Hello Everyone ,

It has been ages since I posted again, work is just too busy... I'm really sorry to read that there are work problems, I don't know how I would have managed over the last few months had my colleagues not been so supportive and helpful.

I am quite jealous of all the baby shopping that seems to be going on...we thought that we would wait until after the 20 week scan to start shopping in earnest and it's not until 7th June. Although I have two older children I didn't keep any of the stuff so we are starting from scratch. We went to John Lewis in Oxford Street for a pram demo which was really good. I thought I really liked the Quinny Buzz until I played with it, then I didn't like it so much at all. I liked iCandy Cherry apart from the seat unit which didn't seem padded enough. After that we went to M & P as I had their prams last time. We really liked the Urbo so now are looking for a shop that sells both so we can compare properly. Aside from this we have done nothing!

I'm also off work sick at the moment, well as of today. I developed a uti over the weekend and didn't realise how serious this could all be. I should have gone to casulty at the weekend to get going on anti-biotics but didn't so by this morning I was quite unwell. I feel awful that I'm taking medication while pregnant - I have been so careful about everything that I have put into my body. The problem is that they may not even be the right prescription. The doctor won't know until my results come back on Wednesday so I may have to change prescriptions then anyway. I thought that I would be fine to go back to work but the medication is making me feel really sick and lousy and with the heat as well I gave up. Apparantly if my condition worsens or I get a fever I have to go back in a hurry.

I am also worried that I don't feel the baby move regularly. I mainly have the tickly sort of movements but sometimes don't feel them for days. Last week I thought they had started in earnest but since Friday I have hardly felt anything at all. I spoke to the midwife on the phone this morning who was really dismissive and said it was too early to feel regular movement and not to worry. She said it entirely depended on where the baby was and in many positions at this stage I would feel nothing. I am worried though and don't know where else to go for reassurance. Sometimes I still don't feel sure that everything will be ok.

Anyway, hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine and bearing up in the heat. I think it is going to be cooler tomorrow, thank goodness, it's been 30 degress here today and breezeless. SB x

Cross posted with you Floozie - congratulations!!!

ILoveGregoryHouse · 24/05/2010 17:24

Nappies....

I have (takes deep breath) motherease onesize, totsbots fluffles and bamboo and towelling nappies to wear with motherease or tots bots wraps.

Then I have a selection of fuzzi-bunz, blueberry and bumgenius pocket nappies.

I have a shopping cart waiting for me at babykind with more blueberry onesize popper pocket nappies. Pink dalmatian print. Nice.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 24/05/2010 17:27

cross posted with you floozie. That's great news. Have some champers. Oh no, you can't. How about that appletise and mint cocktail someone was talking about the other day (sorry, bad memory).

Xavielli · 24/05/2010 17:30

I'm going for reusables this time (after meconium has gone) and I have to say I'm a little overwhelmed by the amount of choice. I quite like the idea of the closer 'pop-in' nappy and the bundles don't seem too ££.

Xavielli · 24/05/2010 17:32

omg, cross posted with half the thread there. floozie I am so so happy for you! must be a real weight off!

Ivytheterrible · 24/05/2010 17:39

Great news floozie so happy for you.

Right I'm just going to have to sit down and concentrate on writing a list of what I need to buy for the baby and do a shortlist for the big stuff. Am on my own all weekend as husband abroad with work so will add it to my "to do" list!

ILoveGregoryHouse · 24/05/2010 17:39

And sorry about that UTI Sam, you got any cranberry juice? And have you got probiotics?

Nymphisseeingstars · 24/05/2010 18:02

floozie what a relief, time to relax now!

samb UTIs are awful and there isn't a way round the meds have you tried cranberry capsules? Saw them recommended on here before. You're the same as me with the starting from scratch thing aren't you( think similar age gap?) everythings changed a bit, makes me feel old!!!

Thanks whoever for the car seat info

the appletiser thing was my suggestion but I got it from a bar in Glasgow. There is an appletiser taste test on here if anyone is interested.

Hermya321 · 24/05/2010 18:14

ILGH Gosh you're organized, I've only started looking at what to get. I'm tempted to book a session with a Lollipop lady, but I don't know if it's too soon to do that sort of thing yet??

SamB I have lots of movement some days and none the others, I think it is quite variable at this stage. I had a few days with some mega kicks and now it's only faint wriggles every now and again. I think it depends of where your baby is aiming it's feet as midwife says. It does have an awful lot of room to move in there. Plus we can only really feel it at the front at the mo as they're so little. So it could be kicking seven bells out of you all the time, it'll just be that it's faced towards the back or on it's head. Sorry about your UTI though, it can't help you feeling a bit worse for wear at the moment can it. I would say try not to worry too much at the mo, the chances of anything going wrong at this stage are very small. You're baby is probably having a whale of a time in there and is probably blissfully unaware that it's causing it's Mummy to worry (kind of the start of things to come really isn't it). The only thing I can really suggest is if you know someone with a doppler or can afford one, get hold of one of those for yourself.

Also you could try drinking some fizzy stuff or cold water and then go lay on the sofa for more than an hour and try not to move too much and then your baby might start prodding you. Apparently the rocking of our hips send them to sleep, thats why they're more active at night.

Great news, flooze! sam, hope your UTI clears up fast - it's never nice putting taking tablets, but it sounds like it's better than not to, so try to bear that in mind and not fret. Also, same as Hermya, I've had movement, and then felt nothing for over a week. The sonographer said my baby is chilling out at the back of me, so perhaps that is why (and also why I don't have much of a bump still at 21 weeks). Don't worry!

ILGH, thanks. I still feel overwhelmed with the choice of reusables! I've emailed the nappy lady, so hopefully she can advise for my needs.

What is an Appletiser taste test, Nymph?

I've had a productive afternoon tidying our bedroom (going to rearrange the furniture to see how we'll fit the new arrival in), and now I am off to clean the kitchen floor. Joy.

AbFabT · 24/05/2010 18:52

I was going to say putting tablets in your body or taking tablets, came out with putting taking tablets. :-/

SamanthaB123 · 24/05/2010 18:53

Thanks for the messages, apparantly cranberry juice can stop anti-biotics from working so it is only recommended at the start of a uti and before you are medicated.

Nymph I think we do have a similar gap between #2 and #3. I gave everything away years ago. I have written a list of what I need but think that the majority of purchases will be in the summer holidays when I'm off school for six weeks. I feel a bit old too, everything has moved on so much. I also keep getting odd reality checks when I muse on what life with a newborn is like. My girls are so independent we have a lifestyle that has moved on considerably. Our lives are going to change so much..!

Hermya Thank you for the reassurance about the baby movements. I don't know why I feel so worried, I really want to sit back and enjoy pregnancy but I guess working so hard is draining and causes a lot of extra angst. I think maybe I need to take more care of the baby and myself rather than everyone elses children that I teach! I had thought of getting a doppler but rather think that I would become obsessed by it so decided against it. I think I may talk to the midwife again tomorrow and explain more clearly how I am feeling.

It's much nicer outside now the breeze has picked up, might go and sit in the garden! SB

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 24/05/2010 19:13

Floozie! Hooray!!

Sam, hope the uti clears up soon. Don't feel bad taking meds, you need them and you lo won't be affected. Drink lots of water

hermya, sam, I have intermittant movement too. I think if you are being kicked towards the spine you feel it less than out to tummy button at the moment- lo can spin pretty well still doesn't stop me worrying on the very quiet days.

I love gh, your poor ds! Ninjas are tough though, he'll live to fight another day

I have had a long hot day at work, knackered now and watching dh put ds to bed from the comfort of my bed!

KSal · 24/05/2010 19:39

yay floozie - you can really start to enjoy the pregnancy now (in this heat!)

SilverSky · 24/05/2010 19:48

Sam soz about the uti. If it stings when you pee then lemon barley water does the trick. Other than that plenty of water to flush it all out.

Congrats flooze brilliant news.

After feeling a bubble now and again a couple of weeks ago i now feel zilch. Today I felt the odd twinge but I am trying not to worry til my scan. Only three sleeps to go.

This heat is pure murder. Bring on Wednesdays rain!

Anyone watch the Lost finale? Thoughts?

Only had one, oh make that two naughty things today. The tuna salad, apple and two satsumas outweigh the choc covered flapjack, dozen fruitella and full fat yog with honey. Hell, that's three things!!!

SamanthaB123 · 24/05/2010 20:06

Silversky I wouldn't worry about the food. I eat all the time. All the time. I don't seem to put on excessive weight but do have a considerable bump. When I say considerable people have been asking me when I am due and gasping when I say not for five months . I haven't been able to do up my own trousers since week 10. Very happy though, I love my pregnant shape!

Nymphisseeingstars · 24/05/2010 20:07

samb Change! Tell me about it dds are going away with their dad for half term and I'm sooo not looking forward to it but it does mean dh & I can go to the Hay festival & I've never done the adult bits there and I realised next year we'll be back taking turns again!

SamanthaB123 · 24/05/2010 20:13

Nymph My girls are away for the bank holiday weekend too and DH and I are going away to try to have a little time quietly. I don't think we really realise what is about to happen to us!

Hermya321 · 24/05/2010 20:43

My Dh just felt the baby kick for the first time ever. He had a big grin on his face and then said 'it was very cool' and then went back to watching twenty four.

Huh, well if it were different I'd wonder if something was wrong. You can't win them all can you.

SilverSky · 24/05/2010 20:51

SamB my bump is only just coming thru! My butt and thighs are becoming more curvaceous by the day!

I've never known hunger/immense desire for grub like it. I've stayed off the crisps today but anything chocolatey has been on a one way street to my tummy!!!

SilverSky · 24/05/2010 20:55

Hermya aaaaaaaaaaaaaah that's lovely and also typically male.

My Husband keeps stroking my tummy and he is immensely proud but knowing him like I do the grin that is wiped across his face is really saying " I did that" !!!!!

lilsteel1 · 24/05/2010 21:06

re baby movments.. im not sure if i can feel mine or if it is crap or muscle pain or wind lol but hopefully wednesday they can tell me what the little angel is up to... 20 week scan can not wait.

hope everyone had a great weekend and a good week ahead

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 24/05/2010 21:14

Hermya!! Ha ha aren't dp fun.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank itv4 for a little bit of Bruce parry before I go to bed yum. Better than the football!

Nymph of hay festival, have a fab time! I've only ever been when the festival isn't on, but love to books. Dh picked up a really old copy of marx's das kapital, it's his pride and joy

AbFabT · 24/05/2010 23:09

Silver, we are watching Lost now - not sure we'll finish it tonight. It's been a long old series, I hope the answers are all good!
