Do Buddists often have open days???

moondog · 26/06/2005 10:56

I'm visualising genial Buddhist monks in robes selling candy floss, applying face paints and shouting at kids who get onto the bouncy castle with their shoes on....

lunachic · 26/06/2005 10:57

ours do the live in a 'castle' (built by an industrialist in victorian era) you can volunteer for work an stay with them they do meditation courses open to public too they roam round town shopping in their robes !

flamesparrow · 26/06/2005 10:58

I wanna come and see the candyfloss buddists!!!

moondog · 26/06/2005 10:59

They were all probably originally called things like Dave and Barry and come from places like Scarborough and Nottingham.

flamesparrow · 26/06/2005 11:04

Are we gonna be told off for talking irreverantly about Buddists soon?

moondog · 26/06/2005 11:08

Probably fs.....
Some people could pick a fight out of a hole in a sock....

flamesparrow · 26/06/2005 11:10

lol

Serah, describing someone as a member of the Gestapo is pathetic. If you disagree with a point of view, says so, don't just hurl stupid insults. It diminishes the true evil of Nazism. They slaughtered 6m Jews and millions of other people too. I don't think you can compare that to someone who is pro-breastfeeding, can you?

Nightynight · 26/06/2005 12:02

moondog, every second person i worked with in the UK is called Dave, so i find your last post a bit Davist.

There was a legendary meeting once where all 6 participants were called Dave.

Rather Dr Seuss actually!

hercules · 26/06/2005 12:32

Lovely. Another stupid comparison of pro breastfeeders to the gestapo. Please explain Serah exactly what the similarity is.

misdee · 26/06/2005 12:34

and again...................

hercules · 26/06/2005 12:52

Ahh, just read the other thread.

Gobbledigook · 26/06/2005 12:52

Just bumping for you, Gooblidgook!

Gobbledigook · 26/06/2005 12:58

Much appreciated!

Tortington · 26/06/2005 16:40

yes it is second best.

whether you chose not to do it or couldn't do it. whether you were not furnished with the facts in 1963 - it doesn't matter.

does that make your child second best no, whether or not you have money to afford a good education and can afford to go to university (especially god forbid you have more than one bright child, yes. not having money is considered second best in society. to be quite honest i did a world wide survey yeterday at 5.45 and everyone apart from a small minority not worth mentioning -who had children over the age of 6 ticked the "i don't really give s shit" box.

lunachic · 26/06/2005 20:26

didnt meet any daves though...but everyone was lovely..nice day nice vibes but im kernackd and i need to get my chicken in the oven else dp will be coming home to an empty plate
only regret was he wasnt there with me not his thing and that made me sad espec after seeing some very coupley couples i know...........

serah · 26/06/2005 21:14

goddamit moondog.. you got me and my nouns. Still, it was late.

Actually, I am not referring to pro breastfeeders as gestapo by any means. I am referring to those that say breastfeeding is the only way, and try and instill fear into those that bottle feed. I am opposed to those who say it does harm, those that try to undermine it and subsequently those that do bottle feed, and frighten them with horror stories - as has been so rightly pointed out on this thread previously, people do it for all manner of reasons and attempting to make a mockery of it is poor to say the least.

Incidentally, I am at a loss to how my comments diminish the true evil of Nazism - and for the record, I would never dismiss pro-breastfeeders as I am one - I actually never mentioned pro-breastfeeders. I mentioned breastfeeding.

moondog · 26/06/2005 22:57

I'm completely lost serah.......
No idea what you're on about at all......

Lunachic,glad it was fun.
African drumming eh? When I was a student in Edinburgh, a group used to meet every Sunday in the park opposite my house to have a drumathon.
It was enjoyable-at first.....

hunkermunker · 26/06/2005 23:08

Serah, sounds very like you ought to stop digging to me. Go on, put the spade down, step out of the hole and have a cool drink. Homemade lemonade for preference, you must be boiling after all that digging

As for scaremongering - loads of times I've heard people say things like "If formula wasn't as good as breastmilk, they wouldn't sell it" and "It's just the same as breastmilk" and similar comments. I have to confess, I have sometimes put the case for breastmilk. But not for somebody who has had a badly supported breastfeeding experience. Does that make me less of a nazi? Am I excused gas chamber duty for tonight?! FFS!

serah · 26/06/2005 23:10

it was probably the chablis moondog as I was referring to your comment last night "repetition of nouns does not make for good style either...." when I referred to people twice in the same sentence.

moondog · 26/06/2005 23:11

Oh no,I got that bit (obviously wasn't as wrecked as I thought!)

It was the muddled logic and confused thinking of the next paragraph that had me floundering......

serah · 26/06/2005 23:23

I'm not digging hunkermunker. It always seems ok for anyone to have a pop at bottle feeding, and when someone has an opinion remotely supporting bottle feeding for whatever numerous reasons, it seems it can never be accepted. Of course breast feeding is natures best, and you will probably not find one bottle feeding mother who does not already know that, but does not want it ramming down her throat repeatedly, and I am sick of it being portrayed as the be all and end all. Bottle feeding always seems to be viewed as though it is some crime in itself, but I will always defend it - should be obvious for the reasons why.
