crafty glad you're feeling better

Well ladies, a miracle has happened! I've had terrible skin since I got pg, I never even had this many spots as a teenager. Nothing I have tried has helped so I've just ended up using tons of concealer every day.

Since we got back from hols I haven't had a single spot - they've all completely gone and there's not a hint of any new ones forming So it seems that instead of wasting money on face washes and spot remedies I should just have rubbed loads of sunscreen in every day and not bothered with removing my makeup everynight.

I just hope they stay away

smokeybacon · 07/07/2010 09:39

Glad to see everyone having good scans, and good luck to those with them coming up.

crafy glad you are feeling better now. I've two boys and its great. IMO boys are easier than girls (although based on this mornings getting ready for school I may revise that opinion!). I wouldn't be at all disappointed to have 2 more boys.

I've got my 20 week scantomorrow and am quite nervous about it. Will there still be 2 in there? I hope that it will be done by a doctor (with my last pg the 20 week one was) as I guess a twin one is more difficult.

I have decided to book a doula as well. The interview last week went well and I really liked her. Have managed to get DH on board with it too so .

4madboys · 07/07/2010 12:21

hello ladies, well i survived my camping trip, actually it was fantastic, had a great time at the cornbury festival, boys loved it, all came home thoroughly knackered tho!

so am back from my 20wk scan, all fine, baby a good size, healthy etc and we decided at the last minute to find out the sex...........its a GIRL! omg after 4 boys i am having a girl, utterly gobsmacked and in shock tbh, feel a bit lost for words, am sure it will sink in but dont think i will really believe it until i see for myself at the birth!

balijay · 07/07/2010 12:50

Omg 4mad great news! That will take some getting used to I bet!! Am thrilled for you...

Back later to catch up properly

smokeybacon · 07/07/2010 13:00

Wow 4madboys! Brilliant news. A pink shopping trip for you now!

hmmSleep · 07/07/2010 13:35

4madboysand1madgirl, you're going to have to think of a new mn name .

Good luck tomorrow smokeybacon.

Most bunnygirl, my skin is still awful, maybe I'll have to try your new routine!

Bought my first baby stuff yesterday, just a few essentials, thought I'd start spreading the cost. They have some cute sleep bags in the sale at Vertbaudet, think I'm going to get this one. If you spend over £30 and use Order Code 7092 you get another £10 off.

Great news 4madboys! for you!

Booboobedoo · 07/07/2010 15:11

Had my scan yesterday, and I'm having a girl too!

Would have been happy either way, but as we're definitely not going to have any more, I'm glad I get to experience bringing up a daughter as well as a son.

I reacted more strongly than I thought I would tbh. Partly I feel overjoyed, but there's a part of me that is in mourning for the little boy I'll never meet. Weird feeling.

crafty - sorry you were feeling sad. I can only speak from experience, but I wouldn't swap my DS for anything. He is just the most wonderful little person (imo). He's very active, but also quite careful. He's never been destructive or rough.

Gender aside, you don't know what you're getting 'til they arrive!

umf · 07/07/2010 18:07

Happy to hear all the good news! Wow 4madboys!

(Weight gain - definitely not weighing self here. Not a chance. Much better not to know. Was weighed at 39 weeks last time for some other reason, and utterly appalled. Two weeks later was already 17kg lighter. Most had evidently been baby, fluid etc.)

Scan yesterday here too. It's another boy, as suspected. All looks fine, v glad to see. Sonographer was nice and talked us through everything.

I'm fine with it being another boy - I thought it was anyway, and DS is great. He's so sweet and affectionate. Not at all destructive! Very verbal, very social. Lots of people have said to me how lovely small boys are, and they seem right so far.

But... it does make me keener to have 3, and try for a girl. I'm not wild about small girls - from what I've seen they can be decidedly manipulative, although fun in their way. Teenage girls unspeakable . But once they're grown up, they often keep in touch much better with parents than sons. At least it looks like that in our extended family. Easier to be close to grandchildren along the female line, no MiL issues.

But if we end up with 3 boys, I'll consider myself blessed to have them, and will practice being a model MiL!

Booboobedoo · 07/07/2010 18:40

It's an emotional discovery, isn't it umf?

Plenty of my female friends have little girls who don't seem at all manipulative fwiw, and I know lots of lovely teenage girls!

I think a lot of this gender stereotyping is erroneous tbh, and most of it seems to be down to personality-type and upbringing.

Congratulations on your baby boy!

(Oh, and particular congrats to 4madboys. Bet you thought DH only produced the XY variety!).

umf · 07/07/2010 19:46

Yes, more emotional than I expected this time.

Don't mean to be mean about girls. Was one myself, after all, and keen to have one next time. Agree gender-stereotyping undesirable. Indeed we try to avoid it in bringing up DS: fairly gender-neutral clothes, dolls, prams, tea parties all available. He's at a stage now where we can start to bring up the worst excesses of gender-exaggeration on CBeebies (Zingzillas? DirtGirlWorld? Great programmes, but representation of girls and boys bonkers. Have you ever seen an off-screen female wave her hands around and speak in that daft way??)

But concerned boys get bad press - considered excessively active and boisterous against modern sedentary lifestyle and unrealistic classroom expectations. So only mean to point out that can be pros and cons to both. And of course you're right - down to individual personality and upbringing more than anything. Even willing to concede that some teenage girls may have civilized relationships with their mothers...

Booboobedoo · 07/07/2010 19:53
  • I know what you mean umf - having recently spent a bit of time on the Mums of Girls Are Smug thread.
Booboobedoo · 07/07/2010 19:55

Just so cute!!

4madboys · 07/07/2010 19:57

yep it is emotional finding out the sex, we werent going to until we went into the room and then dp decided we should and tbh i almost cried when she said it was a girl, i think it was just such a shock, tbh i still dont really believe it.

but we have told the boys and they are pleased and family and friends etc, we thought about keeping it a secret but there was no way that was happening!

i think boys do get a bad press but i can say hand on heart that i love having four boys, honestly they are fabulous and i wouldnt change them for the world, they can be lively and boisterous etc but they are lovely and have all been mummies boys

re buying stuff i am not going to go mad and get girls stuff, i am sure we will get plenty of gifts! and i have friends who have stuff for me, but ihave said i dont want any girl stuff until she is actually here safe and well, paranoid probably but i just want to be sure.

am glad all the scans are going well, its lovely to hear all the good news and this seems to be a good bit of pregnancy, sickness jsut about gone etc and i am feeling really well, have got a fab tan when we were away camping so i look well as well lets hope it lasts!

good luck to those with scans coming up xxx

umf · 07/07/2010 20:50

Boo that's very cute!!

Steps towards homebirth: no pool here, but ordered curtains for sitting room today. Don't mind passers-by peeping in and seeing me lolling on sofa or even doing pilates, but feel giving birth requires greater privacy. Tho would teach nosey-parkers an unforgettable lesson.

All the best for the remaining scans.

BorisTheBold · 07/07/2010 20:59

Wooo - congratulations to all those who've had their scans and to those who've discovered if they're having a boy or girl.

I've got two girls, who are hectic (but at 5 and 3 I wouldn't expect anything else! ). And, at the moment the 3 year is insistant that she is a boy! Both are very funny and loveable - no signs of manipulation as yet .

We decided not to find out what dc3 is, so November is going to be very interesting...

Feeling a bit grotty the last few days, I've been getting booted constantly - no cushioning despite an anterior placenta. If this is 21 weeks, I dread to think what lies ahead. Also think I'm getting SPD, not too bad at present but painful after I've been sitting for a while at work. And to top if off, I have the most amazingly swollen feet most evenings now, I may have to mention to the m/w if I ever see her again .

Anyway, good luck to all those whose scans are due soon and hope everyone else is feeling chirpier than me.

Gaga82 · 07/07/2010 21:52

Hiya, not been on for ages so enjoyed some time reading the last 6 pages! Lovely to hear all the scan news.

Keep feeling a little bad for the bump at the mo, so so busy at work, must take more time to have a chat to baby and make sure I do some relaxing with it!! Have found a pregnancy yoga class to join in a fit of guilt that I should be doing more to make sure he/she is happy in there!

Also not bought anything at all yet for baby. Might change that this weekend, make myself feel better!

to those whose skin is now radiant! I keep hoping...

Booboobedoo · 07/07/2010 21:56

Gaga - enjoy looking after yourself for the last time in a while.

(Mwah ha ha).

bunnygirl80 · 08/07/2010 00:01

4madboys congrats on your girl. I'm sure you'll be swamped with pink frilly stuff from friends etc

And congrats to all the others with good news as well.

DH finally managed to feel the baby kick for the first time yesterday. I'm happy he's finally managed it as he's spent soooo much time with his hand on my tummy and getting more and more disappointed when nothing happens. Baby has most definitely started responding to whats going on outside now, so if I poke my belly I get a well aimed kick back. DH reckons I should stop in case all the poking leaves a dent in LO's head

Wallace · 08/07/2010 07:59

bunny - you must be glowing now

smokey - good luck for your scan

4madboysandonemadgirl - wow

boo - congrats on your girl too Very cute vid!

umf - congratulations on your boy

My two boys are very different btw. DS1 was a very calm and thoughtful toddler and ds2 is well nuts

Well, I had my 20 week scan yesterday and evertything looks perfect I think I might have seen a willy (looked very much like harmony's scan pic) but dh didn't see anything so I am keeping quiet as he really wants it to be a surprise. I have a feeling it is a boy anyway, but I am also prepared to be surprised by a girl Only 20 weeks to wait and see...

cluelessnchaos · 08/07/2010 08:35

ah crafty I was terrified of having a boy until I had one, they are delicous, they love their mums they are so stragiht forward and not at all crafty(i have 2 older girls as well) I had a scan at 18 weeks and thought I saw boy bits, immediatly felt scared at the prospect, then at 20 weeks thought I saw girl bit and felt scared, its doesnt make any difference what it is I am just abit scared of how I am going to cope whatever the flavour, thinking I knew the sex just concentrated the fear and I have met as many nutty girls as boys. Congratulations on your beautiful baby boy, prepare to fall in love.

emmab5 · 08/07/2010 09:27

Hi all, great to hear everybody's lovely scan news. I'm very excited about my scan a week on friday. Unsure if we are going to find out baby's sex - still in negotiations at the mo!

Is anybody else having problems with a very low blood pressure? I keep fainting - at work, out shopping and even managed to faint and fall down stairs at home. DP tells me i'm attention seeking lol. didn't have this with either of the other 2 and it's getting a little embarassing . Wondered if anybody had got any tips for staying upright

hmmSleep · 08/07/2010 10:03

Glad the scan went well wallace, and hope others are having good news too.

emma, my blood pressure was only 106 over 52 at my last check, which to me seems low, but midwife didn't seem to think so. I've not actually fainted (poor you, especially falling down the stairs!!) but have found eating frequently and standing up slowly helps stop me getting that faint dizzy feeling, I just stand still and hold on to a chair until the wooziness stops.

Morning - hope everyone is well. Day off today although DS is home from school as been unwell, poor lad.

Just to throw my experience of boys/girls into the mix... I have a DS (11) who is the sweetest, most sensitive and thoughtful chap. Is a complete breeze and always has been. DD (7) on the other hand... well to say she is wilful, stroppy, temperamental and argumentative doesn't even begin to cover it!! But I wouldn't have her any other way - she is also quirky, confident, intelligent and funny and I love them both to the ends of the earth.
So when we found out ours is a girl (this is DPs 1st) we just laughed - I'm not sure there is room in our house for 2 whirlwinds!!

Anyway that is enough for one post - see next post for details of a giveaway .....

balijay · 08/07/2010 11:44

So, me again

I have spent the last 2 hours sorting through my mountain of baby bedding and I have far too much. If anyone could use the following, I would be happy to post to you, no charge...

  • 6 cotton fitted cot sheets (2 lemon, 2 light blue, 1 pale green and 1 white)
  • 2 fleece blankets - cot size (1 dark blue, 1 light blue)
  • 2 smaller fleece blankets (1 blue, 1 white with navy edging).

Its all in good condition, just surplus to requirements. Probably more suitable for a boy.

If anyone is interested just email me : [email protected] and I will box up and send. Hope it helps someone.
