TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 16/04/2010 09:29

Carikube - I was told that you're less likely to tear second time around, even if you tore first time round. They did tell me that because the scar tissue is weaker, if you do tear a second time round you might heal less well than the first time. Not sure if that's the same situation with an epi though.

Pigley - glad DD is a bit better

ML - love the updates, thinking of you.

SquirtsMum · 16/04/2010 10:08

ML fingers crossed for you, loving the updates

I know babes movement slows down in the last weeks of pregnancy but by how much? Last week (and for the previous 4wks) cuddling in DP every night and talking would send Squirt nuts, the same for the mornings when we'd wake up together. Now... nothing, get odd little movements during the day but thats it, still the required 10 a day, thinking its cos LO has no room to move now I'm 37+3 but then baby paranoia kicks in and the worse of the worst starts running through my head - am I just being silly or should I call the MW?

xxx

SquirtsMum · 16/04/2010 10:10

'cuddling into DP'

Still in bed as I type, tis a wonderful luxury!!

xxx

hormonalmum · 16/04/2010 10:22

Ml - how exciting - keep up the good work.

Squirts mum - my lo's movements have slowed
down too. When I think I should call the mw - it usually starts moving around again. It is not often I feel much in the day, usually morning and evening.

SK - can I ask you about raspberry leaf capsules. I think you said before that you take them. I started mine yesterday and had quite painful and long bh. Do you find that happens? I have only had 2 so far and am a bit scared to have anymore! (had them last time and did not notice anything different)

KaffaCakes · 16/04/2010 10:23

Wow this thread moves quickly!

Well done ML for keeping us all updated, hope it's all going well for you

And congrats to Forces and LuckyC! Lovely names for your beautiful girls. Can't wait to see pics! Hooray for babies!

Pigley- glad your DD is feeling much better, must be a relief with everything else you've got going on!

I've got a week left of work now, can't WAIT to be at home crocheting some blankets and bunting for baby Hopefully the washing machine repairman will be coming again early next week, baby's bedding is still in its packaging and got a ton of vests and sleepsuits to wash too. Otherwise it's hauling the lot to my mother's and spending the day in her garden with a good book!

Does anyone have any exciting weekend plans?

Hobnobfanatic · 16/04/2010 10:33

ML - how do they know what dilation you're at if they won't examine you till 8cm?

Hope you're not in pain - it's been a long, long time! Are you on entonox yet?

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 16/04/2010 10:35

Hormonalmum, don't worry about the rasberry leaf. They may strengthen your BH as they act as a uterine tonic, all a good thing. I'm taking 4-6 a day here, some strong BH's but baby is engaging at 36 weeks. Not bad for a 5th DC.

memorylapse · 16/04/2010 10:40

Hobnob. Meant 8am sorry! Going to be examined again soon baby is looking a bit too cosy at the mo

Hobnobfanatic · 16/04/2010 10:48

ML - oh, I see! Doh!

schipo · 16/04/2010 10:50

Was so busy yesterday no time to post, but time enough to keep up to date with dramatic developments.

LuckyC - wow - congratulations! Sounds like you had an easy birth - looking forward to hearing more of your news. Did your doula get there in time?
Forces - sounds like it went smoothly for you too. Congratulations again!!
ML - you sound in great humour considering you're in the middle of a long labour. I guess you've seen it all before! I'm glued to this thread now waiting for more updates.

Pamelat- hope you're not getting too stressed about developments. I'm sure everything will be fine. You are certainly not alone. My SIL is due imminently with her 5th. Her baby is breech and she has high blood pressure. She's not worried though, she has trained as a doula and is refusing a caesarian!

MDM good luck with your scan - if you're seeing different midwives all the time your fundal height measurements are hardly likely to be reliable. The ones I've seen all start their measurements from a different point. Nice to get an extra scan though!

I've remembered to try the perineal massage a couple of times - not as easy as I'd expected though! In fact its the last thing that I feel like doing. Still, I suppose its worth it.

I had a scare the other night - intermittent period like pains low down, as if baby was pushing further down. Not sure they were BH's though because the didn't effect the whole uterus, which I understand BH's do. Anyway, they went away over night, and except for a few shooting pains in groin if I move too suddenly everything seems to have quietened down. I had been having quite a lot of raspberry leaf tea though, and i've cut down on that since. I'm not due for another month exactly and not prepared mentally or otherwise for anything to happen sooner (despite the interrupted sleep and not being able to tie shoe laces).

alle01 - interesting what you said re position of your baby and sleeping on your back. I'm wondering if you know where your placenta is? There's another theory that baby just faces placenta so maybe that's what's helping keep your baby in place.

pigleychez · 16/04/2010 11:21

ML- These updates are great I Keep popping back on to check.

Anyone want a 20mth old this afternoon????
Good practice for any first timers
Shes being soooo demanding and annoying today! Grrrr.

Bloody workmen are still working on next door so who knows when they will start on mine. Typically it was booked in for today as I was in all day.- What a waste of a day. Bet they will shoot off early being a friday too.

Sorry.. having a moany day today.

memorylapse · 16/04/2010 13:06

Update. No progress from yesterday. Still just 3cm. Have been on a synto drip for an hour if no progress after 4 hours I have to have a section. Baby is just too comfy!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 16/04/2010 14:10

Taken me ages to catch up, god you're a chatty lot!

Congratulations to forces and luckyC, and almost-congratulations to ML, you'll be holding your lo by tomorrow night, no matter what happens! best of luck x

Am I the only one happy to remain pregnant then? Sorry to hear about the people who are thoroughly fed up, I was last time round when ds was soo engaged and I had terrible spd, but this time round I feel so much better and I'm dreading the birth so happy to stay pregnant for now. I may change my tune when lo is engaged though as I remember that "walking around a coconut" sensation all too well.

Been nesting like crazy here, painting, washing everything in sight, replacing curtains, cleaning and scrubbing and tidying til stupid o'clock. I still seem to have loads to do, but having a toddler contributes a lot to that.

Quick message to Molly re high bmi in labour: don't let them bully you into having a more medicalised birth than necessary. If all is going well, you should be able to remain active and not stuck on a bed strapped to machines. You may have to speak up though, mw's can be very pushy and just sweep you along with these things!

sweetkitty · 16/04/2010 15:11

just checking in again

Been lying down all afternoon, have done something to my right had side of the bump, feels like a stitch but think it's muscular, it's a sharp shooting pain whenever I move, only way it is not painful is when I am lying on my left hand side. Haven't a clue what it is.

Very miserable thinking what else??

OP posts:
Hollyoaks · 16/04/2010 15:16

Just checking in too Nice to see we'll definitely have our third baby by tea time.

SK - sounds painful, sorry no advice just take it easy.

James - yeah, I think your the only one not fed up at this point. I'm happy in the mornings but once it gets to 4pm I start to really ache. Dreading going back to work on Tuesday, hope it doesn't make me worse.

Pigley - I'll kindly refuse the offer of your dd but if anyone would like to take a felt-tip pen covered 2yo than feel free. Good sleeper, doesn't eat much, will deliver.

Hobnobfanatic · 16/04/2010 16:11

SK - hope you feel better soon. I could cry today - I can barely stand up, let alone walk. Hip and pubic pain is awful. I'm going to have to get a stick or crutches, I think. Hope it goes soon -not sure I can put up with this for another three weeks...

So excited that the babies are arriving. Can't wait to hear all the birth stories - please don't leave out any details!

James - i wish I had the energy to nest. I'm just too tired to get anything done!

newmomma · 16/04/2010 16:24

Ooh exciting stuff ML
Can't wait for your next update!!

sweetkitty - I started the 'I've had enough' thread...

pigleychez glad your DD is feeling better - my son has something called 'hand, foot and mouth'. Making him and us all miserable!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 16/04/2010 16:34

Pigley - hope you've survived the afternoon! DD is always a bit of a nightmare when she's recovering

SK - no advice, sounds miserable though

Newmomma - I've had enough as well I think, can't wait for this to be over so I can feel vaguely comfortable again.

ML - can't wait for your next update, hope everything's OK

James - glad you're enjoying it all! I've been in major nesting mood as well, but it's really not doing me any favours. One of DH's colleagues has a wife due on the same day as me and DH has been bragging to him about me nesting

Have been on the moor with my sister and her kids all afternoon, it was lovely. DD ran about like a mad thing and paddled in the river (which was absolutely freezing apparently but I could barely feel it - pregnancy thing?).

sweetkitty · 16/04/2010 16:42

Sorry to hear I am not the only one suffering. The last month is always hell. I have been so spoiled this week with DP being here I don't know how I am going to cope when he is back at work next week, I will have to drive again and I cannot even get in the bus car.

Raspberry leaf tablets - I don't find they do anything for me re BHs.

Hobnob - poor you, cocodamols do work well I know loads of women don't like taking them in pregnancy and I feel awful taking them but they do mean I can move about.

pigley - I have my own stroppy 20 month old madam thanks. She has taken to thinking she is 4 and gets cross if she cannot do the same as her sisters. She was having a strop today as she couldn't ride a bike!

Wonder if ML is a Mum again

OP posts:
MarquiseDeMerteuil · 16/04/2010 17:08

Heffa - sounds like you've had a lovely day - very about being outdoors, I'm sitting at my desk while the sun's shining outside.

James - I'll join you on the happily pregnant bench, but i have been extremely lucky with my pregnancy - no symptoms at all other than a bump! Apart from that, I haven't felt any different to normal. Although that doesn't mean I can't wait to stop being pregnant and finally meet my baby!

ML - I guess you're finding out about now whether you will have a c-section. Good luck whichever way it goes.

Hobnob - sorry you're feeling so rough. I hope you don't have to wait the full 3 remaining weeks, fingers crossed for an early arrival for your little girl.

Pigley - why are workmen always so unreliable? How annoying that they haven't started when you've been waiting in. I really hope they do a good job of it when they finally start, and put your drive back as it should be.

Schipo thanks for the support. I agree that the way they measure is completely random. I think it has dropped quite a bit since the last time it was measured, which the MW said may well account for it only seeming to have grown by 1cm since last time. It is definitely on the small side though. When I go to my yoga class I always get looks at the beginning when we go round and say how many weeks pg we are - I look about the same as the people who are about 25 weeks! I am definitely excited about having another opportunity to see the LO though! Hope they don't accidentally tell me what sex it is!

Kaffa - I am so with you on not being able to wait to finish work. I've got another week left too, but I feel like I spend all day just thinking about all the stuff I wish i could be doing at home like washing baby stuff, setting it all out in the nursery, finishing painting bookshelves, making cushion covers for the nurery, putting pictures up, shopping for a changing bag, packing my hospital bag etc. Will try to do some of it this weekend.

carikube and heffa and others who have experience of tears and/or epis. Obviously the aim is not to have either , but is it generally considered preferable to tear naturally or opt for an episiotomy?

Really shouldn't spend this long posting when I'm at work!

Hope everyone has a good weekend. A quiet pottering round the house one for me this weekend. Then next weekend will be a fun one to celebrate the start of my maternity leave - spending Saturday at the races with friends, then round to some other friends on Sunday for lunch.

myfirstbump · 16/04/2010 17:31

HUGE congratumalations to Forces and Lucky! Hopefully ML isn't far away either. 3 babies soon! I want one!

Lucky, I will completely let you off. I'd much rather a safe and happy arrival any day! Matilda was on our short list for a while, lots of NN potential!

Yorky - I know where you are
We love that show, haven't thought about if we'll make it this year with a small baby - is it practical?

Am very excited today, I have an arrival of my own! Not Baby, but close - the pushchair has arrived! Just this minute. DH had to chase the van up the road becuase the driver only left one box. Ooooh, the drama. Can't wait to get home from work to see it.

Am in two minds about pregnancy now. Part of me is over it and wants the next bit where I'm not achy and bump anymore and have a snuggly baby to cuddle. But then I also know I'll be more tired, not to mention sicked and pooed on, cried at and probably cried with.

I can't wait to finish work now either. They've been interviewing people for my maternity cover this week which is weird to watch but necessary, I know.

I'm just really excited about the next bit now, can you tell??

cupcakefairy · 16/04/2010 17:56

Hi girls, we're finally connected in the new place, though being woken at 8am by the Virgin men on my first day of ML wasn't the nicest thing!

Massive congrats to Lucky and Forces! Can't believe we have two babies already!!

James I'm with you on being very happy to stay pregnant for the next 4.5 weeks! Love my bump, love the compliments and I've had it fairly easy compared to others on here...but excited about my lo too

My parents bringing our moses basket and buggy tomorrow...yay!

Hope everyone is well, thanks for the reassurance re growth. I'm not worried about it at all, lo is wriggly as ever & I know the tape measure method is a crude measurement.

sweetkitty · 16/04/2010 19:36

Just saw this on FB from ML

Olivia grace born at 6.17 pm weighing 6lbs 11.5 ozs after a very fast one hour labour

SquirtsMum · 16/04/2010 19:44

Yay!!! Congrats ML

xxx

brightredballoon · 16/04/2010 20:11

pamelat yes maybe good idea to start a thread about csections to give you lots of helpful tips and expections. I was terrified of having a csection but then when I had no choice in the matter with my 2nd child I wished I had prepped myself mentally a bit better beforehand. However, bizarrely enough I am now choosing one.
You might not end up needing one, these little monkeys have a habit of keeping us on our toes. Just dont get deflated about it if you do need one, it can be a wonderful experience and a planned one has far better safetly records and recovery times.

ML thinking of you, wondering if you're in the throws of full on pushing stage or if you are already cuddling wee Olivia.

What beautiful weather it is, I know it wont last but am glad we are enjoying it while we can. It would be so fab if it was like this all summer, the kids would not even notice the new baby I am sure as they would be outdoors all the time and I find it so much easier to have a daytime nap if its nice weather! Saying that, I also find it easier to deal with sleep deprivation in the nice weather.

James I am also quite happy being pregnant and have a huge long list of things I would like to get done before the baby arrives but on the other hand I don't fancy getting any larger (have enough stretch marks now!!) and find it quite hard trying to run after my 2 yr old in the park etc and my 4yr old is trying my limits at the moment as well!

MDM I thought tearing was better for healing but no experience as only had an episiotomy with first child as she was forceps.

Off for dinner now, I thought my apetite was going to tail off being so full of baby but I seem to have no problem at all!
