Racist abuse of Saka, Sancho and Rashford after penalty misses

This is why I don't support England and was dreading them winning as I don't think the fans deserve it. They don't deserve those boys.

The boys are English when they score goals but monkeys and the N word when they don't.

Rashford runs a campaign to feed starving kids and gets nothing but racial and other types of abuse week in week out. Sterling regularly vilified in the press for buying his mum a house and his wife shopping at Primark 🙄. Both rise above it and are nothing but professional in their measured comments. And they have to be or it would just get worse.

The right wing press if this country feeds the jingoism, racism and xenophobia and this place is just a cesspool now.

The lip service paid to the situation: the statements 'condeming' the racism and the pathetic kneeing (which the English fans have charmingly taken to booing). A nation that has to tell it's fans not to racially abuse its team because they lost a football game is not one to be proud of.

Ahhh... looks like it's true.

Guardian political correspondent Aubrey Allegretti tweeted: "I’m told that plans to have the England team to Downing Street for a reception this week have been shelved, with attention turning instead to the PM’s levelling up speech in a few days." The reports follow Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings' criticism of Home Secretary Priti Patel earlier today.

@Flaxmeadow

Football is akin to a religion in England. Hence the racism surrounding it will likely never be clamped down upon

The vast majority of racist abuse on SM aimed at English football players is not from England. The premiership carried out research on it. They found India to be the top racial abuser of English premiership players, followed by middle eastern countries

I find this very hard to believe. It's probably people using VPNs

It was intensive research and would get through VPN, it's not hard to do. Twitter etc were involved, and I believe it also involved criminal prosecutions, though obviously much harder to prosecute someone in India and the middle east. Those were the findings. The vast majority of the racist abuse aimed at premiership footballers was from abroad

Flaxmeadow
Stop it, that doesn’t fit in with the stereotypical English racist

Maggiethecat · 13/07/2021 16:46

The defacing of the Rashford mural was probably perpetrated from abroad too.

Wythenshawe in Manchester where Rashford grew up so they would have a hard time defacing it from India and the Middle East I'd say

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 13/07/2021 17:07

This horrible government have stoked up and fed the racists ever since Brexit. I really admire Tyrone Mings' stance, good on him for calling them out.

Flaxmeadow · 13/07/2021 17:08

Wythenshawe in Manchester where Rashford grew up so they would have a hard time defa

And these are English heritage people who've done this? What makes you so sure?

Why do people find the premiership investigation results so hard to believe. Premoersphip football is followed allover the world. As are the top Italian clubs (Serie A?) and Spain, Germany etc

Tubbs99 · 13/07/2021 17:08

So many posters on here are being ultra defensive. I’ve come across this before. Nobody is saying that all non-black people are racists, just that racism is a problem in this country. You may not face this problem however this doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. Talking about racist Indian SM accounts doesn’t excuse the racism in this country. It really isn’t hard to understand and what you are doing is known as minimising. HTH.

C130 · 13/07/2021 17:11

So non English people are the only people who have done this then? The mind boggles. Confused.

No, but Manchester is a multi cultural city, with peoples from many countries

Its bizarre that people seem more upset that the racism online toward premiership players wasn't mostly English, rather than being upset about the actual racism towards the players Confused

Roussette · 13/07/2021 17:20

So the Marcus Rashford mural was defaced by non English. Wow.

ginandbearit · 13/07/2021 17:25

I had to explain white privilege to someone yesterday....this was the perfect example ...any ridicule and rancour Gareth Southgate had for missing his penalties was as nothing compared to this .

No I am upset about the racism they face full stop. I just wondering why you are at pains to try and make out that most of the racism is coming from abroad. Racism is a huge problem here, in this country. Stop trying to downplay that fact.
Tubbs99 · 13/07/2021 17:33

@HmmmmmmInteresting Probably the best thing to do

White privilege is squatting on a Black Mumsnetters thread whitesplaining racism to black people. Kmt

I didn't. I posted about the investigation into social media racial abuse of premiership footballers. On a board about black people, in a topic about black premiership football players.

Flaxmeadow · 13/07/2021 18:12

No one has said that

HmmmmmmInteresting · 13/07/2021 18:16

Is it bollocks coming from abroad. Take your gaslighting elsewhere
