Hi all, great to be joining the threaad! Am awaiting a Feb 18th arrival and am very excited, despite suffering extreme nausea. I'm having to orgnaise my work diary so that I can have a two hour mid afternoon snooze. Only four more weeks before I shout it from the rooftops - although there won't be many left to tell by week 12.

ledkr · 05/07/2010 22:02

Panda not been on all day. feeling worried as she was spotting earlier. hope she's just resting. Join me on sending her some good vibes.

ledkr · 05/07/2010 22:10

Knittakid I haven't had extreme ms but nausea most days then one day last week I had nothing and wasn't weeing much. have a look I posted about it. anyway all still ok and sickness sometimes not there and sometimes is like today quite vile. normal to worry

brockleyD · 05/07/2010 22:33

Hi Ledkr and knitakid, just to say my symtoms have been coming and going and I still haven't had the weeing all night one yet, if anything just bad anxiety, tight chest from worrying about scan on Friday.

But on a positive note just think some people don't even realist they are pregnant till 9 weeks or more!

Good night!

ledkr · 06/07/2010 07:43

Won't it be nice to get scans and tests out of the way. I found out so early I feel like I been in limbo for 4 wks and worse still I am showing and finding it hard to dress to disguise it. my tummy hurts if I cram it in. Taking my adult son to hospital app tomorrow. haven't a clue what to wear. I hate people thinking I'm fat too! ha ha got to go on speed course today. cos I got flashed. its 4 and half hours I can't go that long w/thout eating!

Chloe55 · 06/07/2010 07:43

Well, I found out why I was having headaches - pretty sure it was caffeine withdrawal. Have gone off tea and coffee and didn't have any coke yesterday. DH mentioned it to me and si I forced a coffee down which immediately got rid of it! So I know caffeine isn't good for you but better for my sanity.

ledkr · 06/07/2010 07:53

oh yes. how interesting. I am still enjoying tea n coffees not really gone off anything. it is often hard to decide what to eat tho. Spend ages staring into fridge. I am so irritated by everything my dh does. I feel really sorry for him. anyone else experienced this. we are normally all loved up.starting to worry about long term damage to our relationship

smallblackflowers · 06/07/2010 08:04

panda hope all is ok for you today

chloe glad you've sorted the cause of your headaches - I weaned myself off caffeine when TTC and went through the same, but glad it was then and not now!

ledkr I am also feeling irrationl irritation towards DH at times, trying to keep it bottled though as know that its just hormones. I'm sure that if you explain your irritation to your DH he'll at least understand where its coming from, and not just the fact that now he's done his job he's no longer required

Not much going on for me - sickness has been up and down, not feeling bad at all at the moment and have not yet taken my sickness meds for the day, will try and hold off for as long as possible (whilst worrying about reasons that I'm not feeling too bad .

ledkr · 06/07/2010 08:38

Ha ha I do that too!

angels1 · 06/07/2010 08:46

thinking of you today panda

chloe withdrawl headaches can be bad! I once gave up eating anything with sugar added (which was tricky as I wouldn't eat it even if it had a tiny amount, I even avoided dried fruit as they were sugar dense?!) and I got the worst headache, but it did only last about a week then I felt amazing. I actually kept up that 'diet' for over a year and swore I'd never eat the evils of sugar again as I felt so good without it...sadly it didn't last...well, don't think I could as I'd have nothing to eat - I'm already vegetarian and have to follow a gluten free diet it all got a bit tricky.

ledkr keep snacks in your bag and if desperate have a toilet break and sneek off somewhere to have a quick munch. Understand the concern - 4 1/2 hrs is such a long time without food!

I start the day on my new antisickness meds. Am quite scared about these ones as, whereas the last pack said something about 'only use in pregnancy if perscribed by doc' this one says 'do NOT use in pregnancy unless perscribed by doc' and has more and worse side efffects. DH doesn't really like me taking them, but I feel like the are the only thing to keep me sane/cope, but he makes me feel like I'm failing and should be able to get through without then . fingers crossed they will help and not make me too spaced out. They taste disguisting

americanexpat · 06/07/2010 09:23

ledkr - I know what you mean. I'm not sure which is worse, my work colleagues finding out I'm pregnant or just thinking I'm turning into a fat cow. Someone commented last week on the number of crackers I've been consuming at my desk. If I wasn't already self-conscious about it, I am now.

I have turned into one of those crazy emotional pregnant ladies. I was sat at my desk this morning, feeling sad about not riding my bicycle as much and trying not to cry. Christ, I'm getting teary again just writing about it. Also very quick to anger as DH and some inanimate objects have recently discovered.

KnitterNotTwitter · 06/07/2010 10:24

Welcome Blackberry - nice to have another new person

Panda hope everything is ok

american agree about being hormonal and emotional - smallest thing can make me cry at the moment - cried at the weekend when someone mentioned their dad, who I didn't know, who died 3-4 years ago.... She was surprised that I was more upset than she was....

Apologies this isn't that interesting... But it's funny without my coffee in the morning I can't function, I'm pretty much evil to be around! One of the first indicators that I might be pregnant was my taste for it completely disappeared. I have been without coffee for weeks without the withdrawal symptoms I've had everytime I've tried to stop my caffiene addiction! Also I'm not a complete cow without it- although with the lack of sleep (how many times does a girl need to loo in the night) I am pretty dopey all the time.

GinaFB · 06/07/2010 12:54

Hello all!

Hope everything is going ok for everyone!?

angels how are the new sickness meds going?

Blackberry welcome and congratulations!

Panda I hope everything is ok, thinking of you.

Chloe you can have a little caffine according to the books so you don't have to stop completely!! I have to have a small amount or I can't function but am keeping levels very low!!

I am with everyone who is emotional/irrational at the moment. My hormones are in over drive and DP is irritating me beyond belief.... he's not doing anything wrong, I just find him irritating! Hopefully that will wear off as I'm stuck with him now!!

I had very bad nausea this morning that has lasted longer and was stronger than previously experienced. No sickness and I am hoping that I can get through the next few weeks without any! It was a bit of a shock and the ginger biscuits didn't help at all! Still I have been lucky so far!

Scan date was confirmed yesterday as the 26th July! feels like its so far off I am just hoping that it will fly by. I am seeing the midwife tomorrow for booking in!

Apologies for the huge ramble

Deliaskis · 06/07/2010 13:03

grigglepuff in answer to your question 'how many times does a girl need to go to the loo in the night?', last Friday night, 7, that's every hour, it's ridiculous. Also was sleeping on a boat so going involved wriggling out of coffin like cabin bed and pumping marine toilet instead of easy normal flush etc.! Glad to be home now!

I'm also getting a bit of nausea now, had none for so long but now have it most of the day. It's not really bad though, and goes away if I literally just nibble a biscuit for a minute.

Not being irritable but am being a bit emotional/weepy etc. Not yet in a totally inappropriate place/situ tho!

Got first MW apt tonight. H wants to come - is this really unusual? I don't really want to say 'you're not allowed', but am a bit surprised, I had assumed he would just come to the scans etc. Will the MW look at us like we're loopy if we go together?

D

Deliaskis · 06/07/2010 13:04

Forgot to mention, for the stats list, I'm from Cheshire and have no idea if the baby is going to be pink or blue.

D

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 06/07/2010 13:12

I think it's more common for the H not to go, but I've certainly seen some other people bringing them and my hospital documentation specifically says that they are welcome.

GinaFB · 06/07/2010 13:16

Deliaskis My DP came last time and I am taking him again tomorrow as they ask about family history and its easier to have him there!!

angels1 · 06/07/2010 13:35

gina so far so good on the new med, but don't want to tempt fate! The last one I was on was great for the first day or so, then did nothing. No major side effects yet other than a bit drowsy (but I'm so used to it with the other meds, and it's hard to tell what's drowsy from general pregnancy, and what's drowsiness from medicine!) and slightly spaced out feeling. Nausea so far today has been better than yesterday, but like I say, I'm not yet sure whether it's the meds or if it just happens to be a good day. Have been getting seriously hungry and needing to eat all the time like normal, but these feelings arn't accompanied with so much of the sicky feeling (unless I don't eat).

Btw - if it helps, on my leaflet it says the meds are designed to help particularly with nausea.

I'll give it a few more days and see how it settles down and let you know as everything might change...but I'm hopeful.

I can't wait to get my mw/scan appointment through. Only 7 w so guess I have another week or so to go until I hear, but I'm not actually sure if my doctor has passed on my details to them as last time I had to say which hospital I wanted to choose, as this would depend on where scans etc took place. She didn't ask me this time, so only assume she presumed the same or will refer me when I see her next week (although she asked me last week if I'd heard anything from them yet...)

Deliaskis · 06/07/2010 13:35

OK ta for responses ProfLayton & GinaFB, at least I know the MW won't point and laugh!

Feeling weird about tonight though, I had a phone consult with my GP when I did my pregnancy test (two tests, both v quick positive), but the GP didn't ask me to go in for a 'proper' test, said if I had a positive test that was fine. So, this is kind of all feeling a bit unreal and certainly unofficial, and have a bit of paranoia that the MW is going to laugh whilst saying I am clearly not pregnant... no rational reason for feeling like this, just a weird thing, actually a bit embarassed about writing it on here, thus proving that I am in fact a bit of a freak.

D

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 06/07/2010 13:48

IME they never do a "proper" test. The first time I was pregnant the GP said that they used to but that these days home tests were so accurate there was no point their doing a test as well. They've never let me get away without a phone consult, though -- have always wanted to take my blood pressure if nothing else.

GinaFB · 06/07/2010 14:01

Deliaskis I don't think the GPs ever test becasue like proffL said the home tests are so accurate these days! It confused my parents they expected the GP to confirm things I think, but as I had done 8 tests (yes ok a bit of overkill maybe) I was fairly certain!

The booking in appt is fine, its just a long chat about medical history, family history and they will take blood and unrine to do standard tests. I think they might even see if they can hear a heartbeat they did for me last time! It will make things feel lots more real and I have to say I'm keen to have mine tomorrow as I have lots of questions about my care this pregnancy & timings of scans etc.

angels I really hope its the meds helping, you must be so fed up and I am keeping my fingers crossed for you! BTW keep eating!! I have a thing for cherries at the moment! I have to eat the whole punnet once I've started!!

TallulahBelly14 · 06/07/2010 14:07

Delia, we had planned (Newdad and I) to go to all the mw appointments & scans together as well - hopefully it won't be a problem.

For those who work, are you all waiting till 12 weeks to tell them? I'm just wondering if it's worth telling my boss earlier, just so they can get cover organised as soon as possible. Or should I try and wait until it's all confirmed?

I know I'll get a pretty good reaction from my immediate manager (she loves babies and is always asking when I might be having them - in an encouraging way), but I don't think the other (male) bosses will be quite so excited for me!

(Also, a few of the other women in the office have made it clear that they hate babies and don't want anything to do with them, so I was hoping to keep it quiet for as long as possible, to hold off any awkward conversations with them too!)

What will your strategies be??

brockleyD · 06/07/2010 14:14

Hi Tallulahbelly,

I told my boss last time at 10 weeks but then had a mc, but actually glad I did as it means she understood why I was off but at the same time it meant everyone else knew about my mc becasue she had already told senior mangement because I am an art teacher and it would effect next years timetable. Either way is fine, you have to do what is right for you.

On another note, anyone else only got one sore boob?? Only my left one is sensitive, so strange!!!!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 06/07/2010 14:15

I would normally have waited until after 12 weeks (have done other times), but because I'm likely to go on leave mid-December (have this year's leave to use up, then next year's leave to use up, then start maternity leave) and am sort of between roles at work at the moment I felt it was only fair to give my manager as much notice as possible so that we can plan things out.

My SIL is pregnant at the moment with her first and is planning not to tell work until she is 25 weeks and legally has to tell them, but then she has scarily strong stomach muscles and isn't really showing yet (well, probably enough for some people to be looking at her and vaguely wondering; in contrast I always look like a whale by 25 weeks). But then she didn't tell them she was getting married either until after the event.
