Has anyone been?
Going?
Is there a festival thread somewhere?

DH booked tickets today. I haven't been to a festival in an age, and DH has only been camping once. We are taking the 3 DC who will be 1, 3, & 9.

Any tips/reassurance?

EEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I have finally stopped dithering re: costumes. Like heck am I going to fashion a papier-mache dragon or customise one of my long dresses.

So, ebay dress and Maid Marion wig for me; Medieval King for my son.

Officially excited! Will be a-pitching ONE WEEK TODAY!!

Stase · 21/07/2011 20:59

Is anyone else in a camper van? It says the campsites open at 12noon and the carparks open at 9am on the Wednesday, so I guess the camper van field opens at 12 with the other campsites... although it is sort of a car park too. Confuuuused!
We're leaving Bristol at 9am for a 12 noon arrival, and hoping the traffic will be ok. We last went 2 years ago, and the signs for the campers were all over the place and we went round in circles in the lanes for about half an hour. Hope it's better this time. And hope the new van field is a little flatter than where we were in 2009!
Very excited now though. Will be making large batches of various cookies and cakes to whip out after the kids have gone to bed. Wink

QueeferSutherland · 21/07/2011 22:02

Good to see you back, Marion.
You made chainmail? I knew someone who was into LARP who made his own, but it took him aaages. He'd sit at night doing it like a granny knitting.

I still haven't got DH's costume. Wondering if I can convince him to go as a princess like MrCole.

Camper vans are two fields away from us, I will have a check which one and get back to you, I think you can queue from 10 and get on site at 12.

chimchar · 22/07/2011 09:11

we're not dressing up. Blush will we be the only ones? i HATE dressing up.

kids are though.....

chimchar · 22/07/2011 09:55

oooh. i keep forgetting to ask....do we camp on the sunday night too? i'm really hoping so.

what time do we get kicked out afetr the weekend?

sfxmum · 22/07/2011 10:00

not dressing up here either, dd has a few dressing up things but I cannot get it together for myself

we camp Sunday and leave early on Monday for a breakfast by the sea before driving home or hanging around on a beach depending on the weather
but the site closes sometime around lunchtime afaik

chimchar · 22/07/2011 10:13

cool. thanks. just found it on the besti forum...campsite closes at 2pm monday, and car parks close at 4pm.

no stress packing up then?

fivegomadindorset · 22/07/2011 11:05

Camper van field is flat, Marquees are going up and portacabins in, jousting arena is up.

DontCallMeBaby · 22/07/2011 19:29

I'm doing my own take on the acts cribsheet, aided and abetted by Youtube ... this is SUCH a good festival to be taking three little girls to; there are some AMAZING female singers on, so many different styles. Not that I especially want my daughter to end up in a band, but at least she's going to see lots of women on stage who are doing anything but singing polite little backing vocals.

I'm getting a tad over-excited now (and I've finished work for the summer, woohoo!)

Stase · 22/07/2011 21:43

Thanks for the info Five! Grin
Bring it on!

halsmum · 22/07/2011 23:15

I've just been given free day passes to camp bestival this year - does anyone know whether you can pay a bit extra to camp on site?? Long shot I know!

Thanks

MotherMucca · 22/07/2011 23:47

Hi halsmum have you tried asking here?

Mods are a bit busy at the mo, but they're usually good at responding to queries.
Enjoy!

sfxmum · 23/07/2011 16:43

debating whether to get the app, I am so fond of programmes Smile

DontCallMeBaby · 23/07/2011 19:01

I have the app. I'm hoping to make it pay for itself by using the voucher for a free kids' meal from The Sea Cow! It's very cute, you can build up your own little schedule of acts you want to see.

phoebechicken · 24/07/2011 15:00

I have the app now, although I'm not convinced my phone batteries (bought a spare) will be up to it! I thought the Sea Cow meal voucher looked like a good deal too but unfortunately you have to buy 2 adult meals to qualify for 1 free kids meal :( Which we can do, but only for 1 out of 3 kids.

TastyMuffins · 24/07/2011 23:26

Getting excited, just need to finish my costume, make DS's costume, make DS's flag and find the rubber mallet!

chimchar · 25/07/2011 10:12

i'm stressing about the dressing up thing...all the people we're going with are wearing good fancy dresses. i hate dressing up, but feel like a party pooper.

will i be the only one, or can you help me with some ideas that i can pull together quickly and cheaply?

arrrggghhhhhh!

TastyMuffins · 25/07/2011 12:44

Well, my medieval noble woman's costume is an Islamic Jilbab robe with a bit of alteration. I could have just worn it as is with a low belt perhaps (tried it on and it looked quite good just like this but I like the fancy stuff).

If you have a market selling Asian stuff you can pick up a long robe for £5-£10, if you fancy it you can sew on some braid or ribbon or even stick on some sparkly tape or use double side tape to attach your trim (it's a one off so doesn't need to be made to last). Long sari underskirts are £2-£3 and could also be utilised.

I'm making Pricess Leia style ear buns out of fake hair from an Afro-Caribbean hair shop (£1.99), they also have some quite cheap fake long pony tails.

If you hate dressing up, would you feel happier just wearing a hat/headdress/wig? Capes or cloaks are always good, can be worn over your regular clothes and whipped off easily if you get bored or fed up. If you can find or whip up a black cape, with or without a hood, you could always use stick on stars to make it a bit wizzardy.

silverfrog · 25/07/2011 12:48

chimchar - we don't dress up, on the whole. (although havig said that, I can see dd2 conning us dh out of several costumes/accessories! Grin)

last year I didn't feel particularly out of place not dressed up - there was the fancy dress parade bit, which we watched part of rather than taking part in, nd yes, there were a lot of people generally dressed up a bit - but I really didn't feel like a party pooper.

I have started writing lists. have sorted out the cycle trailer. need to sort out food properly. and find various chargers/batteries etc.

chimchar · 25/07/2011 12:52

Great. Thanks. I think I'll be quite happy in my usual clothes then.

I will feel rubbish I expect on Saturday, but I'll have to cope with that!

So. Important question. Do I or don't I take wellies??!!

winefairy · 25/07/2011 13:48

chimchar- I'm not dressing up either. I don't do dressing up.

Seriously, though I doubt we'll be the only ones. I may go wild and don one of those flower hair garland things but that will be it. And even then it would have required the consumption of wine. Hmm

twinklypearls · 25/07/2011 13:52

I am not dressing up I was going to put something together for dd but I doubt I will have time.

vbus · 25/07/2011 14:39

Not dressing up either, would like to but not much chance of getting anything sorted at this late stage. Well just enjoying watching others wearing their costumes!

Deffo taking wellies! Now sorted out food. Next job sort out camping gear followed by sorting out clothes for us all

Only 3 more sleeps to go Smile

QueeferSutherland · 25/07/2011 15:29

Three more sleeps!

I'm not liking my costume any more. It's too tight & short & nylon. The battery powered lights I bought on ebay still haven't arrived.Hmm
