New thread to welcome some more new babies! Let's have a flurry this weekend please!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
KaffaCakes · 21/05/2010 20:27

Hi all,

Just a quick one will catch up on the thread in the next couple of days.

I had a little boy, Albert Stanley yesterday morning at 1.09am, weighing in at 7lb, 8.5oz. He was a forceps delivery after pooing inside me and heart rate kept dipping dramatically, 18 hour labour so not oo shabby at all! Very sore and swollen but Albie is feeding very well and I am healing quickly. Will update with the birth story fully later.

Hollyoaks · 21/05/2010 20:31

Wow, new thread and already onto page 2!

Rachel - congratulations, what a weight. Gas and air ran out , glad its piped in at the hospital, I would have lost it at that point. Well done

Morph - nice to hear from you too, congratulations.

Pamelat - sounds like the baby blues to me, I'm sure it will get better once you settle into a routine and start to get a bit more sleep.

Hope all the newborns and pg ladies are coping in this heat. I had a walk to the shops with dd today and have burnt my neck, chest and arms. On the plus side at least I know dd can make the 2 mile round trip to the weighing clinic we'll be attending when lo arrives without her buggy. Just have to leave at least half an hour in advance . Fingers crossed all the exercise brings on labour tonight.

sweetkitty · 21/05/2010 20:34

kaffacakes - wow congratulations lovely names too cannot believe how thick and fast the babies are coming now and mine is now a whopping 16 days old already

Had a rotten afternoon with him he was up for 4 hours gurning and crying, like pamelat though he is now sleeping and the world seems better.

brightredballoon · 21/05/2010 22:37

Pamelat I have also read about 4/5/6 days postnatally being some of the toughest - hormones reaching a peak, tiredness really settling in, stitches beginning to tighten etc. Vent as much as you like on here, I am sure we are/were all going through similar and it will be great to have the support for one another.

Hows everyone bearing up in this heat? It took us by surprise, although touch wood wee DD2 is the only one who hasn't been bothered by it - DD1 (4) and DS (2) were up and down for over an hour before they went to sleep tonight.

I've been having a few slight problems with my healing - had some swabs taken to check for infection but all was clear so it confirms there are some internal stitches that are taking a bit longer to dissolve than the others causing some pulling and soreness and the occasion gush of (old) blood. Sorry if that was all too much information, the only reason I mention it is incase anyone else who had/has a section has similar if it helps them to know it happened to someone else. I am still feeling really good though and now am lifting DS (he weighs a tonne) as i have no choice really but I am not walking round carrying him on my hip or anything.

So, its the weekend ladies, more new arrivals I hope

Hobnobfanatic · 22/05/2010 11:51

Pamelat - I know what you mean, I haven't slept for weeks and am trying to juggle everything. This morning I just burst into tears, trying to get everything done at once and haven't been able to stop! Feel so stupid and guilty...

The heat has thrown me. Don't know what to dress LO in. I'm used to winter babies - not summer ones. What is everyone else putting on their newborns?

itshappenedagain · 22/05/2010 12:34

hello ladies! glad to see that we have sucessfully managed to fill yet another thread!

just had a quick flick through, as have had a stream of visitors, i think i may hold the world record for the largest amount of people to visit a newborn in a week. im very blessed.

pamelat i hope you feel better today, i had the crying fit on day 4 after feeling fab, luckly managed to last until the end of the day when DS was in bed, but remember being the same with him as i looked at a toy i had bought for him and cried for over an hour...no idea why, at least this time it was because i had spoken to LOs dad...he got crying and profanities! hopefully sleep will make things better for you.

hobnob- i was the same...as house is nice and cool, then did school run, and was sweltering, so i have just been putting her in a vest and when it goes cooler in a sleepsuit...im also used to an october baby.

hollyoaks hope the walk starts thigs off...im sure that is why i went so suddenly, dispite midwifes prediction.

well florence is 8 days old, the sun is shining and we have been going to the park with Ds after school for a few days now. feel much better than i did after having Ds long may it last, and she has gained 10oz in 4 days, so feeding going well thankfully after a 3oz drop on day 3.

anyway im off to put out yet more washing...forgot just how much they produce. and go out and buy some clothes i can fit in to enjoy the sun!

take care all and hope to see more anouncements soon.

sweetkitty · 22/05/2010 13:33

Oh yes I remember the 4-5 day low as well, I didn't actually want to leave the house ever again, just wanted to stay indoors with DP and the DC. Was terrified of DP going back to work.

I have Jacob in a romper suit today short sleeves and no feet and no vest. He slept in a vest only last night as well. He did his usual wake up at 4am and not go back to sleep again thing so DP took him downstairs at 6am to give me an hour in bed, so so tired though.

Will be back later with personals must eat whilst he is asleep x

newmomma · 22/05/2010 16:06

Anyone heard from madcatsazz today??

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 22/05/2010 16:21

newmomma, madcatsazz posted on the overdue thread last night at nearly 1am, nothing happening at that point, poor thing must be incredibly fed up.

Sorry to hear about all the baby blues, it will pass in a day or two, just treat it like PMT and let your other halves know what's going on as most of them have never heard of hormone dips etc

Feeling really sad today that I'm 40+8 and nothing's happening. It's a beautiful day outside but I just want to cry and sleep and eat lots of chocolate. I've lost faith that my body will do this alone. Don't want induction so it looks like I'm set for a lot of arguing with the hospital next week, and I'm just too tired and miserable for it.

slipperthief · 22/05/2010 16:36

Just a week after the event but I'll add us on too... Daniel Henry, born last Saturday three days overdue, 8lbs 4oz. He's lovely!

Congratulations everyone so far and hope it all goes well for everyone else, and soon for anyone overdue, three days was quite enough for me, let alone 40+8.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana you poor thing. I feel the same and I'm not even due yet. I felt very despodant when the sun came out yesterday and I just couldn't get comfortable sitting in the garden. Felt really trapped in my own body - horrible.

I had my first boy as overdue as you in a heat wave in mid august, which was hell. the day I went into labour an old man overtook me walking up the hill with a zimmer frame...I wanted to beat him to death with it

I'm going to refuse an induction if it comes to it too. I just think mine come along when they are good and ready - had DS1 really late and DS2 early but went into labour naturally both times. I'm a VBAC (c section 11 years ago) so I just want to limit any intervention as I know it'll reduce my chances of doing it naturally again.

Please do post any news of how the hospital take your not wanting an induction, I'd like to know how it goes. Best of luck and stand firm! Don't let the heat and the exhaustion wear you down if you know it's what you want.

mollybob · 22/05/2010 18:33

Hi all - happy due date to me. No sign of babe but knew there wouldn't be. So sorry you're struggling James. Some of us just make it so comfy inside our babes don't want to leave. I've had two late ones before so have resigned myself to a different due date of June 5th. For you - you will be definitely not still be pregnant next weekend. And an induction is ok really. Had one for DS and it's an easier process once your body has done it before and if you are induced you'll definitely be in the right place to get your epidural. Some studies of women of Celtic extraction with no complications show an average pregnancy length of 40+8 so there clearly is nothing wrong with us! Xxx

Congrats to more new babies. I'm feeling better but not completely well after diarrhoea bug. And am officially the grumpiest woman in Ireland today

MoggMum · 22/05/2010 18:34

Congrats Kaffa & slipper

James I empathise with you as I'm 40+6 today & really don't want an induction either. Going to Hosp tomorrow morning for sweep which i'm not sure about - have you had one ??

Ali will let you know what they say too re refusing induction. How late were you with DS1?

Hands & feet are swollen today & generally feeling fed up despite the lovely sunshine

Hope all the new Mums are getting through the hormonal ups & downs, managing to snatch some sleep and healing well

wibblela · 22/05/2010 18:43

Hi all,

Sorry I haven't done any more posts and that this is a quick one, but kind of have my hands full - DH is only just recovering from complete exhaustion. Friends have rallied around us (no family nearby) and God has been really good. A friend from church has organised food drops, another friend has been doing errands for us, someone else came in to do the housework and someone else has been coming in of an evening to let DH and I sleep - it has been such a blessing (c:

Have realised that didn't put DD's name on my last post - she's called Refaella. It means "God Heals". I was told at 19 that I would never be able to have children and then in 2008 was told that for there even to be medical intervention in conception I would have to have a gastric bypass. Last year I told my Prof that I had decided not to have a gastric bypass, and I would let God do his stuff - kind of put God on the spot!!! However, the arrival of DD has proved that He was worthy of the challenge

I hope I haven't offended anyone with this tale - I guess my beliefs are quite important to me, and I am even more aware of God's goodness everytime I look at DD.

I'll update the list -

Haven't read all the entries yet - just noticed 11lbs 4oz with no real pain relief!!! Well done rachel!!!

Congrats to all new mummies, and come on all the other babies in waiting! We are waiting to hear about you all

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 22/05/2010 19:25

No, I haven't had a sweep (yet) I hate the thought of it, seems a bit like someone else picking your nose for you However I've been told that it's a lot nicer than induction so I'm trying to talk myself round.

I even looked up whether you could perform your own sweep (working on the premise than given the choice surely it's more pleasant to pick your own nose than let someone else do it) - these may be the ramblings of an overdue crazy woman! lol

AnAngelWithin · 22/05/2010 20:25

i know what you mean james. I've never had to have a sweep but I have the feeling that this time I will need one!! I asked about it last week and the midwife said they don't do a sweeo til you are 41 weeks...which means half term week with all 4 kids in tow....groan...nightmare.... wonder if i can convince her to try this monday (my due date) I don't think baby is planning on coming any time soon. Probably decided its too warm to put in an appearance haha.

Have really struggled today with 4 hot and grumpy kids stuck in the house DH is working til 10.30. I have just finished hoovering and tidying up though, the kids are in bed, sat down AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND............ MIL just text to say shes coming round to keep me company...honestly, you would think I was totally bloody useless. Groan.

Congrats to all who've popped, I better go get the lettle on now I suppose. Sigh.

Carikube · 22/05/2010 21:10

Quick me post - Alice Jane born Fri May 21st 2.17am weighing 8lbs 5oz. Will post birth story later; retained placenta meant gen anaesthetic and blood transfusion but we're home now...

pamelat · 22/05/2010 21:23

Congrats Carikube, saw your facebook entry. I don't know much about retained placentas but it sounds unpleasant and scary, glad you are ok.

Hope the pregnant ones are ok in this heat.

Alex is really struggling in it. He has fed hourly but been agitated and hardly slept all day, until about 630pm when he submitted to sleep (and it had cooled down a little).

Also he has done about 8 poos today, is this normal?! I have no idea but it seems a lot, will google it

Midwife "forgot" to come for 5 day check so I eventually called her and she came over early evening. She has advised me to give him a dummy BRB she says he is very sucky and has only lost 3 ounces so its either dummy or complete exhaustion for me.

memorylapse · 22/05/2010 21:38

Just seen on facebook Gils had her little girl yesterday

weve had a bit of a crap day today...very tired and dd very fretful due to the heat..so feeding every half hoyr as shes obviously thirsty..so feel a bit hammered..plus DD2 needed taking to parties today which was stressful with upset DD3 etc...she has finally fallen asleep on my chest...

Congrats Carikube and slipperthief

ande · 22/05/2010 21:52

Congratulations on your new arrivals wibblela and Carikube!

I had a couple of hours of cx about 8mins apart yesturday evening, then tailed off... The odd twinge or five this evening... Never had all this pre labour melarky before.

Take good care everybody and have a peaceful (if possible!) night.

Gils · 22/05/2010 21:59

Hi all, not read through posts yet but congrats for all new arrivals.

11lb wow!!!!

As ML has said Melissa Anne was born yesterday at 0338 weighing 8lb10.5.

Went in to be induced on 20th, no beds then went in at lunchtime and was taken downstairs at 1am to be induced.

Was already 6cm so decided to break my waters and hook me up to hormone drip. When they broke waters went back to 4cm. Contractions kicked in none stop but when I was examined baby was coming out with hand at head so possibility would need section. Hated being induced. Between being hooked up to drip and attached to heart monitor throughout I was never able to get into a position I felt comfortable. Was offered gas and air but it made me very faint. Was examined and was only at 6cm but very thin cervix. Was very demorilised because felt I couldn't go any further without other pain relief wish didn't want. Felt sudden urges to push which shocked midwife and within 15 mins she was born. Body was in complete shock from rapid birth.

Got out later that day once they found our blood results! Couldn't get Melissa to latch on properly but feeding well now.

Actually feeding is none stop. When I was in hospital it was every 3-4 hours for half hour now its 2hour stints non stop. She feed for 2 and half during night and two 2 hour sessins today!! When babies root and chomp at this age is it always for food or can she just be looking for a suckle?? She certainly hasn't been sick from over feeding. Looking forward to milk coming in!!!

Hollyoaks · 22/05/2010 22:28

Congratulations Gils, Slipper and Carikube Lovely names Well done.

James - really feel for you, it's awful in this heat anyway without being overdue. No words of wisdom unfortunately as I'm pretty fed up too and nothing happening here. Looks like I'll be here at least until my edd which is still a week on Monday.

Feel for the newborns too, must be hard for them to get comfortable.

Well, I took inspiration from Pigley and took advantage of the 15% discount on at B&Q at the moment and bought dd a small playhouse for the garden. It's not as big as Pigley's but very cute and great storage for her garden toys. So, hopefully a day of painting in the garden will kick things off tonight.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend.

brightredballoon · 22/05/2010 22:59

Caribuke, Gils, Wibblela congratulations on your new arrivals. Hope you are all recovering well.

Gils at this stage I would let your DD suckle for as long as she wants, the more she does it the sooner your milk will come in and that will satisfy her more and she is also still learning this new skill so all this practice should make her a pro really quickly! Have you tried feeding her lying down? I find this really relaxing - you can do it in bed or on the sofa and is great for helping engorged boobs when your milk does come in as it help drain the boob from a different angle.

pamelat interesting what your MW said, just shows your little one is really suckly. Hope you are getting a bit of rest now.

SK how are you doing? Finally the ducks returned to our local pond so haven't ventured to Strathaclyde park yet, however once all settled down yes would be great to venture over and perhaps meet for a cuppa? (if they have a cafe?!).

Hobnob I feel the same as my two other children are winter births, today DD2 was was in a babygro and a summer hat but she was in the pram which is really open. She seemed happy enough. I have one of those Bowron sheepskins and am finding it really useful for using in her car seat and then in the pram (ours is a double pram so not as comfy as the posh ones with mattress etc).

Ali hope you get another VBAC, is that just 1 cs you have had then?

James, they do say try and take your mind off it and then you will ping into action naturally, easier said than done obviously and I hope you go soon. I have heard of people getting their other halves to do a home sweep , nothing ventured, nothing gained I spose!

Exhausted today running errands this morning and then spending all afternoon at the park/swings with the 3 DCs, thankfully DH was with us - I am a bit daunted by the idea of doing it alone (DD1 is 4yrs, DS2 yrs and DD2 newborn!) think thats when the sling will come in useful.

Talking of slings, I have breastfed DD2 in the coorie sling a few times now which has been brilliant as means I have been able to do it on the go when we have been in the shops, will be interesting to see if I can feed in my Mei Tei too (havent got it yet).

schipo · 22/05/2010 23:02

Want to quickly add my congratulations to Morph2 for Jacob Anthony, Kaffacakes on Albert Stanley, and Slipperthief for Daniel Henry - boys are catching up a bit - and to Carikube and Gils on their girls. Great to hear all these happy announcements. Hope you enjoy the early days as much as possible.

Wibblela - lovely story about Rafaella (and lovely name). It's always nice when people prove medical science wrong.

James, I'm feeling your frustration. After another false alarm last night (odd stitch-like cramps below bump) I've been gardening all day. Digging and planting about 50 seedlings... You had me googling diy sweeps too - but it doesn't look good to me.

Worries me to hear that these newborns aren't happy in the heat. I thought summer babies would enjoy it.

Also meant to say hello to Ande - it's good to see you on this thread

Congratulations on the new arrivals, Gils and Slipperthief - love both the names Melissa and Daniel, very sweet. Very jealous of carikube as my due date buddy Welcome to little Alice Jane, sorry things went a bit tit shaped after the delivery, hope you're recovering well.

Wibblela, the doctors love to think being overweight stops you from doing everything, I would be prime material for gastric band surgery but we conceived this baby on literally the first attempt, had bfp exactly 14 days after dtd. Some things - and babies - are just meant to be!

Schipo, yeah diy sweeps don't sound like a very good idea, nor does letting dp fumble around down there, not that he'd want to obviously! but (tmi!) I did scrub my hands and have a feel around up there to see if I could just tell what was going on, and it has cheered me up a bit because I remember the mw the other day saying my cervix was completely closed and fairly high up. Yesterday when I felt it it was still a bit hard to reach, and closed. Today it was a bit easier to reach, and if I'm not mistaken felt about 1cm dilated. Obviously this doesn't mean labour is imminent or anything but it suggests maybe things are slowly progressing, so it has made me a bit more hopeful that she'll be here in a few days without needing induction. Fingers crossed anyway!
