Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
essenceofSES · 18/05/2010 17:17

Hello! Sorry not been on for a few days. Just not enough hours in the day sometimes!

Cant - maybe see how your headaches go and if you get another within the next month, I'd definitely go and see GP.

Kay - what a great neighbour!

MMM - I think Diege's suggestion could be worth a try. It's just not worth the stress and in a few month's time he may have forgotten about it and love the idea of a bath as a novelty?

Tink - Glad DH had a good birthday!

Giraffe - hello! Had any more thoughts about work? Phew for AF!!

Right, I'd best go and tidy away O's tea things....

tinkhasaspringinherstep · 18/05/2010 17:23

morning

cant - i used to get migraines all the time i took migraleve every week
they have gone now
seeing the dr sounds like a good idea!

Glask - sorry to hear you are sufferling too, its a PITA isn't it?!

Diege - glad you got your outfit sorted and had a good shop

GY - yay for AF! made you think any more about ttcing?

Tink - I have the ELC h.land goosefeather farm for GC

he says "woof, woof" at the moment, mostly at dogs but today at the cat too made me and DH laugh. its so cute!

hello to everyone else!

on ttcing front I wasnt sure what was happening as I'm temping it didnt appear that I had ov'd but now think it was yest (CD17) so fingers crossed!

maxxymoosmummy · 18/05/2010 22:23

evening all, nt sure if anyone will be around, but thankyou everyone regarding advice about bathing DS, tried the paddling pool today, but he didnt entertain that either, although after a bit he was splashing in it, but thats as far as he went.
hair sounds nice TINK any piccies?

Moosy · 19/05/2010 06:19

Morning all! On my phone and just on the scrounge for some knowledge so I'll be quick but I'll be back on later if I can snatch a minute.....

DDs 1 and 3 have chicken pox, DD1 is much worse than DD2 had it 2 weeks ago but it's DD3 that I'm struggling with. She's not a great liker of calpol and now that she's really itchy (keeps rubbing her head and thrashing about) I need to do something to help her as it's really affecting her sleep (and mine, I was up till 2 and now up again). I have some ViraSoothe gel but it says not for use under 6 months without medical supervision, bur Fizzy's only 23ish weeks old. Do you think this would be ok to use (Ses in particular oh wise one ) or do you have any other ideas?

I hate seeing them suffering and not being able to do anything to help

maxxymoosmummy · 19/05/2010 08:17

morning all,
MOOSY have you tried the calomine gel / cream? there meant to be better than the lotion, piriton but not sure how old you have to be for that, and also bi-carbinate soda in bath, all these are meant to help. hope something sorls soon.

off to little angels again this morning max loved it last week even after not going for a while. so taking him again.

essenceofSES · 19/05/2010 09:55

Morning!

Moosy - sorry for all the pox
The main issues with the Virasoothe are that i) it hasn't been tested on babies under 6mo (probably didn't want to as a brand new product) and ii) it works predominantly by drawing water to the skin to evaporate off causing a cooling effect , possibly could result in dehydration in extreme circumstances where the baby was already dehydrated or running a high temperature.

Having said that, I can't see what harm it could actually cause a baby under 6mo in normal circumstances. I'd be more cautious if DD3 had a v high temperature or wasn't taking fluids on and she is only just off 6mo.

If you came into my pharmacy, I'd have to advise you not to use it as it's not within the product licence specifications.
If it were me in your situation, I think I'd use it providing she has plenty of fluids and temperature is controlled.

HTH and hasn't confused things further.
Oh and MMM is right with her suggestions. Bicarb or Epsom salts in the bath does help with the itching.

MMM - hope you enjoy little angels

Lovely sunny day here so washing is on the line! Then off to Jo Jingles (our highlight of the week!)

Diege · 19/05/2010 10:14

Hello! Just a quickie as in work and people lurking around the computer! Have taken the decision to request I return to full-time hours (well, full-time pay as I;m already doing full-time hours, hence the request!) and am seeing boss at 11 to talk it through. Wish me luck!
Poor you MOOS with the pox . I think SES and MMM have given you great advice though and fingers crossed the worst will be over very soon.
TINKS agree, hair sounds great - any piccies?
MMM enjoy your class with ds, sounds fun [
Hello to everyone else, must run, back later x

tinkhasaspringinherstep · 19/05/2010 11:17

hi

pics r on fb of hair

oh no moosy - great advice given

hi diege
good luck

Moosy · 19/05/2010 12:25

Thanks for the advice, and for the explanation Ses, I hate it when things just say "don't", I always want to know why. I covered DD1 in that stuff last night and she did wake up very thirsty this morning (she'd been very hot and sweaty in the night too) so I will use it sparingly and keep a close eye on DD3 if she needs it. I gave DD1 a bicarb bath yesterday and it didn't help at all, but this morning we did an oaty one and she said it really helped. Her spots look less angry since then too. Both of them are still getting new spots and they're already on day 4, I'm beginning to despair that it's never going to end!

Sorry for the rubbish catch up, it's just one thing after another here at the moment; we had a house viewing yesterday (haven't heard anything back from the EA yet), I have 3 fancy cakes to do for saturday and sunday, the VAT needs doing, and the end of year accounts, the barn money is running out, DD2 has just had chicken pox and a cold, DH and I both have colds and of course DD1 and DD3 still have the pox. I need a holidaaaaaaaaay!

maxxymoosmummy · 19/05/2010 12:27

DIEGE hope it went well.
M loved littke angels. but has been a very strange boy, hands down the toilet (luckily it was clean) eating chalk, and also eating paint. must taste good is all i can say haha. hes fast asleep in his pram still atm, literally after 2 mins of being in there he was flat out.
having an afternoon in, sorting living room out yet again.

hoping for M to have a bath tonight as hes filthy with paint.

maxxymoosmummy · 19/05/2010 12:30

sorry MOOSY x-posts. glad you have found something thats eased it for her a little. and hope they go soon. it will end at some point soon. M had them when he was only little and was covered in spots from head to toe. and it seemed that every day till day 7 he was getting new spots coming out.

GiraffeYoga · 20/05/2010 08:24

Morning all

Hope everyone is ok

Diege- how did the meeting go about the hours? I am interested in your decision to go back to full time- I can fully understand why you are doing it.

We just cant reach agreement about what to do. I want to go to 4 days but DH is adamant that if it means more working at home in the evenings then he doesnt want me to....

MMM- sorry you've had no more luck with the bath thing. Hopefully he will grown out of it.

Moosy- hope F and other DDs are ok today.

Tink, Cant, Gruff, Star - hi!!

The SG got bitten by another child at nursery yesterday. I am not annoyed as I know these things happen but I do feel a bit sorry for her as she has purple bite marks on her arm.

maxxymoosmummy · 20/05/2010 09:27

morning all,
GY not good to hear about the bruising from the bite marks, poor SG. but your right it happens.

still no nearer with M liking the bath
hope its not too long before hes enjoying it again like he used to. just out of things to try.

off to see my parents this morning i think, then taking M to a messy play this afternoon.

tinkhasaspringinherstep · 20/05/2010 11:24

moosy - sounds all very stressful

when dd1 got cp she got it a week before xhristmas a few years ago and still had spots on xmas day bless her

poor small giraffe

dsi arrived yest is fab

Diege · 20/05/2010 11:34

Morning! Meeting went well thanks, although that degree programme I was trying to save is going to be suspended, so not great. They have another HOD role for me though (professional doctorates? ) and I think that's what prompted my request to go back to full-time. With that on top of my usual roles (I'll still have to see the old degree out, they have anothewr 2 years left) I would actually be doing more than most people on full-timke contracts. So, while it's nice to have that 'free' day, it was increasingly being taken over by work anyway, and with the future role would be taking the piss big style. If 4 days meant 4 days, then that would be brilliant, but I think anything more than 0.5 is really going to tip-over into full-time, especially in the current climate.People ate going and not being replaced, and that has major implications for roles.I weould still be able to work from home at least one day a week, so don't feel too bad re: time with ds and dds. GIRAFFE, hope you can reach some agreement re: you going to 4 days. I don't think my example is that inspiring tbh, but your work is in a different field different so perhaps it will work?
MMM I think you will look back in 6 months and the bath thing will seem like a distant memory. Just thinking,do you have a shower/shower attachment for the bath that he could use? Yet something else I read mentioned giving them an umbrella and turning it into an game .
Hope everyone is ok - ds gone up for early nap so I can answer e-mails,think I'll have to start putting him in half days on a Thursday as he is crazily fast with his crawling and not really fair on either of us when I'm trying to work .
On ttc-front, I'm not hopeful for this month. No symnptoms other than cramps at nigvht for last 2 nights, which I also get with pre-af. There again, nothing quite like increasing your hours/role to bring on a bfp

Playingatmotherhood · 20/05/2010 14:30

Afternoon you lot

Haven't caught up and won't be on here long.
Had a truly nasty stomach bug for the past week. Couldn't keep anything down and had a very dodgy tummy too. Soooo glad to be over it although I am totally wiped out now. Can't believe I seem (fingers firmly crossed) to be having a pg with no sickness as such, yet have managed to contract a violent stomach bug instead! I am so lucky that my Mum is so close I honestly don't know what i would have done without her having spent 3 days in bed and the past couple of days loafing around the house in a state of undress.

Hope everyone else is ok.

Diege · 20/05/2010 16:29

Playing, hellooo!!!! I have been thinking about you and wondering how you were getting on. Your pregnancy sounds very much like mine with dd2, sickness (or not) wise. Glad you're over your bug - that must have been dire . How many weeks are you now?

maxxymoosmummy · 21/05/2010 07:47

morning everyone,
feeling soooo tired, and got a headache yet again, doing my headin now. want it to just go and never come back.
got work today, and just feel awful, but its gotta be done.

hope everyone has good days. will be back on later. need to start making a move and get ready.

DIEGE ive tried the shower, and that didnt work either. tried everything which was suggested. but hes still the same. glad your meeting went well.

bumpsnowjustplump · 21/05/2010 12:32

Afternoon everyone, I have been rubbish about getting on MN so sorry about that.. OMG I really hate chicken pox... Three weeks in and worse then ever!!!! My poor baby boy is covered you can not see a patch of skin because of all the spots... I have had a grand total of 4 hours sleep since Wednesday and am ready to drop!!! I am praying that neither of them scar, Jessica didn't scratch too much but some of her spots were the size of a 10 pence piece but owen is scratching with the palms of his hands as I have put socks on his hands... I also hope i havent passed it on to my newborn cousin and my best friends baby boy who we saw on Monday!!! Sorry for me me post but I feel very me me at the moment...

Moose we are using PoxClin and I am using in abundance on both of them as it says it cools and reduces the growth of scar tissue (how true that is I dont know but doing it anyway)

Brittish gas man just gone and is back tomorrow to hopefuly fix our boiler so we can all have a nice bath, at the moment me and jessica are begging baths at friends houses and owen is in the baby bath with kettle water... Mark just stinks ...

bumpsnowjustplump · 21/05/2010 12:34

opps how many spelling mistakes in one post... forgot to ask as well, ses owen seems to be breathing differently (louder and faster) and his temp is sky high.. is this normal with the pox?

Diege · 21/05/2010 12:57

Hello . Lardy!!! Great to hear from you though sorry you having to cope with cp and its associated horrors . Hopefully someone will be ableto rteassure you about O, though I'd advise ringing NHS Direct if you are worried in the meantime.
MMM, hope you're ok - you MUST see the drs about these headaches (CANT too)as they are obviously very debilitating and happen so frequently. Hope you can get through work ok x Ph and BTW I am bringing the dds up to Blackpool for the day in the schools hols (probably the first week, 31st May-4th June). Just wondering if you and/or CANT might be around then for a quick meet?

Moosy · 21/05/2010 13:03

Nice to see you on here bumps!

If he's breathing funny I think you really ought to see a Dr, on the NHS website it says:

You should also contact your GP straight away if you or your child develop any abnormal symptoms, for example:

  • if the blisters on the skin become infected
  • if you or your child start to experience pain in the chest or difficulty breathing

Given that he's had a high temp for a few days too I think you ought to at least ring your GP for some proper advice.
