Just back from my MW appt! It all went well, she was lovely. She also managed to find the heartbeat which at 9+3 was a lovely surprise!

Deliaskis · 07/07/2010 14:16

GinaFB how lovely for you! Glad you feel it went well and that you have a nice MW.

Have rung my midwife today as I am not imagining it, I am bloody enormous. I also have PCOS so was wanting reassurance it had nothing to do with that. She assure me (over the telephone) that it is probably a mixture of gas, blood, fluid or....twins. My medium is wrong, my medium is wrong, my medium is wrong [All said as Chloe gently rocks backs and forth in the corner] I seriously don't think I am having twins as it doesnt run in our family at all but am bewildered at my size.

Nearly threw up on my childmindee whilst changing his nappy today

Hello! Just wondered if I could join in? This is my first pregnancy, am 32 and due on the 21st Feb (am 7+2). S xx

GinaFB · 07/07/2010 17:05

starbuck05 welcome and congratulations!! x

GinaFB · 07/07/2010 17:07

Chloe55 don't discount twins!!

Chloe55 · 07/07/2010 17:10

I know Gina, I would feel blessed with whatever I am confronted with (within reason ) but multiples scares me...a lot. I think for my first pg I would prob have been over the moon but never 'saw' myself with 3 children and it would take some getting used to. I mean no disrespect to those having/wanting twins.

tadjennyp · 07/07/2010 17:20

I have my intake appointment with the Nurse at the OB/GYN this afternoon so it will be interesting to see how this differs from a booking in appointment with the midwife back home! Will report on any differences.

Congratulations starbuck05!

Hey lovely ladies, and dad-to-be

How are you all?

Sorry to see some bad news My thoughts are with you, take care of yourselves.

Just wanted to report that I went for that doctors apointment which I had to force the receptionist into giving me, turns out she was wrong and around 6 weeks was when they wanted to see me!

They stole SEVEN yes, seven vials of blood. Argggg, I hate needles, but the nurse actually managed to get it out first try. They usually make 6 holes before listening to me when I'm telling them it has to be taken from my hand!

Apparently over here (europe) we don't get a dating scan at 12 weeks, we get a downs syndrome scan and bloods... I'm not sure I want to know!! Am I right in thinking that in the UK you only get this if high risk?

My sickness gets worse by the day and I'm so tired, but other than that I really cannot complain.

Tarlia x

GinaFB · 07/07/2010 17:31

Chloe55 twins wouls be terrifying but you'd love it!! I know I've only got one bean!

moocowmrs · 07/07/2010 17:50

Just to update and let you know that the scan today confirmed my worst fears that I am currently miscarrying. Thank you for all your kind thoughts and I wish you well x

angels1 · 07/07/2010 17:52

really sorry moocowmrs. Hope you rest safely and get lots of tlc. xx

Chloe55 · 07/07/2010 17:59

Welcome Starbuck

I'm so sorry moocowmrs

sweetnitanitro · 07/07/2010 18:12

Sorry to hear that moocowmrs, take care of yourself x

Tarlia, I think they do a blood test to see if you are high risk for downs and then they probably offer you a CVS. From what my niece has told me, these are routine in Canada! She was also a bit surprised that there was no doctor present when I had DD- funny how they do things differently around the world!

tadjennyp · 07/07/2010 18:21

So sorry moocowmrs, take care of yourself.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 07/07/2010 19:03

Really sorry, moocowmrs.

Tarlia, it depends on area. In my area of the UK everyone is offered a NT scan (and bloods now -- those were introduced about a month after I had my NT scan with DD). In some other areas you only get them on the NHS if you are considered to be high risk.

12 week dating scan is the same as the NT (Down's) scan, just they take extra measurements when doing the NT bit.

GinaFB · 07/07/2010 19:14

Moocowmrs so sorry look after yourself & good luck xxx

leelteloo · 07/07/2010 19:40

So sorry moocowmrs

varicoseveined · 07/07/2010 20:25

So sorry to hear of your sad news moocowmrs and Panda

wigglesrock · 07/07/2010 20:35

Sorry moocowmrs, thinking of you

Following earlier posts this pm re getting blood out of a stone!! It looks like I have great veins and as soon as they see a needle - they collapse, apparently my granny has the same thing. Butterfly needles on the back of my hand are the best but I was once given a great bit of advice - keep you arms, wrists as warm as possible, long sleeves, cardis etc and if you can run warm water over you wrists if they are having difficulty, there is usually a sink in the room, never let a doctor to it, most of them haven't done it since medical school!!

wigglesrock · 07/07/2010 20:37

Apologies for serious bad spelling/grammar am not re-reading posts before posting, soooooo tired

gigglet · 07/07/2010 21:18

I had a private scan today! Everything looks perfect. I'm measuring almost exactly my estimated date (although too early for an accurate one - 6w5d) and there was a heart beat.

smallblackflowers · 07/07/2010 21:19

so sorry to hear your news moocowmrs

Well I got another sneaky peek at DC2 today, went for an ultrasound on my kidneys - all is fine, and mentioned that I was pg, and the sonographer very kindly showed me my little bean - it was frantically waving its arms and kicking its legs - amazing . Really put my mind at rest as my nausea has really receded in the last few days and I was starting to think that all was not well.

I thought that I had bad veins, but compared to some of you lot they're a piece of cake to get blood out of!

ledkr · 07/07/2010 22:01

I have a dating scan next Tuesday exciting but anxious. its a bit sureal I never thought id be doing this again! so excited to see dh face. Geeky giraf I am Having private nucal on 27th where are you going. they don't do them on nhs here. chloe I am huge too. hardly anything fits me. beginning to wonder about twins as higher risk for old bird like me. this hunger is driving me mad I can only go 2hrs and it comes on with a vengeance!

tadjennyp · 08/07/2010 05:47

Is anyone else feeling more sick in the evening? I feel quite rough while cooking everyone else's dinner and feel really quite bloated a lot. Glad people's scans are going well!
