Just starting up the new thread in anti-natal groups. Will cross post with the old thread and updated the stats in a moment!!

Hiya-re meet up in London-happy to meet in central London. I too need to get home via victoria so would be happy to meet there.

Not sure I'd be able to meet u before 2bd week in aug tho-nipping home to Glasgow to tell rest of family face-to-face next week & then stupidly busy with work the week after.

I'm slightly confused as to what I'm going to get midwife wise. I looked up on my GP web site and it had quite a bit of info about when I will need to have appointments etc. It said my booking in appointment will probably be at my home (which is nice and easy )and should be arranged around 8 - 11 weeks. Thing is, it says booking in 8 - 11 weeks, midwife appointment/blood test results 16 weeks, scan 20 weeks (for abnormalities I think it said). Then it had a list of weeks that I see midwives/have bloods taken again for the rest of the pregnancy.

But there's no mention of a 12 weeks scan at all. Maybe I was just assuming I'd get one but perhaps I'll have nothing until 20 weeks. Has anyone else found this? Can they do this? I mean, how would they know if it was a mmc if they didn't take a look until 20 weeks (perhaps they just rely on hearing heartbeat???).

I'll feel really upset if I can't have a 12week scan, and I can't pay for one as DH and I have already payed for 2 private ones for panics (eg bleeding) when the NHS couldn't see us for several days and we couldn't wait. We can't afford another one!

Could potentially meet up somewhere in London -- I work from home at the moment but could manage a late afternoon thing in Victoria if it allowed me to be back in Putney before 6.

Or could do more niche SW London meet at a greater range of times .

angels not sure of your exact system where you are but it may be that the doctor is only listing the things they get invovled in - and there are other things the midwife gets involved in? I'm sure you'll have the 12week scan ans that i when they do the dating and then (for me at least) the Downs syndrome tests....

Professor I could do late afternoon in Victoria - say 4pm - is that too early for others? Also keen on the idea of a SW london meet-up....

It wouldn't astonish me at all (having lived in Kent) if they were trying to save money by not offering everyone a 12-week scan. You might not be going to have a 12-week scan unless there's something that makes you higher risk.

As far as I could tell when I looked it up on NHS website 12 weeks scan is a 'maybe' and not everyone gets it. Apparently they can screen for downs with blood test instead and so don't need to offer a 12 week scan (maybe they just 'guess' dates until then). Seems awfully unfair if I don't get offered one. Especially as I know 2 people in my area who are/have giving/given birth recently at the same hospital as me but different midwife team that got 12 week scan. I take it no one else here not been offered one?

I'll keep with the hope that I might still get one, but knitter it seems odd that they'd give the 20 week scan on the dates of things to expect and not the 12 week one.

so next thing will be shall I pay for one (inc nuchal) if I don't get offered one. 20 weeks is a long time to wait to see little one again and check all ok.

I think that there are several people not being offered one if you check back over the last few days' posts. ledkr I know is paying for a private NT scan because she doesn't get one on the NHS.

Nuchal scan is £150 in central London.

Yeah, I know there has been talk of having to pay for nuchal scans, but I assumed that those not getting nuchal scans were still getting dating scans on NHS at about 12 weeks. Anyone? ledkr?

I've caved and booked a FMC nuchal scan for 19 August. I'd rather have done it the week before, ideally, because I'll be seeing various relations the weekend of the 14th, but apparently they'll get better results if they do it that week. 9am appointment for bloods, 9.30 for scan.

So much to catch up on, I really need to update more often. For some reason I always feel a bit odd going on something called mumsnet when I am not a mum! I haven't been brave enough to go on any other threads.
angels I'd be so surprised if they didn't offer you a dating scan. I thought they had to as loads of women have no idea of their LMP date, and how would they know when to do the bloods (for downs etc) as they have to be done at a certain gestation. We seem to get offered everything here (Newcastle) - agree it seems highly unfair. I would be happy to pay for a NT scan but not if someone in the next county didn't.
On a different note, I know a lovely Arthur. He is about 90 though and smells of wee a little.

Just had a nasty moment - went to the toilets and there was blood when I wiped. Probably counts as 'spotting' but has worried me a lot as it didn't happen with DS. I'm sure I've felt movements today but blood isn't a good sign is it. I'll go to the Early Pregnancy Unit tomorrow - just wanted to let you all know as I know you'll cross your fingers for me.

I hope it all goes well knitter. I feel like ive been a proper evil woman today, ive proper shouted at my husband for no reason saying he does nothing for me but he is amazing to our kids and i feel really bad and hate myself for it now.

It must be the afternoon for it Knitter, I have just wiped after the toilet and there was a streak of blood. Thing is earlier this morning one of my childmindees ran from a distance and headbutted my tummy which he thought was hilarious It knocked the wind out of me for a second or two so was quite a knock, I am now panicking and then I get the bloody streak - not what I needed. Fingers crossed for you and fingers crossed for me.

oh no knitter what a bloody nightmare. I have been feeling worried for afew days re feeling "too normal" but have silently sent thanks for no blood as would freak me out.Has it stopped now?I kept busy today by strawberry picking with dd and dh then dd went out with her dad and me and dh went to see inception very hard going plot for my pregnant brain but has cheered me up.We are all off swimming now.
angelsyes i had my "12 week" scan at 10.5 due to decisions around nuchal scan and the timing of it.I would hve thought it unusual not to have an early scan look on your area pct website and it may give you the list of things for preg women on there. Do they know you paid for an early scan?maybe that it they think you dont need another one. I am meeting a bit of resistance from mw and hospital re going to fmc they keep asking why and then telling me its just as good here. The thing is it isnt. Fmc do a wealth of other things that my hospital dont and at 43 i can take no chances. It is also cheaper in London and if i need a cvs i believe he is the best man for the job.I was very assertive yesterday and told a mw that "i just want it there and thats it"this was the same mw who gave me no reassurance re my worries and said they would only do a scan if i was bleeding which i suppose is fair enough but as i tried to explain i am going to london wednesday and dont really want to be told its another mmc when i have 110 miles to travel back in a state.Grr.Dh and i were talking about maybe getting a dopler has anyone used one before. Judging by us lot on her we will all be getting them, what a worried lot we all are.

I used a doppler with DS. It was quite handy to reassure myself in the gap between 12 week scan and starting to feel movement around 23 weeks. With DD I felt movement a lot earlier so never really used it. You'd be lucky to pick up anything with one much before 12 weeks anyway, though.

I've had bleeding/spotting with both my successful pregnancies, although not with this one so far. Hope it is nothing to worry about for either of you.

Hello, I am new to the thread. Am due late jan/early feb. We arent sure of exact date, we are having the scan in 2 weeks time.

I have a 3 year old ds who will be 4 next month. I joined mn when i was pg with ds but for one reason or another havent been back since he turned about 1 (I am ashamed to admit)

Hello all! I'm just popping in to update my stats as I had my 12 week scan yesterday. All is well thankfully and such a relief after suffering a miscarriage in March.

Oooh, have just remembered that I meant to plug a non-alcoholic drink that I discovered just before we went on holiday to you all. "Soft Brew" -- you can get it in M&S, it comes in lemon, apple or blackcurrant flavours, and it tastes rather like a fruit beer but contains no alcohol. Hurrah!

While I'm on the subject, for winter, to sip slowly as you might have sipped a glass of spirits by the fireside (while the fire roared, the snow fell picturesquely outside and your adorable tousle-headed children played happily with a traditional board game or perhaps a hand-crafted wooden toy... yes, right...) I am very partial to some stuff called Rochester Ginger that you can get from Holland and Barrett in a big green bottle.

Just got a letter telling me my first scan is for about three weeks from now, which will be when I am 12 weeks gone. Annoyingly, I can't make it as we're on holiday then (we are not rich, don't go on holiday very much and REALLY need this one... and it's only a week in Scotland anyway). I'm going to have to ask them to change the date though I am a little scared by the "we can only change your appointment under special circumstances" warning.

I'm also a little sad that if it gets pushed back till after our holiday, rather than brought forward to before it, I've got even longer to wait before I see baby, hear their heartbeat and so on.

I suppose it's not the biggest problem I could face in pregnancy, but annoying all the same. Hope everyone else is still doing well.

Why don't you lie Zero and say that you are away with work that week and it will be detremental to your position at work if you miss it, please could you move it forward a day or two if possible? Or you have been called upon to look after your sick aunt that week as her daughter is out if the country please could you move it forward. Make sure you ask them to move it earlier so they don't automatically start checking for availibility after.

I haven't had any more bleeding since yesterday so I am feeling a little more positive today. How about you Knitter?

Just got it changed, they were actually reasonably nice about it and I didn't have to lie... but they wouldn't let me bring it forward, they insisted on bringing it back. They were acting as if it would be, literally, impossible to do it outside of a certain timeframe. I don't really understand why though. Surely the important thing is that you have one scan quite early on, say around 12 weeks, and one later, say around 20 weeks... but as long as you have a couple of scans at some point surely that's the important thing? I don't understand. But I'm still alive and baby feels like its holding on, so those are the main things.
