the road!

Kingsroadie · 11/08/2011 18:22

Good thinking F1! Note to self: must purchase neon yellow hooded fleece with either badger or wolf on it.

Also want moon chair. But must restrain self after spending a total fortune on bunting and fairy lights very useful camping equipment such as Cobb and tent and awning...

notwavingjustironing · 11/08/2011 18:22

Ignore me Losty did a much better job - how could I have forgotten the African Greys ?

I just bought this one. Blush It's about the size of two SIMs, folded... Nice, though, and the bonus is that DH claims he doesn't think it's comfortable, so it's all MINE! Grin

Kingsroadie · 11/08/2011 18:24

Um, F1? Perhaps F1lthy better....

Also have a feeling we might have a few Nazi wardens after reading reports on uk campsite about the place we are staying. Worried we will bring shame on ourselves with puppy and toddler and amateur pitching technique

YellowDinosaur · 11/08/2011 18:25

cross posted with about 8 of you! Glad to see some of you have been paying attention and able to provide summary Grin

lostinwales · 11/08/2011 18:25

I want a hooded fleece

notwavingjustironing · 11/08/2011 18:27

Cross post with everyone, good summary notwaving, it has bullet points very classy!

Dig own loo - This was planned in advance! there was a few of us and a farmer had given us permission to camp in a field by a river with no facilties. So we all had to bring a fair amount of water.

We had a wooden loo seat and a square wooden box to put it on. We dug a deeeeep hole and erected something very similar to this
We had handwash, loo roll and a massive sack of sawdust.
It didn't smell at all and was very comfy.
When finished with, grass' lid went on top.

F1lthym1ndedvixen · 11/08/2011 18:36

meant to add, you throw a scoop of sawdust down after every, er visit.

glitterkitty · 11/08/2011 18:37

Too tantalising- going to have to read the thread now....

Elves?

Are we in LOTR? Bagsy I be Gimli

F1lthym1ndedvixen · 11/08/2011 18:37

aand yes, you can all call me Filthy Grin
especially after all the toilet-related posts...

Kingsroadie · 11/08/2011 18:47

Lost - I am going to Blacks to purchase some gas for stove on Friday - a neon hooded fleece featuring woodland wildlife may yet find its way into my camping basket...

Sounds good filthy - have been on trips into the Amazon (when living abroad with family in my early teens), where we had hammocks strung up around a central pole and mosquito nets over the top. We woke in the morning to find jaguar prints around the entire hammock area. Scary? Much? Grin but we had a good old fashioned latrine with a hole in the ground. And in fact when out trekking in the day all you had was the jungle to hide your modesty, and a few leaves with which to err... wipe. Anyway fairly by the by but your loo reminded me of those dig your own hole days!

ReshapeWhileDamp · 11/08/2011 19:08

My moon chair has so far, only been used in the garden! Grin I did only buy it on sunday. Go Outdoors still has them on offer but now gone up to £24.99. It's just really comfy. DH said it was really UNcomfy, and I'm putting that down to the difference in long-bone length. I think it catches him behind the knees...

DS2 has just today started crawling, and all of a sudden we seem to live in an absolutely lethal house - laptop leads trailing off small tables, small plastic tat of DS1's, random rubber bands lurking beneath rugs....

notwavingjustironing · 11/08/2011 19:38

I like to tuck myself into it Smile

YellowDinosaur · 11/08/2011 19:40

Just realised we forgot the luminous gerkin GrinGrinGrin

YellowDinosaur · 11/08/2011 19:43

Oh and I saw that moonchair in go outdoors when I was there with dh yesterday. Avoided sitting in it as I know I will love it and I want to concentrate on brainwashing him into agreeing with me persuading him on the merits of the cobb and iceytek! When we have a trailer I'll get working on the moonchair! Grin

YellowDinosaur · 11/08/2011 19:44

Oh and about the loo digging... Given that one of the things dh didn't like about this camping trip was the 5 min walk to the loos I think trying to persuade him he has to dig before he can shit wouldn't go down too well! Grin. Fair play to those who can be bothered though!

MisSalLaneous · 11/08/2011 19:54

I still need an axe.

mad woman emoticon

Unless you come camping with me, in case you may have the axe after all... Fancy marshmallows in return for kindling?

Soooo, these moonchairs. If I ever get an Emperor, I want one. Well, two, as I can see dh / ds stealing mine.

Lost, thanks for the work wishes, but I take it you meant SeaShells. Grin I did work extremely hard and shouted / grunted at people, if that counts! So SeaShells, I'm joining lost - hope you had a good first day! Where are you?? Hope they're letting you out to sleep at least!

MisSalLaneous · 11/08/2011 19:56

Haha Yellow. No, can't imagine dh being too keen either. As it is he refuses to even consider porta potty kind of set-ups - behind a bush not likely! I, on the other hand, quite like the idea! Well, in the wildest of outdoors, obviously, not next to the neon orange pop-up at a festival...

overmydeadbody · 11/08/2011 19:57

I want a moonchair!

Your pre-dug loo sounds brilliant F1lthy! We had a similar thing a few times when camping with other families as a child (twas all wild camping out there) but all we had was a hole in the ground with a canvas tent around it, no wooden box and loo seat! Grin Yours sounds far more sophisticated.

overmydeadbody · 11/08/2011 20:00

Sal I have been perving over axes for a while now.

My DS and DP love having 'wild poos' as they call to them, wandering off into the winderness with a trowel and some loo roll Grin

YellowDinosaur · 11/08/2011 20:04

I am pretty sure that my dses would like wild poos too overmydeadbody but unfortunately I can't really imagine that they would be desperately good at the burying bit. The digging, yes. The finding it very funny to poo in a hole, tick. Filling it in and cleaning the trowel I'm not seeing...
