here's the logo

you tube clip here

sma site

way to get round the new advertising rules, which forbid them from saying "close to breastmilk" &c
anyone like to complain? I would like them, very much, to have to change their logo and slogan again. especially as they have clearly spent quite a bit of wonga on it.

I am pretty appalled by it tbh. To whom would I need to complain to and under which regulations?

NuttyMuffins · 14/04/2007 21:46

To me it looks like a mum holding a baby, nothing else.

NAB3 · 14/04/2007 21:48

It looks like it is trying to be a mother feeding her child but doesn't quite work, imo.

Trinityrhino · 14/04/2007 21:50

looks like a scary alien 'M' holding a rugby ball to me.....

but I have had a drink

hunkermunker · 14/04/2007 21:51

I think it's about as close as they think they'll get away with.

I also think formula companies are evil made flesh, but that's just me.

lissielou · 14/04/2007 21:52

why appalled? i quite like it, i think it looks like a mum cuddling her LO tbh

lulumama · 14/04/2007 21:53

hmmmmm.....does imitate a breastfeeding mother IMO

and FF both mine

definitely designed to subliminally imply it is the same as or just as good as breast milk, as does the slogan

looks like complaint to baby milk action site, and they will deal with it, judging by the video

comforting for mums who cannot breastfeed, but very easy to sway mums who are think that ff is as good as BF

formula tastes nice though..lol. someone shoot me!

Greenleeves · 14/04/2007 21:56

Of course, it's full of sugar

DaisyMOO · 14/04/2007 21:57

I'm appalled because I think they know exactly what they are doing and being very clever about it. Yes, they could argue that it's just a mother cuddling her baby or feeding it from a bottle but I have no doubt that they are trying to make it look like a mother breastfeeding. I don't think the posture is quite right for cuddling or bottlefeeding for a start - the angle of the baby's head and height is more suggestive of breastfeeding to me.

harpsichordcarrier · 14/04/2007 21:57

yes, complain (if you think it's justified) through Baby Milk Action and/or Advertising Standards Authority

bma
asa

in their defence, it is a cracking bit of subliminal advertising...

at logo

lissielou · 14/04/2007 21:59

as lulu says, i think its a comforting logo, remember for a lot of mums ff isnt their 1st choice.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 14/04/2007 21:59

hmmm its cutting it fine, isnt it?

I was just looking at some of their 'information'

check this out

I also hate they way they advertise their SMA Gold as "as a complement to breastfeeding, or when you stop breastfeeding". They then go on to suggest that SMA progress should be used from 6 months.

ArtichokeTagine · 14/04/2007 22:02

Just asked DH what he thought the "M" looked like and he said tatooed buttocks... men.

3andnomore · 14/04/2007 22:06

well...it's obvious who is SMA's number 1 interestst then...grrrrrrrrrrrrr...am I allowed to swear????

harpsichordcarrier · 14/04/2007 22:08

haha, men eh
hey QV let's have a bf v ff AND an early weaning row all in one

Bastards
Fucking bastards

Cazee · 14/04/2007 22:10

I have just complained to ASA (not an easy thing as I have had a glass of wine...) Many many mums really do think formula is as good as breastmilk, I can't tell you how many people I know who ff because they thought it didn't matter, not as a last resort. The more you read about the marketing practises of formula companies in countries where there is little or no regulation the more you HATE them.

Dinosaur · 14/04/2007 22:11

It's a gorgeous logo.

Which is the quite dreadful thing about it really.

AitchTwoOh · 14/04/2007 22:11

aren't the tits on upside-down for it to be bfing?

or is that why i was so shit at it? ARE MY BREAST ON UPSIDE DOWN???!!

zippitippitoes · 14/04/2007 22:14

it doesn't look like that to me....it lloks like someone with their knees pulled up to their chin slightly

or an "m"

3andnomore · 14/04/2007 22:15

lol,,,tis meant ot be shoulders to make the heart.not norks...lol....(tis the position of the baby, I think and what it says on utube)but I think you are atatomically correct aitch!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 14/04/2007 22:16

ROFL Aitch!

Am concerned at their advice to give vitamin drops after 6 months if still b/feeding. Or did i read that wrong?
