Racist abuse of Saka, Sancho and Rashford after penalty misses

This is why I don't support England and was dreading them winning as I don't think the fans deserve it. They don't deserve those boys.

The boys are English when they score goals but monkeys and the N word when they don't.

Rashford runs a campaign to feed starving kids and gets nothing but racial and other types of abuse week in week out. Sterling regularly vilified in the press for buying his mum a house and his wife shopping at Primark 🙄. Both rise above it and are nothing but professional in their measured comments. And they have to be or it would just get worse.

The right wing press if this country feeds the jingoism, racism and xenophobia and this place is just a cesspool now.

The lip service paid to the situation: the statements 'condeming' the racism and the pathetic kneeing (which the English fans have charmingly taken to booing). A nation that has to tell it's fans not to racially abuse its team because they lost a football game is not one to be proud of.

@Chartreuseglass

these are now quite likely the parents of young racists

How many generations from now is it going to take for racism to be a rarity in the UK?

Don't know, depends on the parents I suppose and how many have racist views as sadly they're still clearly out there Sad If parents do have shitty racist views, it depends on the child educating themselves and mixing with others outside of their bubble (I come from somewhere very white and sadly know a few people who do sometimes come out with racist shit) Hopefully people will become more educated and tolerant in the near future, as it's clearly (and rightly!) not as tolerated anymore as it used to be.

I feel like the racists are ruining football for the majority.

Those boys are English & deserve our support.

The football doesn't make people racist. You could remove the football & those arseholes would still exist.

3Lions · 13/07/2021 21:39

The people making racist comments online should be identified & punished. Much like our current government!

Siablue · 13/07/2021 21:53

I was so sad to see this too. Such lovely boys. The one positive is that their whole team are so solidly behind them. This is a contrast to in the past with the likes of John Terry.

They are such lovely lads all of them have more class in their little finger than any of the people doing them down. I have seen people giving to Fare Share in support of Marcus as it is a charity he supports and I thought that was a nice thing to do.

Prince William has spoken out against it. I did think could you not have done the same for your sister in law.

Quaggars · 13/07/2021 21:56

Prince William has spoken out against it. I did think could you not have done the same for your sister in law.

That's exactly what I thought, and posted as much upthread.
Why just now, if you were truly against racism, would you say it when it's being called out at the football and everyone's eye is on racism, but not then when she was getting abuse too?

Roussette · 13/07/2021 22:31

Yes. It took him 8 hours to call the racism sickening. Tumbleweed with his sister in law.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 13/07/2021 23:01

I just got reminded that Priti Patel's dad was a UKIP candidate. I can't believe I forgot this! I guess the government is so racist and awful that this is just one more thing! 🤔

Here's what the Indian news thinks of it all. twitter.com/Iblogtoglasgow/status/1414974002246922242?s=19

Wait til someone tells them they're trying to pin the racist abuse on them!

The Centre for Countering Digital Hate and Newsnight found, similar to the Premiership, that most of the abuse comes from abroad

You might not like this HmmmmmmInteresting and you might even think it's all a big joke, laughing emojis really?, but I suggest could take it up with those organisations

Flaxmeadow · 14/07/2021 05:59

Here's what the Indian news thinks of it all.

You've just shown a Indian news report showing footage of England fans fighting each other over entry/tickets, that the reporter says is British fans beating up Italians. This from a country with one of the worst records on women and childrens rights and which famously still has an ingrained racist caste system and you think this is a winning post?

Roussette · 14/07/2021 07:33

Can you provide a link to that?
I've looked. Can't find anything. I've been on their Twitter page. Nothing there. Except the fact that 94% of accounts targeting footballers with racism were not removed. I've been back to 12 July.

Just because India report it as such, and may have problems in their country, that doesn't take away from the behaviour of some of the fans on the night.

Why does everyone keep doing this... But Italy, But India. But any other country, we're not that bad etc etc. Let's address the problems we have. Not the caste system in India Hmm

Flaxmeadow · 14/07/2021 07:41

Roussette
It was on Newsnight last night. Should be on iplayer. It was part of a larger piece they did.

Roussette · 14/07/2021 07:49

I just find it strange that Centre for Countering Digital Hate would not put this on their twitter page. They've tweeted continually about it all.

I can't listen to the whole of Newsnight to find it. I'm just surprised that, if this is a solid fact, there is not more on it.

I have found a Reuters article on the fact a lot comes from abroad. They do say this...
'the fact that some users conceal their true location and IP address, by using proxy servers and VPNs.'
Now that I can believe.
After all, we've had trolls on MN who use VPNs and proxy servers so I imagine that is a reality.

There is no getting away from the fact we have a problem over here with this and dismissing it as 'abroad' really doesn't cut it.

Flaxmeadow · 14/07/2021 07:59

I agree

...and dismissing it as 'abroad' really doesn't cut it

I'm not dismissing it as only being from abroad.

This is what I've managed to get about what was on Newsnight, I've mentioned VPN in brackets, yes it is a big problem identifying where posts come from but they can tell if VPN is being used, though not much more than that

Newsnight looked at 105 posts, 32 were not identified (VPN?), 9 had been deleted, 59 were from abroad (I assume no VPN), 5 were from the UK (I assume no VPN)

Saw this coming as soon as the penalties were taking place.

Top global news story yesterday thanks to Tyrone Mings.

'But every player gets abuse when they miss a pen' - Of course, now imagine racist abuse on top of that!

'But the accounts were those from abroad' - ok, what about Marcus Rashford's mural... or the youth football coach arrested yesterday? We can take it back further and look at the racist abuse Ian Wright gets just for tweeting... i recall a teenager being arrested in Ireland.

Top global news story showing it how it is to the world, however uncomfortable it might be for some. Racism being seen as an 'American problem' to make some feel better will not fly anymore.

All that 'MoST tOLERanT cOUnTRY' and 'lEASt RaCisT' or 'best country in the world to be a black person' - ha! Yet this country voted in a PM who has made racist comments about people who look like our black players?

HmmmmmmInteresting · 14/07/2021 08:21

That's not what they said and you know it. They didn't say 59 were from abroad. They said without IP addresses they could only estimate their origin.

Why is it so difficult to understand that somebody abusing someone online- which is a crime by the way- would seek to conceal their whereabouts with a VPN? It's not like they're difficult to obtain.

Yes estimate that they were from abroad and estimate that 5 were from the UK.

I've already said that some conceal their whereabouts with VPN. This is the problem. If we want to bring them to book, we first have to find out where they are. It's no good just assuming where they're from. Its the internet, a world wide web

HmmmmmmInteresting · 14/07/2021 08:32

Trying to 'whitewash' the truth

OP posts:
Roussette · 14/07/2021 08:32

Exactly. Trolls do it on MN, so it's not a stretch to say that those tweeting the most vile stuff would do this to avoid traceability.

From personal experience which I don't want to go into, I know for a fact that it is easy to use a VPN to conceal yourself. It then enables you to do what you want on the internet.

Gosh Flax I bet that took some searching! Well done! Hope you have made yourself feel better now, by discounting racism in this country

By the way, I think you ought to report your own tweet and have it taken down. The less we spread this racism, the better.
