homebirthmummy4 · 04/06/2010 08:06

good luck booboo. i am still waiting (15 days over now) for my 4th. labour was a little different for each of mine but you do eventually just know, with my third, i went to visit my mum about 2 hours after i started and was there all day before she asked if i was in labour! that was my easiest birth i have to say, fairly pain free and only one push to deliver entire baby.
beginning to feel like i will be very last to deliver

MoggMum · 04/06/2010 08:25

hi all.quick update from hospital bed. Dylan Ashley Mills born 7.34am on 3rd June 7lb 10oz. Em c-section following 14 hour induced labour - will post full birth story when home on sunday. feeling exhausted & v sore but he is lovely and feeding as i type this

homebirthmummy4 · 04/06/2010 08:39

oh congratulations moggmum. i will look forward to sunday, hope you get lots of rest and pampering.

booboomonster · 04/06/2010 09:17

Thanks homebirthmummy - like the sound of your third labour! Things have tailed off a bit here. Around 7am I felt so tired and slept for an hour and since then I have had very mild pains. Bit more of a show though so hoping it's going to start up again soon. Am going to go for a walk now then I am supposed to have sweep at 11am - I am assuming it's best to have it? Anyone had a sweep whilst in early labour?

booboomonster · 04/06/2010 09:18

Well done Mogg too! Hope you are feeling ok, great to be feeding successfully already!

rachelfruitloop · 04/06/2010 09:28

Lovely! More gorgeous babies! Is it more boys that are keeping us waiting?? Good luck today cupcake x

first1 · 04/06/2010 11:52

Hello everyone, sorry I've been so crap at keeping up. We've had a pretty eventful week. On Tuesday we noticed Chloe's cord was quite wiffy and oozing so took her off the GP where the receptionist gave me a bollocking saying she couldnt be seen because she hadn't been registered yet - she was 5 days old! - Cue serious frustration from DH and I. Anyway, eventually got her seen and doc thought she had a bit of an infection so swabbed it and just told us to clean with salt water until the result. Well morning came, and Chloe was inconsolable, wouldn't stop crying, being sick, wouldn't poo. Nightmare. So spent the day with her in casualty. Poor thing had a suppository and a zillion doctors prodding her, it was heartbreaking to watch. But she's ok now. They think just side effects of the infection.

As for me, well I had a third degree tear as the MW didn't quite realise she was so close to being born as it all happened so quickly - 4 to 9cms in an hour. So I was pushing away when really she should have told me to pant. So I'm feeling very sorry for myself. Can't sit down for more than 10minutes without wincing, can't wee without it stinging. Basically I'm just overly moany right now! Had two lots of antibiotics for a week which I've now finished but it's still quite red and angry looking. I also lost about 500mls of blood as placenta took its time to deliver, so hello iron tablets! Pah, nobody prepared me for the physical recovery!!

Anyway on a brighter note, booked Chloe's birth registration for the 21st. Was quite surprised that was the earliest appointment they had.

Lovely to see all these babies moving into the arrivals list. Can't believe we're in June!

cupcake all the best for today! I was induced too, and although there was a fair bit of hanging around doing sudoku it wasnt too bad!

racquel congrats! I totally sympathise on the 3rd degree tear.

sk Big boo to your man! Doesn't he know not to wind up a still hormonal postnatal woman!

everyone else Hope you're all doing ok, catching every second of sleep you can, and enjoying your bubbas! And to those still waiting, my BIGGEST sympathies! It really will be all over soon!

quick q How long did you all bleed for/ are still bleeding? I'm only 8 days postnatal and fed up of what seems to be the mother of all periods!

Right off to slump on the sofa before she wakes up again!

homebirthmummy4 · 04/06/2010 12:09

just had a thought for all you who already have your babies (40+15 still WAITING) i am sure its not in your mind just yet, BUT i have become pregnant TWICE whilst still breastfeeding...when you get to that point in your recovery, be careful not surprised! (it wasnt a problem really, i was delighted both times, but it IS a myth that breast feeding is a contraceptive)

hollyoaks · 04/06/2010 12:29

Morning all

First1 - sorry to hear your dd wasn't well, but at least she's been seen to and is on the mend. It's horrible when the drs are poking at them, you just want to take it all away don't you. DD had 2 suppositries and an enema so know the feeling well Ten days postnatal and still bleeding too

Cupcake - good luck

SK - sorry your dh is being a pain, especially with 4 dc to see too and a load of hormones

Booboo - my fingers are crossed for you

Molly - at you going to work, I thought I was bad checking my emails

Mogg - congratulations

Den - I seem to have up and down days, but mostly feel fine. Feel a bit cheated out of the post-birth high as we were in hospital, but definitely not as weepy as with dd1.

Tomlin - we are experiencing major sibling rivalry here too. DD1 is having major paddies when we used the buggy for the first time, when Grace went into the moses basket etc... She's also reverted back to asking for her dummy constantly and is really clingy. Usually she's really good and content. In fact she's more work than dd2 at the moment.

Carikube · 04/06/2010 12:48

first1 I'm still bleeding at 14 days here - I can't remember how long it lasted after DD1 but I think it was round 3 weeks or so (though I know people who have bled for up to 10 weeks so anything could be 'normal'). I think it's payback for not having had any periods for 9 months ...

hollyoaks DD1 is still showing signs of not being overly impressed about the arrival of DD2 though things are improving. She also seems to have suddenly snapped out of a funk and decided to make progress as following her sudden climbing of the stairs, she's showing more signs of wanting to walk.

homebirth thanks for the reminder...my mum told me that she didn't have a single period between having DS1 and DS4 and there aren't any twins in there either...

We all had a brilliant night last night - DD1 slept through, DD2 only woke once at 4.30 for a feed and so we're bouncing today. Just as well as we have been out for most of the morning and then we have the HV's first visit this afternoon as well as visits from friends. Just been told though that my cousin is in hospital with suspected cancer so am now a bit compared to earlier

pigleychez · 04/06/2010 14:40

Mollycuddles- at going back to work already!

Booboo- fingers crossed this is the start for you

Moggmum- Congratulations looking forward to the full story.

Cupcake- good luck for you induction today

Hollyoaks- Sorry to hear DD is taking a while to get used to her new sister. Im sure its just a phase.
Thankfully DD has been fine so far, but then had DH's attention so guess when he goes back on Monday will be the decider! She does however seem to be costing us a fortune in milk as she often asks for a cup of milk when Lucy has a feed.

Carikube- to hear about your cousin.

Had a fab morning with a friend and her 3yr old. The girls have been playing in the paddling pool and took great delight in getting DH throughly soaked! Loving the sunny weather

Any sling experts here? Anyone got any experience on the Babasling?

AliMouse · 04/06/2010 17:55

Hi ladies,

Congrats to moggmum and raquel - best of luck cupcake!

Caleb Lloyd was born yesterday at 2.31pm.

My birth story - quite undramatic I'm afriad! I was indeed in labour when I last posted and things progressed quickly - I got the kids up and we did the presents with DS2 then quickly dispatched them to MIL before I started mooing. I had a MW appointment booked at my house anyway so she did an internal examination at 9.30am and I was 3cms. I watched some episodes of extras at home and managed to get a bit of sleep in between contractions with the aid of some stashed codeine based treats I'd been saving but got to the OMG stage about 11.30am. Awful journey - some idiot decided to build a huge shopping centre on a single lane road before the hospital so we crawled there.

Thankfully, I had the lovliest MW ever who was usually based at the MBU and was totally up for a VBAC - she just did a quick check and left me with a lovely huge full canister of GnA and planned to come back to do a check an hour later. When she checked me I was 9.5 cms and starting to feel like I wanted to push - that was at 1.30pm. By 2.06 I started pushing and left off the GnA - was feeling a bit detached and I remembered it's pretty hard to bear down when your sucking in.

It seemed like forever and it was even more painful than I remember but he was born at 2.31pm. He got his shoulders stuck and had to be pulled out of me and went pretty blue straight after. He was 8lb 1oz and has a huge head - very plump large shouldered baby with big feet. He's got masses of black curly hair (his dad is of dubious spanish decent from a forbidden dallience his great grandmother had). He's gorgeous and I was besotted instantly!

I'm told it was a textbook delivery - I am so horribly and immensly proud of myself after the first experience I had and I'm quite evangelistic about natural births now. I didn't graze or tear and we were allowed home that evening at 7.30pm.

Caleb slept all night in our bed last night - a perfect end to a really positive experience. I'm completely punch drunk today and just wandering around blissed out and a bit dazed. My DS2 just asked to cuddle him declaring 'he is actually nice', so much relief! My eldest is smitten and I've had to fight him for access.

BF going well and creating huge afterpains - the belly has shrunk already and I'm now very excited about getting back into my clothes!

I'll put some photos of caleb up on my profile (I'm not on FB). I'm so proud of him! He is divine!

Best of luck all you other ladies labouring and waiting - can't wait to read more birth stories.

sweetkitty · 04/06/2010 20:38

hello all

Alimouse - what a lovely birth story had me in tears about you all being so besotted with him, well done you

pigley - I just took delivery of a new sling today, I was looking at a babasling but got put off them as I don't like the over one shoulder slouched down thing. After much consultation on MN and other sling sites I chose a Moby Wrap, haven't had a chance to try it out but so far it looks like a very expensive, very large bit of material

Post natal bleeding - longest here was 6 weeks with DD1, others have been around 4 weeks, it has just stopped here.

first1 - Jacob had an absolutely disgusting smelling cord stump and it was all yellow and gunky, I was convinced it was an infection and got told very abruptly by the MW that it was normal tea tree and lavender oil baths for your tear and pour a jug of lukewarm water over your bits as you pee to reduce stinging or pee in the shower (I know but needs must) also lots and lots of water to water down your pee and as you are on iron tablets. I know you will feel a bit of a wreck for a wee while yet

Good luck booboo monster as well

did I say congratulations to moggmum? Congratulations

best of luck cupcake

Looks like we will finally get the last of our wee babies.

Nothing much to report here Jacob been really unsettled and whingey all day just wish I could make him a happy wee baby.

TomlinTowers · 04/06/2010 21:58

Just logging on to see if there are any more babies - and there are two with what one sounds like at least one on the way! Congrats Alimouse and Moggmum - brilliant names.

Good luck Cupcake and booboo - thinking positive thoughts for you.

I am still bleeding 21 days post birth, but has been really light for last 2-3 days, just like end of period. Bled for 5 weeks with DS1 and in end went back on pill just to get bleeding to stop as was so fed up of it.

Sk - sorry to hear about your DH and the problems with your neighbours. Hope that all gets sorted out.

Not quite sure what to do about contraception here, but thanks for the reminder homebirth - I usually take the pill but have read that can't take that when BF. Don't want anything too permanent as still in discussions about a DC3 so will need to consider other options. Or just not DTD for the next 6 - 9 months...

Whoever asked about cord stump - DD had awful cord stump, all green and horrible. Noticed pus-looking substance under it so took her to MW who said it was all normal. It had a little bit of old vein sticking out of it as well - totally gross!! It finally fell off about a week ago thank god, and the bit of vein has folded into the skin so it has turned out ok but I really hate the cord stumps!

Much better day with DS today, but I think that is because we spent all day with my DSis and DBIL so he has had undivided attention all day. Will just have to stick with it, and make sure that I do as much as possible with him when DD is asleep, and hope that it all calms down. He is having his birthday party tomorrow (just a small do for 8 of his friends in my Mum's back garden, bless my Mum) and it looks like good weather, so hopefully that will all go ok and not end in a huge argument about who's turn it is on the trampoline!

Am just waiting for Dh to get home from the pub - he went out for an hour on his bike with DBIL for a quick drink - "no longer than an hour I promise" - three hours later, still not back. Man hours must last longer than women hours!

schipo · 04/06/2010 22:34

Congratulations on your deliveries Raquel, Moggmum and Alimouse. Sounds like Caleb has had a fine welcome.

Fingers crossed it's going well for cupcake and booboo Moggmum I really hope the birth wasn't too much of a replay of your sister's. Fingers crossed you're enjoying your new little boy at home soon.

Memorylapse - great tip about expressing from one side while feeding from the other. I'm going to try it tomorrow and maybe i'll get a sleep-in one of these days. DH hasn't had a disturbed night yet - he's way too deaf

I've had so many good tips from this thread. I'm certainly getting through lots of tea tree and lavender!

I also had a tip from a friend the other day. She told me to make sure I eat early in the day if I wanted to avoid being up in the night - that the milk is richer if you've had a good meal. Good advice I guess if you're like me and tend to skip breakfast and sometimes lunch. Anyone else found this?

mdm - you're not the only one regretting having left it late. But you're not even that old! You could get a few more in yet

pigley- I'm no expert yet but babasling is one of the 4 different types I'm trying (thank god for ebay). I have to say we prefer the stretchy cloth ones - baby seems more secure and comfortable in them. I think they're womb like for the baby. The babasling looks easier but not sure if baby is squashed in it. I've also got the Tots Bots Papoozle, Kari-me and Ergo Baby Carrier to try The kari-me is just a big piece of cloth like the Moby and its been most useful for me so far.

brightredballoon · 04/06/2010 23:36

Molly most impressed with you going into work and feeding during a meeting

I really need to do something about my weight, I am 2st overweight but feel more like 4, I really don't recognise myself and feel its affecting my self confidence and I have no clothes to wear!

Den I have only expressed once this time and also got 2oz but that was soon after feeding DD2 and I didn't really have the patience to try and get more.
ML's advice is good to express whilst feeding from the other, remember babies are a lot more efficient at getting milk from you so don't worry there wont be any if your baby wants a feed soon after you have expressed.
Advice I was given is to express in the morning, I certainly feel fuller in the morning so when I get organised to sterilise the pump the night before I will try it!
Last time I used to get 5ounces per expressing session.

congratulations Ali well done on your VBAC

pigley I am using a coorie fleece sling at the moment (bizarrely its not too hot in this glorious weather), but I cant imagine using it past 3 months as the load is all on one shoulder. I have a Mei Tei coming, apparently very easy to use and is suitable from birth to 3/4 yrs old.

If any of the new mums wants the rest of my 200c arnica let me know and I will post to you. I am not sure if they worked but worth a try!

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend, we have our village's local summer events starting tomorrow , it signals the start of a good packed 2 weeks

Very quick post from hospital bed. A girl - Ariel India born 3.25 am this morning - we got a waterbirth but in addition she had her sac intact so my waters never went. A real water baby methinks! She is a slightly eyewatering 10pounds 4! Managed on gas and air and the pool, pushing stage was very quick so was in a state of shock after DD 1 which took 2 hours. 2nd degree tear but pretty tiny. Bonkers midwife but I liked her. Ariel is amazing, fed straight off and now sleeping!
Thanks so much for all good vibes - off to have a sleep while she does! X

Congratulations Alimouse and Booboo

Ali - I felt just like you after having dd2, I'm so proud of myself after an assisted delivery with dd1. The mw said I was breathing her out (I'm sure I was pushing) but strangely it was a really enjoyable experience and I felt fab afterwards.

Cords - did anyone's lo's cords bleed ever so slightly when they started to come away? Grace has quite a large cord and it's fairly well stuck, but I noticed a drop of blood on her vest this morning and its come from one side of her cord, thankfully nowhere near her scar.

memorylapse · 05/06/2010 09:31

quick post..conrats ali and booboo

hollyoaks..yes Olivias cord bled a little..but was fine..

years ago when I had dd 1 (19 years)..the usual practice was to sprinkle some powder over the cord to make it shrivel up and heal..they dont do that anymore though

Carikube · 05/06/2010 11:32

Congrats ali and booboo...we're nearly all through to the other side now! Good luck to cupcake and homebirthmummy and anyone else still waiting.

Hollyoaks I'm with you on the sense of pride - I was a bit concerned that I'd end up needing assistance again so was very pleased I managed to push DD2 out on my own this time. Also DD2's cord fell off quite early and then we did have blood on her sleepsuits a couple of times which got me worried. Now it's going a bit crusty with what I thought was pus but the MW tells me is something to do with white blood cells and that I shouldn't pick the crusty bits off but just let it dry out naturally. DD2 certainly seems less fussed about it since I've stopped trying to clean the pus and crust away.

Tomlin am with you on trying to work out what to do about contraception. The HV was most insistent yesterday that I tell her what I was planning to use (though didn't say anything about the pill and bfing ) not that I think it is really any of her business but as I think we will probably be going for DC3 at some point (after I've got at least one of the girls out of nappies but before I get too old )

DD2 fed at 10.30pm and 5.45am last night - what bliss!!

Jacobs cord was the most foul smelling disgusting thing ever and it was full of pus and bled a lot. It's fine now cute little belly button.

Got him in the Moby sling now, he loves it, at first I was like all this material I will never be able to do it but actually it is very easy and comfy to wear.

contraception wise if we ever get the chance again we will use condoms until DP plucks up the courage to get the snip! No more babies here for sure.

booboomonster - congratulations, pretty names too

I think it's mad Jacob is officially one month old today and there are still babies being born

tomlin - love the "man hours" thing

I just wanted to pop in and say congratulations to all the new arrivals.

I have not read the thread recently (sorry) as I am struggling with bf (again) and have been using any spare time to read up on this.

I had to mix feed both dc1 and 2 but the idea of it again is making me feel sad as dd2 is my last baby and I wanted to bf her "properly"
Anyhow, I digress. Will catch up soon.
