Have read a bit about HIPP but no others..

OP posts:
ilovemydog · 26/06/2008 15:53

I didn't get that there was any judgements here?

Look, even the packaging on formula says that the advice from the department of health is to breastfeed until 6 months.

This is just advice - people can accept it or ignore it.

But back to the original question: the only organic formula I have seen is HIPPs. There don't seem to be any others on ther market that are readily available.

Am happy to be wrong....

buffet · 26/06/2008 15:56

Thats the standard cop out answer from most forums... 'I dont see any judgements'.

Honey...what ever you choose to do is fine...it makes you happy...baby happy .... baby will thrive etc etc....

Megglewell, I can't answer your question about organic formula. I just want you to know good luck with your choice in the end. I am sorry if everyone here has frightened you, it is none of their business why you asked the question in the first place, you are not to feel bullied into providing 'reasons' or justifications on any thread, so please don't be put off.

4madboys · 26/06/2008 15:59

"people can accept it or ignore it"

jesus, do you really thing that people that bottlefeed are choosing to IGNORE the advice that bfeeding is 'best' i for one am not ignoring that, i know tonnes about bfeeding and how good it it, i did some training with LLL to become a bfeeding councellor but i am still now bottle feeing my fourth and i certainly am not ignoring anything.

its a case of doing whats right for each individual family and whilst i know that LOTS of women want and need support to bfeed, you still have to resect that for many people formual feeding is a perfectly ok choice, and we are not giving our babies second best by doing so. yes there are health benefits to bfeeding, but having a happy mum is most important and if that means bottle feeding then so be it.

re the op there are other organic formulas but they tend to only be available in health food shops.

buffet · 26/06/2008 16:01

Cripes 4mad...when you said Jesus I thought you meant me !!! its my name on another forum

The is far to much judging in the world full stop regarding breast milk...mine was rubbish HTH !!!!

spitty · 26/06/2008 16:01

I breastfed my cat

It is now dead

ilovemydog · 26/06/2008 16:02

Buffet,

How are my remarks a cop out? [hmmm]

I read Tik Tok's posts and didn't feel that she was making any judgement calls.

Obviously others did feel that she was, but I didn't get that from her posts.

tiktok · 26/06/2008 16:04

girly- the only person who has suggested the OP give 'reasons' are the people who thought I was being insensitive in not asking the reasons!

I am very puzzled by this.

buffet - where are the judgements about mothering and reasons...truly, where are they?

tiktok · 26/06/2008 16:05

@ spitty!

buffet · 26/06/2008 16:05

Just posting what I think lady..... I think there are a few posts on here that are downright mean and the breasty birds know it...its a form of bullying.
I hope the lady who did the OP comes back.I feel sorry for her,she only wanted some advice and ends up with the worlds cackist lecture

spitty · 26/06/2008 16:05

Does no-one here care about my dead cat?!

buffet · 26/06/2008 16:08

SPITTY,you know I do...
I gave you the tens machine for the heart massage !!!!

Where is the roly eye thingy on here ????

ilovemydog · 26/06/2008 16:08

4madboys - I was pointing out what is already printed on the labels of formula as Tik Tok mentioned in passing that breast milk was organic. This is not a contraversial
point. I am sorry if I inferred that people who didn't/couldn't breastfeed were ignoring the advice. I didn't mean to suggest this.

And HIPP is available at Sainsburys and Tescos.

tiktok · 26/06/2008 16:10

buffet - you mention 'cop out'. 'Just posting what I think' is a cop out.

Where are the judgements? Who lectured the OP? What other info might have helped the OP?

I was lectured!! But you know, I am a big girl and can take it

lulumama · 26/06/2008 16:11

tiktok, i don;t know how you have the patience.

tiktok · 26/06/2008 16:11

lulu - nor do I!

spitty · 26/06/2008 16:12

ooh buffet, you didn't need to give me the tens machine you know. I'd have massaged your heart for free....you know I can't resist a good ol' fondle of your mammaries

lulumama · 26/06/2008 16:12

the offer of tea and cake if you are ever in this neck of the woods still stands.. or gin & chocolate

pooka · 26/06/2008 16:16

Excuse me, but everyone is projecting all sorts onto the OP. We don't knwo why she was asking, whether was for her or a friend, or whatever.

She asked for a recommendation. Early on was told all much of a muchness, but that HIpp readily available.

I don't think that any of the posters who suggested breastmilk asked for reasons or were "militant" or "breasty" or "bullying".

weejie · 26/06/2008 16:19

ok, your post ended:

"Of course, the best organic formula comes from your breasts"

then there was a joke, then the next poster said:

"I'm pretty sure that the difference (if we were able to measure it - which we're not) between the 'best' and the 'worst' formulas is negligable compared with the difference between the best formula and breastmilk!"

my post wasn't attacking you in particularly tiktok, although perhaps you read it as such and hence the ongoing debate, but honestly, look at those two messages together.

the second message wasn't really necessary, and honestly, I'm not attacking you tik, but in future, thinking about how people might be feeling, perhaps there might be a more sensitive way to phrase this, and also follow on posters might not feel the need to reinforce the message so much.

if someone says, oh I can't be arsed bfing, or heres why I can't, and you see its wrong, then I can see you might want to challenge this, but all I'm saying is, hold back, be a little more sensitive in the discussion, think about how people might interpret your posts...

Miyazaki · 26/06/2008 16:21

weejie and countess I CONCUR

2point4kids · 26/06/2008 16:22

Good advice re breast feeding in every answer but weejies... although as she points out, the op hasnt asked anything about breast feeding, she asked about organic formula.

I too have noticed that whenever anyone asks any question about formula or differences between brands the majority of answers ignore the question and say a variation on 'breast feeding is much easier/better' (not arguing that it isnt, i'm a big fan of it, just not the point in question!)

'Tis slightly odd I have to say.
