Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Hollyoaks · 24/04/2010 09:19

Morning all, glad to be at the weekend after a hard and exhausting four days at work.

Sassles - good news on your interview

MDM - not sure what you can do about the consultant appointment, but its not very helpful for you to make you wait. Maybe you should let your mw know about your concerns after the weekend and see what she has to say.!

Ml - hope your feeling better and the abs are working, but ouch!

Squirtsmum - 2 miles! You must be mad, I get really uncomfortable when I start walking any distance and the bh kick in. Listen to your dh and don't wander off so far . No advice on the insomnia though, sorry, I'm sleeping for England, except for all the frequent toilet trips.

Enjoy the weekend, off to get ready for dd's dance class.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 24/04/2010 09:41

Sassles - glad that you've made some progress with HR and will be able to interview but that this has ruined your last day at work.

SquirtsMum - two miles I can barely manage two metres atm! No advice on the insomnia but it is horrible. I did find last time that trying different positions/places to sleep in could help - I used to find that sleeping with my head at the foot of the bed sometimes worked. No idea why.

MDM - sorry you've been having such rubbish care, not sure what to suggest. Growth scans can be quite unreliable I think. It sounds like you should have been referred for scans ages ago, and it's a bit daft that you can't get appointments now.

Enjoy the weekend everyone

rachelfruitloop · 24/04/2010 11:26

Hi Ladies!

IT'S SATURDAY AND I'M NOT AT WORK!

LOL MDM and grammar pet hates, I am like that, too! I can understand your frustration with the growth scan and not being attended to sooner. It sounds like you're a small lady anyway so perhaps that is why the MW wasn't concerned? Would they want to induce you early if they thought the growth had slowed down? As the others have said, growth scans are also notoriously inaccurate, so who knows! Glad DH is prescribing all the right things for you though!

Squirtsmum I do highly recommend the Natal Hypnotherapy Effective Birth Preparation CD for relaxation - I fall asleep to it every time! Heffa I also find that laying the other way in bed helps for some odd reason! Watching a film I've seen a million times helps too (but involves going downstairs to lay on the sofa - at least it's closer to the toilet!) Walking 2 miles, amazing! I am like the others, can barely walk for 5 mins now without having to pee or my left leg going numb from the sciatic nerve pinch I'm experiencing now!

Five sounds like that baby can come at any time!!! How exciting!

Alle it also sounds like not long for you, sorry that you had the contractions so regularly on Wed and then nothing, how frustrating!!!

Carikube glad to hear your DH doesn't have a hernia, hope he recovers soon so he can help you out more!

ML I'm so sorry you're suffering from the mastitis and in hospital again! Here's to a speedy recovery! Glad Olivia can stay in with you!

Booboo hope you had a great birthday yesterday!!

MustBeMad I think if you've had chicken pox before then your baby should have your immunity whilst in the womb. Obviously, it's best to stay away if you can but if you were briefly accidentally exposed I wouldn't worry. This happened to us recently with my DS's preschool, too. Very cute about your DS's question about whether or not you need a husband to make a baby! My DS has been asking me how the baby got in there (I tell the story about daddy's sperm cell and mummy's egg cell and he seems to accept that without too much gory detail) and how the baby will get out (I tell him that I'll have to push him down the birth canal and it will be like pushing out a big poo). So far he's not repeated it to anyone, but I've tried to make it factual but not anything too detailed!

Angel hope the bathroom ceiling is coming along nicely! WOOP WOOP! Glad you weren't leaking fluid, it's reassuring to hear that there are scares even for experienced mums!

SK that is unnerving that you'd have to stay in hospital overnight without DH if you have an induction! I wouldn't be too pleased about that either!

Sassles glad that they've sorted you out an interview date, I agree with MDM about you having the advantage that you'll have the full days to prepare rather than having to do it around work time, so that's something! Such a drag that it's put such a dampner on your leaving, I really feel for you!

Right, I'm off to sew some more on DS's bedroom curtains! I hope everyone in holding up ok and has a great weekend!

SquirtsMum · 24/04/2010 11:43

MDM when we had to go to a specialist to get a detailed heart scan for LO we waited 4wks and we too thought well they can't be that worried if they'll let us wait this long but what if there is a problem and the wait just exacerbates it all? Anyhoo if its a problem that should have been picked up weeks/months ago I would be seriously having a word with the MW/GP as it's just silly you can't get an app now

Still awake.... thank god for Warcraft lol. Tried sleeping on sofa, sofa cushions on the floor, the spare room, the other way round on the bed, drinking a mug of warm milk, counting sheep, breathing exercises - nothing works DP went to work at 5.30am but even having the bed to myself doesn't help so I've resigned myself to getting an hr or so on the sofa during the day and just sleeping as much as my body will let me at night.

Hope everyone is rested and has a good weekend xxx

cupcakefairy · 24/04/2010 12:59

Aw squirt I really feel for you not being able to sleep. I was having trouble last week but just adding an extra pillow (have always only slept on one) has helped massively. But sounds like you've tried all that kind of stuff!!
Agree with the others on the walking I could barely walk from one shop to the next without sitting down yesterday. Keep getting moments of period type cramps along with faintness...no idea if that is a sign of lo getting ready to come out

MDM about your scan etc! At ours the other day the consultant couldn't measure the baby's head so sent me to the ultrasound dept who saw us within 10 mins, was v impressed. Ridiculous that they don't hold some appointments for emergencies (well, I don't mean you're an emergency, not trying to worry you! Just is a ridiculous situation.) But actually 5lb4 is really ok and I'm sure your lo will be just fine
Glad your last day was lovely. of your skip hop changing bag, I'm going to try and convince dh to let me get one.

sassles good news on the interview

Right, dh and I are off out for last few bits today (although they clearly won't be the last!) so better go eat some lunch. Love to all x

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 24/04/2010 13:26

SK, I had to stay in overnight with DS2 induction but for the pessary to be effective, but with DD2 they were able to break waters that night and she arrived at 1.45am. Think when it's no 4 (or 5 hopefully) it's easier to get to the waters IYSWIM. I know you don't want too much intervention, but ARM worked really well that way with DD2, there was no way they could send him home as all hell broke loose with back 2 back contractions.
ML sorry to hear you're back in hospital, mastitis sounds like hell. Hope you're on the mend soon, but good that Olivia is still with you.
Angel, another one on no 5 here, it's just as worrying, although in my case i do wonder what exactly is keeping DD3 in? There isn't alot of strength left down there IYSWIM.
MDM If your measurements have been growing slowly over the last few weeks all should be well. It's very difficult to be really accurate with babies weights I think. My DSIL was told she was having a very small bay even at 2 weeks overdue, DN came out at 8lb10oz! DSIL is over 6ft tall though so baby was just well hidden. DD2 was supposed to be about 8lb10, but was only 7lb 13, just long & skinny. Hoping DD3 will be the same.
If you or your DH/P are petite, then that will often affect baby's growth. Percentile scales are just that, if you hang around the bottom of one, chances are baby will do the same. If you've any more worries though, just call MW for a chat. She'll get you back in if she's still worried.
Was just trying to have a nap earlier with DD2, we were both woken by the boinging noise of DS2 (8), playing indoor football in the room below us with my yoga/birthing ball! Unfortunately typical DS2 behaviour, he's very much like his DD!
Enjoy the weekend everyone.

sweetkitty · 24/04/2010 15:22

MDM - like everyone else has said growth scans are very inaccurate in the last trimester, some consultants recommend against them as they can cause more harm than good. I know women that have been told they are having whoppers and out pops and little one and vice versa. First babies are always your smallest as well and if you are little chances are you aren't going to have a big baby. Try not to worry and let it ruin your last few weeks. Congrats on starting your maternity leave too.

Rachel - the DDs are always asking me about babies, I have told them that the Daddy puts a very little seed in the Mummy's tummy and it grows into a baby, then the baby comes out a special tunnel (!) or sometimes the doctor has to take the baby out. They haven't asked how the seed gets in the tummy though thankfully. DD1 watched a lovely waterbirth on TV the other day that didn't show too much gory stuff, she was transfixed. The big two are so excited about their brother coming out. Yey on the not being at work too

Five - thanks I think I am just very anxious about this whole induction thing, my longest labour has been 4 hours and I didn't really have a say in it, my body did it all with me as a bystander IYSWIM. I know it is for the best being more managed, the DDs taken care of and DP here.

Squirtsmum - I get pregnancy insomnia as well, was up at 6am this morning. Hope you manage to get a nap later.

Girls have been to 2 parties today so they have had a great time, the weather is lovely as well. I feel like getting a t-shirt printed saying:

  • 1 1/2 weeks to go
  • yes I have a neat bump
  • yes it is high up but this is the way I carry my babies
  • it's a boy
  • yes we have a name and it's a secret

I know people are just being nice but EVERYONE who talks to me asks the same things. Bit the head off a woman yesterday at toddlers, she said "oh your having another one, a little brother for DD3?" I said DD3 is my third this one is my fourth, oh you will be SOOOOO hoping for a little boy then? I said no we really wanted another girl as all our girls are fantastic! but we know this one is a boy. "As long as it's healthy" was her reply. I know it's the hormones but sometimes it jsut gets to you as if DD2 and 3 are not as good.

pamelat · 24/04/2010 17:02

Sassles good news re your interview but sorry they put you through the stress in the first instance

ML sorry you back in hospital too. I neve had mastitus (spelt wong) but hear it can be incredibly painful. Is it cabbage leaves that are recommended for a less severe form?!

We have had a lovely but exhausting day at the zoo. DD has been great for a week or two but it was all a bit much for her today. We went as a kind of last thing to do with just DD on her own before she gets a brother & all in one.

However, the "I wants" and "nows" got a bit much and she wouldnt sit in the pram, then wouldnt have her shoes on, then would only be carried by mummy again. If I tried explainging that mummy had a big baby tummy (like someone else had? sorry cant remember who) she would say "dont want baby". I think she is feeling rather insecure about it all so gave lots of cuddles and a very nice ice cream

Sorry to go on, but to any of the other ladies with children already (DD is 2.3) have you noticed a sudden interest in your boobs?! I know that sounds odd but in the last month or so DD keeps pulling my top down! She has not been breastfed since she was about 8 months old.

Surely she doesnt remember that?

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 24/04/2010 20:19

SquirtsMum - feel for you with the insomnia but glad WoW is helping. I was thinking about picking up my account again to get through the nights a bit but not sure if I'll just get hooked and don't have much time to spare between pregnancy and DD!

SK - Those comments must be really annoying, I don't understand why people are so obsessed with deciding what other people should have. It really gets on my nerves, can't imagine how frustrating it must be for you.

Pamelat - My DD is obsessed with my boobs at the moment as well. She pulls my top down and likes stuffing things into my cleavage . She keeps trying to put stuff down her top as well and seems a bit baffled about why she doesn't have anything there.

Cupcakefairy - I've been getting a lot of period cramps for a few weeks, it's very annoying. I've been feeling faint the last couple of days though and quite nauseous so wondering if that means anything or is just an annoying pregnancy thing.

brightredballoon · 24/04/2010 23:04

SK I am getting very at the recent comments I have received, I was in a clothes shop today and a shop assistant said to me "should you be out, are you not ready to drop" in a very Glaswegian accent. It stopped me in my tracks and made me think whether I should be out or not (I'm not that huge, I do measure 40inches round my bump but I am quite tall as well). I am due a week today but having the cs next week so I do feel ok being out and about! Another person passed comment in the supermarket saying "I thought I was big" and asked when I was due,so I said next week and proceeded to ask her when she was "August" she replied, well I should have said, oh my word you really will be massive if you continue getting as big! Of course I am too polite to say anything of the sort!

Sleep problems as well, yes I am suffering too. Find my sinuses are quite congested and cant seem to go to sleep before midnight then up around 5.30/6 depending on DS (any sleep tips to help a 2.4yr old are most welcome).

pamelat my 2.4 yr old DS likes to pat my boobs! I wondered if its from DD (4) talking about how the baby will get milk from my boobs?

TCH I have also been feeling quite nauseous recently, and having some regular tightenings so i also wondered if they were linked. Thing with me though is that because I want my ELCS I do everything to stop them when I get them rather than if I wanted a normal delivery I would be bounding around trying to bring things on!

When should we open up a post natal thread? I was thinking once we had all delivered?

Sweetkitty do you know if there are any ducks at Strathclyde park? DS is desperate to feed some and unfortunately our local wee pond hasn't had any in it all year.

ForcesSweetheart · 25/04/2010 01:38

AnnaLouise1991 I'm just 5 mins down the road from you, in Bulford. I had my baby girl 9 days ago. Are you planning to breastfeed your little one? Reason i ask is I'm planning to go to the breastfeeding group in Larkhill on Friday morning if you fancy coming along? Might be a good way for you to meet some local mums. I don't really know anyone in the area either so hoping it'll be a chance to meet some people.

ML Hope the mastitis is clearing up.Sorry you're having a hard time of it!

The last week has passed in a haze of stress and sleep deprivation. Last Sunday, while I was still in hospital DD1 came down with Chicken Pox which was just about the worst timing imaginable.
Molly lost a lot of weight, went from 7lb 6oz at birth down to 6lb 9.5oz on Wednesday when midwife visited. Have had to feed to a gruelling schedule of every 3 hours, with expressing and topping up fitted in between so pretty much doing little else as by the time she's fed, been topped up and I've expressed for the next top-up it's time to start the next feed.

Her weight today had gone up to 6lb 11.5oz tho so on the right track i hope. She also had a calcium defficiency which she needed supplements for, but thankfully blood tests on Thursday showed it has resolved now so supplements have stopped. The feeding consultant at the hospital thinks Molly is just behaving like a preemie, not ready to be out yet, as all she wants to do is sleep and it's hard to rouse her enough to get her to feed well (I forgot to set my alarm for the 3am feed one night and she slept through from 1am when we finished the midnight feed til just after 6am!). The midwives at the hospital were fantastic about sticking to my birth plan and my feeding preferences, even standing up to the paeds doctors on my behalf when they tried to force me to give bottles of formula (the midwives begged some donor milk from NICU for me and helped me syringe feed til my milk came in). There were many episodes of tearful outbursts on my part but they all rallied round to encourage me to stick at it and I'm finally starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel. The consultant dropped the screen for me as Molly was lifted out so that I could watch and one of the midwives took photos of the delivery in theatre for me, they're on my facebook if anyone wants to have a look (will stick them in the May Babies group photos when I'm done here). Not very easy to see what's going on with the size of the photos on facebook tho, the originals can be zoomed into and you get to see her being lifted out much more easily.

Sorry I haven't caught up with everyone's news yet, time is not on my side right now but hopefully now her weight's going up it won't be long before we can drop the top ups and get a bit of breathing space between feeds. Hope you're all doing well. Lis & Molly xxx

AnAngelWithin · 25/04/2010 09:02

Hi ladies!!

forces Gosh what a time for you!! Hope things ease soon bless ya. Glad Molly is putting a bit of weight on now.

Pamelat, my youngest is 4, shes started pulling my top down sometimes now. DS1 is so funny, he can't get his head around using them for breastfeeding!!! Wondering if I should go upstairs to feed or if he will get too embarrased if I stay in the room?? DH thinks I should go to the bedroom. None of the other kids are bothered. DD1 (8) says its lovely so she has no objections. I think DS1 is just being a typical giggly boy about boobs!

SK I know what you mean. I saw a couple of mums at school I haven't seen since before easter. All I got was 'oh not long....you are huge.....bet you are fed up now' thats all I get off everyone lately! Even FIL laughs and says he doesn't think I can get any bigger DH thinks its funny cos from the back you can't tell I am pregnant at all, I turn round and he says 'whoa thats one big bump!!' tut....if I've heard it once.....

Five, yes sometimes I wonder how on earth everything is still intact!!

cupcake hope you enjoyed your shopping!

Squirtsmum hope you get some sleep bless you.

Rachel did you get the curtains done?

MDM nightmare!!! for you!!

ML Glad you are home now, hopefully you will stay out now!!

I have spent the past 2 days ripping through the house decluttering!! Every cupboard in every room has been sorted!! 3 binbags full of rubbish out of the kids rooms, a binbag full of old bills/reciepts been shredded, another binbag full of paper for recycling, 2 binbags of general rubbish. Gosh I didn't think the house was that bad and it didn't look it but its amazing what you find!! (plus the fact I was in a totally ruthless mood!!)

Bathroom and toilet have been painted and finished, new toilet seat fitted. The cupboard under the stairs was one of the worst culprits! Couldn't even set foot in there!! My pram is in there as well, so that had a major overhaul. I put the carrycot bit of the pram together properly as well ready as baby will be sleeping in there instead of a moses basket so want DH to just be able to drag it out beore he comes and gets us from hospital. Rearranged all the shelves under the stairs and now I can get a lot of the baby stuff in there ready and waiting!

FIL came and took all 4 kids out for the afternoon again yesterday so I really got to crack on with sorting out!! All the baby clothes were folded into the drawers, and all the little washable nappies have been put in the changing box ready

Now the place is decluttered its easier to keep on top of hopefully! I can give it a good clean tomorrow when all the kids are at school.

Hoping for an easier day today! Just put the girls sheets into wash, then going to bath all the kids in a minute. We've already got the uniforms bags and PE kits ready for tomorrow lol DH is going mad cos I am just on auto pilot...just want things DONE now!! Next bee in my bonnet is hiring the carpet cleaner next week then I will be happy!! The baby can come whenever once I've done that. The kids told me this morning its 29 days!...OMG....29?!? IS THAT ALL?!?

Raining here this morning good job the kids are too tired to want to go out!! Right I had better go crack on. Looking forward to an afternoon playing with the kids now!! Unless I find something else to sort!!

Have a good day ladies!! x

pamelat · 25/04/2010 11:00

Angelwithin, you sound like a lady on a mission

DH is outside with DD at the moment washing the pram and car seat. I am finally packing hospital back at 37 weeks & 4 days, ooops.

DD is basically just getting soaking wet outside and shouting "my pram not baby's" and "I am mummys baby", we are prepared for a few "issues">

I had a friend due the same day as me (12 May) and she had her baby last night! All is well for both of them.

Going to try this turning lark (ECV) on Tuesday and if/when it fails will get c-sec date. Something tells me 5th May. Ready to meet him now.

Carikube · 25/04/2010 11:24

Angel you're making me feel quite inadequate! There are so many jobs round here that need doing and I just can't be bothered. I'm having difficulty just keeping on top of the washing let alone sorting out everything that needs sorting

Forces glad you got the support you needed for your birth/feeding plan and that Molly is now putting on weight. Hope DD1 is getting over the pox. I know there's a lot of it about atm and I'm getting paranoid about DD getting it any time round now....

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 25/04/2010 11:30

BRB - I've heard nausea can be a sign of things getting going but not convinced! I think we should leave the postnatal thread until we've all delivered as well, it must be miserable being the last one otherwise.

Forces - sorry things have been a bit of a struggle for you but glad that Molly is now putting on weight. Your midwives sound great Hope your DD1 is feeling better soon.

Angel - you sound so busy, very impressed! Good luck with getting your carpet cleaner, I love hiring them and seeing how much they get up (although it's also quite grim)

Pamelat - good luck for your ECV.

AnAngelWithin · 25/04/2010 11:58

Pamelat that I am!!!

carikube i was feeling like you til last week then all of a sudden that was it!! Non stop!!

Heffa I borrowed one of those rugdoctor ones last time and it was bloody brilliant!! Will be hiring it again!!

The idea is, I get everything done this week, then I will have a few weeks to take it easy(ish!) and it will all be easier to keep on top of!!

cupcakefairy · 25/04/2010 12:00

heffa and brb I'm getting lots of nausea too, along with the cramps that makes me think things are definitely gearing up. Lots of backache too. I'm now starting to understand why people get fed up of being pregnant towards the end! I didn't think I would!

Good to hear from you forces and glad Molly is putting on weight again.

cupcakefairy · 25/04/2010 12:02

Ooh forgot was also going to wave hello to pagen if you're still out there lurking and unable to type! Your due date is coming up

pamelat · 25/04/2010 12:49

cupcake, heffa and brb - I also feel quite sick and have back cramps.

I woke up this morning at 5am wide awake but feeling sick. By 6am I had given up on going back to sleep and went and had my breakfast. DD woke at 7 and suddenly I was very tired. DH got up and I went back to bed. Very odd as then managed a good hours sleep after that. Almost like morning sickness that the breakfast helped with.

sweetkitty · 25/04/2010 13:17

Heffa - thanks I know people are only being nice and polite but when you have answered the same question 20 times in about an hour it gets boring doesn't it? But what else do you talk to with a very pregnant woman?

BRB - the end is SO in sight for you now, you are in the same hospital as me aren't you WGH? IF I do go early you will have to tell me what date you are going in on, I will be trawling the wards looking for you lol yes there are ducks and swans down Strathclyde Park, we were there yesterday for a party and it was so busy. I am really tired today all I want to do is sleep.

Forces - your pictures are fab, you look so good especially after your op. Molly is beautiful but sorry you are having a few problems. First few weeks always difficult things will settle down soon for you all.

Angel - you are making me tired just thinking about all you are doing, definite nesting going on there. I think there is a part of our brains has to get everything in order and sorted before we can go into labour, I did all the beds yesterday as well, well instructed DP

pamelat - I am worried about DD3 as well, she went mad today when DD1 was cuddling me and pulled her hair she is very jealous don't know how she will get on once DS is here. Good luck with the ECV on Tuesday, hope it goes well.

I was in bed by 9pm last night and I still so tired today all I want to do is sleep, eat and pee in the order was very sore last night as well lots of pressure as well. I also still gag brushing my teeth most mornings as well.

Looks like we may have some more babies by te end of the week though

Afternoon all,

Pamelat - good luck for Tuesday, hope they turn it for you. DD is also 2.3 and although she doesn't have a thing for touching my boobs she does give them a funny look when she sees them when I'm getting changed.

Forces - those pics are amazing and the one of you with your two girls afterwards is lovely. You look really well Keep up the good work with the bf, I'm sure it will get easier.

Angel - how can you keep up with 4 dc and the housework, very though I have gotten through a lot of washing this weekend with the sun being out.

BRB - the end is in sight, how exciting I also agree with heffa and leave the postnatal thread until we have all delivered or I'll have no-one to talk to unless I go early (fingers crossed)

Heffa, BRB, cupcake - can I join you on the nausea and tonnes of cramps, bh's, backache etc... Get this baby out of me, I'm so sick and still have 5 weeks!!!

Well we've had an eventful weekend. Dh bought dd a rabbit yesterday, completely impulsively, but he got a good deal on a hutch including all the accessories to get started from Pets at Home. So, little Daisy is enjoying running round the now rabbit-proofed garden chewing the grass. Bless her, she's very tame despite not being handled before and has no fear of dd who loves her. Unfortunately, dd woke up this morning in a funny mood and has thrown up twice. She's sat on the settee with me wrapped in a blanket but has managed some toast and an apple (because Daisy had one ), so I think she's feeling better just a little sorry for herself. Hope this doesn't go on for days though like it normally does.

hollyoaks lol at your DH!! Sorry your DD is poorly. I am pretty lucky really that I have help with FIL coming and kidnapping them on a few saturday afternoons while DH has been working, so I have been able to crack on well!

SK yes I think it is nesting!! I still had it with dd1 even though i went into labour 24 days early with her so you never know lol.

Oh yes, I am getting the sicky feeling in the mornings a lot. Breakfast usually helps. Got on the scales this morning and I have put on a total of.....wait for it.... 6lb DH says I have lost a lot off my bum and legs and hips though, but even so...6lb is a bit pathetic isn't it?!?!

Hello! Just wanted to say hello and congrats to all the new Mums and good luck to everyone who is still waiting. I've been such a lurker - 13 days to go for me and I can't wait. Will keep you posted

Angel - 6lbs I am at 2 stone! Maybe the sicky feelings we are all getting are because our stomachs are somewhere around our necks. I feel I cannot stretch anymore.

Just had a lovely nap this afternoon

Hollyoaks - congrats on the new addition

Forces..sorry to hear your first week has been fraught with problems..hopefully this will be the last of it now Molly is beautiful and I love the breastfeeding signs on her babygrow..I was lucky at my hospital in that they said if Olivias blood sugars were low..they would ask me to express so they could cup feed her,but as it happened her blood sugars were fine.
