1200 calories a day = 28" waist Levi's 501

Hi I am starting today to eat 1200 calories a day. I'm 5'8 and currently weigh 13st. I lost 6st 2 years ago and reached 10st. Unfortunately life/work got in the way and I took my eye of the ball and regained. I did calorie counting before and it worked, so I am trying again.

I'm hoping to fit into my beloved 28 Waist Levi's 501 jeans. I treated myself to a pair, once I'd slimmed down. I want to wear them again.

I'm a shade under 11 stone, but I'm tall at 5'8/9. At my prime I was ten stone but feel that at my age if I slimmed down further my face would collapse! At lease that's my excuse. Anyway I'm a size 10 or 12 and I', happy with that. I couldn't believe I'd gotten so big. I look back at photos of 13 and a half stone me and can't believe it is me! But your initial weight loss was amazing, so you can do it again.
I found my porridge with yoghurt really filling and yummy, and anyway who wants hot porridge in the summer xx

lou967 · 18/05/2020 13:19

@TheoneandObi you must be good at maintaining though. Thanks. Yes my loss was good but I can't keep it off Confused I love eating. I get shocked when I see photos of 16st me. I can't believe I was ever that fat. I love looking at the photos of me at 10st. I look lean and healthy. I carry weight on my tummy and thighs. But when I slimmed down to 10st my tummy didn't overhang my jeans. It was a great feeling.

Any tips for maintaining?

I think this is where exercise really counts - in my experience anyway. I walk and cycle a lot. Walks of up to 6 miles are common. Bike rides of 20 plus km. And it's hilly here. I also do weights now - kettle bell squats are particularly good. I have a few at home so have managed to keep going during lockdown. I also largely continue in my slimming world vein at breakfast and lunch. I really like my porridge! And I love things like 0 fat yoghurt and cottage cheese and veg, so that's easy. Then at supper time I eat whatever the family eats, plus pudding if I want. I still drink very little though. I used to routinely have a glass or two of wine a night. i can never do that again! I think it's about making a few simple rules that you can stick to and which suit you.

lou967 · 18/05/2020 13:29

I've started walking daily. I want to start running at some point in the future.

I do have treats like a fibre one bar or a small chocolate bar occasionally.

Do you weigh regularly or use clothes to maintain?

So I started badly this morning as woke up hypo (T1 diab) so had Belvita (230)

Lunch was soup (good) and garlic bread (not so good) (500)

Looking for a light dinner and a walk later!

lou967 · 18/05/2020 13:34

@Batqueen hope you enjoy the walk.

Tempted to weigh myself to see if I've lost anything since Friday. Or I might wait until Friday to weigh again. I need a pep talk. I just want to eat a fry up and craving pizza and garlic bread. Mmm

Breakfast:
Small bowl of porridge (S-Skim milk), small handful of blueberries.

Mid-morning:
v small apple (Tesco sell bags of small apples that are not at standard size v cheaply)

Lunch:
Boiled egg with a crumpet and a tsp of butter
Some 'zingy slaw' - shredded white, red or both cabbage and carrot, dressing of a little sesame oil, lime juice, fresh ginger, chilli and salt. I can eat mounds of this. You can use any oil, but a small amount of sesame oil has lots of flavour - I probably use less than a Tbsp for 4 portions of slaw.

ooh - cottage cheese - I must get some. I don't like low fat yogurt but love cottage cheese. Cottage cheese, dark Ryvita (love those), some very thin soup or maybe Miso soup - a good lunch.

Hey guys!

I'm still doing ok with 1200, most days I'm somewhere between 1000-1200, breakfast is total 0% yogurt with fruit and a tsp of agarve nectar, Lunch salad with ham and A boiled egg and some watermelon, for dinner tonight I'm having a gammon steak with veggies And sugar free jelly.

The problem I have is that if I eat starchy carbs in the evening I just carry it with me and don't shift any weight, I've been walking the dog 2.2 miles 3 times a day when I'm not at work, so hopefully that's helping too.

YinMnBlue · 18/05/2020 13:47

Lou - wait til Friday!
And weigh yourself before you eat or drink anything but after you have had a wee.
Have a glass of water and get busy with a job or go for a walk! It's a beautiful day - if you are wfh can you do it outside?

YinMnBlue · 18/05/2020 13:50

That sounds great CamdenLurker!

Except sugar-free jelly which sounds horrible Grin

Hi all! I’m 5’7 and currently weight 11 stone 3.

Have been calorie counting and exercising since 06/04/20 and started at 11 stone 7. Not a great loss in that time but I have an underactive thyroid and REALLY struggle now to get weight off. It’s so annoying and was obviously the cause of the weight gain in the first place. In 2018 I was really slim and just so much happier as a person. Gradually started piling on weight and couldn’t understand why as my diet hadn’t changed so went to get tested. I’m so bad at remembering to take the medication for my thyroid but it really helps with my weight so am determined to get into the habit and have managed for a whole week now which is a huge deal! I’ve lost so much confidence with the weight gain.

I have bags and bags and bags of clothes in my wardrobe that don’t fit me anymore and I’m determined to get back into them.

I’m sticking to 1300 calories per day and also trying to burn at least 200 extra through exercise per day. I do HIIT one day and go a run the next but rest on Saturday and Sunday.

Weighed this morning and had gone up 3lbs from last week even though I know my calories were fine so hopefully the loss will show next week. I’m trying to track where I am in my cycle when I gain too to hopefully see correlations from month to month so I can see them coming.

Something has definitely clicked in my head and I absolutely WILL see this through and get to the weight I want to be which is 9 stone and then I’ll see how I feel then.

I keep a spreadsheet on my iPad of calories in and out per day and seeing the deficit build up over the week is so so motivating.

Today I have had:
Breakfast: coffee with Oatly milk and crumpet with dairy free spread (200kcal)

Lunch: 2 plant chef Tesco sausages with handful of breadsticks and table spoon of vegan chilli mayo (256 kcal)

Afternoon - another coffee with Oatly (50kcal)

Dinner will be homemade Asian Turkey&carrot burgers everyone else will have it in bun and with chips I will have some salad and veg with it (not sure about kcal as I need to create recipe in MFP)

I have done PE with Joe wicks this morning but failed to go for walk as kids woke up late from afternoon nap

lou967 · 18/05/2020 16:48

@lovinglavidaloca 9st at 5'7 wow you must have been super slim. I was slim at 10st and I'm 5'8.

Hey
Can I join please 😊 I have decided to lose my baby weight. I'm only 5"1 and have been lucky/naive with food until I got married and had a baby and it all went downhill.

Lockdown has made it worse, I'm still working but have had to reduce my hours so I'm at home and wanting to snack. I've downloaded MyFitnessPal again and I have put a goal of 1300 a day and I'm determined to get the exercise out when my daughter goes to bed 🤞🏻

lou967 · 18/05/2020 16:50

@YinMnBlue I went for a walk outside. I managed to do 3 miles. I'll weigh in on Friday. Feeling a bit more positive since the walk but still feel like eating food I know I shouldn't.

The funny thing is Lou that I still never felt I was the right weight. I carry most of my weight around my hips and was always just looking at them seeing flab.

lou967 · 18/05/2020 16:53

@lovinglavidaloca that's the thing. Sometimes even when we diet to a super slim weight, we still see ourselves bigger. What size were you wearing at 9st?

lou967 · 18/05/2020 16:54

@Roomarmoset good luck and welcome. Keep us posted.

I've just bought some kopperberg cider forgetting it would count as my daily calories 🙈

lovinglavidaloca · 18/05/2020 16:58

Probably a six/eight on top depending on the shop and mostly still a ten on the bottom because of my hips!

lovinglavidaloca · 18/05/2020 16:59

Easy mistake to make @Roomarmoset!

onedream · 18/05/2020 16:59

@lou967 hope you feel better today, how is your day been so far

lovinglavidaloca · 18/05/2020 17:55

I’ve just had to donate half an apple to my children because when I put it into my app it would have taken me over and meant I wouldn’t be able to have my chocolate peanuts later. Priorities!!

YinMnBlue · 18/05/2020 17:56

Lou: 3 miles is great! I am glued to my computer for work, v little excercise for 3 days a week. Up and downstairs to the fridge to look in it, wistfully, but since lunch i have restricted myself to an oatcake biscuit and a forkful of ZingySlaw.

Roomarmoset - this whole thing started for me when I realised how many calories I was consuming in alcohol, so I am drinking no-alcohol beer now, and have found one I really like (most are rank), but I don't think you will like it if you have a taste for Kopperberg as it is quite bitter.
