New thread to welcome some more new babies! Let's have a flurry this weekend please!

rachelfruitloop · 06/06/2010 09:29

Hormonalmum sorry to hear that you're struggling with the BF! I suspect that a lot of us are still adjusting to life with the new little ones, it has gone quiet here!!

I wonder if that's all the babies born then? Can't wait to hear from Cupcakefairy and Homebirthmummy4, hope all went well/is going well for you. Were they the last 2 left?

I have lots I'd like to comment on but will have to wait and see if I get more than a moment alone with the computer later!

memorylapse · 06/06/2010 10:21

just a quick post..Im afraid life is so hectic..but saying that I feel that we are getting into a routine now and slowly the house isnt quite revolving around DD3..iykwim

as I type she is merrily kicking away on her activity mat, gurgling away..

she now feeds, 9pm..then goes through to about 2 am..wakes again about 5.30..then sleeps until about 7.30-8..when she wakes at 8..shes not hungry especially..she just wants to "get up"..when I do to pick her up..Im greeted by much cooing and smiling..its lovely

homebirthmummy4 · 06/06/2010 17:57

hi all, just to update you.
i am now 40+17 and having to go in to be monitored on a daily basis, i am fed up and very tired but baby is healthy, placenta is healthy so i am able to continue with being pregnant for now. had a cervical assessment this morning, i am 4-5cm dilated, (have been having niggly contractions on and off for days but so far nothing is taking me over into full blown labour) and have a bishops score of 9 so its all very imminent. older children back at school tomorrow so maybe then i will be relaxed enough to deliver. hope you are doing ok cupcake.
congratulations to those who have delivered since my last post, i am but .
will keep you all posted, lots of love.

TinyVeins · 06/06/2010 18:04

Bit late I realise but Verity Ruth Ellen arrived at 00.41 on 19th May 6lbs 2 oz.

AliMouse · 06/06/2010 18:25

Good luck homebirthmummy4 - and well done on keeping sane and sticking with it. You know it'll be worth it in the end!

Caleb is now 3 days old and is such a little sweetheart! He's sleeping with us which is lovely and last night fed at midnight then slept until 4 woke for a feed then slept again until 6.30am. He is so laid back and only really cries when we clean his bottom.

My milk came in last night and my bust grew 2 inches overnight. We bumped into a family friend in tesco and he said 'you're looking well' to my chest. Men. Not feeling hormonal as yet - just still really chilled and happy and completely smitten - wasn't expecting it as he wasn't planned and was expecting quite the reverse.

My DS2 has named the baby Bibble, so that's what we are calling him!

Getting him registered today and tempted to go for an outlandish 3rd name - any suggestions?!

Sassles · 06/06/2010 19:31

Alimouse - love the you're looking well comment!

My wee Sam is rather restless. Was awake yesterday from 6pm till 2.30am feeding loads in between Daddy trying to nod him off. Nipples rather sore by hour 7! Was then awake again at 5am for 20 min feed then 7.30am for another. Been awake almost all day since about 2pm and still going. Feeding a lot in between falling asleep at breast then for about 10 mins when put in moses basket then wanting to feed again. He's had a lot of alert time in between so not constant feeding, but much more than normal.

I'm pretty sure he is latched on properly and see milk on cheek/chin when he comes off. I can also hear the liquid gurgling down to his stomach. Trying to keep him awake to feed and burp him when he starts to fall asleep and put him on the other breast for a bit, but nothing seeming to work.

Is this a growth spurt or anyone got any suggestions? Daddy walking him about loads and trying white noise, dark room, quiet for night feeds, shushing sounds.

I'm hoping he will sleep tonight if he has been up all day, but worried I will have a very overtired and grumpy baby most of the night!

pigleychez · 06/06/2010 20:57

Thanks for the sling advice ladies. Ive got an almost new Babasling coming from Ebay to try out. If i dont like it or dont use it for long then will sell it on again. I have a babybjorn that i can use when shes older, heavier and stronger. We used the Bjorn for DD1 but not till she was older as being PFB I didnt have to worry about being hands free for a toddler!
Been researching (Whole new world!) the different slings and the wraps look too fiddly for short trips and worry about the long ends being too long as im a short arse.

Booboo- congratulations! being born in her sack is supposed to be very lucky!

Ali- although I had vontouse with Lucy I feel quite proud of having no pain relief untill the vontouse bit.. especially after having the lot with DD1.
Loving the name Bibble

Hollyoaks- yes Lucys stump bled abit too.

Homebirth- I cant believe your still waiting! 40+14 was long enough for me with DD1 hats off to you!

Tinyviens- Congratulations

Sassles- Lucy is another one for falling asleep mid feed.. tis most annoying.

Picked up my new glasses yesterday so trying to get used to wearing them. Lucy is good, sleeping lots when its hot though, bless her. Enjoyed a nice bath with both my little girls tonight

DH is back to work tomorrow after 3 weeks off its going to be a shock to the system for us all.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 06/06/2010 22:13

Congratulations booboo and Alimouse. Great names, and two wonderful-sounding birth experiences, fantastic!

First1 - Sounds like you've had a stressful week. I hope Chloe's making a good recovery now. I can sympathise on the long wait to register her. The first appointment we could get was for 4 weeks after Felix's birth. It's because our local council's crap. All the rest of my nct group come under the neighbouring council, and got given appointments within 2-3 days! As for the bleeding, well mine was heavy for 1 week, lighter in the 2nd week and very light in the 3rd, almost not noticeable. Into the 4th week now and it's negligible, but not completely gone. I had a 2nd degree tear and also episiotomy, the pain when sitting went after about 10 days for me. I echo what SK says about lavender and tea-tree oil baths, it really helped me!

Carikube - sorry to hear about your cousin.

tomlin and Carikube - I think you can take the mini-pill while breastfeeding, but not the combined pill. It's meant to be slightly less effective, but I was on the mini-pill for 4 years before conceiving Felix and never had any reliability issues with it! The other advantage to the mini-pill, if you want to go for DC3 in the not-too-distant future, is that your fertility is supposedly very high immediately after coming off the mini-pill.

Haven't been on here for a couple of days, as we've been down to my parents' for the weekend. Felix was very well-behaved and slept really well in his car seat on the way there and back. Last night he only woke up once for a feed at 2.40. Had fed him at 10.30 before we went to bed, then after the 2.40 feed he slept through until 6.50!

Was convinced I'd see a birth announcement from Cupcake when I logged on this evening. Fingers crossed that no news means an announcement's imminent!

mollycuddles · 06/06/2010 22:35

Hi Sassles - had exactly the same for 24hrs with Molly until late last night but she's back to normal today so must have been a growth spurt. Health visitor coming tomorrow so we'll see re her weight.

Hormonalmum - sorry you're struggling with the feeding - saw your thread in breast/bottle feeding and seems you're doing fab. I couldn't get going at all with DS and took ages with DD1 but with Molly it has been a lot easier. Seems so much the luck of the draw so not your fault. The only thing I would say is that my latch isn't always the same and I often don't notice until the feed is nearly finished as my let down is quite painful. I try to check it every time but I know sometimes I'm too knackered/lazy. Would second advice about slings so you can get on with stuff whenever possible - so hard with other wee ones. And as memorylapse said it's easier to express while feeding as it makes the most of the let down. With DD1 I took months before I got a decent let down while expressing. I haven't tried yet with Molls.

Congrats tinyvein. Good luck homebirthmummy and cupcake has gone quiet so fingers crossed.

Bleeding nearly stopped here at 13 days. Second advice re lavendar and especially tea tree. Marvellous stuff.

I have a sabe sling which is lovely but can't feed in it. A fairly cheap one though although bought a boring green colour as DH wanted a unisex sling and he now says he won't use it anyway.

DD1 is a bit better but still huffy and I'm all anxious and baby bluesy which is a pain.

TomlinTowers · 06/06/2010 22:36

Hi All

Booboo - congrats on your arrival - I have never heard of a baby being born in their sac before so it must be lucky!

Also many congrats to Tinyveins!

Ali - I felt really proud at having delivered DD1 without pain relief as well, and I have found the recovery time much shorter that with DS1 when I had epidural and forceps. Although we had no choice with DS1 as he had cord round his neck, if we do it again I won't be so desperate for an epidural as I know I can do it without. I have no suggestions for outlandish third names though! The most exciting we get in out family is my Grandad, who was christened Rhondda (after Lord Rhondda, no idea who he is)!

Pigley - good luck tomorrow. I found the first DH-less day very tiring, but we got through it and it gets easier every day as you get used to the routine of things. I think it must be harder for the ones going back to work, knowing they are leaving you to cope. My DH rang me 6 times on the first day to check we were OK!

We have been sorting out DD1's christening today - think it is set for 8th August. We've found a lovely pub to have the reception in afterwards so just waiting for the Canon to get back to us with the dates the Church is free in August so we can match up the dates. Now comes the thorny issue of godparents...it was really easy last time because we asked the same people who had been our bridesmaid/best man at our wedding, but can't decide who to ask this time. I can foresee some loooong conversations....

DS1 is going to the seaside tomorrow on the train with Grandma and Grandad - he is so excited he has gone to bed holding his Thomas the Tank Engine flag so he is ready to wave it at the train as soon as he gets up, bless him. I have an exciting day planned of taking back some of the little outfits we got from friends to exchange them for the next size up as DD1 is so long that we won't get any wear out of the 0-3 month sizes.

Whoever posted about 7 hour feeding marathons, I feel your pain. We went out for Sunday lunch today, and she fed from 12 - 1pm, put her in the car thinking she might go to sleep, didn't sleep and was awake all the time we were eating (but not crying or fussing) then fed from 2.30 - 4.20, 5.45 - 6.45 and then 7.30 - 9.45! She is finally asleep but my poor boobs!! Hopefully she will go through to 3-ish now, to give me time to regenerate!

Looking forward to hearing from cupcake and homebirthmummy soon!

memorylapse · 06/06/2010 23:18

sorry guys Im feeling a bit hormonal but I feel a bit ignored at the moment

mollycuddles · 07/06/2010 02:13

Oh memorylapse - sorry if I have contributed to you feeling ignored. I'm struggling to keep up and reply properly as haven't got near my laptop all week so just catching a minute now and again while Molls feeds via my phone. Your post re your routine and Olivia's progress was lovely. I'm looking forward to the smiling and cooing but I don't want it yet iyswim as every minute still feels so precious to me! Olivia sounds adorable. Hope the hormonal feeling aren't too bad. I'm so bluesy and anxious - just as I was with DD1 so know it'll pass but it's not nice. Hope the rest of your clan especially DH rally around.

hollyoaks · 07/06/2010 08:44

Morning all

Thanks for the replies about bleeding cords, it still hasn't come away yet but drs say it might be stuck for another few weeks! Absolutely knackered this morning after Grace was up for three marathon feeding sessions last night! So Sassles & Tomlin I feel your pain

ML - I felt a bit like you when everyone was having their 12 week scans, I was last to have mine and by then the novelty had worn off for everyone else. Try not to let it get to you, it's not personal, we're probably all just jealous of your routine

Molly - that your bleeding has nearly stopped, thought mine was going until I soaked through to my jeans yesterday (sorry tmi).

MDM - at how well behaved Felix is for you.

Pigley - good luck on your first day alone, it's week 2 for me now and it definitely gets easier.

Hormonal - hope the bf improves, I found it impossible with dd1 and gave up after a few days so well done for sticking with it.

Tinyveins - congratulations

Alimouse - we went for our first family outing to the metro centre yesterday and everytime we passed one of their mirrored doors I couldn't help but check out my massive cleavage

Hope everyone has a good day despite the weather.

hollyoaks · 07/06/2010 08:45

Forgot to add

Homebirth - you must have the patience of a saint, hope lo arrives soon

Cupcake - hope to hear from you soon.

mollycuddles · 07/06/2010 08:49

Hollyoaks - you can wear jeans already...
Think the bleeding has stopped here earlier than before due to seriously vicious after pains but have had more than one flood in past fortnight so feel your pain too x

hollyoaks · 07/06/2010 08:52

Molly - yeah I'm like a stick, about half a stone lighter than before I got pg. Did the same with dd1 but I was heavier again before I had her. It sounds very cliche but it must be genetics and bf as my stomach went down in about three days. I think a good dose of stress and hospital food helps too though

pamelat · 07/06/2010 09:26

hi all, excuse one handed typing and no personals, have read everyones though

alex never stops feeding and had trciky week with him being unsettled in days. he 3 weeks today, until a week ago he would feed and then sleep, now he is very awake but unhappy with it. he feeds and pretty much cries for ood within 15 mins when really think he is just tired butfighting it, or maybe genuinely still hungry

normally he ok at night 10pm-2am-4am-630am ish but last night he woke at 2am and never resettled for more than 15 mins

just tired today. thinking about formula or mixed feeding but he is also windy so dont want make that worse????

Carikube · 07/06/2010 09:57

Morning all...
First day on my own but as DD1 is in nursery today then it won't be too much of a shock. DH did actually manage to get up with DD1 to give her breakfast so I just hope that he manages to keep it up for the rest of the week. TBH I found that I spent a lot of last week clearing up after DH so maybe having him back at work will actually mean less work for me

DD2 is on my knees as I type, looking very cute and sucking her thumb so memorylapse I can see where you're coming from when Olivia is cooing and smiling at you.

Hollyoaks congrats on the weight loss. I thought I was doing reaaly well (about 4 lbs lighter than when I got pg) but as I seem to have now developed the appetite of a hippo, I can't see that the weight will stay off

pigleychez · 07/06/2010 10:27

Morning all,

First day alone seems to be going ok so far. We were all up and dressed and having breakfast by 8.30 so thats a good start.
Lucy has been typically having an unsettled morning but just rediscovered the magic of the swing!! Dh got it out the loft yesterday and ive just put Lucy in it... off to sleep in minutes! Magic! Although trying to discourage DD1 trying to climb in I think might be fun!

MDM- Sounds like a fab nights sleep!

Tomlin- Sounds like your keeping busy organising the christening

ML- I think everyones abit busy at the mo to do any major personals. Dont take it personally. Im sure when our newborns have all settled into routines more then everyone will be as chatty as ever!

Hollyoaks- at self admiring your cleavage!

Pamlet- Lucy can be abit windy. We are currently trying the Dr brown bottles as they are supposed to help with wind.

Carikube- Hope today goes ok.

On weightloss and normal clothes- I gave most of my maternity clothes to a friend at the weekend. Shes been living in jeans but what with the hot weather, my maternity shorts and 3/4 lengths were most welcome!!
Ive been back to normal weight since about a week post birth but now have a big saggy and wrinkly tummy to try and get rid of. It looks horrid!

pamelat - Felix sounds quite similar to Alex at the moment in that he has gone from falling asleep during / immediately after feeding, to staying awake for a while after a feed. It's fine in the daytime, but a bit annoying at night. Fortunately he only wakes up once or twice for a feed, so it's not so bad, but it means that I'm awake for longer than I need to be after each feed, while I wait for him to fall asleep on me. He just grouches if I try to lay him in his basket, as I think he's just not that tired and wants interaction.

Have been reading with interest the breast-feeding comments and debates about when to express. Mollycuddles - what is 'let down'? I have heard the expression a few times, but am a bit unsure exactly what it is . As far as expressing goes, some days I manage more than others. Some feeds Felix will feed from both boobs, and some feeds he only wants one. On those occasions where he only has one, I'll express the other one immediately afterwards. A few times my boobs have been painfully full in the morning, and he has still been asleep, so I've expressed a bit from each boob to make it easier for him to feed when he wakes up as he struggles to latch on to overly-full boobs and ends up with milk all over his face! In summary, I haven't found the ideal time for expressing yet, just try and do it as and when possible.

ML you must be the expert on this question if you're managing to donate to the milk bank! I was thinking you must be super-organised, but after reading your last post, I see that it's a combination of being organised and Olivia being something of a dream baby! How do you do it?!

Tomlin - I had a similar morning planned to yours today. Was going to go into town to exchange some of the clothes we were given for some larger sizes, while DH spent the morning with Felix, but I didn't get the chance to express any milk yesterday, so have postponed my shopping trip to this afternoon. Didn't want to take the chance that F would wake up wanting food while home alone with DH if there was nothing to give him!

I got the baby whisperer book the other day and have started reading it. I like it so far, it seems to make sense. I'm stuck halfway through though, as haven't found time to finish reading it, so I know the general theory, but haven't read the bits on how to implement it yet! Have so far introduced an evening bath for Felix, which he seems to enjoy. Although yesterday he managed to decorate the bathroom and my trousers with poo in between me removing his nappy and putting him in the bath !

Hope everyone has a good day.

MDM the letdown is when the milk starts flowing really quickly out of your boobs and when the baby starts doing longer and larger jaw motions. When the baby is feeding from one side and the let down comes your other boob will leak as well. Some people have a painful letdown so they know when its coming (i have that) and other people dont feel it at all. If you watch Felix as he feeds you should see different things he does - a tongue flicker to stimulate the letdown and then the longer jaw motion when he is getting the fast milk.

MDM - I've just started feeling the let-down as a tingly almost sore feeling behind the nipple of the boob I'm not feeding with. I also made the mistake of taking Grace off while I took my jumper off and ended up with milk running down my belly
