49 inches - have just measured me and I am 39 have measured the other way and am 38 cms. I am always just all bump though, don't think I have much water either jsut hard bony bits sticking out everywhere.

I never get up in the night for the other 3, as DP says by the time I actually hoist myself up it will be morning. Same once the baby is here as I will do all the nightfeeds only about right he sees to the other ones if the wake!

Quiet weekend here, actually went to Asda today which is my highlight, the evil muscle/stitch thing is a bit better but I just needed to get out the house. Am a bit upset though as SIL texted me to say she is away from home the next 2 weeks although she does have the 3 days before my due date off. So if I go early will have to rely on goodwill of my friends to care for the other 3. Better than DD2's birth when I was booked in for the induction on the Saturday and was going myself as there was noone to look after DD1, luckily she came in the early hours of Thursday morning. Just brings it home the complete lack of family support we have and it has nothing to do with distance. Sorry feeling sorry for myself.

An old uni friend had her little boy early this morning she was induced on Thurs, haven't got all the gory details but I hope it went ok she was terrified.

pigley - hope your DD feels better soon and you have a better night tonight

Thanks to everyone who added me as a friend on FB, will try and remember who you all are now.

MDM - that's fab you are all sorted

angel - much respect painting at this far gone, I do all the painting here too.

Rachel - hope your little "guests" have gone for good. We have 3 cats but I doubt they could catch a cold between the 3 of them.

kateyjane - thanks I manage as my DP is great at doing everything and I keep myself doped up on cocodamol during the day so I can move. Got some more today cannot wait to ditch them though. Glad your appointment went well and hopefully you can have an easy run in until B day.

Pigley hope you get a better nights sleep tonight

Rachel eek! with the mice but having said that DP is scared of moths so there is no way he'd deal with mice - something tells me it would be left up to me!

Looking after DP's nephew tonight which is good fun, he's told me I'm not allowed to go into labour unless there are towels and hot water available, bless Watching silly TV and playing X360 till DP comes home, its really nice to have the company esp on a sat night when all my friends are out and about and I feel like a beached whale

Have posted a pic of bump on the FB site

xxx

TomlinTowers · 17/04/2010 20:00

Arrgh whoever started this measuring thing - 42 inches!! And I have measured bump whilst DH out fetching Indian meal!! Will be 45 inches after I have polished that lot off!

Pigley/Carikube - sympathies on your broken nights. DS1 slept like a log last night after all the fresh air at the sea. We have spent day at the river today, throwing stones in the water and playing football. Hoping that the same happens tonight!

Rachel - have you 'fessed to your DH about the biscuits - I don't think I would!

pamelat · 17/04/2010 20:06

Hello all, feeling slightly ridiculous

Waited in as requested for the midwife. Dh took DD out so it wasnt too bad and the weather was lovely etc. Anyway by 230 I decided to call to see where she was, she had said before lunch. I got through to the on call midwife who had no record of me needing a home visit, so basically my midwife had forgotten to book me in.

I was quite annoyed but said that I would wait until Monday, at which point she asked what my bp had been and I told her and she said it couldnt wait until monday but would need a sunday visit (we have plans for tomorrow) and that I would have to wait in AGAIN.

I got off the phone and burst in to tears which now seems silly, but am annoyed.

I offered to drive to see them or to take my own bp in boots etc but no I have to stay in, I am quite cross about it as it ruins our plans for tomorrow, and then I think am I being silly when its for my own good etc.

I guess I am annoyed that they consider it serious enough to not wait until Monday but not serious enough to have come out this afternoon or tonight, or for my own midwife to have even remembered to book it in

bp prob sky high now!!

pigleychez · 17/04/2010 21:32

Measurements- 45 inches

SK- Cross those legs till 3 days before! I know how you feel with no family nearby and the lack of comitment.
My PIL's have just announced that they are off on a cruise a week afer im due. DD was 2 weeks late so I could be just as late this time too meaning they would miss the birth.

Pamlet- How annoying! I think i too would prob cry.. All the anticipation and worry about her coming.
Hope they put you top of the list tomorrow and it doesnt mess your plans up too much tomorrow.

DD went down like a dream tonight as she was sooooo tired. All been quiet so far so hoping for a better night. Her room stinks as shes smoothered in every kind of Decongestant going!

Finished staining the decking today which I think finished me off too. This evening ive had terrible pains underneath my bump and felt very very uncomfortable. Eased since laying on the sofa so going to have a lazy day tomorow.
Had the first BBQ of the year this afternoon too.

pigleychez · 17/04/2010 21:37

Oh dear oh dear..... Just read on another thread that BA have cancelled all thier shorthaul flights for tomorrow.

Doesnt look like my parents will be returning from thier holiday in Jeresy then!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 17/04/2010 22:02

SK - sorry you're feeling a bit down, it must be so hard with no family nearby.

Pamelat - I'd be pretty upset about that as well, how annoying! It won't be helping your BP either.

Pigley - at your PIL. Hope they don';t miss the birth. Hope your DD is OK and sleeps well tonight.

SquirtsMum - hope you have a good evening.

sweetkitty · 17/04/2010 22:15

Thanks guys just gets to you now and again, I know if one of my girls ever goes through this SPD malarky with other DC about I would be sleeping on her floor doing everything for her, I have already made them promise they are never leaving home although DD1 is so obsessed with babies she says she is going to have 8. For her 6th birthday she has chosen a newborn baby girl and boy from ELC and wants a double buggy, DP is very afraid!

pigley - if there's one thing I have learnt these babies do not listen to due dates or do anything you expect them to, hope your DD has a good night, it makes all the difference when you have a good nights sleep doesn't it? Cannot believe your PIL so they have booked a cruise the week after you are due? Could they not have waited a few weeks Hope your parents get back ok as well, it's affecting everyone, a complete nightmare

pamelat - what a annoying day for you as well. Can they not give you a time or anything?

All these measurements are making me I think I have bump envy lol, no not really I reckon this boy will be hitting 8lbs maybe that's why I have a sore pelvis half his body is hiding in it

Off to bed now am utterly shattered despite having a nap today, can anyone else not get enough sleep, I feel I could just sleep and sleep right now

KatnKankles · 18/04/2010 00:17

Hiya, can't find a bloody tape measure or I would join in

Had a lovely afternoon with a BBQ, brother and SIL and friends Kids had a great time and I ate far too much.

I am feeling so much better now my bump has 'dropped' and I can actually eat again although I am peeing more than ever!!

My Mum and grandma are stuck in America!! Theyw ere supposed to be flying home tonight and getting back tomorrow.. they can't get a flight until the 27th May!! Due to a backlog of cancellations apparently! Luckily my Mum's partner is working in Alabama so they are bravely going to hire a car and drive there from Orlando (about a 7 hour drive). I'm impressed! I think they are secretly enjoying their little adventure as my Mum gets an extra week off work with a good excuse. I just hope I don't give birth before they get back...

Finally put up my amby hammck thing this weekend, I love it lots. I also stuck the border on the nursery walls but the bloody thing fell off in the night . Looks like I'll have to do it all again.

xxxxxxx

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 18/04/2010 01:14

Think I win (unfortunately) with a bump measurement of 55" but I should point out that I was a size 24/26 pre-pregnancy so it's not all baby by any means! And no-one guesses I'm pregnant even though the bump is huge and high.

I hate meeting new people at the moment as at some point in the conversation I usually have to tell them I'm pregnant and they always ask when I'm due and I say 3.5 weeks and they look down at my belly like "Oh! er, yes of course you are..." It's all a bit embarassing to be honest!

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 18/04/2010 07:31

Pamlet- How annoying!Hope you're plans for today can be ammended.

Pigley- I can think of worse places for your parents to be stranded. I love jersey, have family over there. If this plane situation doesn't improve and they are desparate to get back, try the ferry. They can cross as foot passengers, but it does mean someone will have to collect them from Portsmouth. Added a link for you here. www.condorferries.co.uk/home.html

SK, it will soon be over for us, wish you were nearby still, I'm sure my family would have added your DC's to the mix if help was needed, as would I, if not in labour at the same time as you.lol

My bump measurement is not all baby either, was a size 16 when fell PG and my meds I had to change to once PG make me eat like a horse. I swear i'm secretly having twins, and 1 is growing in my bum!
Have a good day everyone. It's DH's last day of his holiday today, so he wants to 'DO' something! I just want to sleep!

sweetkitty · 18/04/2010 07:53

Morning all just sitting here enjoying a cup of tea (and my breakfast cocodamols) before the tribe descend. If I wake early I cannot get back to sleep for the pain as the painkillers have worn off. Am trying to keep them to a minimum as well, don't want this boy born a junkie.

It's the opposite way round for me, people don't believe I have two and a bit weeks to go "but you are SO neat" as if I am lying. We cannot help our bump shapes, I eat when I am hungry and often not that well. I was a size 12 before children and was a size 8 before this one, I'm quite small and have little arms and legs so any weight looks terrible on me and settles on my bum and hips, my bum and hips are always out of proportion to the rest of me as well, finding jeans is tricky.

The thing that bothers me more than the weight it how unfit and stiff I am going to be after this one is born, as I have limited my walking and any sort of exercise, I remember after DD3 although nearly all the pain went it went like I had no muscles left. Will have to build up to some exercise, am thinking of even walking to school and back (easier than getting the bus out).

five - thank you I know I do miss all you lot been ages since we last saw each other. We should have a reunion one day with all the kids, did you ever think I would have 4 when I was in that little flat with my cats?
Same here last days of DPs hols but think we are having a chilled out day.

kat - your poor parents, it's affecting everyone this flying thing and I know a few teachers who cannot get home as well so I don't know how that is going to affect the schools going back tomorrow? Also have a few friends due to fly out on holiday in the next few weeks too.

Am going to get organised today and get all the birthday presents I need for the next few weeks and the girls "baby" presents, some sort of Barbie doll for DD1, a tool set for DD2 (love her!) and some books for DD3. Am also going to get a teddy for the baby from the girls. I saw these lovely teddies and blankets in a wee market stall a while back that are personalised with the babies name and birth date am going to have a search for them as well, they would make good presents too.

We are 95% certain of this boys name now and it is nothing that was on our original list!!!

OP posts:
Carikube · 18/04/2010 09:04

SK sorry you don't have the help you need nearby.

DH tried getting up this morning to give DD breakfast (after my ranting yesterday) and found that he couldn't actually get up. He's still in bed waiting for painkillers to kick in before he tries getting up again - he thinks he may have a hernia which is just brilliant timing as he can't lift anything. So much for me taking it easy at the end of the pg!!

AnAngelWithin · 18/04/2010 09:10

Morning ladies. Hope you are well. My bump measuredment is 43 inches. My embarrasing lump had flared up again this morning Doctors tomorrow again then I suppose....sigh....

SK, at you being a size 8 before!! Sorry about the pain. Not long to go though. Whats you baby name then? We are still soooooooooo stuck for a boys name. The one DH likes I can't stand and the one I like, he hates. Can't win!

Kat did you get the border to stick in the end??

Pamelat about MW!!

Tomlin hope you enjoyed your indian!

Squirtsmum hope you got on ok with DPs nephew. Bless him.

Forces, ML and Luckyc, hope you are all well.

The kids are totally exhausted today! FIL came and stole them about 1.30 yesterday while I got on a cleaned the floors downstairs and put sealant round the bath. Didn't do any painting yesterday though. I plodded round to their house afterwards and enjoyed an afternoon sat in the sun! The kids ran ragged outside til 7pm! DH came and picked us up in the car after work and we went and (naughty!!) got fish and chips for a late tea on the way home!! Was nice not to have to cook to be honest after a nice afternoon! The kids are all colouring and doing some bits of homework ready for back to school tomorrow! They have even gone and got their uniforms and school bags ready already bless them!! The boys have stripped their beds and they are in the wash on the final spin now before I put them on the line!

Right, off to finish the bathroom I think. Should get it done today if I start now and take it steady!

Sassles · 18/04/2010 10:31

Hi All,

My this thread moves fast.

Jamesandthegiantbanana - I can relate. I was a 22 before being PG. My bump is all out to the front though, so quite obviously a preggy belly, but only for the last wee while. Still I have only had one stranger brave enough to ask when my due date was and that was a shop assistance when I was buying a grobag, so quite safe territory! Will need to look out a measuring tape, but scared to.

myangelwithin we can't agree on boys names either. I love Will & Harrison and DH loves Hector! We've settled on agreeing to Samuel, Harvey or Nathaniel. Think Harvey is maybe winning for me, but my family don't like it. They keep saying Harvey Wallbanger and talking about a James Stewart film with an imaginary rabbit called Harvey.

Carikube That's awful news about the possible hernia. I would be totally irrationally annoyed with my DH if that happened now. I'm such a nice wife! I really hope he is ok.

I was watching Over the rainbow last night and looked down and my top had a big wet patch where my nipple had been secretly secreting wet stuff!! Anyone else had this? Been paranoid about it since. I still have a week left of work and will be mortified if this happens at work. Time to take breast pads in my bag methinks!

I spent most of yesterday doing housework whilst DH finnished some painting, but back now hurting today. I've been so lucky with PG so far, but my hips are starting to really hurt at night. I have so much sympathy for those of you really suffering with SPD.

My friend was due 21st April and she texted me this morning to say she has a wee girl 6 pounds 8 yesterday. Magdalena Elizabeth. Sooo jealous and so pleased for her too. I am just over 37 weeks and really hope this baby doesn't get much bigger. Scan last week said 6, 12, but this is apparently normal?!

I need to buy a baby carrier, but can anyone recommend one that would be suitable for a larger lady? I'm not really into the slings, although the babsling looks ok, just unsure if it would fit. I know there is a Tomy plus size carrier. Anyone bought this? Are there any high street shops that sell these where you can try them on? I tried the Tomy normal carrier in tesco, but it is on the small size, although very hard to tell with big bump in the way.

AnAngelWithin · 18/04/2010 10:53

sassles the wilkinet carrier with the extra long straps are very good. I had one with dd2 and loved it. Gave it away though

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 18/04/2010 10:55

Sassles - we had the Bushbaby Cocoon for DD which I liked a lot and I didn't have any problems with it fitting (am also a larger lady). It was pretty comfortable as well.

SquirtsMum · 18/04/2010 10:56

Morning all. Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend and the sun is shining brightly for you all

Tomlin - Wish I'd read your post last night, I was hungry and didn't know what I wanted, an Indian would have been perfect!!

AnAngel Am suitably impressed with the bathroom efforts, really should re-tile ours but DP won't let me near any form of DIY, nothing to do with the fact that he feels he should do it he just knows I'd do it better than him hehehe

DP's nephew was a delight, watched loads of stoopid TV, enough to melt our brains, had a pizza and then when DP came home, they decided to play fight till 1am! Nephew is shattered but happy yhits morning, just waiting for his mum to come pick him up and DP is half asleep on the sofa as I decided to watch the GP in bed this morning

Weather is a bit rubbish today so think I'll be doing some cleaning and cooking, already got a hankering for cottage pie tonight and the cupboards seem to have enough ingredients for me to make Fifteens.... DP will think it's his birthday!!

Been awake for a fair few hrs already and for some reason have only just remembered I'm pregnant (I tried washing up - couldn't get close enought to sink to do it comfortably and then decided to put something in the attic involving me climbing onto a chair - DP shouted and helped me down!), anyone else have moments were they forget about the bump and do silly things they shouldn't?

xxxx

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 18/04/2010 13:31

Hi all, it's gorgeous out again, feeling very lucky after all the snow and grimness of earlier in the year. Hope this is what summer's going to be like.

I've been out in the garden today planting out some bedding plants, hoping to get a bit of colour going before baby arrives so that I can sit out there with her and have something nice to look at.

Sassles, not sure about front carriers but I've ordered a pouch sling off eBay (which I can hopefully bf in as I only really have success with the football hold and it's really hard to feed like that in public when you haven't got a stack of sofa cushions for support)

We still can't decide on any names, I'm so frustrated! I have some I like, he has a couple he likes, but there's none we both like, so I feel like we're going to have to compromise by choosing a name we both feel just okay about. What makes it worse is that mil screws her face up at every bloody name we mention. She has actually suggested we use her own name which I'm still a bit about. lol - Anyone else struggling with names?

AnAngelWithin · 18/04/2010 13:52

yes james!!! we are struggling really badly!! Theres lots of girls names we like, its just a case of picking one, though we are pretty set on Willow. Boys names on the other hand are getting to be a bone of contention at the moment!! I like Blake, DH hates it. He likes Brandon. I hate it! Other than that we have NOTHING. At all!!

Carikube · 18/04/2010 14:09

Sassles I've been leaking for a good 2-3 months now already - mainly at night where I sleep on my side so squash my boobs. I've been wearing a bra at night which helps though it is now making my boobs a bit uncomfortable so I might have a night off tonight and just sleep on a towel. I do however have the odd day when I get leakage (as DH embarrassingly pointed out to me the other day as I hadn't noticed ). I think wearing breastpads is the only real way to avoid embarrassment.

DD is being sorely neglected today as DH is flaked out on the sofa (I know he's in pain but I am slightly miffed about the fact that this means that I seem to be expected to do everything as I'm not exactly swinging from the rafters either) and I'm not doing anything particularly entertaining for her either. Poor child - at least she's got nursery to go to tomorrow so might get to do something interesting then....

sweetkitty · 18/04/2010 14:26

I am of the opinion should should NEVER discuss names with anyone in RL especially family.

If you mention ANY name the chances are someone will try and put you off it or know someone else who they don't like that has that name.

DD1 is Abigail (Abbie) quite straightforward and was our girls name. When we told people the name we got loads of Abbey National, Westminster Abbey, Scabby Abbie and the downright "I don't like it" with DD2 we told noone her name until after she was born, we got a few s and "where did you get THAT from?"(erm the bible Mum) anyway the point I am trying to make is it's a lot harder to be horrible to a name once a baby is born. I am sure we will get a few s once DS is born. A name is VERY personal and it's hard enough getting two people to agree on one nevermind extended family.

Have just ordered a load of bits off Next and am now looking at bathrooms

OP posts:
Hobnobfanatic · 18/04/2010 15:15

James - is that kind of sling okay? I thought there had been a recall recently, as there had been some baby deaths from suffocation. Not meant to be great with posture, either. I could be wrong, but I thought that kind of sling was to be avoided.

We've all agreed on a name finally, but it's the same name as a friend's 8 mo baby, She lives a couple of hours away, so we only meet up three or four times a year, though we're in phone and email contact regularly. Our choice of name is spelt differently. Do you think it's sensitive? Another friend said she'd be chuffed if someone chose the same name as her, btu I'm not sure. If we ask her if it's okay and she says no, we'll be utterly stumped. If we go ahead and she's upset, I'd feel awful.... Any ideas?

And how are your DPs? I laughed when I read the Letter to My Placenta in the Guardian yesterday. I chucked the paper to DP - he read it and cried! Then he cried when he read one of DD's old books - Mole and the Baby Bird! He's soooooo emotional at the moment, bless him!

myfirstbump · 18/04/2010 16:50

Fruity, you are officially the queen of replies! How do you manage to remember everything?

Sad news about the pushchair - the handle's broken so we have to take it back and swap it. The shop is in Glasgow, but we're passing through there on Saturday on our way to Aberdeen for a wedding on Sunday so we'll take it ourselves. I figured that way we don't have to hang around waiting for more collections/deliveries, and we'll be able to check it before we take it away again.

Apart from that, the baby's room is pretty much done now. Just need to stock up on muslins, and pack my hospital bag! I want to do that by the weekend, just in case of early appearances while we're away (although 4 weeks isn't that likely I hope). I don't know why I think going away will have any effect apart from Sod's Law.

We're having loads of naming issues too. We're pretty settled on Oscar for a boy, with 2 or 3 back ups if he doesn't look like one. If it's a girl, we'll have a problem. We've got a couple of 'compromise' names that we like but don't feel like they're the one like Oscar.

Hobnob - I have a friend just like that. She has an 18mo with an amazing name, but I'd feel a bit weird using it. We're in enough contact that I could only get the name from them, but not enough that they'll be around each other often enoguh for it to be weird. But I think if you're spelling it differently and you don't have tons of face to face time you might get away with it. How unusual/common is the name - could you have got it from elsewhere? I suppose as long as you love it it doesn't matter really.

SK - I'm with you on keeping family out of it. I accidently let slip a couple of weeks ago, and now I keep getting 'you know, I'm not sure about xxx'. As if that's helpful

Sorry for essay. DH is asleep on the sofa so I haven't actually spoken for a couple of hours and it's all fallen out on here.

Enjoy the rest of your Sundays!

pigleychez · 18/04/2010 16:51

Kat- Hope your Mum and Grandma get back home ok. Well done your Mum on that drive.

Its such a nightmare this Ash cloud now. My parents were due back home today but obviously cant. Earlist flight they can get back is Wed and thats if the flights are actually flying! They have now booked themselves onto a Ferry on Tuesday.(Thanks Five ) Takes 8 hours as opposed to a short flight but hey. They then plan to get a train back to mine as they left thier car at our house (nr the airport!)
Spent ages this morning trying to find the best train for them to get without lots of changes etc.
Dad is quite enjoying the extra days holiday, but my mum (as ever) is having a major panic attack over it.

Sassles- not leaking yet but when BF DD I found i leaked more when I was warm or it was a hot day.

SK- glad you have decided on a name
As you know my DD is an Abigail too- Lovely name My PIL response when we told them before her birth was to go on about an old neighbour they knew called "Gabby Abby". It really upset me and ive made a point of only calling her Abigail since she was born.
This time round we just say we havent decided yet even though we have a favourite.

Hobnob- We both liked a name that was our second choice for DD but a friend called her LO it 6mths ago. We have deliberated over too but since have heard a few other new babies called it so have pretty much discounted it for being too popular here.

My DH is abit more the opposite. He doesnt seem as interested in this one. Im sure he is. I know hes busy at work at the mo and stressing about giving his bestman speech next weekend so im so that doesnt help. He just isnt so excited i think. Sometimes it upsets me but im sure he will be when the time comes.

Been out in the garden today and planted some strawberry plants with DD. Just have to remember to water them now!
Quick trip round Tescos too but I find walking more than 10mins or so gives me shooting pains down below, really making me stop in my tracks!
