Meant to say pigley - hope your parents make it home soon.

And I want to join in the bump measuring game, but I also can't find a tape measure.

cupcakefairy · 18/04/2010 17:43

Hi all I can't find a tape measure either, hmph. Bump has definitely dropped though and inding it very strange to need to pee every 15 mins...have never been like that in my life and would only go about 3 times a day!!

Re names, absolutely agree with SK that family or anyone should not be told..they will always say something to put you off. We haven't told any family our choices but while my MIL and SIL were telling us what names they liked our girl's choice was mentioned so that was good

hobnob I agree with myfirstbump about loving the name. Friends of ours used our favourite boys name about 4 months ago...immediately we were like 'we can't use it now' but we've since decided we probably will...we both love it & it just 'feels' like our son's name; that's all that matters really. Your friends don't 'own' the name.

We have 3 boy choices (with one favourite) and only one girl choice but it's been our firm favourite throughout so it prob will be that but I want another one just incase we change our minds when we see baby sympathise with all you who can't agree!!

And for the record I think Abigail is a gorgeous name; it's my goddaughter's name and she's lovely

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 18/04/2010 17:55

I may be wrong but I think I read that the investigation was because of 14 deaths of infants in slings over a period of ten years, in America. I think as long as you don't let the baby overheat, aren't keeping them in there for hours, and you're checking that their chin isn't so tucked in that they can't breathe etc then there's no reason not to use slings. There's no way I could bf in a front carrier.

I wouldn't worry too much about your choice of name hobnob, if you don't see her that often then does it really matter? One of the names we may have to settle on is my bil's nasty ex-wife's name!

sweetkitty · 18/04/2010 18:14

hobnob - I think that is fine if you love the name then you love it.

pigley - Abigail is a brilliant name DD1 think her actual name is Abbie Gail middle surname bless her, don't know why I am being all secretive my girls names are there in full on my profile page is anyone wants a nose!

myfirstbump - Oscar is a lovely name, am very of all of you that have the babies room all ready, I am squeezing past the Moses basket every night now. Our boys room will probably be the vacated big girls room if once the extension is built.

We had a shortlist of 3 boys names, Elliot, Marcus and Matthew, even did a MN pole. Elliot has always been my fav, Marcus was DP's and Matthew was a middle of the road name, as it happens it looks like his name is none of these now. Our girls name was Isabella in fact the bump was called Isabella until that 24 week scan.

ML - congratulations, she's absolutely beautiful (pics on fb)

Hope ML, Lucky and Forces are getting on well with their lo's.

Sorry, no time for personals, just off to bath dd who is covered in paint . Had a day out shopping with dd and dh and needed an hours sleep on the settee afterwards. Only 34 weeks, not sure I can take much more, absolutely aching.

Hope everyone is well.

pamelat · 18/04/2010 19:41

Hello all, everyone sounds more upbeat, must be the weather and the new arrivals of course

I had a funny moment today as my bp is down so my scan at the hospital on tues may result in them trying to turn DS (still breech), I was talking to my mum about "what ifs" to include what if I end up having c section because the turning distresses baby etc etc. She was saying that it would be ok as she would have DD and DH could start paternity leave and come and be with me at the hospital and I said "oh dont think he would want to waste his leave to sit with me all day", had forgotten there would be a baby, his son!!!, there too!! It was very odd.

I dont think I have fully accepted we are having a baby as just focussed on DD having a baby brother and what he can buy for her

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 18/04/2010 20:51

Hobnob - Sounds fine to use the name. If you love the name, that's what matters. I always discount names that friends/family have used but I'm a bit obsessive funny about that.

ML - Olivia is gorgeous

LuckyC and Forces - hope everything is OK and you're enjoying it all

Pamelat - good luck for your scan on Tuesday, hopefully he'll turn before then.

pigleychez · 18/04/2010 21:27

ML- The photos are lovely. Cant wait to see more

Pamlet- I dont think the reality has hit me either yet!

Been getting lots of tightenings today.. This evening has been particually bad. DH felt my tummy and was shocked by how hard and tight it felt and said that must really hurt. - Hell yeah!

memorylapse · 18/04/2010 22:04

hi all..Im back from hospital and so shattered!

will upload some piccies of my own as soon as I can..Olivia is a bit of a snacker so seems to spend most of her time on the boob so not a lot of time at the mo..feeding as I type!

the birth story..

went over to delivery on thurs morning..had first pessary at 12..got quite excited as had mild tightnings all day and a show..examination at 7 showed I was between 2-3 cms dilated..so not in established labour but I was convinced I would go into labour in the night..sadly not..had an uncomfortable night trying to sleep on a delivery bed..poor dh was in a chair..
Friday morning..one of the consultants came and broke my waters..still nothing and dh and I observed that as my waters drained..my bump almost vanished! we began to suspect that the monster diabetic baby predicted was way off the mark!..

12 lunchtime..decision was made to attach me to a synto drip but all I got were mild contractions...until at 4 oclock it was realised that the venflon in my hand had tissued to was not going into my vein..the drip was swapped over and almost straight away I had fast furious and intensely painful contractions...I got myself up on the bed and kneeled against the pillows leaning over the back...almost straight away I needed to push..midwife said if I felt like I needed to push..to go for it as she could see the head!..I pushed once and felt DD move down..I shouted to the midwife that I thought she was coming out5..midwife was getting the delivery pack ready and I pushed again and DD shot out..head body and all!..midwife said she turned round to deliver the head..to be greeted by a baby!
I could hear DH crying and saying "oh my god..she has so much hair"...

the placenta came out quite quickly but did not look right..it had a massive yellow cyst in the middle of it...its been photographed for teaching purposes and my consultant thinks my placenta might have been packing up..hence the hypos..so Im so glad she was delivered..

we held her and cried..almost straight away she was rooting so I put her to the breast and she fed for 40 mins..synto drip was left up for an hour to help me contract down..

its so nice to be home..and I swear that if they could bottle that feeking you get when you hold your new baby they would have an instant cure for depression

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 18/04/2010 23:10

Aaw, lovely to read your birth story ML, well done.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 19/04/2010 07:37

Lovely birth story ML, glad you're home and feeling good

Hollyoaks · 19/04/2010 08:32

Morning all.

ML - lovely birth story, if only we could all go that quick. Congratulations on the successful bf too. Beautiful pics on fb too.

Pamelat - I bet your glad bp has gone down, even after all the faff with the mw. Hopefully baby will behave itself and turn before your next appointment. Fingers crossed my lo is more obviously head down when I see the mw this afternoon.

Pigley - ouch, I know the feeling well.

Movements - dh and I were feeling the bump last night when we started to feel little feet or hands dragging along under my skin. It was strong enough to lift dh's hand and keep me awake for a long time last night. Never felt that with dd.

booboomonster · 19/04/2010 08:47

Memorylapse - what a lovely story! It is making me excited, congratulations!

Names - agree best not to tell anyone in RL - DM still doesn't like ours so we've not told anyone else. Feel like we need a second choice in case it's not right. Have 2 boys names but as it looks like a girl that's what we need. I find girls names much harder!

Very sorry for those stranded - thank goodness there was a solution for us! Drive to Holyhead was fine - stopped off en route to see an old friend in Birmingham. Driving time there was 5/6 hours. It was lovely to see them come out - and was pretty chaotic at the port! A bit of blizt spirit with all these other people wAiting for their loved ones! Journey home thru the night was hard - v uncomfy but we all had sleeps yesterday. DD won't stop cuddling and kissing me - and me the same it's a right love in!

Have a good day all. Oh and my bump 44 inches - hoping that's it now but with 5 weeks left who knows?!

X

newmomma · 19/04/2010 09:04

Pamelat SNAP! I'm going for a scan and an ECV tomorrow too...

Are you feeling nervous? I have had so many people telling me horror stories I kept bursting into tears yesterday and didn't manage to finish packing my bag because of it. Must do it today...

Lets hope we're both back on MN by lunchtime having been told our babes are head down rather than in theatre having a c/s!

Great birth story ML - if only we could all manage such quick and easy labours!! Your fb pic is lovely - and you look gorgeous.

Hollyoaks my LO has been going nuts too - I am hoping all the 'alien' type movement is her trying to turn from breech into the proper position. It almost hurt yesterday there was so much pushing and prodding from inside.

I agree with all the comments about NOT telling people in RL your chosen names - even close family members can be insensitive, without meaning to be, and it affects your decision - which it shouldn't. I wish I had a name to keep secret - we still haven't really talked about it - we'll probably do the same as with DS1. Wait and see what he looks like, think it over for ten days and then decide!

I'm going to go off and take an up to date measurement of the bump - it literally feels like I've grown 6 inches in the last few days.

Hope you all had lovely weekends?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/04/2010 09:53

I can sympathise with the feeling nervous and getting upset, I'm finding it hard to sleep because I'm worried about the birth, keep whinging to dp about it and having nightmares.

Last night I dreamed I had vague niggles, mw sent out an ambulance, and the paramedics strapped me to a stretcher which made the pain way worse and tried to give me a massive red tablet which was induction drugs, before anyone had even checked me. I had to escape and when I did the pains all went and it turned out it was just indigestion! Daft dream but shows how much I trust the medical staff...

It's not even the horror stories, I just hate the uncertainty of it all and being out of control. I spoke to a mw, she flippantly said "oh don't worry, you can have an epidural, it'll be fine" Yeah, IF I get to the hospital on time (having acquired childcare etc) IF the mw's take me seriously at the time. IF there's an anaesthetist free, and IF it works!

Bah, stressingggggg

pigleychez · 19/04/2010 10:02

ML- Great that your home and enjoying georgous baby Olivia

Hollyoaks- Im with you on the more vicous movements this time round. I can really see hands and feet but never could with DD.

James- I had an odd dream the other day too. I dreamt that i was told I was pregnant again. Not this baby but another one as well. Doublely pregnant! I was told id give birth then about 4mths later id have to do it again as the next would be due!
Started then panicking that I couldnt cope with a toddler, 4mths old and newborn!
Glad that was just a dream!!!!

Hobnobfanatic · 19/04/2010 10:06

James - threads like these are so useful for realising you're not alone. Reading your post was so reassuring to me! I woke up in a blind panic this morning - couldn't get my breath properly, heart racing... I was trying to explain to DP what it's like: that this huge juggernaut is driving head on to you, and you know it's coming and you can't avoid it. But you can't fully prepare, because you don't know exactly when or how it will hit.... You just know that it's going to hurt and that your life will change forever afterwards.

He is just so excited about meeting the baby, he can't understand the worry! I wish he wasn't so positive sometimes!

But reading ML's birth story, it did bring it all back that although labour is horrible and blardy hard work and stressful blah blah, the end of it is just miraculous and joyous. I have never been so happy as when I held my DD afterwards.

The childcare is worrying me, too. BUt I know people will help out - I'd love to be asked to be part of someone's birth story and look after their kids if they needed help. And, in the worst case scenario, take everyone to hospital with you. and sort it out there. Everything will come good in the end...

Thanks, everyone, for the advice on names. It's a traditional, common name we like - but spelt Welsh (DP is a Welsh speaker and his family are hardcore Welsh!). It's been really hard finding something we all like, including DD, which can be spelt and pronounced by non-Welsh speakers. I think we'll just go for it...

sweetkitty · 19/04/2010 10:11

ML - good story and she is lovely, love her hair I always have blonde baldies! I know that feeling you are talking about too, it is fabulous isn't it? Am glad you are all home and sorted now. I am hoping not to need the drip at all but to be honest the way I am feeling just now I couldn't care less how he comes out as long as he is fine. I have done the dippy hippy homebirth thing and it was fab but this one I just want over and done with.

James - I know what you mean about being nervous and this is my fourth I don't think it ever goes away really, as you say it's the feeling of not being in control that's the worst. I'm sure in a few weeks time we will all be laughing about it! I keep having weird thoughts in the middle of the night, the other day I had decided that the stitch was my placenta failing I mean it was nowhere near it but my sleep deprived brain was working overtime.

newmomma and pamelat - am sending you both lots of turning vibes, plenty of hand and knees and cleaning kitchen floors for you two

booboomonster - am glad you got everyone back home OK, very impressed with all that driving you did I can hardly do the school run

Todays highlights for me are waiting in for a dishwasher repair man, getting new accessories for my bathroom from Next and the usual school/nursery runs. Everyone was aasking me how long I have got left and telling me how tired I looked this morning. Driving is very difficult, the car is big and heavy plus with the bump in the way and teh SPD argh! Still DD1's Rainbows has been cancelled tonight she is upset but I am secretly glad.

OP posts:
pamelat · 19/04/2010 10:29

newmomma I am also tearful at the moment. Most of the time I feel ok and then suddenly I will sob so I think I am worrying about tomorrows scan and possible turning attempt.

Also I have a uni exam on Weds (stupid I know) and I really need to sit it. I cant afford to be having a c-section tomorrow or Weds!! But at same time I know the baby is the most important thing etc, I just want him to hang on for 24 extra hours.

Good luck at the hospital

alle01 · 19/04/2010 11:46

hi all, i've resurfaced. i had contractions on thursday and went to hospital, they said i was in early labour and to go home and wait, friday nothing was happening and baby wasn't moving so went back to hospital, baby is ok, but not coming out any time soon, still lots of braxtons, pains and discomfort, got mw today, see what she says, i am fed up of all this pain and no baby,....

re:baby position, my placenta is up and posterior, apparently ideal place, baby still head down, so down it hurts, and flipping a bit from front to side, but both really good positions for birth, whenever that may be,...

getting my washable nappies today, so exciting, and the best part, they're free, so nappy monthly bill: 0, ain't that great??!!!!

alle01 · 19/04/2010 11:48

oh forgot, congrats on the new babies,... so enviiiious.
i can't believe there is six pages of posts since thursday,...

At work today so just wanted to post quickly to congratulate ML. Lovely story - Congratulations!! I know with your history you've been worried all the way through, so really is great to see a happy result for you. Looking forward to seeing more pictures.

memorylapse · 19/04/2010 12:19

thanks everyone for the lovely comments..we are totally besotted with Olivia..even if she does only sleep if being held..or feeding..midwife has suggested that she feels cold when she goes back in her basket and has suggested that we put a towel over the mattress before the sheet to insulate it and pop a muslin cloth next to me, then in the basket when she goes back in..will try that tonight..DH and I look like corpses today! Olivia is jaundiced due to being early..but they checked her billirubin levels in hospital and they were fine. She is so small she is in micro baby nappies(up to 6lbs) and her newborn stretchsuits drown her so she is in Asda tiny baby!..I need to go and buy her some clothes..

am eagerly looking out for more birth announcements...I was really frightened about being in labour and although yes I wont lie..it was painful..it was quick and I feel as though Im recovering well..Im 1.5 stone lighter than I was at conception..no stitches or anything so apart from the loss..dont feel bad "down there"..boobs are like melons though..ouch..

my mum turned her nose up at all the names we suggested..so we just ignored her!..at the end of the day..you call your child what you want not what family members want
