Has anyone been?
Going?
Is there a festival thread somewhere?

DH booked tickets today. I haven't been to a festival in an age, and DH has only been camping once. We are taking the 3 DC who will be 1, 3, & 9.

Any tips/reassurance?

have yet to start packing. woke up with an almighty headache at 4am and am still feeling like shit. Sad

have got new fairy lights...have not got loads of other stuff. need to pull my finger out really!

happycamper23 · 27/07/2011 10:03

Thank you for the congrats, can't tell many people in real life as it's such early days, but am enjoying spreading the news on mn Smile

Am panicking today about costumes and fairy lights! Also don't know which tent to take, our friend made us a bell tent for our wedding but might be easier to take vango tunnel tent. We also have a trolley for ds with no rain cover.....might just sit here and play with ds and his duplo instead of making any decisions!

DontCallMeBaby · 27/07/2011 10:10

I'm having doubts that perhaps I should have got DD ear defenders. Oh well.

Still having doubts about the wine, but it's gone in the freezer anyway. I was expecting it to have a silver bag inside, but it's transparent - it looks like a giant urine sample. Hmm

CountessDracula · 27/07/2011 10:13

you can buy pretty much anything you have forgotten there tbh

twinklypearls · 27/07/2011 10:55

Dp and I were saying the same yesterday CD and at the end of the day we are only 20 mins from home . Hardly the great outback.

sfxmum · 27/07/2011 11:27

dh just announced that he needs to be at work on Monday so the choice is leave late on Sunday or crack of dawn on Monday I vote for Monday, but we shall see
disappointed that usual ritual of post festival breakfast is not happening

keeping things simple, lo lights no bunting no costume
not freezing wine, I like red

now I really want to leave here early tomorrow

fivegomadindorset · 27/07/2011 11:53

That's a shame, could he not get a train up?

I can't believe that people are still phoning up looking for accommodation for this weekend.

Getting into the spirit of it tonight with a trip to the pub and then BBQ tomorrow with fellow festival goers.

fivegomadindorset · 27/07/2011 11:54

Or a train the night before?

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 27/07/2011 12:03

Had a good practice run at Chagstock (Dartmoor) last weekend with both dc - only taking dd to Camp Bestival. This means all the camping stuff is still in the car, I just need to finish the laundry and take out ds's stuff (he is off to granny's for the weekend). And re-stock the food.
I also recommend freezing a big bottle of milk and a litre of orange or apple juice along with the wine. And a loaf of bread. This kept the coolbox properly fridge-cold for the full 3 days.
As usual I took far too many clothes - I will take the minimum this time and leave most of the spares in the car in case of a real soaking.

sfxmum · 27/07/2011 12:40

no we will stick together I am not driving
thinking about it maybe best to pack up and load the car on Sunday then watch the fireworks and leave I guess it will depend on how we all feel when the time comes, otherwise everything else seems to be under control
Hmm

MarionCole · 27/07/2011 12:54

Got solar fairy lights from Home Bargain yesterday.

Most of the car is packed, only clothes really to do now.

And on an upbeat note, take a look at this!

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 27/07/2011 12:57

Wow MC that is good news! Don't forget the suncream and hats (I forgot suncream and my hat and got a red nose and cheek despite iffy weather on Dartmoor last weekend)

vbus · 27/07/2011 13:07

Haven't started packing or cooking yet Shock better get a wriggle on. The upside I have found my sleeping bag though.

Sfx - that is a bummer, watch out for traffic leaving the festival Sun night. We have decided to come back on Sunday anyway as 3nights camping & festival will be more than plenty for DS2

Didn't get ear defenders in the end. Borrowed some last time and DS1 only wore them for about half hr.

Decided aginst wine and have bought the premixed G&T and Pimms instead Grin

DontCallMeBaby · 27/07/2011 16:57

I hope you're all practising for the . :o DD and I had a go and I SWEAR I could hear my mother saying something about fairy elephants (she was such an ego-booster when I was a kid).

The wine isn't freezing, but it is very cold. The Capri Suns are nicely frozen. I also have a portioned-up ham baguette in the freeze for picnic tea tomorrow and lunch on Friday.

We're just about packed; only nothing is actually in the car yet. It's all in the hall awaiting a resurgence of the will to live.

fivegomadindorset · 27/07/2011 17:03

yay, passes have turned up and car pass.

silverfrog · 27/07/2011 17:51

I have barely started packing

I have lists - LOTS of lists, and dd2 "helped" me pack her (and dd1's) clothes and toys earlier. she has been desperate to pack all day (no idea where she gets that attitude from Grin, but I suppose at least one of us is organised!)

need to pack food (well mostof it, fridge stuff to do tomorrow morning) and all the stuff - torches, lanterns, etc etc. bound to forget something.

how much cash is everyone taking? don't want ot take too much, but equally dont want ot be stuck without...

twinklypearls · 27/07/2011 18:15

I have not packed, my house is a tip, and we are not entirely sure where all our camping stuff is.

maristella · 27/07/2011 18:23

We are packing tomorrow evening, I have 11 hours of work to do before then and only when that is done can I start on the packing! I have some wine in the fridge so help me pack Grin

Also very skint so DS and I are heading to the supermarket on the way to fill the cold bag.

Re cash, I will take £100 but only intend to spend £50. I'm hoping to have enough in the cold bag to feed us until Sunday lunchtime. My genius Dad had a great idea: muesli with orange juice. We will have that for breakfast rather than lukewarm milk I will be in and out of those festival toilets no doubt Confused

I'll also bring a box of wine, I don't mind lukewarm wine but cannot stand warm cider. I'm hoping that all I will have to buy on site is cold cider Grin food for Sunday and Monday (if we don't leave Sunday night, which we often do) and a program, oh and a few ice creams for DS.

I can't wait!

sfxmum · 27/07/2011 18:24

the only thing left to pack are our clothes dd's have been sorted since yesterday
also my daysack, can't see dd sleeping much tonight Grin

chimchar · 27/07/2011 18:28

Same here. Stuff everywhere. Have just had tea and having a sit down before round two.

My house looks like it's been burgled!

And half my back tooth just fell off. Am hoping it will be pain free... No chance of the dentist before tomorrow. What do you think?!

DontCallMeBaby · 27/07/2011 18:59

DH came home from work about an hour ago, and I proudly told him I was completely packed. I know, he said - it's in the hall. Well, yes, I was taking a little break. I'm not completely packed though - toiletry stuff and fridge stuff to go.

DD and I held hands and jumped up and down in the living room while squealing a while ago. We're quite excited. :o

Stase · 27/07/2011 19:03

Clothes laid out for tomorrow morning, everything packed apart from frozen food and drink doubling as ice blocks, which are ready to put into cool box tomorrow, marathon baking and meat marinating sessions complete.

Will be going to bed with a pad and pen next to the bed tonight in anticipation of early hours bolts of inspiration for yet more stuff to pack.

Little bit worried about going 5 days without DS2 having a nap, as he only really drops off on car journeys and at nursery. Also a bit worried about my sore hips (PGP/SPD) with all the walking/sitting on the grass that festivals involve. Might treat myself to some kind of massage session.

Hope Friday's rain is lighter than predicted!

naughtymummy · 27/07/2011 20:18

We are taking our campervan , so quite a lot already packed IYSWIM. Clothes clean another one working a 12 hour shift tommorow :(

lobsters · 27/07/2011 20:19

Right time to start packing, well once Jo Frost is over. You guys all seem really organised. I'm getting worried now, all I really have is my own body weight in chocolate, Haribo and Pombears. Need to go and buy a box of wine tomorrow morning

Stase · 27/07/2011 20:24

How thoroughly will they be checking that all booze in glass has been decanted? DH has 5 bottles of cider that will go very flat if transferred to plastic bottles, and he promises to be responsible with them once finished!
