It's not easy to shove a boob into a child's mouth if they don't want it and are crying for something else or throwing a tantrum - think about it...they have teeth...

hunkermunker · 01/02/2006 21:01

LL, I don't breastfeed a toddler. I breastfeed a two-week-old baby and did breastfeed a 17mo until he self-weaned five months ago.

I am open-minded and know something about bfeeding because it's something I'm interested in.

wantedmyboobsback · 01/02/2006 21:02

have to admit mine didnt have teeth when i did it but jwb knows what i mean

Spidermama · 01/02/2006 21:02

I know what you mean. I'll often just offer the breast as a first port of call. But my kids tend to let me know if that's NOT what they were crying about.

RTKangaMummy · 01/02/2006 21:02

ABOUT TO START GIRLS

chenin · 01/02/2006 21:07

This programme is going to give breastfeeding a very bad name. Seeing the 10 year old at her mothers boobs, I am sorry, I thought was revolting.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 01/02/2006 21:08

Didnt hear that they were 10, maybe I misheard.

wantedmyboobsback · 01/02/2006 21:10

2 year old on 20 feeds a day!!! not even my newborn did that much!!

JoolsToo · 01/02/2006 21:11

looking at the first family - it didn't seem (to me) that the children were so much asking for the breast as she was offering it to them?

Hulababy · 01/02/2006 21:11

The older girl being fed was nearly 8. It his her 10yo sister who has asked for a breastfeed for her birthday.

20 times a day just seems so restricting. Maybe that is 20 time s in total between the two, as I guess at their age they don't always feed at the same time.

FrannyandZooey · 01/02/2006 21:12

LOL, am I the only one not watching? I decided to give it a miss. My breastfeeding relationship with ds is a wonderful thing and I didn't want to risk a load of sensationalist crap making me feel uncomfortable about it.

Have this image of the rest of you sitting with your mouths hanging open in front of the screen

harpsichordcarrier · 01/02/2006 21:14

ah come on franny it's not too bad so far
the only thing that's turned my stomach is the snowdrift of dandruff on Nigel's jacket

JoolsToo · 01/02/2006 21:14

FZ - I don't think you'd find it sensationlist crap - they've already trotted out the mn mantra - why would you give your baby milk meant for another species

Oh and Aloha, yes thanks, I do have a fair bit of experience of 8 year olds. Before starting my own family I worked as a nanny for 12 years.

Did you think I had only seen them on tv or something?

JoolsToo · 01/02/2006 21:15

are you sure its dandruff? that's very judgmental

Hulababy · 01/02/2006 21:15

So far, not bad.

But the older ones are on now...

harpsichordcarrier · 01/02/2006 21:17

Shock
Hulababy · 01/02/2006 21:18

I worry what type of comments these girls will get from their friends, having seen this? Let's face, this is not the norm - to feed an 8 year old.

starlover · 01/02/2006 21:18

have to agree with JT about the lady with twins... she seemed to be offering the wohle time. rather than them actually asking for it...

not sure about starting to feed a toddler... but hey

surprisingly feel really ok with the 8 yr old, which i had thought i would think was very odd

harpsichordcarrier · 01/02/2006 21:18

franny you still there?

I'm going to say what I've said about so many of these shows (Child of Our Time, Children of Divorce and now this one) - why, why, why would these people consent to being filmed? If people want to breastfeed older kids in the privacy of their own homes thats up to them, but why advertise it to the world?? The older children will be ridiculed at school...

mumfor1standfinaltime · 01/02/2006 21:19

Wondering what their school friends think!! I would not want my friends to see me breast feeding at 8! lol
