My mum was told condensed milk watered down was OK. I survived. Now where does that come?? Above McDonalds milkshake, below Gin Way below formula.

In the 60s that was NORMAL

excellent rtk. and she will also comment on what a wonderful calm placid baby you have!

happy that mine had second best, theybwould have starved otherwise. but i can saybthis calmly ,my kids being 8 and5.
But some mums will beside themselves with guilt and this is in very poor taste for them

RTKangaMummy · 25/06/2005 21:23

As I was adopted I had Condensed milk too

I was born in 60s as well

QueenOfQuotes · 25/06/2005 21:24

but still don't see what's wrong with 2nd best......

Obviously we ALL want a Gold medal, but a Silver does just as nicely

stitch · 25/06/2005 21:24

i think its hard enough bringing up kids you have given birth too. adoptive parents are way up their with the angels imo.

Crunchie I find it really fascinating what babies were fed in the 60s! I've got a tag from when I was in hospital in the 70s which has lots of tickbox options of what the baby is being fed, and one is 'sugar and water'.

dinny · 25/06/2005 21:25

anyone who bottlefed find this thread light-hearted?

happymerryberries · 25/06/2005 21:26

HMB I wanted to breast feed but as DS was in neo natal he was fed with IV fluids etc etc

It didn't happen

And I think it is other mothers and NCT and WHO

who put so much pressure on others to breast feed that they are the problem IMHO

jessicasmummy · 25/06/2005 21:27

i bottle fed from 4 days old, and go ahead - im up for a laugh - at least i was on the champers quicker!!!

stitch · 25/06/2005 21:29

i was failed breastfeeder with ds1. did manage to get some breast milk down him till about 17 weeksish, but if he hadnt had formula, he would have starved.

QueenOfQuotes · 25/06/2005 21:29

jessica - you wuss (joke) - when DS1 was 4 months old it was Christmas time - and I've got photos of me with a glass of wine in one hand, while holding him latched on with the other - my 'logic' was that the wine wouldn't go straight to the milk

stitch · 25/06/2005 21:30

Hey I've found my tag from when I was released from the hospital in the 1970s at 6 days old:

It's not completed but it says:
--------
Times of feeds:

Being fed:

  • Babymilk1 (Half cream)
  • Babymilk2 (Full cream)
  • Cow and Gate Formula

Prepare feeds:

  • Scoops of powder:
  • Teaspoons of sugar:
  • Amount of water: --------

Just shows how far infant feeding has come doesn't it? I'm surprised they don't add 'tablespoons of brandy' at the end.

jessicasmummy · 25/06/2005 21:30

hey not my fault she did nothing but scream at me for 4 days coz she wasnt getting anything!!!

dinny · 25/06/2005 21:31

I find it very upsetting, tbh

HMB - my hilarious should have had an ironic emoticon.

at thevrisk of being labeled humourless, it is one t ing to look back on failed b/f whan your kids are older, and something else to be a mother struggling now with b/f, and comming across this thread. if i were in thatbposition i wouldn't find it funny at all.
what next, a 'humourous' m/c thread?

RTKangaMummy · 25/06/2005 21:34

MP DEFFO BRILL

It is weird

WOnder what DS and DD will be saying about the stuff they are fed now

As adults they will prob just eat granules of vitamins and pills with everything nutrition controlled food

Never eat roast beef and yorkshire pudding!!!!!!!

Wot you guys reckon????

dinny · 25/06/2005 21:34

I just don't see why threads like this are started when it is obvious some people WILL find them upsetting.
