Here we go, pull up a deck chair, catch some rays and help yourselves to a mini eggs ice cream.

Hello mummybeth welcome to the thread!

OP posts:
Hevster · 16/04/2010 19:49

I thought I would have a sneaky look as well after RooBear recommended and if noone minds I will swop threads - too blonde to keep up with 2 threads!. Had 1st scan, 20 week is on 25th May and due 9th Oct.

ellabella2 · 16/04/2010 20:25

Hello everyone. Another one 'swapping over' from the other October thread I haven't been much good at keeping up on that one so will do my best to read up recent threads on her and get familiar with where everyone is at.

I'm a first time mum-to-be, 14+5 after getting pregnant with donor IUI fertility treatment as in a same-sex relationship. Had a private scan today (long story, but had early scan at 10 weeks due to a bleed and then was refused another proper dating scan on NHS) It was totally amazing to see little buba wriggling around, waving and turning over. We were able to ask loads of questions and they went through all the anatomy in detail explaining what we could see. I'm now on Cloud 9 Don't have a date for 20 week scan yet so will follow that up after reading the last few posts on here.

I think I might even be brave enough to put my name on the EDD list soon Have been procrastinating / feeling supersticious

Here's to everyone's pumpkins getting plump in the sunshine

lilmissmummy · 16/04/2010 20:26

Hi All and warm welcome to all the newbies, really great to have you here with us.

For those of you who havent had many symptoms dont worry because I have enough for all of you (I am keeping the side up (or down the toilet depending how you look at it ))

Really pleased to hear about more good scans and I dont feel so bad that my midwife is -rubbish- lss than efficient. I am hoping that at my booking in appointment (at 14 weeks!!) that I will feel more positive about my care.

We are hoping for a nice weekend as I have my mother and sister here for the weekend and it is my DS birthday tomorrow (9!) I am so exhausted though I will probably just sit and watch the goings on.

After writing that just realised that I havent got him a card so I suppose I better go and get one for him! Just wanted to collapse on the sofa

Speak later x

Hermya321 · 16/04/2010 20:49

Hello ellabella I remember you from my brief time on the other thread. I'm glad to hear your doing well, it's a bit silly that they refused you another scan. But nice to hear that your private one was good.

RooBear · 16/04/2010 20:58

Tyson86 · 16/04/2010 21:08

Hello to all the newbies.
I have had no morning sickness today, im now 15+2 weeks, it took long enough to give me a day off

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 16/04/2010 21:59

Hello more newbies-welcome!

I also have no pg symptoms really, other than a bump, which I can't feel any flutterings yet! Have to keep reminding myself I am actually having a baby iykwim this pg is so completely different to my last.

Lilmiss- thanks for hoarding all the pg symptoms, it's allowing me to feel great I've dug out my iron tablets too which means it's 10pm and I'm still awake lol

floozietoozie · 16/04/2010 22:08

Just back from my nuchal scan. Very good results according to sonographr. 1.05mm. Will get blood and scan combined results next Friday. Best thing was seeing a very wriggly baby in there - was it the chocolate I wonder??

Hello even more new people.

BionicEar · 16/04/2010 22:09

Hello!

Well I've been hovering for a while, but feel ready to come and join you all now!

Had my dating scan today and been given due date of 28 Oct. i am 12 weeks and 1 day today.

Was a bit nervous of joining you all as had mc last year and a scare few weeks ago with this one, but feel more confident now that I've seen the little one wiggling away at the scan!

Already have a LO aged 5yrs who is ecstatic to hear our news - various random strangers have been told today about the baby in Mummy's tummy!

Look forward to getting to know you all as the months progress with bumps growing!

Hermya321 · 16/04/2010 22:22

Hi to all the new people and congrats on the new scans!

Not keeping up tonight as I'm obsessing about Ashes to Ashes

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 16/04/2010 23:01

bionicear (and other newbies) - don't be frightened of posting, quite a few of us have had trouble with previous pgs, and a few of us have this pg- everyone needs support, through good times and bad!!

off to bed as busy day tomorrow with dh's b'day - enjoy the sunshine everyone!

AbFabT · 17/04/2010 00:22

VMum, amazing recovery on the back front!

Nymph, oh dear, you really aren't having a good time with the health service. Hope you've just had a bad start and things can only get better.

nunnie, love the waffles! (Mmm, waffles!)

Fingon, cool, another Alice! I AM quite serious about Danger as a middle name for a daughter, DH is unconvinced but says I can work on him!!!
And yes of course I will let you know which book/CD my friend has. She's very reliable for doing her background research so I trust that she's picked a good one!

I don't feel especially pregnant either!!! Glad I am not alone! My breasts are often sore and tender when I wake up, but that's about it. I do have a slight belly, but that could be blamed on the reduction of exercise. I guess we're all normal then!

Hermya, ooh, get the M&P jeans! Do they still have 30% off? I love mine, they are the comfiest jeans I've ever had. The fabric just feels different and softer and stretchier, I love them!!!

MummyBeth, snow next week? Where?! Ooh, I'd quite like some snow!

Congrats on your scan, floozie!

Big warm welcomes to the new ladies, MummyBeth, Hevster, ellabella2 and BionicEar. Loving the bigger group! Hope I haven't missed anyone!

Maybe we could do another little five questions thing for everyone, getting to know you?

e.g.

  • Vague Location
  • How did you meet your OH?
  • Tell us something about yourself that not a lot of people know
  • hobbies? ... um, any suggestions?!
SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 17/04/2010 07:36

Good idea AbfabT, I had forgotten to do a Friday Five yesterday! Decided it would be a good idea too...

Friday Five (late!!!)

How did you meet your dp?

What was the first gig you went too?

If there was one place in the whole world you could be right now where would it be?

What is the best thing about being pregnant?

Will your dh be seen changing a nappy or running a mile?!!

x

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 17/04/2010 07:40

Friday Five (late!!!)

How did you meet your dp? at school, he joined the sixth form, I stalked him until he noticed me

What was the first gig you went too? Bluetones

If there was one place in the whole world you could be right now where would it be? Right now I think I am there - its clear blue sky, I can see the sea and going to walk and possibly swim in it?!!!

What is the best thing about being pregnant? when you feel the flutters of life inside you - I can't wait, it will be any week now!

Will your dh be seen changing a nappy or running a mile?!!
He's been eally good actually, I though he would be a great dad and he has been amazing. He has noticed how I have a sixth sense re stinking exploder nappies and ask him to change those with frequency - doh!

dontstopmenow · 17/04/2010 07:54

Wow - I go away for a week and so much happens - a new thread no less!

Hello to everyone new and everyone else. Its nice that we are all getting past the first scan stage and moving on to the 20 week scan. I can't remember when mine is but will add to the list when I find it.

So sorry to hear of the sad new that has been here on the past week or so, my thoughts are with you. Also very sorry about all those whose antenatal care has been less than hoped for. Hoping things get better soon.

Off to put yet another load of washing on... blah blah blah. My life is just so exciting today! Have a good one everyone.

BackAgain · 17/04/2010 09:02

Hello

anyone out there studying whilst pregnant? I have an exam next week and am struggling to revise as feeling tired and sick all the time so just wanted to have a moan! So pleased I have decided to take the summer off so I can spend time with my DD before she starts pre-school. Though I do plan to start again in November - am I mad? will have a 3 year old and a new born - I seem to remember that babies sleep a lot so I am fantasising that I will have loads of time on my hands - think I am kidding myself! Anyway if anyone out there is studying - good luck.

Thanks for the 'getting to know you' questions:

How did you meet your dp? through a friend of a friend when we were teenagers and then through Friends Reunited when we were in our late twenties

What was the first gig you went too? Neds Atomic Dustbin in Sheffield I think

If there was one place in the whole world you could be right now where would it be? in the garden with no studying to do

What is the best thing about being pregnant? Mmmmmm might have to come back to this one when I am feeling a bit better!

Will your dh be seen changing a nappy or running a mile?!! He will change them but only as a last resort (esp if code brown) he has got better as DD has got older though

looking forward to getting to know you all

Nymphadora · 17/04/2010 09:11

How did you meet your dp? At work he was my boss

What was the first gig you went too?Oasis at Knebworth

If there was one place in the whole world you could be right now where would it be?New York

What is the best thing about being pregnant?Getting a baby!

Will your dh be seen changing a nappy or running a mile? Nappies, he is no stranger to them

MummyBeth · 17/04/2010 09:42

How did you meet your dp? On holiday - although nothing romantic happened until 5 years later!

What was the first gig you went too? Ash, Belfast

If there was one place in the whole world you could be right now where would it be? My sofa with DH

What is the best thing about being pregnant? Patting my belly and talking to the bump. It's not possible to love somthing this much when it's not even out yet!

Will your dh be seen changing a nappy or running a mile? He'll do the nappies - he's been amazing during the MS and I know he wants to get stuck in.

Funny story - Last night our cat wasn't well (both ends!) and I obviously couldn't do anything - had to keep myself safe! - So poor hubby was cleaning up sick and poo and wiping the kitty's bottom and feet to prevent spreading mess! It was so funny! not for the cat but a vision of things to come perhaps?

xxx

BionicEar · 17/04/2010 09:42

Hello! Thank you for the lovely welcome into the group.

And now for answering the questions...

How did you meet your dp?
I 1st laid eyes on him at local church, took a few years of just brief hellos, fluttering eyelids and waiting for him to be single before we got together!

What was the first gig you went too?
Delirious.

If there was one place in the whole world you could be right now where would it be?
Oooh I don't know, am quite happy where I am!

What is the best thing about being pregnant?
Knowing there will be a gorgeous baby to cuddle and get to know at the end!

Will your dh be seen changing a nappy or running a mile?!!
He's very good at doing it, once he remembers not to dawdle as they wee on him otherwise!

VMumToBe · 17/04/2010 09:50

Hee hee what lovely questions!!

How did you meet your dp? Ahem, well I was chief bridesmaid on a hen do, and he was the best man on a stag do, in Jongleurs in Bristol. Classy!!

What was the first gig you went too? Coldplay in our students union (I was at uni with them)

If there was one place in the whole world you could be right now where would it be? Snowboarding Alaska or W Canada - the snow is awesome there at the moment!

What is the best thing about being pregnant? The excitement! And knowing what an enormous privilige it is (so many friends have struggled)

Will your dh be seen changing a nappy or running a mile?!! He's in training....

We are off to go and test drive an old convertible that's for sale in the garage nearby. One last bit of frivolity (the test drive, that is - don't think we are actually going to buy it!!)

FingonTheValiant · 17/04/2010 09:56

Hello and welcome to all the new folk, great to have you here! Congrats to everyone who has just had a successful scan, there can't be many left to go now.

Friday Five

How did you meet your dp? At a dinner party at my parents' house. He works with my dad, I was expecting a really boring night with my parents and dad's colleagues. Fortunately we really hit it off.

What was the first gig you went too? I cant really remember, but I think it my have been the Reading festival.

If there was one place in the whole world you could be right now where would it be? I would love to be in the local park in the sunshine having a picnic with dh, I would however fastforward the weather a couple of months.

What is the best thing about being pregnant? The constant excitement, and daydreaming about how great it's going to be to finally get baby cuddles.

Will your dh be seen changing a nappy or running a mile?!! Dh will be doing all the leg work to start with, I'm relying on him to ease me into it gently.

I'm off to visit my uncles for the weekend, so have a lovely time everyone! See you all on Sunday evening.

floozietoozie · 17/04/2010 10:05

How did you meet your dp? I went on a two-week summer school at a university and he was my tutor....

First gig - Hmm, think it was Deacon Blue at my sister's student union.

Place I'd be - Anywhere with a nanny? Only joking, Love to go to Cape Town or SanFrancisco but if it's a place i've already been then back to my former home for a year, Barcelona.

Best thing about pregnancy - feeling the baby move.

Dp changing nappies? - he's just done one this morning so don't think he'll be able to stop in October . Hopefully by then it'll only be the baby's to do. Have to face potty-training ds sometime soon (once kitchen and painting's finished maybe).....

nunnie · 17/04/2010 10:23

Hello all.

BackAgain, I am studying and I also have an exam next week (resit) I messd up last time as I went out the morning of my exam and put a deposit dow on a brand new mini, and my head was filled with fluffy clouds in my exam .

Stupid mini cost me my exam and I sold it after 10 weeks .

Anyway I am having to do a resit smack in the middle of my final year (law degree), which is annoying but must be done. I also have my final exam in October which is when the baby is due so that should be fun, I feel there may be more than fluffy clouds in my mind that day but I pretty sure it won't be law related .

I am struggling to keep my eyes open long enough to read a sentance let alone absorb the information. I think that is partly due to the fact that this module of law is bloomin boring .

You are not a lone me dear, hang in there.
