hunkermunker no i don't think it is for that at all. tbh i think it is lazy..if your in a cafe why not get your toddler a cup of milk? or is it just to shut the child up?

hunkermunker · 01/02/2006 20:47

WTF?! Lazy?! OMG - heard it all now PMSL!

What about what the toddler wants? I know some people on here are very into bending children to their own will at every opportunity (not saying this is you, btw), but FGS, they're children - why not let them have what they want once in a while?!).

harpsichordcarrier · 01/02/2006 20:48

"i breast fed but remem, ebr every time i stopped it seemed really odd that i ever did it " - I think that's right cod. if you don't do it you can't imagine it.
if you are doing it, it seems normal as all f...

i agree with laughinglil and from my experience by 2 they dont want to do anything babyish she is miss independant wont go in a high chair wants grown up cups compromise there is a straw helps with the spillage problem wont go in pushchair she sees friends breast feeding and bottle feeding and refers to both as baby milk

hunkermunker · 01/02/2006 20:49

HC, you're only tandem feeding because you're lazy though

Are you wishing your pelvic floor was stronger atm?!

harpsichordcarrier · 01/02/2006 20:51

actually that's true hunker
I am too darn lazy to go to the shops to get milk

but what is the difference in having water in a cup and milk in a cup if a toddler wants 'mothers' milk then why not express before going out..they do not necessarily need your milk however I can completly understand that it is a mothers choice in what type of milk they give their child. I do not deprive my children of anything (well sweets most of the time) but they can't have everything they want can they otherwise they would be little tearaways.
I do question though that by breastfeeding a toddler in public does it make the mother feel like their little one is still tiny and remains 100% independent on them?

Spidermama · 01/02/2006 20:53

I'm so nervous about putting myself through this show. I think I'll bite the bullet and watch it but I do fear for my blood pressure.

laughinglil · 01/02/2006 20:54

no i never said by breastfeeding a toddler that it is lazy i said breastfeeding a crying toddler in public is lazy as they do not necessarily need it.

wantedmyboobsback · 01/02/2006 20:54

one of my decisions to breastfeed was based on laziness both were winter babies and i couldnt be bothered getting up in the night to warm feeds up and the whole sterilising preparing feeds thing seemed too much hassle before i get pounced on it was only one of my influences i am well aware of the health benefits

hunkermunker · 01/02/2006 20:55

LL, you know nothing of bfeeding if you think expressing for a toddler is a viable proposition.

Why the feck would you? It's there, it's the right temp, it's in handy containers, you don't have to worry about how to look after it (taking milk out in high summer, etc).

harpsichordcarrier · 01/02/2006 20:55

I know what you mean spidey
dh just saw the trailer and said "are you SURE???? you want to watch this?"

Where do you mention crying toddlers? Or is it your reference to shutting the child up? Why would a cup of milk "shut a child up" if they were asking for a breastfeed? Are you satisfied by a slice of bread if you want a Christmas dinner?

harpsichordcarrier · 01/02/2006 20:56

oh lord save me from expressing...
and what is all this about necessity - since when is child rearing about what is necessary for survival?
I feel like I might have stepped into a parallel universe

oops sorry computer froze for a moment there!

wantedmyboobsback · 01/02/2006 20:59

perhaps she means some people use breast feeding like other parents use dummies its easy to shove a boob / dummy in childs mouth when you want a bit of peace and quiet

laughinglil · 01/02/2006 21:00

but honestly do you like people seeing you breastfeeding a toddler?

JendleWendleBells · 01/02/2006 21:00

Providing comfort via the boob can be a habit rather than an informed choice - I speak from my own experience. If he's grizzling, shove the boob in and he stops grizzling. Easy. Much harder to engage him in an activity, distract him, make him laugh by doing funny faces. Much harder to give him the skills to self-comfort, so let's get the boob to do the work.
