Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

If they are doing a NT scan then it does need to be done within a fairly specific timeframe (has to be done between 11w0d and 13w6d, I think, and according to the FMC when I talked to them yesterday better done after 12w0d). And I think even for dating you get less accurate results after a certain point. Good that you got it moved, though.

starbuck05 · 22/07/2010 10:16

Just wondering how Knitter and Chloe are this morning and if either of you has had your scans yet? - really hope all is okay.
I wondered if anybody knew much about the NCT? My midwife said if I wanted to do those classes I need to book now (I am paranoid about "jinxing" this pregnancy and not too keen to book them when I am so early!). Have heard conflicting things about them, and they are very expensive. Anyone done them? Sx

ledkr · 22/07/2010 10:45

stil got my worries re not many symptoms. Once it gets into head its hard to get it out. Still hungry less tired tiny nausea and today light headedness. I do think the thing that is worrying me most is being told in london next wed that i have had a mmc and having to come home over 110 miles by coach in a state what a nightmare eh? Am actually considering lying to get a scan next week if noone will listen to me by then. MW not even returned my call probaby thinks im insane. She said she prob couldnt get a h beat this early 11+5 but she could try next week at 12+2 and there is a chance that she will and i can take it if she cant as i cant feel any more worried. I keep reading people on mn who have had this and i know its normal for symptoms to die down now it makws no sense at all cos i have now got heartburn too but i just feel worried argggggh

angels1 · 22/07/2010 10:47

starbuck my friend who is due in a couple of weeks has done them and has really recommended them to me - she said they were far better than any NHS classes she's done. But then, I think it can be luck as to your area and if there's a good one where you are.

For some reason there seems to be a gap in my local area for classes with my due date - they have ones for due in jan and another for due in march/april but only a refresher for feb due date (where you have to have had another child already). Even if I went with the due in jan class, the days/times arn't very compatible with DH and my work, so not sure if I will. I have heard it's a good way of meeting other people due at the same time though.

RachelPross · 22/07/2010 10:49

Is anyone else suffering with horrible hormones, eberyithing feels like its the end of the world at the moment...not coping well at all!!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 22/07/2010 10:50

NCT classes vary a lot from one area to another. Mine were fab and didn't push any particular point of view, but I have heard from others in some other areas whose course teachers were very didactic about the "whale music good... drugs bad" school of thought.

The biggest advantage of them is that you get to meet and get to know other women in your area who are due at the same time as you, and go through a lot of late pregnancy and babyhood together. Once your baby is a couple of months old you are likely to be feeling desperate for some human adult contact and your NCT contacts can be absolutely invaluable then. Generally there's more of this social element to NCT classes than there is to fairly time-pressured hospital antenatal classes (if you even get offered those any more).

Now, for me, I didn't make great lasting friendships through the NCT (that's because our NCT area is a funny shape, though, and all the others were clustered together within a few streets on one end with me right over on the other, so they could all meet up at a few minutes' notice while I had to schlep over on a couple of different buses. And then DS was quite ill in his first few months so that didn't happen much) and I did through the hospital classes. But I think that's fairly unusual; most RL people I know are still in frequent contact with NCT classmates years on down the line.

angels1 · 22/07/2010 10:52

ledkr my frieds have told me that at the end of the first trimester it's normal to feel back to normal again and not to feel pregnant at all. I know it must be a worry, but I'm sure that's what it is.

I'm counting the days until I feel normal again! So far today though is a good day - haven't felt too sick yet for a change which I'm really excited about, just hoping it doesn't come back with avengence later.

I discovered a rash under my arms this morning, looked it up and found out it's common in sweaty areas in the third trimester due to weight gain, urgh, I have been putting on weight as all I can do to help this sickness is eat, so clearly I'm putting on too much weight. It also said it can be due to poor hygiene, which made me feel really rubbish, as I'm a very clean girl who washes thoroughly and often!

ledkr · 22/07/2010 11:04

thanks angels im sure it is normal. I htink it is just the London thing that is hard. I remember crying so much after the last mmc and having to walk through the clinic in front of everyone after and cant imagine strolling thru central London like it.
I am keeping busy tho which i find helps. Have to run a family day on Sunday for the families i work with (am a sw)it is from 10-6 and i am dreading it already. Really wouldnt choose to be on my feet that long at this stage of pregnancy and i feel a bit of a winger if say that. If i had a big bump they would be all over me but when you dont show they forget dont they?
Will be 130 people there and i jsut dont feel like it. Wish you could just stop work when you find out. Dont know how you are coping with the c minding. Will you get mat pay

PinkElephant73 · 22/07/2010 11:21

starbuck05 I made great friends through the NCT classes but the content of the classes themselves I dont think made a great deal of difference to me personally.

I have just had my 12 week scan today, dated as 11+6, all looks ok so far and nuchal measurement was low. Hurrah! So relieved, I had a terrible night's sleep last night dreaming that I drank a whole bottle of wine and smoked a load of fags before remembering I was pg!

angels1 · 22/07/2010 11:34

ledkr I sympathise re: worrying about crying everywhere in London. When I had a mc we had to go to a and e and wait for hours to be seen for blood tests etc and I was a complete state crying. All I kept saying was 'I just want to go home' as they kept making me stay for more tests etc waiting with all the injured/ill in a and e (on new years eve of all days), and I just wanted to curl up on my own and come to terms with the news. I even had a lovely lady I didn't know come up and sympathetically say 'whatever it is, it's not the end of the world' and when I said I'd just found out I'd had a mc she looked terrible and gave me a big hug! No, I'd never want to relive that again. But you have no reason to think it'll happen again, still, I uderstand has having a mc/mmc in the past does sort of dent the excitement in the beginning I think. I think being so hurt in the past maybe we have to seperate ourselve/prepare ourselves for possible bad news just so we can cope if it is bad. I bet it'll be great though next week, seeing the little one moving about again. I shall be thinking of you when it gets to next wednesday. At least you're staying overnight so it's not too much of a long/stressful journey.

starbuck05 · 22/07/2010 11:34

Thanks Prof and PinkElephant for the advice, yes I can imagine any adult company would be appreciated at that stage. I can't really think that far ahead, like most people on here mainly thinking about whether there will actually be a baby on my scan at all!! - there will be nothing there, I will wear a fake tummy (like Schuster's wife off Glee), and then push a baby doll round in a pram until I am old. One of my husbands regulars (he works in A&E) actually does this so I can hang around with her.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 22/07/2010 11:40

Also, besides the "adult company" thing, people with babies the same age as yours will be interested in the colour of your baby's poo, and whether those spots on his cheek could be the start of a rash, and how you are thinking of approaching weaning. There will be precious few people who are going to care about that stuff...

geekygiraffe · 22/07/2010 12:00

Hello, I've just signed up for a NCT course in December - more to meet new people, as the whole concept of giving birth seems a million years away!!!
I'm not in London, but work at home quite nearby, so would love to join the meet up. I need to go to London soonish to return my wedding dress (from Coast, luckily not a one-off boutique), as there's no way it'll fit in October!!! (Wedding planned before BFP!).

cordiality · 22/07/2010 13:01

Hello all, I have a quick question... I've got this huge craving for those picnic egg things, bit like scotch eggs but little with chopped egg inside, do you know what I mean?! Anyway, I just went and bought some, excited as I've only fancied toast for the last 3 weeks, but now I'm not sure if we're allowed to eat them? Can't think why not but they seem like maybe the sort of thing that would be banned? Any thoughts? And yes, I KNOW they're gross, no idea why I want them!

Love to all, hoping to read good news from those with worries and scans x

sweetnitanitro · 22/07/2010 13:07

Yes, they are fine to eat as long as you store them properly and don't eat them past their use by date. I would check the salt content just in case but I think you would be OK to eat quite a few.

I had a huge craving for them too when I was expecting DD, I wonder what it is about them? I was craving all sorts of rubbish food the first time like super noodles and those awful instant rice meals

cordiality · 22/07/2010 13:14

How funny sweetnita, my shopping basket today consisted of those picnic eggs, uncle ben's microwaveable Mexican rice (?!) and about 10 packs of supernoodles!

No wonder I'm tired all the time and my tummy hurts!

Love it that we're eating the same crap, makes me feel much better!

sweetnitanitro · 22/07/2010 13:36

Well DD turned out OK, just make sure you drink plenty of water and take your vitamins! I seem to be doing a bit better this time around, I've even managed some vegetables although it's closer to 5 a week than 5 a day.

moonminmama · 22/07/2010 13:39

Hello all. I just wanted to pop in to try to get used to a few names. I'm sorry to hear some people are struggling. There are so many things to worry about aren't there?

I am trying to think positive everyday. If it wasnt for the carpets in my house I think I would be absolutely fine it's a real pain!

zerominuszero · 22/07/2010 13:48

Cordiality, when it comes to eggs the main thing to watch out for is raw ones - or raw bits of ones.

ledkr · 22/07/2010 14:09

angels thanks so much for the kind words it really helped and i did laugh at the "crying all over London" comment.
Nobody really understands do they. Tell dh one minute and if i refer to it again a bit later he looks blank.Friends are kind and then forget too. It is only really us who carry it around the entire time.Just took dd to the park and was trying to enjoy it but the whole time this little nagging is at the back of your mind. I have decided to just chill now and enjoy the holidays with my dd and as for London yes at least we have a hotel and if things not good i can just get drunk. Will be positive.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 22/07/2010 15:00

I seem to have popped off again!

Hi ladies,

Have been for my 12 w scan today and theyve brought me forward almost a week. Bean measured at exactly 12w and have been given a edd of 3rd feb. Sorry that i havnt been on since my 1st post. Ive had terrible morning/all day sickness. Its been horrible. Ive lived in my pjs for the last 6w. Ive even lost 12lbs. Hopefully things will start to settle down soon.

Does the 2nd trimester start at 12 or 13 weeks? I can remember.

xx

Glad your scan went well missnatalie but your ms sounds miserable

Well, midwife advised I went to EPU. They have done swabs, bloods and an internal and booked me in for a scan mon morning. Apparantly my cervix is quite friable (is that a word??) which might have caused the bleeding but is common in pg so hope thats the case.

Hey ladies

Not good news I'm afraid. I went to the EPU this morning and my baby is dead. No words to describe how I feel.

I send you all my love and hope that you have wonderful happy pregnancies and the most gorgeous babies.

Can someone update the stats please...
