pamelat · 16/04/2010 20:19

Congrats ML our 3rd baby already and its only mid April!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 16/04/2010 20:26

Ooh, lovely news and lovely name ML, congratulations to you and your family!

newmomma · 16/04/2010 20:32

YAY!!!!!!!!! So exciting!

Well done ML

Carikube · 16/04/2010 20:48

Congratulations ML! MDM I was paranoid about tearing but as I ended up with forceps there was not really any choice about having an episiotomy. They did say though that having an epi doesn't guarantee that you won't tear as well . I don't know about the healing times comparatively; I couldn't really sit down without a cushion for about a week/10 days and I certainly couldn't feel my pelvic floor for about that amount of time as well but I guess what will happen will happen....

TomlinTowers · 16/04/2010 21:05

Hurray!! Many congrats ML - and a beautiful name too! One hour labour sounds good - you did say that you delivered fast after your waters broke!

MDM - from what I can remember, the medical advice is that if you need intervention then it is better to have an epi rather than tear, because it is easier for the docs to stitch it up again as it is a nice neat edge (yuk), and they can control how much is cut, but I don't know how much of that is medically proven fact. I had an epi with my DS1 because the cord was round his neck so had to grab his head with forceps to get him out enough to release the cord. I healed really quickly and really well, with no problems, so if I have the option I'll have an epi this time if needed.

James - I still enjoy being pg too! although I am very lucky because I don't have too many problems when carrying the baby. Just getting tired now and feeling very stretched and achy, but nothing I can't cope with, and see it as an excuse to sit down a bit more!

Whoever was saying about baby movements - I have found them tailing off in the day. Seems to be that whenever I am busy and moving around, baby is quiet, but the minute I sit down, it's like LO wakes up and starts doing aerobics in the bump. Pulling some very strange shapes!

We had a lovely day today at the seaside - was so warm I couldn't believe it! Hope everyone else is enjoying the sunshine too!

memorylapse · 16/04/2010 21:12

Quick post I went into proper labour about 5 ish and straiit away contractions were fierce. Started pushing at 6.10 and olivia was born 7 mins later. She literaly shot out! The midwife was just opening the delivery pack turned round and olivia was born! She is tiny! Breastfed for 45 mins straight after delivery. I love her so much! Despite being on synto I had no pain relief. My placenta is a medical freak. It has a massive cyst in the middle and they have photographf it for teaching!

sweetkitty · 16/04/2010 21:25

ML - huge congratulations, I love her names too. An hour would do me just fine too enjoy snuggling your new baby hope the diabetes and everything settles down for you now. Did your DP make the birth in the end and when are you being "released" I bet you cannot wait to get home

I had a bad second degree tear with DD1 at the time I didn't feel it, it was a bit of a nightmare being stitched up again especially after the placenta issues but the stitches healed fine TBH and TMI I am a bit different down there but there is nothing that could have been done since she came out like superman, hand first. She was only 6lbs 3ozs as well.

DP gone out for the evening it's his best friends leaving do, he has taken his car though and I have to keep my mobile with me at all times, had to force him out the door.

I STILL have this stitch/pulled muscle thing, I did hang out the washing this morning that might have done it, am so frustrated with this not being able to do anything.

Anyway enough of my miseries hope everyone else is doing ok, who is up next I wonder?

OP posts:
Den26 · 16/04/2010 21:46

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Forces, Lucky and ML

Heffa - sorry you had a bit of a scare.

SK - hope your taking it easy, i've been getting stitch like pains in my sides too.

Rachel - hope you get your mice problem sorted!

kateyjane · 16/04/2010 21:57

Congratulations Memory - Hope you are now having a lovely time getting to know each other.

SK - You poor thing Hope the stitch/pulled muscle pain settles down soon. Really don't know how you are managing.

Tomlin - of your day at the seaside. I love taking my DCs to the coast, there is no nicer day to spend in the sunshine

MDM - I know I've been lucky, but have had small tears with each of my children. Each time I was given the choice of a few stitches or to let it heal naturally. I choose the natural option and haven't had any problems, but they were fairly minor.

Well I had a growth scan and my weekly consultant appointment today. Things are looking up! Bile acid levels are remaining constant (ish) at around 50 and my HB level has risen to 9.1. So they are happy to let me go to 37 weeks. I now don't have an appointment until 7/5/10 for a stretch and sweep, then I'll be 36+5, they'll see what happens over the weekend and induce on the Monday if nothing. It is DD2's 5th birthday on 9/5, so she is hoping the baby will arrive to share it with her It will be a relief not to spend most of each Friday in the Antenatal unit! Although it feels strange to have a definate timescale. I need to get organised now!

Sorry for the lack of personal replies (again)I am thinking about everyone, especially those who are struggling. Feel very of those who are enjoying being pregnant. My SIL is due at the beginning of June and she has the most perfect neat little bump and is positively glowing! Think the only time I 'glow' is after the exertions of getting out of the bath

Hope evryone has a lovely sunny weekend and plenty of rest and relaxation

I am really looking forward to hearing the birth stories - have a lobely weekend getting to know your new arrivals

rachelfruitloop · 16/04/2010 22:18

Hi Ladies!

First off, huge congratulations to Lucky, Forces and ML on the birth of their little girls! Really looking forward to hearing more about it! ML it was great getting your updates, I kept checking in! How odd about the cyst in the placenta!

Thanks to all for your sympathies about my mice issue. DH and I had a pretty big row (in front of DS, we've never done that before!) and I told him I was going to call an exterminator - he promptly went out and got some mouse traps and supplies for filling holes. Nothing like the threat of spending money on a professional service to light a fire under him!

I ended up cleaning out my bedroom and closet and found the end of a pack of digestive biscuits under my bedside table from my morning sickness days definitely mouse-masticated. I also saw a possible point of entry hole in in the corner of the closet. I was glad that I didn't see any droppings or shredded paper. I made sure everything is nice and uncluttered and my closet doors shut tight. Last night at about 3am DH and I heard the mouse trying its hardest to get out! It kept going for about an hour and then DH got up and got a trap with peanut butter inside and put it in the closet. We didn't hear much after that.

This morning the peanut butter was gone but the trap hadn't been sprung. Cheeky bugger! DH had sealed up holes in my closet and in the floorboards in the dining room today and set more traps, also put a grate over the ventilation holes in the chimney breast wall in DS's room. I had a look under DS's bookcase and a mouse had started a stockpile of tasty morsels under there along with droppings. I cleaned it all up immediately even though it was DS's bed time, and he helped me have a really good tidy up and investigation for any trace of food crumbs. We shall see what happens tonight now that holes have been sealed and suspect areas cleaned. Though I haven't seen any in the kitchen, I went through and made sure all food is sealed and put up and cleaned behind everything. So hopefully they'll go away now. I am really feeling all the work I did now, I am beyond exhausted.

On the bright side, I heard from my manager today and he said it's fine if I only work 12 hours this weekend instead of my usual 16.5, and that I can take an annual leave day on next Saturday for my last day before my leave starts. So just 2 shortened shifts to work this weekend and then I'm off! Hooray!

Gils and Cupcake hooray for you being finished with work now!!!

Pamelat how lovely that your DH came home early and took your LO swimming! 2 hour nap!

Angel I am in awe of your resealing the tub and painting!!! You're a superwoman!

Hormonalmum it does sound rather suspect about your missing car seat, but glad you were given a replacement even though it doesn't match!

BRB I borrowed my friend's Mei Tei Babyhawk sling for my DS and it was great! It didn't cause much strain on my shoulders and back and looked so cute, I loved the fabric. I wouldn't mind getting one of those! I also agree with you that it's easier to deal with sleep deprivation when the weather's nice!

Pigley Glad your DD seems to be feeling better. I can relate to the I'm over the wanting to be pregnant thing, now lets get back to normal feeling. Though this morning I was thinking about how I'll have to apply for the baby's British and American passports as soon as we get a birth certificate and remembering how cute DS looks in his photos in his as a newborn and how amazing it is to see their new name in official documents. For some reason, that's made me feel really excited about having a newborn again!

Schipo the pains you were having sound a bit like maybe baby is pinching a nerve, but not sure? Thought of you today as my DS is obsessed with this CBeebies show Alphablocks and there's one part where they randomly spell out "schipo" If you want to see it, it's the episode called Cha-cha-cha here!

SK sorry that you're having a muscular pain on the side of your bump, that sounds really unpleasant! Hobnob sorry you're suffering so much today!

Heffa and Tomlin sounds like you both had a lovely day, glad you were able to make the most of it!

MDM I had an episiotomy and a tear with DS and I think some say it's better to tear, maybe because you might not tear through all the layers of tissue? But then, a tear isn't controlled and could be quite a difficult shape. Sorry for TMI but my tear was 3rd degree and from where the epi left off to my anus, happened because of the forceps around my DS's giant head. TBH it didn't take that long to recover from, like Carikube said about a week or 10 days. I am concerned about perineum weakness in delivering this one, especially if he's as big as they predict. I went over my birth plan with the consultant midwife yesterday and it was great as she wrote everything in my notes and highlighted the managing of the pushing stage to try to avoid tears in light of my previous experience. Also she said that because of my previous tearing/epi a doctor would stitch me if I tore and not a midwife, which I am relieved about (if it's true!) as I know that the quality of stitching has a lot to do with how well you recover. Not to say I think a MW would botch it, but I'm just more comfortable with a doctor doing it again.

MyFirst very exciting that your pushchair arrived!!!

DH wanted to know out of curiosity how big around my belly is, so he measured it and it's 47 inches around my bump where my navel is!! Will I ever get back to a 29 inch waist!? Pigley I love your latest bump pic on the FB group! Makes me happy to see a similar bump to mine!

KateyJane glad to hear that your consultant appointment and scan went well today and that they're happy to let you go to 37 weeks!

I hope everyone has a good weekend and manages to rest up! I wonder if any more babies will arrive over the weekend?!

pigleychez · 16/04/2010 22:20

ML- Woohoo! Congrats to you all Beautiful names and cant wait to hear more

Newmomma- DD had Hand,Foot and Mouth in the autumn. Took ages for her to be able to eat properly again because of the blisters in her mouth. Hope hes better soon.

Heffa- paddling on the moors sounds lovely

Tomlin- Day at the beach sounds fab too

SK- Rest up and I hope your side improves soon

Kateyjane- Glad you had a good appointment.

Well the workmen never did start! Need to reschedule for next week now- Grrrr !

Went round the neighbours for drinks tonight. Was home at 9.30 as that was as long as DD could last, bless her. Was nice to have a good chat with them.

Came home to both our mobiles beeping with voicemails. We didnt take them with us and forgot to turn the answerphone on. MIL was panicking that something had happened and she couldnt get hold of us, so had to ring her back to reassure her. She was very worried, bless her!

Well as DD went to bed a few hours later tonight we are hoping for a lay in in the morning. What are the chances!!??

booboomonster · 17/04/2010 07:00

Congratulations to lucky, forces and ML! Great news! also really enjoyed the updates, ML, so thanks for that.

Rachel we've had mice problems on and off so you have my sympathy - I came out in a rash the last time I was so stressed. But we've had no sightings for a few weeks now. Sounds like you are doing all the right things. I have become obsessive "mouse police" - scanning floor/surfaces for droppings, or for food dropped by kids. But what else can you do? Good luck!

Well having had a lovely few days off my DH, DD and DSD got stranded in Ireland, so my free rims haz been extended to a week. Really missing them now. They've had to get a ferry so I am planning to drive up to Holyhead to get them - five and a half hour journey. They don't get in till half midnight do there's not much choice. I am a bit worried about energy levels but planning lots of stops. I'm only 34 wks but will take mat notes!

Anyway, hope everyones well and has lovely weekends! X

booboomonster · 17/04/2010 07:20

Sorry meant free time - rims? Blimmin phone!

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 17/04/2010 09:24

Congratulations to memory lapse! Enjoy your new little girl. Wonder how long we'll have to wait for the next arrival?

AnAngelWithin · 17/04/2010 09:54

morning all.

Congrats to ML and Lucky and Forces!! 3 Girls!! woohoo!!

Pigley, my nan does that all the time if she can't get hold of me, goes into blind panic! Hope you got your lie in!

Rachel, I am intrigued now, I will have to go measure my belly now haha.

Kateyjane, glad things are 'stable' for you.

SK take it easy! Easier said than done with lots of kids though I know!

James, no i am with you..I have got far too much still to do for now so will be happy for baby to stay put for now!

What are you up to this weekend then ladies?
I need to finish painting the bathroom. Just one wall left to do, ceiling and touching up paint in corners/edges then reseal round the bath then I'm done. Apart from putting all the shelves and cabinets back on the wall but thats neither here nor there. I did another coat on the tiles yesterday and 3 walls. Didn't rush or strain but god, my back really hurts today!! Might have to resort to just doing the low effort jobs today! Though I want it done now!! DH is no use with decorating. And anyway, he is working all weekend and spent his 2 days off this week revising for an exam on monday and finishing his assignment. The kids are playing for now, my cup of teas gone, washings on the line, suppose I better crack on!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 17/04/2010 10:17

BRB and Tomlin - I'm with you on enjoying the sunshine, the weather makes such a difference to my mood. It is such a gorgeous day here today, bright blue sky, not a single cloud in sight. DH and I had a lovely lazy breakfast in the garden sitting in the sunshine. Didn't even need a coat - it was like being on holiday!

Rachel - glad you seem to be getting to the bottom of the mouse problem. Did you tell your DH about the leftover digestive biscuits?!! Funny that you mentioned measuring around your bump. Dsis and I were doing the same thing last weekend, so DH decided to measure his waist too and was hopping mad to find that he was still bigger than me even though I'm 8 months pg (he measured 36 inches and I was 35!).

Booboo - I don't envy you the drive up to Holyhead at all. I hope you've got loads of good music to listen to.

Pigley - hope you got the lie-in you wanted!

Thanks everyone for all the comments about tears / epis. I think I'll just wait and see what happens, it doesn't sound like something you can really plan for in advance.

Thanks to our friends who came the other evening, who were having a big clearout for moving house, we now have a moses basket and stand, a huge bag full of baby clothes for 3 months+, a floormat /babygym thing, musical cot mobile, bath support and some other bits and pieces. I haven't gone through the bag of clothes yet, as have been at work, so quite looking forward to that job to see what's there! All I need to get is a new mattress for the moses basket, and then we're all sorted I think.

Main job for this weekend is packing hospital bag, and will suggest that DH has a practice at putting the carseat in the car.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 17/04/2010 10:25

ML - congratulations Gorgeous names!

MDM - I had a third degree tear with DD and the healing time wasn't too awful. It didn't really hurt that much when it was happening and the surgeons did a great job stitching it up. Obviously it was painful for a while afterwards but I could sit down OK. I've heard that tearing can heal better than an episiotomy but I really wouldn't know the stats.

I love the sunshine, so nice to just be able to sit around outside. I can't do much else but would rather sit in the sun than inside. We're quite tempted to go to the beach but I want to put the tent up sometime so I can see what kind of condition it's in.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

pamelat · 17/04/2010 10:39

Oh I wanted to get in on the measuring thing I am 40 inches!! Normally 29 too.

Cricky.

I am waiting in for the midwife to come and check my blood pressure, am told she should hopefully come before 2pm.

DH has taken DD out for the morning as I am sure it doesnt do my bp any good to have them around . Its such a beautiful day, I may go and sit out to revise in the garden.

I feel very relaxed so will be intersting to see what bp is. Anyone have any tips for bringing it down? Or if its just pregnancy induced am I stuck with it?

Carikube · 17/04/2010 10:52

Morning all!
Had a really bad night last night as for some reason DD was up for half of it. She'd only go back to sleep if I was cuddling her which got really uncomfortable and meant I couldn't sleep.
Then when she woke up properly this morning and I dumped her on DH, he did his usual trick of just trying to keep her in bed with him because he wanted to sleep some more so I ended up having to get up and get her breakfast as she was getting so upset. Cue lots of strops from me as I have had to point out to DH again that it would be nice if for once he actually got his a*%$ out of bed and sorted her out so that I could sleep some more. Grrr! And although she was awake a lot in the night, she is absolutely buzzing this morning and showing no signs of tiredness....typical!

Oh well, I suppose it's getting me in to practise for when the new one arrives

Hope everyone has a good weekend and enjoys the sunshine...

pamelat · 17/04/2010 11:02

Carikube, sorry you had bad night. I would give your DH a talking to, I have told mine that heavily pregnant mums do not get up at the weekend

newmomma · 17/04/2010 12:02

I was 42 inches at least a week ago...

pigleychez · 17/04/2010 12:04

Morning all.

Well no lay in for me In fact the opposite! DD was very unsettled last night and kept waking every 30 mins or so as shes so bunged up. I ended up laying on the floor in her room next to her bed and napping inbetween her wakes. Her floor is very unconfortable with a big bump! Eventually managaed to get a 4 hour block of sleep before she very grumpily woke for the day. Shes very full of cold today and very sorry for herself.
Guess its all good practice for the newborn!

BooBoo- Hope the drive is ok. Its looking doubtful that my parents will get back from thier holiday tomorow too. They are in Jersey for a long weekend and due back tomorow afternoon. Have to see if they lift the flight ban or not.

Angel- Dont go crazy with the painting!

Rachel- Make sure you get your DH on the Mouse case this weekend!

MDM- I had a Epi and a 3rd degree tear with DD and didnt find it too bad really. Just had to sit down slowly! Plenty of baths with tea tree oil helped.

Pamlet- My BP went high towards the end with DD. Was monitored more but told it was quite common. My appointment on Thursday it had crept up again so have to see her weekly now.

Carikube- Sypmathes on the bad night! [Yawn]
I too was abit peeved when DH was fast asleep in our comfy bed when I was laying on the floor! He did realise at about 2am and order me back to bed. Lucky sod though, that was when she slept her big chunk so he got to come back into bed.

Nice sunny day.. Just done the supermarket shop which blooming kills by the time we get to the checkout!
Plan to get out in the garden after some lunch and stain the rest of the decking. Be nice to finally get it finished.
DH bought a new BBQ so we plan to test it out for dinner tonight- First one of the year!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 17/04/2010 12:37

Carikube and Pigley - sorry you both had such a bad night It's so frustrating when they're up all night and then have tonnes of energy. How?!?

I probably shouldn't measure myself, might be a bit scary!

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 17/04/2010 16:57

47 inches here! Feel like I'm going to explode!
caricube, my DH tried a very similar thing this morning. He came down looking very sheepish after I stropped downstairs with DD2 at 6.35am. I then got just over another hour in bed.

Hobnobfanatic · 17/04/2010 17:01

I'm going to re-measure - first attempt says 49 inches! I can barely walk, though...
