Good luck Ali! Can't believe it happening today, but sounds like you have the right attitude! Keep us posted if you can, and happy birthday to your DS! (no news here!) x

mollycuddles · 03/06/2010 07:55

Good luck Ali - an extra birthday present from new baby will help too. There's four days between ds and dd1s birthdays and we did parties on consecutive weekends until this year as now ds too big for parties. It never mattered that the parties weren't on their actual birthday and we celebrated those as a family separately. DH is rubbish with dates so having them close means he never forgets. Does mean that in expense terms we feel as if Christmas happens twice. When we decided to go for dc3 I was determined not to have another April babe.

Disturbed night here as Molly has discovered cluster feeding and annoyingly instead of the classical evening type from say 8 to 11 she starts about 11 and feeds to 2. At least I know it's normal and not because I haven't got enough milk and dd1 did it and it wasn't forever. I'm taking her into work later to show her off so hope I get some more rest this am.

hollyoaks · 03/06/2010 08:11

Morning

Ali - good luck and happy birthday to your ds. Hope you manage to stay long enough for cake and presents

Booboo - fingers crossed something happens soon. I was terrified about the jump to two, at first you seem to have to coordinate and plan everything (like how to get downstairs in the morning) but then it seems to get easier. I'm taking it a day at a time, this weeks goal is to get us all ready and todays goal is a walk out with the buggy for the first time.

MDM - hope the in-laws are giving you lots of help

Pigley - how much weight did Lucy lose? Grace has lost 7oz, just not sure if that's normal weight loss or because she didn't feed for the first five days.

Pamelat - really feel for you, breast feeding is much harder than I ever thought it could be, especially with a 2yo in tow. Have you tried a dummy to settle him?

Homebirth & Raquel - good luck for arrivals soon.

BRB - I didn't wake Grace for feeds yesterday but she didn't go longer than 3 hours anyway and was only up for feeds at 1am and then 5am. Feel like a new woman.

Sassles - glad the headaches are clearing, you'll be fine when you have to go it alone. I was thrown in the deep end as my first day alone was our first full day out of hospital and now dh is working the weekend too Try and get lots of help around if you can.

For those struggling at night, a breast feeding support worker recommended lying down to feed at night and letting lo settle in the bed before transferring them to the basket/cot. She also recommended placing a piece of your clothing in the basket too so lo feels close to you. It seemed to work last night plus a dummy helped get us from 4am to 5am.

Well, off to feed again and then onto breakfast time for me and dd1.

pigleychez · 03/06/2010 10:14

Booboo- Hope the sweep does something for you

Ali- Ohhh fingers crossed for you! Happy birthday to DS too

Hollyoaks- Lucy was 7.12 at birth but went down to 7.4. The MW said it was ok as long as it was within 10% of her birth weight. I think it was because she didnt feed that much the first few days and just slept, Still im happier now shes back up.

Off for an eye test this morning. Not really looking forward to it but really need to get tested as my sight has got worse and worse over the past few years. Its muchly over due!
Just know im going to end up with glasses!

Then another afternoon in the garden with visitors planned here

Looking forward to more announcements soon.

cupcakefairy · 03/06/2010 10:37

Morning ladies, still nothing here despite trying yet more home remedies last night. Off for another heart trace this morning and induction booked for tomorrow. Feel very

Ali great news you've gone naturally () but how typical for it to be today!! Glad you're excited though

Gils · 03/06/2010 10:55

Had mini meltdown last night. Someone please tell me bf gets easier. Our normal pattern is she feeds every 3/3.5 hours during day normally lasting an hour. Will always have one feed that lasts about 2 hours then about bedtime a 5/6 hour feeding session starts.
Just have no idea how I will cope when dh goes to work on Monday cause he will be away till Thursday night. I am spending no time with dd1 and she is really playing up. Haven't been able to do bath as lo is always on marathon feeding session then. Last night broke down 5 hours into feed. Boobs are so sore.
Don't want to move to ff but at moment just can't see how I am gonna do bf for these lengths of times and deal with dd.
Had health visitor in and lost another couple oz. Don't know how that is poss.
Sorry for moaning me posts. Have been trying to keep up. Reading all your posts on dh phone during feeds.
Cupcake can't believe you are so far overdue. I was pulling hair out by 11 days. Good luck for Friday. Don't panic about being induced.

30ish · 03/06/2010 11:14

Pamelat and Gils - I am in the same boat! I wanted to BF DD but after antibiotics she got thrush and it was too painful for her to feed and she ended up on bottles. This time, DS was excellent at BF from the beginning but the evening cluster feeds and not spending time with DD really got me down! I've slowly reduced breast feeding and introduced bottles but we had a terrible day yesterday - he was in agony with wind and has been constipated. This didn't happen when he was on breast - he was incredibly contented! I feel so guilty and i'm not at all sure what to do! I really hate the idea of continuing to breast feed but want Oliver to be contented and happy. I also want to be ble to spen quality time with my DD. My milk supply isn't what it was either so not sure what would happen if I decided to exclusively breastfeed! HELP - really need someone to make the decision for me! I would never post this on the breastfeeding forum - I really don't need the added hassle of being flamed alive by the militant BF squad!

Carikube · 03/06/2010 12:06

Ali happy birthday to your DS and hope you manage to get some cake in before giving birth!

Hollyoaks DD1 lost a pound when she was born so it sounds as though Grace hasn't lost that much really. DD2 has only been weighed once since birth and she had put on an oz; she'll be weighed again tomorrow when the HV does her first visit (she'll be 14 days) so we'll see how she's doing.

I only offer one boob at each feed. With DD1 I was told to do 10-15 minutes on one side and then switch to the other and she never put on weight as quickly as she was 'expected' to and I wonder whether it's because she never had a chance to get to the really high calorie hind milk (I could of course be talking rubbish) so this time I'm letting DD2 spend as long as she likes on one boob and then leaving it at that.

She also slept in her moses basket last night - we left the light on and the radio on to start with and I did stick my finger in her mouth for a little while, but she settled in there after each feed as well so hopefully this is the start of her going in there. DD1 had a nightmare night though and DH ended up taking her in to the spare room and sleeping with her there. He's now grumpy as it meant we weren't up early enough to get out to go to the swings and paddling pool like we'd planned as he had to go off to an appointment...oh well, there's always tomorrow morning.

Gils is LO feeding the whole time she's on you, or is she just suckling? DD2 isn't a fan of a dummy but she is more than happy to suck on my little finger - if she goes off like this I'm happy to let her as if she were really hungry she would cry about having the finger instead of food. I don't really have any bf advice; I got myself in such knots about it with DD1 and always felt such a failure. Although it's going better this time I'm not going to count my chickens until we have a few more weeks under our belts. I know I was always told that it should click by about 6 weeks (which is actually when I gave up completely with DD1) so I guess it depends on whether you can wait that long for it to get better though with another LO to look after it's not easy...

cupcakefairy · 03/06/2010 13:23

Hello all, just a quick update. Second heart trace v healthy and had a THIRD sweep ...cervix slightly more favourable and 1cm dilated which is v good news
Induction tomorrow...boo. Just hoping it doesn't involved hours and hours of waiting around for things to start. We haven't heard back from mogg yet; hope she was ok with her induction. And hope things progressed for racquel too.

Sorry to hear about bfing worries 30ish you sound really in 2 minds bless you...is there a bfing counsellor you can talk to in your area? Just remember happy mummy=happy baby so don't go round feeling guilty whatever you decide to do

carikube great news on the moses basket progress!

Sorry to hear people are struggling with the BF. I am pretty much FF lucy now. Still expressing what i can but my supply has dropped and Im struggling to keep up as she drinks more. She is taking up to 4ozs at a time.
Totally agree with Happy mummy= Happy baby.
at you mummys who find BF easy and are naturals at it.

30ish- re wind.
Lucy has been abit windy lately and DD was too.
Ive just bought some Infacol and gripe water as these both worked well with DD. Might be worth a try for you.

Cupcake- Glad the heart trace went well and fingers crossed the 3rd sweep works for you.
Cant believe we had the same due date!

Just returned from my eye test and ive choosen my specs ready to be picked up next week. Im now just bating off the "speccy four eyes" and " Triple glazing" jibes from DH. Only need them for driving and distance work so not too bad. Optician said that having babies can cause havoc with your eyes and as Lucy is still only tiny they could get worse and I need them permentantly

Just waiting for a friend and her little boy for an afternoon in the garden enjoying the sunshine

pigleychez · 03/06/2010 13:45

Just had a FB message from RacquelWelsh asking me to update you all...

George was Born 6.20 this morning in hospital due to lack of progress at MLU, cord was wrapped 3 times around his neck and was back to back.
George weighed 7lb 9oz. Managed on gas and air but then had 3rd degree tear so into theatre to be repaired with an epidural. . Am fine now, just knackered. Hopefully home 2mr.

Congratulations ! Hope your home soon.

cupcakefairy · 03/06/2010 13:54

Fantastic news racquel! Welcome George How scary the cord was wrapped round 3 times though Am v encouraged that she managed on gas and air with back to back baby as that's what I've been told mine is (though different medical professionals seem to disagree!)

Seems I'm the only overduey posting today...I'm gonna be the last one!! Has anyone heard from suey, yorky or any of our other more regular posters who are still on the list?

Will put racquel in now.

busy day here as DD didn't go to nursery because she wasnt feeling 100% so have had the three children all day long, DS (2) is having a nap and DD2 (is looking like she's stirring and DD1 is drawing so I have possibly 5 minutes to myself! Its a lovely day but when DD and DS went out in the garden they were squabbling so much I brought them in for an ice lolly! Think we are all tired as DS has been up with his teeth in the night and DD not feeling great etc.

Good luck ALI

Congratulations Racquel

Gils I have heard of cluster feeding but IMHO i think your little one is using you as a dummy. Either that of the latch isn't as good as it could be meaning the baby isnt getting a full tummy as quickly as they should be. Like Hollyoaks I pop my wee finger in DD2's mouth if she has not long had a feed and if it doesnt settle her I offer another feed. DD2 also wants to feed constantly when she has wind and the way I am finding best to bring hers up is to walk her up and down stairs.

Sorry got to dash!

pamelat · 03/06/2010 14:43

congrats racquel lovely name, we used george as middle name after my grandad

good luck gils and cupcake

my day today is 100 hundred times better, feeding three or two hourly and content between, god knows what happened before, grpwth spurt?

he put 11oz on so is clearly greedy

am going to make 10pm feed formula but stick out rest for a bit.

one handed feeding typing again

booboomonster · 03/06/2010 15:25

Just a quickie to say Congratulations Raquel! Glad it all went well, though cord round neck three times sounds scarey!

Cupcake - glad things still looking healthy in there. Hope the 1cm dilated means something and it starts soooooon.

Sorry to hear about all those having trouble breastfeeding. I found it so hard to begin with but once it settled down, it was a breeze. I think that took about a month or two though. But, definitely also agree with happy mummy = happy baby, so hope no one is beating themselves up about stopping!

I am visiting my Mum and Dad today - an hour or so from London, as DH is off and I thought if something happens, well, let it! But so far, nothing... don't even feel any twinges anymore.

homebirthmummy4 · 03/06/2010 15:36

congratulations racquel. enjoy your new baby!
cupcake i am still here too 40+14 some backache and twinges during the past 24 hours but nothing regular. going for monitoring in a few hours. not looking forward to that as i am anxious that they will want to talk about induction (although at sweep yesterday mw said everything was favourable for ARM so no real need for drugs AND i would still be ok to use mlu and pool as they now have a high risk birthing pool(have high bmi after medication last year)). i was planning on taking this baby to my local home birth support group's monthly meeting on sunday to talk about our experience but .
how many people here are still waiting to deliver now? cant be more than a handful surely.

TomlinTowers · 03/06/2010 20:37

Hi all

One handed typing so apols in advance for typos!

Congrats Racquel sounds a bit hairy but all's well that ends well! Good luck Ali - sounds promising.

Stick with it cupcake, booboo and homebirth - not long now. I had induction (from ruptured membranes) with DS1 and was mobile throughout and altho I needed forceps to help deliver DS1 that was cos he had cord round neck so would have needed help anyway even if "natural" birth. Best of luck!

Everything here going well - had mega organised morning for some reason, got up at 6am after feeding DD since 5, washed hair, got DS and DD dressed and fed, DD went to sleep, I did all housework type jobs and we were in garden playing by 8.30. Couldn't believe it - no idea how I managed it!

DD has been sleep monster today - not sure what type of night I am going to have! currently in middle of cluster feeding session - joy.

DS has been nightmare today - shouting, trying to hit me, squeezing DD really hard on purpose where has my lovely little boy gone?! it is just a phase.....

Sympathies to all struggling with bf - it is really difficult sometimes and even worse when you feel it should all just happen naturally. I am firmly of opinion that the most importnt thing is to feed your baby, and everything else comes a distant second. I FF DS and (despite post above!) he is [usually] a happy contented little boy, no eczema, no asthma, no allergies - all the things that I worried abt with FF. I learnt so quickly that both sides use propaganda to support their arguments, and you just have to go with what works for your baby.

need to change boobs, so that's it! can't type left handed!

memorylapse · 03/06/2010 21:26

congrats Raquel..very scary about the cord..my DS 2 was born with the cord round his neck 3 times too..

to all those finding that their babies are having a feeding frenzy in the evenings..its normal as by doing this they stimulate your breasts to produce more milk thus preparing the supply for the next day..the worst one for this was my DS2, but it eased off at about 12 weeks...I found that I would be attached to him from 5pm till 10 pm..thank fully DH was happy to cook tea!

siblings..jealousy is normal..the youngest has been effectively replaced and in their eyes mum now spends all her time with this new challenger for mums affections..therefore naughty behavior ensues..to get the attention of mum...and quite often they feel resentment towards the new baby..hence pinching etc
my dd is nearly 6 but is showing clear signs of being jealous..she is playing up and refusing to do as shes told..its really hard because Olivia is so clingy..but sometimes I have to just put her down and give dd some atention..

Ds2 is dealing really well with dd3s arrival..hes entranced by her...obviously with his autism..he doesnt deal well with her crying and gets very panicky..but weve explained that dd cant talk yet so thats just her way of telling us what she wants

had a rough few days with an ongoing health problem and not feeling first rate but will not bore you with the details..

to those very overdue ladies..I cant beleive how patient you have been!..I have only ever gone a week overdue and that was bad enough!

Hi All, sorry not been around much, have a very hungry LO so any quite time i'm trying to catch up on ZZZ's!

hollyoaks - so sorry to hear you have had such a worrying time

mustbemad - good for you getting over mastitis and other family ailments! Hope your DH father ok?

mummymunchkins - wow! what an entrance!!!

alle - well done keeping going with BFing. i had same pain and bleeding, dreaded every feed and cried i have been using nipple shields n lansinoh cream which has helped so much

Sassles - all sounds very stressful. Glad you are recovering and all going well now

Firstbump - wishing you a speedy recovery

Gils & 30ish - can totally sympathise re BF, Rian constantly wanting fed, falls asleep and then wakes for more food if i try to put him down. Nights re the hardest trying not to fall asleep whilst feeding, find lying down and feeding helps. I've also been finding i get restless legs when tired so finding nighttime feeds uncomfortable. I agree with the others don't feel pressured into BF - my health visitor said same thing to me and said its most important that your both happy.

DP went back to work today, felt quite teary, was enjoying time just the 3 of us and felt sorry for him having to go back to work. Have his mum staying to help out due to me having a CS, she is a godsend but feel bad getting waited on hand and foot!

Anyone else still feeling weepy? I thought it was only baby blues around day 3?

Does anyone have any advice re when to express? i would like to express so DP can feed Rian with a bottle in the evening but worried i wont have any left if he wakes for a feed soon after. I expressed the other night and only managed 60mls/2flozs with both boobs combined - doesn't seem very much and Rian needed more once he had finished bottle.

Totally feel for all of you over due mummies, good luck to those with things starting and all others waiting - wont be long now

Quick message from me, Jacob v unsettled.

Raquel - congratulations

Hope the end is in sight for the other overdueys, moggmum/homebirthmum/alimouse/cupcake

Nighttimes not too bad here once he finally settles he wakes once or twice feed and back to sleep, mornings he sleeps great, late afternoon/evenings hard work. He's got that newborn hormone rash thing now though, looks like acne, DD3 had it really bad too.

I'm feeling so rough, as well as all the other stuff DP and I had a huge row last night and being a useless man has gone to work today and not come back yet, probably out with his mate but this makes me even more angry, DD1 nearly killed herself by hanging out an upstairs window (neighbour told me) next door neighbours not happy with extension plans and are complaining to council, argh! Sorry rant over.

Hope everyone else enjoying the sun with their babies

Hi all - quick me post before another mammoth feeding frenzy - Molly usually unsettled from now until about 2am. Went into work today - big business meeting. I know it's crazy at 10 days after delivery but felt up to it and DH brought me there and back, Molly came too and I fed her while there. Everyone was lovely and all cooing over her. Couldn't have done this after either of the others but it is going really well and it's also the nicest place I've ever worked. Tired and a bit teary tonight. Bit overwhelmed as love Molls so much and terrified of something happening to her. We're co sleeping as we did with DD1 but I'm so much more scared of something going wrong. She's so precious to me. Will post tomorrow re breast feeding survival tips but agree with others that this is totally up to each Mum and no one can decide for us what works for us. Sleep well and excitedly waiting for word from overdue brigade.

yay, a bit of fb stalking tells me moggmum has had a delivery a boy it seems...

Hi all. Been up with pains since 3ish, but they aren't that bad so far. Have just called parents to come over to look after DD but slightly worried it's a false alarm. I had a false labour the night before last time which lasted a couple of hours, but so far this does seem different. Otherwise I am booked into hospital for a sweep at 11am today. You would think I would know second time around - did everyone find labour the same on subsequent times?

Anyway, hope everyones well and for news from Ali. And, congratulations Mogg! Hurrah! Look forward to hearing about it.
