emmab5 · 08/07/2010 12:04

hmmSleep thanks for the tips. Especially like the idea of eating frequently - does that include chocolate?

Pidgin · 08/07/2010 13:45

Afternoon all! Just got my first delivery of baby stuff from Mothercare and am feeling a bit emotional looking at the tiny tiny scratch mittens and socks - I know I don't need these things for some time but could not resist them on the website. Will I ever produce anything with feet and hands small enough to fit?!

emmab5 chocolate would definitely count! I haven't fainted in pregnancy but when I've felt faint before, biscuits were the best thing at making me feel normal again.

balijay if you are really looking for a good home for your bedding then I would love to take some or all off your hands, and would of course happily pay for postage etc - but I am sure there are others on here who would like to take you up on the offer too! I'll email you anyway.

balijay · 08/07/2010 16:29

Have emailed you Pidgin. Bedding is on its way to a good home everyone! I know I will have other stuff as I sort through everything and will be happy to pass it on to you lot!

harmonyb23 · 08/07/2010 16:55

Hey everyone, I agree that boys are lovely Clueelessnchaos they are such mummies boys. My DS is 7 and still tells me everyday how much he loves me and wants cuddles etc. He is also suprisingly well behaved, more so than his sort of half sister who is a year younger and is an absolute nightmare (though that might be her mother's fault more than the childs) she just screams all the time and is really mischievous!!

I would've liked a girl so that I could have had one of each but I guess we'll just have to keep trying. We've decided that we're going to wait a year then have another!!! More to look forward to!!!

I have found the cot I want now, and DP mum has volunteered to buy me the cot and all the bedding to go with it, so that's cool. What do you think of it I have to get her to buy it asap though as there were only 13 left last time I looked... I might get the matching changing table as well. I don't know what bedding to get yet but I'm going to leave that for now, baby will be in moses basket for first weeks anyway!!

Having thoughts about names now, thinking I might go for Aiden I think that's a nice name and is also the name of one of my favourite bands (I went to see them last year lol). What names are others going for?

Loooopy · 08/07/2010 18:32

harmonyb23 i went to the kiddicare store a few weeks back, as i wanted to have a "play" with the cots....years of babysitting other peoples children made me realise just how awkward some cots are to raise/lower the sides without waking the baby in the process, plus wanted to make sure i found one i was happy with quality of etc.....

well we wandered around trying them all out, initially i was looking to spend around £100 plus a mattress, so not much different to you, however after seeing and touching and playing with them, i rapidly altered my mind as most of the cheaper ones they sell really seem awful quality and very clunky and quite a few i couldn't operate two handed, never mind one handed if was holding a baby.

So we chose to get the kiddicouture cookie dough one, which was very easy to operate, and much thicker and better quality wood and finish! Just glad i live close enough to visit their one and only store!!

(must add, it could be down to the staff badly assembling them, but i wasn't prepared to take any chances!!)

Loooopy · 08/07/2010 18:34

PS my mom paid for our cot too - so the cost was £169.99 to her, and then we just had to buy the mattress which pushes the cost well above your one, and the matching changing dresser (couldn't resist!!)

FourEyesGood · 08/07/2010 19:27

Went to the doctor today because of really bad lower back pain (SPD?); went into work yesterday and they insisted that I go home (DH and DS enjoyed getting a taxi to come and "rescue" me , because school said they weren't happy with me driving in such pain), so have been mostly lying down for the past two days. Doc says I can have co-codamol and if I'm still bad on Monday I should ring him and he'll refer me for physio. So any of you who have back pain should definitely not just grin and bear it - I did for a few days and it just got really painful.

My first pregnancy was so straightforward; after the nausea passed at about 12 weeks, it was all plain sailing. This one seems to be fraught with all sorts of problems! Roll on November...

smokeybacon · 08/07/2010 20:11

So scan went well. Still 2 in there and both looking good. No idea what sex they may be, and happy to keep it that way till they arrive.

foureyes sympathies coming your way for your back pain. Is it there all the time? Or does it depend on your position? I'm getting it too and it seems to depend on how I've slept, been sitting etc. Its right at the bottom of my back, on the left side and sometimes is so painful it stops me in my tracks. I'd def go for the physio as am thinking I may do the same. I had the same pain with both DSs pgs and it eased off unbeleiveably from about 25 weeks, but with 2 babies in there, I expect this one to just get worse.

JFly · 08/07/2010 20:23

Hi ladies. This thread moves so fast, I can't keep up! But I did just glance through the last few posts and couldn't help but come back to say "wow" to 4madboys! I think it's very exciting. I'm one of 5 girls and I'm pretty sure the odds of having a different sex once you get 3+ kids decreases. Anyhoo, what fun! You must go on March 08 and tell everyone!

My scan is tomorrow morning. I'll be 19 weeks plus a few days. Hoping everything is OK, as I had dodgy blood work with the nuchal test. I don't think we'll find out the sex unless DH changes his mind. I'd love to know, but we didn't find out last time so I'm used to the long wait.

Good luck to everyone looking forward to scans (if anyone is left??) and will pop back here and there if you all would just slow down!

harmonyb23 · 09/07/2010 08:35

Hey everyone, decided to buy the cot and changer. Thanks for the advice Looopy think it should be OK. I wasn't looking for anything too fancy anyway, should be alright, and if it's not good quality I shall be sending it back!

Sorry to hear about those suffering with back pain. My SPD is still painful but I'm starting to get used to it now! I get back pain from time to time but it's not usually too bad, yesterday it was quite painful and I had to walk round to collect DS holding my back as it was so bad. But as soon as I got home the pain cleared up, think it must be the position the baby is lying in which is giving me backache!

Have a really upset stomach today and so have been running back and forth to the toilet all morning, decided it was best I not go into work for fear of having an "accident" so am staying home. It's the last day of term for the school I work at anyway so there's nothing happening all day anyway, figure I'm better off at home. Hope everyone else is well and good luck to those having scans today!! x x x

dairymum · 09/07/2010 09:08

Haven't posted for a while but been lurking around. Had a very emotional week since our neighbour announced last week they are planning to build a house or 2 right in front of us. It has taken us 5 years to build this house and they are going to totally obstruct our gorgeous view. Now in a total quandary whether to stay or move. probably move, but it brings tears to my eyes every time i think about it.

Congrats to everyone who has had their scan. My bump is feeling rather tired today after trying to teach dd2 to ride her bike yesterday, followed by pushing heavily laden shopping trolley round tesco.

Rather jealous of those out buying cots etc, as we've got pretty much everything from first 2. Only need a new pram and plenty friends have offered theirs so i'm making do with planning decor in babys room. Tractors and diggers everywhere!!

Sorry to be so me me me.

PrivetDancer · 09/07/2010 10:27

dairymum - that totally sucks
do you think they'll get permission for it? I know you can't object on the basis of losing your view, but there are heaps of other things that can be complained about.
If you are going to move you would be better to try and sell before they apply for planning permission although of course that would not be nice for the people buying it. On the other hand, depending on the houses to be built you might find that once they are there you don't really notice them, you will still have your lovely house.

hello to everyone else, smokey I'm glad to hear our twins are ok (note they are the whole thread's twins, not just yours )
Great that everyone else getting good scans too!

Nothing to report here, I'm feeling fine and feeling the baby move quite a bit now.
Got two lots of people staying this weekend so am being grumpy about that - much prefer it when it's just us! But it is nice to be sociable... I suppose..

Vix7 · 09/07/2010 17:43

hullo all!
it's my birthday week so DH has said i can do anything i want this weekend. seeing as he is away on work on my actual birthday boo!

haven't bought ANYTHING for baby yet! but i HAVE signed up for the John Lewis nursery advice session so i'll have some clue on what to get.

friends have passed us a baby carrier and a few 0-3m clothes. meant for a boy but we're not fussed. tried to get some 2nd hand stuff from a NCT forum but fingers were not fast enough and they were gone by the time i emailed.
would be nice to know if it's a bor or girl ....still tempted to pay out of own pocket for a private sexing scan.

still haven't decided on cot vs moses basket. or cot vs collapsible cot. more or less set on the pram which we'll get later on.

Mibby · 09/07/2010 18:13

Hello all

Have ordered the cot today, delivery will hopefully be on Monday and we've finally started clearing the spare room of the computer and mountains of random 'important stuff' that has collected in there so we can start stripping paper and re-decorating in the near future

On a less cheerful note, our oldest cat died in the early hours of this morning so I'm sad and tearful today

All is well with baby tho and she's very wiggly now

Hope everyone has a nice weekend

Mibby

smokeybacon · 09/07/2010 22:58

privet welling up at the twins being the threads twins!

mibby sorry about your cat. They have a way of becoming part of the family. for you.

Just been out for a big work party. Felt a bit fat but everyone has been so lovely about the twins. In fact it was ALL everyone wanted to talk about with me. Lovely, but it did get to the point when I felt like saying There Is More To Me Than This Bump You Know. I used to have a life......I used to be able to stay out late and get drunk.........Oh well.

Wallace · 10/07/2010 07:11

foureyesgood - big sympathies for you

smokeybacan - glad you had a good scan and our twins are fine

jfly - how did your scan go?

dairymum - what a shame about your house

Vix - HAppy Bithday weekend! Have a lovely time

Mibby - sorry to hear about your cat xx

Pidgin · 10/07/2010 08:41

Sorry to hear about your pain foureyes, it sounds horrible. And about your cat Mibby, very sad.

Balijay thanks so much for your email and being a real star! If anyone would like to share items on the list, please let me know, I do not want to be greedy with them!

I had a bit of a horrible time yesterday as I had some bleeding in the afternoon, so had to drive home immediately from work in disgusting rush hour and then to hospital. Fortunately the baby looks fine - heart beating strongly, although the midwife had trouble hearing it as he kept kicking the monitor away . They decided not to keep me in, thank goodness, but I'm feeling a bit zonked today, and I'm going straight back to bed...

Have a good weekend everyone, and happy birthday Vix! Very excited to hear about everyone's cot and nursery plans.

shoppingstar · 10/07/2010 09:09

Pidgin sounds like a weekend to have lots of relaxing you time. A horrible experience but great to hear an active LO kicking away from the MW.

Hugs MIbby and happy memories of your cat.

And congratulations to everyone who had scans this week.

I spent last weekend with friends who have 4 DC under 6, the youngest one was due on my due date last year if you see what I mean and is exactly how old my LO will be when I return to work this time next year. I loved seeing all the DC but had a bit of a freak out on the way home "what have we done" "he is still a baby and I will be back at work" "I need to clean/sort/do x, y and z NOW" etc etc

So have now bought a lovely cot on ebay and MIL is buying a new mattress and have also begun to think about child care. Although it means a few different people I'm thinking about sharing childcare and would value opinions from you guys who have DC already. I will be working 4 days per week so will have LO for one day myself. My DH will also work 4 days and have LO for a day himself. My mum wants to do a day as does my MIL and the lovely lady CM (who lives downstairs but is not doing other child minding any more) is happy to do one day and some flexible cover. So LO will be in our flat but with variety of adults 6 days per week and 1 day downstairs with CM - does that sounds OK or like chaos?

JFly · 10/07/2010 19:51

Scan on Friday was very uneventful, thankfully! Everything "normal" and "average" which was fine by me. Consultant did the scan and it felt very thorough so was reassured by results. So, no need for further scans and just hope everything continues to go as it should. Baby gave me a few kicks on the way home, which was a nice way of saying hello, I think!

Pidgin so sorry about the bleeding - how scary for you. Glad everything OK.

Mibby, condolences on the loss of your cat. How sad.

Wallace · 11/07/2010 07:36

Pidgin - how scary. Hope everything is fine now? x

shoppingstar - I think your arrangements sound fine. LO will mainly be looked after by parents and grannies - perfect

JFly - Glad you had a nice scan

Wallace · 11/07/2010 07:38

My bump has appeared in the last few days. On wednesday when I went for my scan I hardly had a bump. Yesterday by the end of the day I looked enormous

bunnygirl80 · 11/07/2010 09:23

mibby sorry to hear about your cat

pidgin that bleeding must have been scary - hope you managed to spend the weekend relaxing.

wallace I must be the same as you, as my bump has popped out this week. When we were on holiday last week noone could even tell I'm pg...this week I feel massive. I think my abs have finally given up fighting to hold everything in

tanmu82 · 11/07/2010 18:10

Hi all, popping back in after aaaages - this thread is so long now I am totally lost!

I'll be 24 weeks on tuesday - baby is very active kicking me anytime I lie down/sit too close to my desk/go for a swim etc....we've decided on a name too.

I haven't bought anything for her yet, but did go through the clothes I hung on to after DS and DD - got more than I thought, but still need a few bits. It will all seem even more real when I get to go and buy the pushchair and cot IYKWIM.

I think I want to buy the My child verso travel system, it looks good and the few reviews I've found seem positive - anyone else got any experience with this make of pram?

sorry this is a bit of a self indulgent post, but so much has gone on in this thread aince I was last on that I feel a bit out of it.....

shoppingstar · 11/07/2010 18:32

Thanks Wallace - just takes one negative comment from someone to make me unsure at the moment, maybe my hormones.

Hope everything has settled Pidgin.

umf · 12/07/2010 09:51

Hope you got a rest and all well, pidgin. V sorry to hear about mibby's cat. Our old family cat is on last legs, v sad.

shoppingstar I think those arrangements sound great. Not least because you won't be forking out your entire salary for childcare. For DC it sounds lovely. For you, make sure the various carers understand that part of their job is tidying up at the end of everyday, picking up small groceries etc. So that they aren't just having the good times with poppet while you facilitate everything.

DS's nursery school term has ended so he and I are spending a week at my parents' so that I can finalize and print my phd thesis - submitting next week! Will be v happy to be done with it, but a bit scared at the same time. Still have viva, publishing articles etc ahead of me. But won't be applying for jobs until at least 2012, so suddenly sahm for foreseeable future, when have been used to being madly busy juggling working mother. Very torn by conflicting desires, but do want to be with DCs more and have more relaxed home life.
